Alright. This is my theory, Jake is already dead. That’s why I’m the beginning when she gets the voice mail the women is crying and telling her she’s sorry and they don’t have to talk about it. And if you pay close attention there’s scenes where it makes sense Jake is not actually there. She wakes and her face is scared yet confident when he isn’t there next to her and after a moment of sitting there, he finally appears peeing on the side. And with the gun scene it’s like she’s in control of it the entire time even when he’s behind her teaching her how to shoot it. And then she takes off running and yet he never catches her? She gets into the lake and a man appears asking her questions, but I don’t think he’s actually there. He disappears once she no longer looks at him and the gun also disappears and that’s because she never had it. Maybe prior to this day Jake had killed himself or was in a gun accident ? Either way once she runs towards the vehicle she yells out for him. She then gets back in the vehicle and it shows he’s calling her and instead of answering she stares at it. I thought she killed Jake and she was actually talking to herself when she was talking to the man on the lake and at the end it was gonna be her mom calling and she would pick up crying and say 'Mom I did it again!'
BIG SPOILER. Well my interpretation for the ending was actually that the unknown man was her guardian angel, the Voice of her consciousness, her inner voice maybe or whatever... He was standing next to the weapon so he could have harmed her from a distance if he wanted but he didn't. He warned her about the car, the danger of swimming all alone, he asked her about the school he even warned her that she was in the wrong place and almost cammanded her not to do anything stupid. He asked her to say loud out her name (once again he challenged her to decide if it was her own decision to follow jake if she was the one leading her life). Finally he asked her to come closer and then he challenged her to touch the bottom and then she started shivering so he sort of awakened her about where she was heading. She followed Jake (the bad guy), she left home, they stole a car, he taught her how to use a weapon but she obviously had second thoughts about Florida. The man warned her that Jake was already dead (meaning he was determined to follow that kind of life - cannot be saved) and couldn't hear her or save her (not from him but generally if things went wrong- he wouldn't understand her if she tried to persuade him to change). So when she stormed into the car and saw his name on the incoming call she was afraid of answering as she has taken the road back. Meanwhile the hand from behind metaphorically meant that it was ready to take action preventing her from destroying her life. That is my opinion about the short movie. It is an advice for young and restless people to always listen to their inner voice and avoid the bad influences. And sometimes its difficult to tell apart the good guy from the bad one...
She has that "it" factor they talk about in Hollywood. There's something unique about her, and the way she acts. She could definitely be the next big star.
THAT GAVE ME GOOSEBUMPS OH MY GOD ????? the call from the supposed-to-be-dead boyfriend, the loud distorted music, her crying, the fucking hand from the backseat, WOAH im SHAKING
That's exactly it. I keep reading comments saying "the scariest thing was..."...and while most are funny, all I can think is that some of those people making said comments have probably never been in a vulnerable position with someone who's taking advantage of that vulnerability. As someone who has, it played on some real fears. The supernatural ones are of course scary, but these are the things that cause nightmares...the things that can and do happen.
That guy man so freaking creepy and cringy, I was dying inside the dread of being naked alone with some creeper, the way he talked was so scary. The acting was amazing. Why I'm I watching this at night alone in the dark scaring myself for no apparent reason, I never learn my lesson. Thanks Alter.
@@timwells3171 the sudden music sound matching the scary or non-scary thing that's the fake scare cliché adds to the laziness. I wonder if some channel with video nerds has "edited" some jump scare scenes removing the sudden noise. I guess some would still work, but probably just the best ones. It's kind of the horror/thriller near equivalent of laugh tracks. An actual equivalent would be screaming tracks, but that's unheard of.
The voice message at the beginning can be from after what had happened to them in the woods. So many teens go missing every year, and for most of them we have no clue what’s been going on.
I think she got in a fight with her mother, ran away and they both got killed. The phone call was of a worried mother after they had disappeared for some considerable time and she was crying worried sick not knowing they were both dead
Spoiler alert...... I was really scared when that guy started asking weird questions. Kind of similar situation I had to face on a school trip. Terrifying.
@@cindylou3524 Went on a school trip in an amusement park when I was in middle school. Seeing me alone (I was waiting for my friends) one of the ride operator started asking me where I was from and age etc etc all personal questions. But then my friends came back. The entire time we we were in that park he kept an eye on our group. That was really terrifying for me.
Those were some great camera angles. Especially when the boyfriend was behind her pointing the gun at us and the wide side shot of the whole lake flicking back and forth to close ups of the girl. At first I thought the acting was really bad but then when it came to the water scene where we had a close up of the girl and her facial expressions, I truly felt her terror.
When she started swimming back to shore, I thought her feet were his hands behind her, and he'd emerge from under the water fully dressed. I was quite disappointed when that turned out not to be.
Relax, I'm a professional... This is what a short is supposed to look like. Great acting, great audio, and the cameramans angles were superb, 4 out 5 stars!!
The sound was good, too. They could've used some ADR, but possibly had no budget for it. Same with not putting dummy rounds in the pistol. Small things which get slack from me for a short like this. I give it 4 also.
You can tell that water was freezing. She did a great job converting the cold shivers to fear shivers. Hopefully they were able to do this in one take!
For those who doesn't know the plot of the movie, I'll explain it to you. Amber and Jake went for a trip to Florida, but before that, it gives us a hint of what Amber's life before when her mother leaves a voicemail. It seems like Amber is not the kind of girl we've seen in this movie. When they took a stop at the forest, amber found a gun on his boyfriend's car. They go to the forest and let Amber spare a chance to practice shooting while saying "I think I'm gonna get the hang of it." The thing is, Amber is the one who killed her boyfriend. She is diagnosed with some kind of mental illness that imagination is not a restriction of her reality. There is no creepy guy on the lake, it's just her imagination. And that hand on the end, is the hand of her boyfriend who is in reach for justice. Disclaimer: That is just my understanding. Sorry for the bad english.
A fairly creepy, well conceived short. It was effective in doing what it set out to do. Competently shot with excellent performances. I'm actually so glad it ended the way it did! 👏🏽👏🏽
I've seen a lot of these shorts and the quality of this one is probably the best I have seen. The angles, the editing, the sound, the acting were all top notch. The story wasnt lazy and didnt over explain itself, leaving just enough to the imagination. If this was a full length movie, I would probably pay to see it in the theater. Nice work. 'chefs kiss'
This is a good one, Alter. Thanks for sharing this! In the end scene, showing Jake calling her, helped piece it together for me because it shows that he is alive and the creepy dude lied to lure her to the car and it shows that it isn't Jake in the car since he is calling her. Simple, but very eerie. The sound effects were also perfect with creating such a creepy atmosphere.

I think this proves that you don’t need millions of dollars in production value to have a good horror film. This is only ten minutes and it’s better than what Hollywood has done with horror by a long shot. I doubt they will, but I would love to see a whole horror film surrounding this. Maybe A-24 will do something. Who knows
This!!!! This was the most nauseating, face numbing, stomach sinking fear I've felt in a while. Wonderfully written actors did an amazing job. I WOULD LOVE TO SEE THIS AS AN ENTIRE MOVIE. The concept is every girls worst nightmare
Nah I think this short ended perfectly. It doesn't need a Hollywood exec's approval for a 2 hour movie because drawing it out would mean unnecessary filler stuff to satisfy the runtime.
Possibly that's why they did it. It misdirected us into thinking the story tension might be between the two of them. Then falsely relieved the tension when she ran away... INTO danger.
@elenarowland82 I'm not sure if it's Jake in the backseat. I'm thinking it's the creepy lake dude though. He might be using Jake's phone after he killed him.
That good Samaritan not only saved her from an abduction beyond states lines, but took action to prevent her very unsafe use of a cell phone while driving.
This reminds me of an experience my mom and I had in the Virgin Islands. We drove around for hours looking for a deserted beach. We finally found one surrounded by dense forest. We were having a great time swimming, when suddenly a man appears out of nowhere. He just stood there staring and didn’t acknowledge us when we spoke to him. This went on for a few minutes. He stared the whole time and not a single word came from his mouth. We decided to get out, grab our things and ran back to our car as fast as possible. On the way back, we noticed a towel and sandals laying in the middle of nowhere with no one in sight. Thankfully, we made it back to the car, but I’ve never been so scared. We still talk about it to this day, but will never really know what was going on there. I’ll never forget that cold, lifeless stare and his complete silence. We do realize now that what we did was REALLY stupid.
I don't think it was stupid, you were just enjoying your personal freedom. The other one acted inappropriate, disrespectful and obviously was trying to scare you. He is to blame.
im here from a youtube short. one of the best short horror films i watched tho in my opinion it counts more as a thriller. the suspense building is amazing and builds up the curiosity really much. would recommend, better than some full-lenght films.
@Mary Novovesky Mary Novovesky they got cat called, boohoo, grow some thicker skin. I was walking down the street and some random guy ran up behind me and tried to attack me in broad daylight talking about some bullshit about sleeping with his fucking mom... Trifficked men stories of course you don't heat them because majority are 1. Little boys. 2. We have a society that cares more about females to the point stupid crap like fucking catcalling is somehow a issue while violence against men, is a hilarious trope used for laughs in the media.
I was impressed by this short film. It was all her imagination. None of it happen, the man or her friend were never there. She ran away from home, ended up in a secluded place and freaked out. The call at the end, was the truth. Good stuff. New sub.
Hello. Either the friend was not dead, couldn't find her, and was trying to contact her but she, as the creep wanted, was driving away from safety with the creep in the back, or he was dead and the creep was using her friend's phone and phoning her from the back seat.
@@stevena3244 I think the first one. The creep was too clean and neat to have killed Jake in my opinion. He wasn't shot or she would have heard it. Stabbing would have left blood and strangulation would have messed up his shirt. Unless Jake just tripped and fell and broke his neck I think he was lost.... we already know he didn't have a really good sense of direction.
@@tsmk4262 It's possible. There was just not enough evidence to suggest that or any other interpretation so I just went with an explanation where everything was really happening to her.
I have three theories 1. The guy was a ghost warning her about a killer who killed her friend but he came off in a creepy way instead of a helping way. She goes back to the car and drives away with the killer 2. The guy was a creep and he killed her friend , took the gun , & ran away when she turned around & swam away for a bit and in the end used the friends phone to call her to distract her as he was gonna kill her 3. She was drowning and she hallucinated some random creepy guy talking to her and hallucinated her getting away and the friend calling her in the end to find her and see where she was when in reality she drowned
I thought it was going in the direction of him basically keeping her in the water through psychological force alone. Swimming and swimming, getting more and more tired, terrified of getting out to face him. Frantic breaststroke giving way to backstroke to conserve strength. Swimming and swimming, from one end to the other as it gets darker and colder. I thought the whole "1-2 people drown here every year" thing was a perfect setup for that.
@@autogamer7281 Touché! I just asked one of my brothers and he said some troops may have 2, universally 3. As a Girl Scout we did 3. But thank you I learned something new.

The acting, & the intense buildup, & the quiet (question in the) climax, all were superb, extraordinary! I hope y'all are aware of the genuine genius of y'all's infallible creativity.
So my theory was she shot Jake her boyfriend while in a psychosis that’s why you only see her in the water. Perhaps the stranger that’s talking to her from the grass isn’t really there but instead in her head mentally. So she visualizes the stranger as if he’s the predator but actually he’s watching her because he knows what she’s done. Jake could have crawled into the back seat and reaches slowly up while she’s driving away.
What if the man hides the bodies underwater and that's why he told her to try and touch the bottom so she would feel the bodies. That's literally the first thing i tought of lol
I'm more scared of the part where she jumps into that murky lake without any second thoughts. You know there are lot of crocs/alligators in these kind of waters. Everything in this short film keeps you gripped. Excellent

Do you find yourself over thinking things much?

This is what a short is supposed to look like. Great acting, great audio, and the cameramans angles were superb, 4 out 5 stars!!

@@stevena3244 I think the first one. The creep was too clean and neat to have killed Jake in my opinion. He wasn't shot or she would have heard it.
