- If you thought Taysom Hill was just an average football player, think again…
He isn’t only a team captain for the New Orleans Saints, but has also been regarded as the most versatile players in the NFL.
From QB, to Tight End to making plays on special teams, Taysom Hill does it all. They don’t call him the Swiss Army Knife for nothing.
So just how good is Taysom Hill Actually?
This would lead Hill to a four-year, $40 million extension in 2021, though he lost the starting quarterback job to Jameis Winston. He later signed another contract with guaranteed money and provisions that could increase its value to $95 million. Unfortunately, Hill suffered a Lisfranc injury during the 2021 season, requiring surgery.
In 2022, with Dennis Allen as head coach, Hill transitioned to playing tight end but continued to take snaps at quarterback in wildcat formations. Hill remained a versatile weapon, playing all over the field while occasionally stepping in as a quarterback when needed. However, the team leaned more toward using him in non-QB roles, particularly with the addition of Derek Carr in 2023.
In 2023, Hill returned to quarterback but was also used as a tight end, fullback, and on special teams. He finished the season with 401 rushing yards, 291 receiving yards, and six total touchdowns.
He seems to have taken an even bigger leadership role on the saints team, recently being promoted to team captain, he quoted
“I would say that the greatest form of, you know, respect and accountability comes from your peers. So to have the opportunity to be a captain representing this team really means a lot to me.”
Throughout his career, Hill has balanced his faith, family, and football, remaining grounded despite the challenges he’s faced. His adaptability and ability to excel in multiple positions have made him a fan favorite and one of the most versatile players in the NFL.
“Difficult times can help you become better and move forward, or they can cause you to step backward. It’s how you handle those situations that shows who you can become.” - Спорт
My barber, who was on Taysom’s HS team in Idaho, told me a story that they were playing a team with a 4 star receiver who was torching them the entire 1st half. At half time the coach told Taysom he had to move to CB and play man coverage on that receiver, even though Taysom had never played CB before. He completely shut the guy down in the 2nd half and they won the game.
No surprise here!
I honestly wouldn't doubt it. He is so versatile and is so willing to be a team player. Hope his success continues
This is like Chuck Norris lore.
Taysom is approaching Chuck Norris status. Taysom once finished a half marathon running backwards just to see what 2nd place looked like.
Not only that a good man, husband, and father. 🔥👏
No doubt
As a BYU fan, it's hard to overstate how devastating each of his injuries were. I remember crying behind the couch after he got injured in 2014 (I was 13). It's been awesome to see him carve out a great career in the NFL after everything he has been through!
The 2014 injury gutted me. We could have gone undefeated that year.
I know, I can't imagine how hard those injuries were on his career. I think it made him a better player. All glory to God!
All of Cougar Nation is so proud of Hill and what he has accomplished. He continues to represent BYU and his faith in all of the right ways! We Love you Taysom! ❤
I couldn't agree more! I love his story and thanks for sharing
How can you not like this guy?
Hands down my favorite athlete, and a good guy to boot! I was his broadcasting teacher his freshman year and he stood out!
He and Jamaal Williams combined for 440 rushing yards and 4 TDs against number 15 Texas in Provo in 2013. Texas fired their DC right after the game.
Hill is an absolute stud
He should play every down
One of the best football players I’ve ever seen
Imagine if all the other NFL players played with the same passion he does. He is a living "blueprint" of a Football Player!
FREAKING STUD FOOTBALL PLAYER
You should have mentioned that he is part of the Exclusive 10, 10, 10 club. meaning he has thrown for, caught for, and run for 10 TD's. Only 5 people have ever done that in the NFL, and the last one to do it was 60+ years ago
He has made us very proud!!! He and Drew were spotted sometimes in Pocatello just eating dinner, being chill and awesome. He is a wonderful human being.
Always Utah state
How different from so many professional football players who are in the news for being arrested!
His college head coach called him our thor-terback.
The Packers put him on the waiver wire and were going to sign him to the practice squad, but the Saints picked him up off waivers before they could do that and Green Bay really regretted that.
No greenbay didn't we didn't bring him in to be a QB at all we didn't bring him in to play multiple positions
@ShawnSmith-x4l nice game yesterday. And their intent was to not carry more than 2 qb's on the 53 man roster, but they wanted to sign him off waivers to the pra time squad.
I played with Dexter in high school, and his older brother. I wasn’t aware he passed until now. That sucks.
Losing loved ones is always tough. Thanks for being open and sharing
Snake RIver alum here!!
As a BYU fan, it's extremely frustrating how Utah State injured our QBs year after year. I know our main rivalry is with Utah but I can't help but have nearly the same animosity toward Utah State for that reason
6:40 is teddy Bridgewater I believe 😂 love the video tho! Tons of cool info
lol, sometimes things slip hahaha.
Simply a player EVERY SINGLE team would love to have, hands down!!! But the person definitely comes before the player!
Guys I think taysom hill can play db
Probably could
I think he could play striker, quidditch seeker or be a sumo wrestler if he wants.
White Slash
My two favorite players in the NFL are Taysom Hill and
Kooper Cupp🏈
Sorry, that mountain town was not Pocatello. I know the area well.
Good enough to play in the nfl for what 10 years now? He should play most downs
Sooooo, when it says “in the heart of pocatello idaho it shows a completely random town… not poky! Haha that was funny
That made me laugh too. Should be a shot of the valley and Scout Mountain.
Unbelievably good. Hall of Fame good. Better than you are thinking of good. Number 1 and meaning it good. Better than the office linebacker good. Better than best good. Best and funest to watch good. White guy who can play any position and I mean any position good. White guy who does play any and all positions in real life good.
Hey Guy that was teddy Bridgewater not jamie Winston
Just got crapped on cuz he played for byu and was restricted. I’m don’t watch NFL these days.
Will never know cos he’ll never get his full opportunity
Umm, that's not Pocatello
For being so great he has done crap fr9m my fantasy league in several years
He doesn't get enough touches
Boring! I love Taysom, but you failed to answer the question you presented. You copied and pasted the same talking points every other UA-camr does when they are looking for views. Tell his life story, and you may or may not get to the question you asked at the very end of the video. I’ll make sure to avoid your videos in the future.
Despite being part of a cult, he’s an amazing leader and a huge asset to the saints!
Please don’t refer to the Church as a cult because it’s not. It’s ok if you disagree with someone’s beliefs, but there’s no reason to be insulting
Yep
Unnecessary swipe.
