Scripture in the Christian Life: A Source of Inspiration and Conversation

Presenter: Prof. Jaime Clark- Soles, Professor of New Testament and Altshuler Distinguished Teaching Professor at Perkins School of Theology, Southern Methodist University.
Prof. Clark-Soles responds to the conference title "Scripture in the Christian Life: A Source of Inspiration and Conversation" pointing to the necessity for scriptural interpretation that is rooted in the bodily lived experiences of diverse everyday Christians. She identifies scripture as a valuable source of shared language, ethical wisdom, history, literature, liturgy, and a contact with something extraordinary that provides an opportunity to experience something ecstatic or revelatory.
In particular she engages the audience with a reflection on Paul's peristasis passages as an opportunity to engage the word of the Bible with one's raw human experience.
