So the AI allows them to monitor all chats at all times, and the people behind it will ban for the smallest infractions and mistakes. I got tired with assholes online studiios and their attempt to moderate every single aspect of the game. There are report and ignore in game for a reason. We wern't asked about it and didn't want it. Ofc, other languages are not moderated as much, as a human has the final say. I doubt they are fluent in Dutch or Slovakian. Not sorry I went to a games studio that treats its adult players like adults.
I work at an industry company that has similar moderation. The reason why even human review from moderators has such poor results is generally because companies 1. outsource moderation due to costs to sweatshops in other countries, 2.the moderators usually don't even use the product they are moderating / don't have relevant experience / have short tenure, so they are unable to act outside of their canned responses / flowchart decisions the company gives them, 3. the company also usually has ludicrously short SLAs for moderation action / tickets (cost-saving: they want as few moderators to handle as many requests as possible)that force the moderators to cut corners, and 4. companies (if they care in the first place) don't understand the negative impact this has on customer experience because they measure moderator success by those SLAs which are reported as a glowing success upwards even though there are plenty of industry examples of how this is problematic (see Jeff Bezos' story about him calling customer service in a meeting with the CS lead to see how long it actually takes to get support)
The problem is the way that the community managers and certain devs see things is not the same as the customer support agents and people handling tickets sees things. This is why sometimes you can get a different answer from different people at zos on specific rules. Their rules are so open to interpretation it basically depends on who you get and how they're feeling that day. Its by far the worst support I've ever seen from any mmo I've played. And whats worse is that they just don't care.
Censorship is doing far more damage to the ESO community than the words of bad actors in the game ever did. There is an ignore feature, as well as a swear word filter already in place. I blame Microsoft, the company is seriously effed up. Who thought it would ever be a good idea to have private companies policing social policy?

Yes there is. I played it for 7 years on xb1 before switching to pc. It's literally the same method on PC for those of us transplants that still use controller. Highlight the persons chat in your social chat screen where they text at. Hit Y for options. Add to Ignore List. Once they're ignored you won't see any of their texts again on any of your characters as the ignore list is for your whole account.
I know for one that I am reluctant to talk in game now. I never was racist/insert hate shit here, but I did swear randomly in sentences (not at people like insults though) but the stuff I've seen people banned over makes me concerned. It has nothing to do with actual hate and just relies on getting caught by their really fucked up 'bad words' AI scanner that probably considers words like "grapes" skirting the swear filter. Sometimes people do that, but other times people just want to talk about their fucking frozen grapes they're eating.

I got 3 accounts forced to name chance and I had them from launch. Orcgasm my orc tank. Can't-Heal-Herpes my Templar healer and Tank-Me-Daddy, my Warden tank. All name banned second I joined a guild chat because it's all AI but outside in normal chat was fine for 10yrs.

ESO banned me because they thought my suggestion to sell players more item slots for housing was trolling :/ It's ridiculous. They also close down popular threads all the time, claiming that there are other threads similar to the topic. Yet those other threads are not on the same topic at all. The people ZOS hires to moderate the forums have zero reading comprehension. If you have a topic that stays relevant throughout the years, that is closed as well. ESO does everything to NOT hear player feedback or suggestions.

I almost never use game chat because of this, instead I use private chat on my system for group chat. Its better anyway, just in case someone gets kicked, you can still hear them

I've never been actioned in game for chat, but then again I play offline a lot and I rarely engage in chat besides guild chat on occasion. Much of the time I even minimize chat since I use a controller 90% of the time and switching to keyboard doesn't interest me unless really needed. The forums on the other hand, Icy seems to edit my messages if they don't like what I've said a lot. I haven't been official warned, but it seems overboard since I see others not get edited. I was joking about Bosmer in a post (if you've ever been in Luckyghost's streams years ago) there was some joking about them being little cannibals. I joked and even put j/k: who doesn't hate those little midget cannibals. Something to that effect and my post was edited for Trolling... I guess it is best to just not "chat" there and only give feedback. As for in game, I'll stick to discord, since voice chat meshes better with controller use anyway.
I have a feeling, that ZOS are intentionally driving people back from this game. I don't know, if it goes from above, or directly from ZOS itself, but all this flops... I noticed the general unrest about the highten censorship on the speech they hate. If no report is issued, how are the people getting suspended? And why they are issuing whole suspensions about verbal offenses, specially to paying customers? I got permanently banned 7 months ago for a character name I had for 4 years. In the ticket that I got back from them, they claimed that my name was attempting to circumvent harmful speech, and apparently, after researching for hours on why/how my name could have been harmful, in the scottish dialect of english, a portion of my name meant something inappropriate in scottish slang. This was on NA servers btw and after numerous attempts to contact a real person, I kept on getting the same AI responses denying my appeals and disregarding any context. They can and will continue to cut costs wherever they can, even when it drastically harms the community, the gameplay, and the image of their company. What a joke.
I had this exact thing happen to me and it opened my eyes to how pathetic this dev team is. Their customer support wouldn’t even answer me until after the ban. Needless to say I cancel my subscription and haven’t played since. Now I’m enjoying my life. I supported this game for years and spent thousands on it, defended the dev team relentlessly and did the best I could to create a welcoming and safe community for this game. It was extremely hurtful and disappointing on how I was treated. Now I really would love to see players leave the game so people can get away from the ZOS prison and experience other games that really and seriously appreciate their community. Good luck friends.
the ai definitely knows other languages, I got a warning for a char name that I had on na (I play strictly on eu, I logged on na for less than 30 seconds cause someone told me to so I could skip the 5 mins cooldown when I dced once mid prog) and the funny thing is that it was 5 fucking months after I made the char, I thought that they warned me by mistake for a few days and was so confused. The char name translated to "my dick" btw and it was in romanian, truly a negative impact on the na server

Recently started playing Guild Wars 2 and I'd forgotten what an MMO truly felt like. People creating groups in map chat to take on world bosses in every zone thanks to the level scaling. Running up on random events with other players. A whole community engaging with each other and working towards common goals. ESO feels beyond dead in comparison. Even the starter zones the chat is dead. Sure, you can see a busy trading city or crafting hub. But nobody interacts. Everyone is just playing "Skyrim online" and doing their own thing. World bosses are a joke. Delves are a joke. Normal dungeons for the most part can be done solo. Trials gets 12 people together that just steam through the content and insta disband group at the end. They've worked so hard on the solo experience that they forgot they created an MMO. It's like standing in a room of 10k people and still fealing "alone" The last couple of years have been abysmal for ESO. Almost any other option is better if you can leave the sunk cost fallacy crap behind.
This a huge problem. Why have AI at all this typical with Zos. If the consumer has a problem or a question they are going to be in contact with AI rather then a legit person. Zos bad business move and again showing they don’t care about the community. You say pvp brawl which was not you deleted because you didn’t get the reaction you wanted when the community was helping. We only have their word for the fact that it was actually an attempt to say flag. It’s a very common way to try and get away with saying that specific slur. We’ve seen plenty of people go online to claim they did nothing wrong and then have a GM come in and expose their lies.

The main reason I tend to believe this was likely a typo and not something more nefarious is due to how close together the 2 keys are on a standard (english) keyboard. L and ; are literally right next to each other, and as someone who often has to retype words as I'm typing things out due to mis-pressing keys as I type fairly quickly this happens often. I can easily see someone trying to type flag to call out that people need to defend or take the flags and instead accidentally pressing ; instead of L. Especially in the midst of a keeo battle where every second counts and there's no time to tripkle check spelling before posting an urgent call to defend/push a location. P.s. and yes I have deliberately left in the 2 specific mistakes of "keeo" and "tripkle", where I would usually go back and edit those out in a post like this where I have time to think about what is being typed, just to show just how easy it is to accidentally press an adjacent key while typing something out.
I neither use profanity nor sarcasm in chat. I don't swear IRL either. My characters' names are all fantasy lore accurate. For example, my Imperial alts have latin names which I ensure have no negative connotations before I committed. It's actually very simple not to be penalised by the moderation tool. The crux : be an all round normal and good person. I don't play the game to pander to some weird personal obnoxious streak.
Normal and good is partially subjective. There are the objective lines like racism and the like but there are other things that vary from one person to another. I'd say the word cunt shouldn't be a bannable word nor a slur and I'll use it without restriction but some say it's misogynistic which is fine they are free to believe that but does that mean i am a bad person?

All name banned second I joined a guild chat because it's all AI but outside in normal chat was fine for 10yrs.
I didn't say anything but thanks for the guild invite and run a dungeon with the crew. Everyone loved my name so definitely was AI driven

@@HookahOtaku i quit after they released blackwood i think? the one with the card game. that's when i realised they will never push for innovation and just stay on the safe side of development. it was always just a couple of dungeons and one trial per year in the summer with 1 small gimmick. for new players it was nice but it became very dull by the time you've done the trial mounts..

I'd also add the fact some houses were done by someone lazy.. for Example Domus Phrasticus has windows on diffferent places inside and outside.. eso propably is kept alive just for the Elder Scrolls title

No, they don't have a ToS that days that. You can say slurms in eso without being banned. Using slurms in no way deprives you of "human decency" so it sounds like you need to grow up. ToS is for tyrannical tech companies to ban you for whatever they see fit. It benefits no one but them and isn't meant to save you from bad words.

I've never been actioned in game for chat, but then again I play offline a lot and I rarely engage in chat besides guild chat on occasion. Much of the time I even minimize chat since I use a controller 90% of the time and switching to keyboard doesn't interest me unless really needed. The forums on the other hand, Icy seems to edit my messages if they don't like what I've said a lot. I haven't been official warned, but it seems overboard since I see others not get edited. I was joking about Bosmer in a post (if you've ever been in Luckyghost's streams years ago) there was some joking about them being little cannibals. I joked and even put j/k: who doesn't hate those little midget cannibals. Something to that effect and my post was edited for Trolling... I guess it is best to just not "chat" there and only give feedback. As for in game, I'll stick to discord, since voice chat meshes better with controller use anyway.
I have a feeling, that ZOS are intentionally driving people back from this game. I don't know, if it goes from above, or directly from ZOS itself, but all this flops... These are now looking like pieces of a puzzle.
And I don't know, why. May be, they want people to go to other projects of Microsoft or Zenimax.

I noticed the general unrest about the highten censorship on the speech they hate.
If no report is issued, how are the people getting suspended? And why they are issuing whole suspensions about verbal offenses, specially to paying customers?

I got permanently banned 7 months ago for a character name I had for 4 years. In the ticket that I got back from them, they claimed that my name was attempting to circumvent harmful speech, and apparently, after researching for hours on why/how my name could have been harmful, in the scottish dialect of english, a portion of my name meant something inappropriate in scottish slang. This was on NA servers btw and after numerous attempts to contact a real person, I kept on getting the same AI responses denying my appeals and disregarding any context. They can and will continue to cut costs wherever they can, even when it drastically harms the community, the gameplay, and the image of their company. What a joke.
This company has been scummy for 20 plus years, this news is far from surprising every time
I had this exact thing happen to me and it opened my eyes to how pathetic this dev team is. Their customer support wouldn’t even answer me until after the ban. Needless to say I cancel my subscription and haven’t played since. Now I’m enjoying my life. I supported this game for years and spent thousands on it, defended the dev team relentlessly and did the best I could to create a welcoming and safe community for this game. It was extremely hurtful and disappointing on how I was treated. Now I really would love to see players leave the game so people can get away from the ZOS prison and experience other games that really and seriously appreciate their community. Good luck friends.
the ai definitely knows other languages, I got a warning for a char name that I had on na (I play strictly on eu, I logged on na for less than 30 seconds cause someone told me to so I could skip the 5 mins cooldown when I dced once mid prog) and the funny thing is that it was 5 fucking months after I made the char, I thought that they warned me by mistake for a few days and was so confused. The char name translated to "my dick" btw and it was in romanian, truly a negative impact on the na server

Recently started playing Guild Wars 2 and I'd forgotten what an MMO truly felt like.
People creating groups in map chat to take on world bosses in every zone thanks to the level scaling. Running up on random events with other players. A whole community engaging with each other and working towards common goals.
ESO feels beyond dead in comparison. Even the starter zones the chat is dead.
Sure, you can see a busy trading city or crafting hub. But nobody interacts. Everyone is just playing "Skyrim online" and doing their own thing.
World bosses are a joke. Delves are a joke. Normal dungeons for the most part can be done solo. Trials gets 12 people together that just steam through the content and insta disband group at the end.
They've worked so hard on the solo experience that they forgot they created an MMO. It's like standing in a room of 10k people and still fealing "alone"
The last couple of years have been abysmal for ESO. Almost any other option is better if you can leave the sunk cost fallacy crap behind.

This a huge problem. Why have AI at all this typical with Zos. If the consumer has a problem or a question they are going to be in contact with AI rather then a legit person. Zos bad business move and again showing they don’t care about the community. You say pvp brawl which was not you deleted because you didn’t get the reaction you wanted when the community was helping. They spun it around. At the same time get DdOS because they never take active measures to protect themselves. They then cancel the 10 year for NA. It’s not financial, because trump won, or because of the CEO who was heinously murdered but more because they are not getting the reaction they wanted for the gold road and or the community to side with delusional narratives

my only experience was pretty good with support, although it was years ago i was surprised that they helped me within 24 hours on the weekend (got falsely permabanned for RWT and then unbanned)
We only have their word for the fact that it was actually an attempt to say flag. It’s a very common way to try and get away with saying that specific slur. We’ve seen plenty of people go online to claim they did nothing wrong and then have a GM come in and expose their lies.

The main reason I tend to believe this was likely a typo and not something more nefarious is due to how close together the 2 keys are on a standard (english) keyboard.
L and ; are literally right next to each other, and as someone who often has to retype words as I'm typing things out due to mis-pressing keys as I type fairly quickly this happens often. I can easily see someone trying to type flag to call out that people need to defend or take the flags and instead accidentally pressing ; instead of L. Especially in the midst of a keeo battle where every second counts and there's no time to tripkle check spelling before posting an urgent call to defend/push a location.
P.s. and yes I have deliberately left in the 2 specific mistakes of "keeo" and "tripkle", where I would usually go back and edit those out in a post like this where I have time to think about what is being typed, just to show just how easy it is to accidentally press an adjacent key while typing something out.

I neither use profanity nor sarcasm in chat. I don't swear IRL either. My characters' names are all fantasy lore accurate. For example, my Imperial alts have latin names which I ensure have no negative connotations before I committed.
It's actually very simple not to be penalised by the moderation tool. The crux : be an all round normal and good person. I don't play the game to pander to some weird personal obnoxious streak.

Normal and good is partially subjective. There are the objective lines like racism and the like but there are other things that vary from one person to another. I'd say the word cunt shouldn't be a bannable word nor a slur and I'll use it without restriction but some say it's misogynistic which is fine they are free to believe that but does that mean i am a bad person?
