how fascinating that Jordan has organically connected the necessity of believing in God to obeying Him perfectly. Yes, there is an objective truth. No, we do not uphold that perfectly. We all fall short. He fully understands what the reality of there being a God means-that there is a standard. But to not hit that standard doesn’t mean you don’t believe.
Believing is obeying though. God is is creator and redeemer, and as both of those roles he has moral authority over us. To say “we won’t be perfect” so we aren’t hitting the standard of obedience isn’t logical, because God knows the ones trying to walk in obedience and the once making excuses for not even trying.
@@iBMcFly Agreed, but Jordan here (I would argue) is conflating belief with obedience. You believe in God? Then you must be perfect! Because naturally you would act within God’s will. That’s my one hang-up with Jordan’s aversion to the original question, “Do you believe in God?” because it still feels like he’s avoiding the question. Yes, you believe, but no you’re not perfect. He doesn’t seem to think that both can be true.
I think that the main reason Jordan Peterson is saying this is because he know or he sees that there are a lot if people who say they believe but they don’t act it out. Sometimes you can’t even tell people apart from who believes and who doesn’t. Believing in God and his word is such a powerful responsibility or burden to handle, to act out what you’re called to do.
This is such a huge debate in christian circles but while you are expected to do your best, the bible goes on and on about how God's standard is *perfect* obedience, and that *no one* can do that. That is the very reason we need Christ and his sacrifice for us. Far too many people are self righteous and think they can earn it. That's the problem.
Why is God such a liability, you make him sound like an anchor to be dragged around. God is fun loving and easy going. If you think God requires a sacrifice, hard work etc then one of us has the wrong God, and it's not me 😂
@michaelbarry755 when we first come to Jesus you make sacrifice of the old man. It's true that it is a joy to follow the lord but don't kid yourself there aren't things we give up for the Lord.
@@michaelbarry755the burden doesn’t come from God (OP worded that bad), it comes from denying both ourselves and the temptations of darkness. The burden comes from the plague that is the old man, rearing it’s ugly head (as Paul alluded to). The burden comes from wanting to be with our lord and savior but still being in a body of flesh, walking the narrow road with and to he, the one truth and life. Taking up one’s *cross* is NOT easy, but we are told to do so in JOY, for our savior has overcome this world!!!!!
This is a sermon by all means. It’s truly self-reflective, humble, and implies an immense and true respect for God. This is what I wish to hear from pastors and priests in church.
One of the beautiful things about God "and there are many" is that you can pass on his love knowingly and unknowingly many times without a word spoken.
This man never ceases to amaze me. One can take what one wants from these wise words. For me it places thought front and center and a question, how do we individually, privately ponder the question, what does God mean to you ? As we watch this dark cloud lifting above the horizon and our souls stir, now is a good time to answer it and be prepared within yourself for what is rapidly ascending upon all of humanity.
“What does god mean to you?” Nobody can seriously be impressed by this question or the concept behind it. It’s completely useless and gets us nowhere because anybody can just come up with some non normative bat shit crazy idea of god and say that’s what god means to them. It’s completely meaningless
He has the weight of his sin on his shoulders. None of us have the right to make that proclamation, because all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God. If I could say one thing to Dr Peterson it would be this: Take heart, and continue to pursue Him as He pursues you. He will never force you into His presence because he loves you that much. And I actively pray for you, Dr Peterson (though I have the sneaking suspicion that I am far from the only one) My Hope is that you begin to see the sacrifice of Christ as an unwarranted, utterly undeserved gift that we NEVER achieve worthiness of by way of our own actions, regardless of how ethical or moral we believe them to be. Finally, I would tell you that you now find yourself in the very spot where C.S. Lewis once stood, trying to square the circle of what you have known philosophically, and the idea that a God could love you enough to forgive you, not only for what you have done.. but all that you might do. And all He asks is that you believe in His sacrifice by accepting His gift and then try as best you can (knowing you WILL fail often) to be that person you see as being worthy of even claiming belief in the first place.
I love you, Jordan! You’re my mentor in many ways. The first and most important step in belief is TRUST - to trust in Jesus to save you. Everything beyond that is the journey of faith, ie, reading/understanding scripture, historical evidence, discipleship, etc. These are not requirements of salvation, they are natural out growth of God through the Holy Spirit working inside us - each in His own timing and pace. To recap: Trust in Jesus to save you. Let Him change you from the inside out. John 3:16-18
@@belialpig3567 - there’s more historical evidence for the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus Christ than any other event in antiquity. I challenge you to prove it didn’t happen. You can start by studying former skeptics Simon Greenleaf, C.S. Lewis, Josh McDowell, and Lee Strobel who all came to a saving faith in Jesus after failing to prove Him a “fictional character”.
Jordan is a beautiful soul, but also a brilliant example of how much the human soul fears love. In every interview I’ve seen of him, where god and the divine appears in him, he bursts into tears, and resist the grace that really wants to work, and be with him, as he teaches with grace without knowing it. He resists it, but is a great communictor of it.
Yes! This is my observation too, you put it perfectly. Breaks my heart. I so badly wish to see him ‘take up his cross’ and accept the grace God is clearly reaching out to him with
I think that his crying is the flesh of grace operating. We can feel it, recognizing, his “letting Christ into his heart” means so much more than it does for any of us, that him just considering it is more beautiful than almost anything any of us do all day because you see that he feels it all and knows it all - in a biblical way of knowing - in a way the majority of us can barely get close to. I just think his witness of considering the question is more Christ made flesh to all of us than anything any beleiever around us does or let alone says. So I don’t think at all that he is lost or that we need to, nor could we, save him. Christ clearly captivates his heart more than he likely captivates any of ours. Maybe we just let Christ captivate us the way he has captivated Peterson, and instead of praying for their relationship pray that we see Christ as he’s making himself so human and so knowable through JP. There is no doubt Christ has already won this man’s soul, I don’t think this is a doubt for those of us who love them both. Perhaps it’s like some of the saints experienced… they described the joy of the Lord being so overpowering that they would have died from the ecstasy of it if Christ himself hasn’t been sustaining them to keep them on earth. I think this man is so close to that joy, perhaps he couldn’t contain it. He as much as says so. The Holy Spirit is gentle… God is good.
Jordan and Neichze had a real point. No one is able to obtain that level of virtue other than Christ. But that is the main point of Christianity, that Christ takes our place and we take His. He dies to take our unrighteousness and in response we get His righteousness to cover us. Then once we have been imputed with that Godly righteousness, we get to conform ourselves more and more into the image of it
As I listen to this man and I have heard him speak in other videos he sounds very compelling. Telling the truth of what he says and explains. He is crafting the words to bring his message to those who want to hear what he says. Now for me I want to say this. I have what I call not just a knowledge of the God but something more important. I have what I call a relationship with him. He treats me as his child someone who listens to him and tries to do what he commands. I am not perfect I am flawed but I know he loves me and I love him. He is more than God to me but he is my Lord and Savior who came to the world to save those who need him.

I always love listening to JP...he's so great at challenging my thinking (in good ways), and he so danged articulate that I increase my vocabulary every time I hear him. He often puts words to things that I personally fail to articulate well. I must say, however, regarding the misquote at 9:15 and forward... Jesus did not refuse to be called "good." He was addressed by the man as "good teacher," and Jesus responded with, "why do you call me good? There is no one good but God." He was drawing attention to that word because the correlation here was accurate--Jesus is good because Jesus is God. Jesus was not unwilling, He never once denied His divinity.

I also came to the comments to point out how his misquote of Mark 10:18 causes him to get the whole purpose of the conversation backward. Far from being unwilling, that is a verse where Jesus is very plainly and specifically claiming to be God.

I genuinely believe that honesty is always the best policy while still struggling to be 100% honest. Or, an analogy that hits closer to home, I wholeheartedly believe that my physical, mental, spiritual, and emotional health and well being would be dramatically improved by following the principles exactly as they are laid out by my favorite doctor's diet, but I struggle every single day to stick to those principles. While faith should drive actions, wrestling with our actions and obedience is not only natural but inevitable, especially when it comes to perfecting an ideal in imperfect flesh, which is why God named His own people Israel, meaning to wrestle with God. And yet to give up on belief entirely is to give up on salvation entirely. “Let us weigh the gain and the loss in wagering that God is. Let us estimate these two chances. desperation is the worst time to make a decision, you're brain isn't working efficiently and is clouded by many things. Its always funny to me how many people become religious when they've gotten thrugh a bad situation and this is somehow evidence that god exists and he loves you, if god existed you never would have gone through such suffering in the first place and god would have shown you the way without any need for you to become addicted to drugs.

@@brianbridges8124this argument is always hilarious to me. "If God exists why do people suffer" is essentially answers within the first 10 chapters of the bible. How can God help someone who doesn't even believe that he's real? Often times God *does* show us a way that is least harmful and then we ignore it and choose what we want to do. When the consequences come we blame it on God or say he doesn't exist and do it all over again. Almost all suffering on earth stems from sin and what is sin? Seperation from God. In a perfect world everyone would do their best to avoid sin but unfortunately we do not live in such a world currently.

What an amazing fear of the Lord mr Jordan has. It cannot get any more serious and responsible than that. He searched and he understood the magnitude of God. And his doubts I understand so well. I was there once. God knows very well that even if we aim to do everything perfectly we can't reach it. But in His magnitude He came up with a solution. His love for us is so big that He wants us to reach this perfection, so in essence He want us to reach Him. That is why He gave His only Son, Jesus, that whoever believes in Him should not die, but have eternal life. In other words, be able to reach Him and spend the rest of eternity with Him. Jesus closes this gap that exists between God and us. We do us as best as we can, and Jesus, the intercessor, Son of God, God Himself, is there to do the rest. Imagine you are on your way to God, driving the highway to heaven, but your car broke down, so God sent His Son to pick you up xD It's that easy.
Except Jesus doesn't "do the rest" he pays in full for all the sins of those who believe, you get to go to heaven because of what Jesus did for you, and not because of what you did, put your trust fully in him and not on yourself.
@YYZUnderbelly described in epistles and elsewhere. They were already in an "in between" place called Sheol where Jesus personally brought them out during his time dead for approx 3 days.
Ephesians 2:8 - For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God. Not of works, lest any man should boast. Works based salvation is absolutely incorrect. We cannot bribe the Judge. Grace through faith was there all along in the scripture. Christ did all the work on the cross. Sin paid in full. Believe and receive His saving grace and mercy. Unfortunately Jordan like so many are still stuck in a works based theology where moral deeds must outweigh immoral deeds in order for God to provide salvation from damnation.
@YYZUnderbelly 1 Peter 3:18-19. Google still helps with this. At the time of commenting, I didn't remember where, this morning I straight up just Google search for it and bam. There you go.
“I’m afraid He might exist and that’s the most comical of the three answers but probably the most accurate one.” Unbeknownst to himself, he just answered the question if you paid attention.
This was an amazing response from Jordan, he takes this question very seriously, as one should, and really challenges anyone who throws around their belief in God as some free moral superiority pass to actually look in the mirror and see if they're really living by their so called belief
He’s not copping out, he’s conveying the gravity of what it truly means to believe in God. But the key thing he leaves out is Grace. We all fall short in the glory of God so how could we say we believe in God if we fail constantly? It’s by Gods love and grace that we can, he knows we will fail but it’s because of his love and desire to have a relationship with us that he allows to continue the path even after we fall.
Ten years ago I started doing exactly what he is talking about, garden and everything. I’m amazed every day. I pursued death for so long that when I found true life I changed. I am not who I was and still have work to do. Life is the Pilgrims Progress.

As a Greek Orthodox, i totally agree. And i like and appreciate the perspective you gave. In fact motivating and self reflecting for all of us. The problem is, even if you wanted to, the society is making it almost impossible to act in Gods way.
In reality, faith is not a lifestyle choice "For by the grace of God you are saved through faith. And this is not from yourselves. It is the gift of God. It is not from works so that no one can boast" Ephesians 2:8-9 the path is narrow

@Thawne1338 that doesnt matter, God gave us all different roles in the big scheme of things. He gave women the power to give new life. And none more prominent than Mary who was givin the title mother of God
Thank you! I love the high level of thought that goes into your responses, and the honest articulation. Just a thought: When one commits to 'knowing' God truly, that means in action, speech, and thought - in public and behind closed doors. It is fully understood that humans slip up from time to time - as God created our nature. However, when one's slip-ups become repetitive over a substantial duration, OR when they involve the abuse / manipulation of other individuals, you should realize that your flaw is foundational - and you should really do some repentance before you utter another prayer / show yourself to be a big believer in God to others.
Non sense, a lot of to say few. Believe and thrust humanity instead of imagination. There isn't a reason to support any type of religion. You only have to look at the past and today's hypocrisy to see that it may bring morals, but can we talk about all the blood and catastrophe any religion made ? oh but it did more good than bad ? and it wasn't us at that time, no you support something that did those horrible things, you believe in what others said but it can't be proven, but morals can be teach outside of religions. Believers forsake peoples, they are hypocrite, they think they are good, when every actions they make are selfish and egoistic. Because when you make a action that make others happy, you do it because it make you happy. So you only do it cause it make you happy. The good is in the bad and the bad in the good. People should be teach of how to be a better human, instead of a profiling of how good people should be by the say of a imaginary being.

@bneihaneviim You freely choose to ignore the wrongs of this world. Which make you more hypocrite than others. Know the wrongs to do the goods at your best you could, if you don't do that your actions get affected negatively even if you don't see it. Peterson is a brilliant man, but he doesn't make you understand how the world is, he give his own experience so you can make something out of it. Everyone has to be better than yesterday with the amount of information they get. There is not yet one truth of how to be.
Dr. Peterson, God has given you so much knowledge, and intelligence and understanding. Take God at His Word. We do deserve to by struck down - but His amazing free gift is eternal life through Christ Jesus. And, knowing that we cannot change ourselves to meet His standards, he places His spirit within us to transform us into the likeness of Christ - thus making us into Christians reflecting the person of Christ more and more clearly. He wants you to declare that you believe in Him, if you do - and He wants to help you to live like it.
He brings up a really good point. This was really well put and just shows a mirror. I fail all the time at being a Christian, so this hits the nail on the head. How much do you actually believe?
Four years ago I nearly died in a house fire. I now believe in God because he saved me from dying that night. Trauma from the house fire led me to a stay in a mental hospital. I floated through the hospitalization with ease and through the miracles of grace I was placed in new accommodation in a very short space of time. I love my father Jesus so much for he saved my physical life ...I read his word regularly and can hear him talking to me in whispers in the dead of night. It brings me so much joy to see his works of creation around me every minute of every day To breathe his air alone brings tears of happiness to my eyes. .
Being a Christian is not something that one would keep private if he realises what a great miracle had happened in his heart. A born-again Christian is an earthen vessel carrying a power that's too great for him/her to carry it by himself/herself. That's why we need the Holy Spirit to lead us and guide us to keep us humble and from going astray from the Lord. It's also the word that does the changing and renewing of our minds, just like Hebrews 4 vs 12-13 reads: "For the word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart. Nothing in all creation is hidden from God’s sight. Everything is uncovered and laid bare before the eyes of him to whom we must give account." I wish you lots of blessings in your growth as a Christian and that you may find grace in how to give God all the glory by the influencing of the society all over the world with the wonderful talents and gifts that He bestowed on to you! 💛🙏
YES! Keeping your “faith” private is actually quite Anti-Christ because God calls us to be salt of the earth. We are useless if we just keep the salt locked away in the cabinet, AND it is not up to our own ego to decide how much saltiness gets served and to whom
It’s good to remember that this clip is from a lecture from a number of years ago, and that he has gone through a good deal since then and would perhaps answer the question very differently today.
Romans 1:21-22 Because that, when they knew God, they glorified him not as God, neither were thankful; but became vain in their imaginations, and their foolish heart was darkened. 22 Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools,
basically, he's saying 'you shouldn't be allowed to say you believe in god using words, if this belief isn't consciously reflected in all the actions you take in your life'. most people throw the 'yeah i believe in god' too easily around, without actually having a behaviour that reflects that in their life. this is a great lesson for hypocritical religious people but I think that people who really need to understand this, won't understand it. to me it seems that his language is way too complicated for those people, and the people who do understand this idea are probably sophisticated enough to not throw it around like that. i'm not religious at all anymore but I grew up in such a family. they too suffered from this 'disease' jordan talks about. i do however believe someone can be in service of society (that's really what religion is all about anyway, the rest has absolutely no proof/logical grounds in reality) without the belief in god but they need to believe humans are a net good (or could be, if instructed properly).
4:42 Bookmark But that's exactly one the things that's so beautiful about religion, and about the meaning of the name "Israel" Life and faith are a continuous lesson Judaism, as far as I understand it, realizes no man can be of no sins, and 100% a saint. We have 613 mitzvot, which are sort of commandments. As I understand it, it's not that it's necessarily humanly possible to fulfill all of them, but the human struggle to do so, that comes from the beautiful and human yet godly desore to do so, is imo an important part of faith
That’s the precise word to describe his answer. It’s seems as though many of the commenters missed his point at @4:30 his stance is a humble one that avoids receiving undo praise for simply invoking “belief in God.” He’s careful not to use the Lord’s name in vain. Many think that principle only applies to denigration of God. It also applies to unworthy reference in a positive manner
We all fall short, but we do our imperfect best. When we fall, we listen for Him and He never fails to come and raise us up. And so we live as strangers and pilgrims, always looking for that heavenly country whose builder is God.
Hi Dr. Peterson. I wanted to tell you what God revealed to me about belief. He let me know that on earth things are upside down. The world says see and then you will believe. God's kingdom says believe and then you will see. It is a complete paradigm shift. Faith is the currency of God. Without it you will not know God. I assure you Dr Peterson God exist. He is very real and the spiritual realm is more real than the physical realm. It is permanent and eternal. I experience God everyday. Love in Christ.
Once you let yourself go and accept the Lord - become child like, as Jesus told us to be - these thoughts will vanish. I believe in God, but I am not perfect. Faaaar from it! But I do live in His mercy, thus I don't need to be perfect. In fact, I can't because I am a human being. I am sinful, but not a sinner. This is the core of what Jesus did. When He took our sins upon Him, we got freedom in return. We are free to be a believer even though we are not perfect. I've been a Christian all my life, but it is just recently (the last decade or so - I am now 45) that I have really gotten down deep in my faith; in my understanding of the mysteries in faith. And through that, I am slowly becoming a better person because I want to live my life like He wants me to. All of this time, I _know_ that when I die, He will welcome me into Paradise. Because I believe in God, that Jesus died and is risen - and I am here proclaiming just that. Therefore I have a claim in eternal life in Heaven, because Jesus said so. Look up "the man on the middle cross said I could come", a short UA-cam clip with Allistair Begg. That story tells everything there is to know about His mercy. People who is new to the faith, or are just starting to acknowledge their faith, are like babies. You don't serve a baby a platter of beef, veggies and gravy - the baby cannot process such food. In stead, we feed babies milk, then introduce solid food over time, then gradually the baby can digest "grown up food". And waaaay later in life, the baby learns to enjoy coffee. :D If you are new to the faith, don't expect to be able to handle steak just yet. It'll come, and maybe it will take a long time. But it'll come. I want to confirm something for you (and everybody like you), as a believer myself. Believe in God, and believe that all your sins are forgiven forever! Believe that you are a child of God and that you have His mercy. Just believe it, and become child like - let Jesus take the wheel while you take care of rowing, and your boat will find safe haven. Your life will be transformed through Him. Because there is nothing you yourself can do. That's what Jesus said in the verse about the camel and the eye of the needle. No acts will save you, only His Mercy. And that you shall have, now and forever! Amen! God bless you, my friend! :)
Jordan Peterson is grappling with the most profound truths, and people who want him to just declare his faith (or lack thereof) are utterly missing the point. Belief (or disbelief) in God is a staggeringly complicated thing, and people (believers and unbelievers, both) who do not acknowledge that complexity are deluding themselves and perhaps taking comfort from their delusions. For myself, I am in awe of how hard and how brilliantly this man struggles to discover, understand and cleave to truth.

This illustrates the problem of those who do not believe in God making up what they imagine it means to believe in God. Sitting in His seat as if they can think as God! Believing in God means He teaches you what that means through living as His Child in the only Church which He established. The Eastern Orthodox Church.
This is the most amazing example of prevarication I have ever seen. The only thing that is more amazing is the number of people in the comment section who seem to think that this man is the very definition of wisdom. Amazing!

I love Jordan to death, and he is right to say that you must properly clarify a question before answering it. But at the same time, this is the definition of question dodging. If someone less wise and well-intentioned than Jordan were to do this, people would tear him apart.
He didn't dodge the question in this instance because it wasn't actually asked in this instance. He merely discussed it and what it could potentially mean and why he doesn't like it.
Because there is no believing in God, there is only knowing God, as in the consummation of an ever present relationship that each of us has to come to know for ourselves 🙏💛🙏
Sometimes you don’t have to ask a lot of questions or questions yourself so many times. We just have to let God speak with silent prayer no words. Detach everything from your minds and focus only to him and wait for his glorious divine present.
I totally share this feeling with JP. I don’t feel I have the right to make that proclamation. My Lord, my savior. I’m too sinful and don’t feel I deserve that honor.
For anyone wondering, this means that, for all intents and purposes, his answer is YES. His answer to the question asked the way a simple person would mean it is YES. He is just being intellectually honest and humble about it. I mean, he surely is NOT an atheist. He would never assert that there's no God. He surely does not NOT believe in God. It's just that the concept of belief is very tricky.
Ohh man... he really has a very "special" talent for taking what is considered to pretty much everyone as just a fairly common, simple question "Do you believe in God?" Now Dr. Peterson just added so much weight to that question, it has exceeded the maximum limit of my current brainspace... so I'm gonna have to go and unpack some of that before I can safely allow any response to depart the hangar ya'll...🤯
So Mr. Peterson I think I am genuine person who is indeed qualified to not lie about my experience and admit that I know that God is good and that God is real.
There is a surrendering that takes place in belief. A surrendering that says to God “I cannot but I know You can and I’m giving it to you”. It’s an understanding of the grace of God and the work of the cross.
Jim Caviezel, the "Sound of Freedom" actor, has stated the problem today is more people are afraid of the devil than they are of God. The 'fear' of God is the beginning of wisdom. That is a reverential esteem for His Word that requires an embracing response of It that delivers us from our own nature.
I don't even worry about this man.... I got a feeling he will give his life to Jesus. The Lord pulled the veil from my eye's when i turned 40. If you still have breath in your lungs it's never too late to know Jesus.
You can meet God, everyone can, you just have to look deep inside yourself. In order to do this you need to have been working on yourself and have control over your emotions and let the notion of your ego “die”. I have personally met God, it is the single most life changing experience I’ve ever had. So far it has (still) cured me of depression and anxiety among many other things. It gives you a new understanding of everything. (and yes, I know this sounds crazy).
"This is a faithful saying and worthy of all acceptance, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners, of whom I am chief." ~ Paul the Apostle, 1 Timothy 1:15 Nobody has the right to claim allegiance to God in any way that implies a good adherence to His will. This is exactly why His Son was beaten, tortured, and killed bearing our sins.

When i watch you and your daughter do the interview and her wanting to even go as far as trying haciena ( i Hope i spelled that right probably not😅) to find a higher being or possibly God. I said to myself if they only knew they didn't need that to connect to Jesus. Short of it is for 3 solid years you've been more vocal about God until you got really sick. That too i believe had an affect in the lord working on you. Because only he can make something happen that really convinces anybody. For a lack of a better way to explain it. But the seeds were being water the entire time and it was amazing to watch and sometimes it was nail-biting and on the edge of the seat 🙏 to God somehow someway tp make you see and accept the water given to you to drink. We all lead you to the water but it was you that had to form that relationship with God yourself and ask him to come onto you and your heart. I see the difference. More and more when you would really get into it with your guests. But then something changed. At which poiint i said to a friend Jesus is working on Peterson. We actually had a chuckle then prayed for your salvation and that you would one day truly accept Jesus as your lord and savior. ❤
I believe in God through faith and is the most common sense of the purpose and existence of everything. How do I make that conclusion you might ask? I began to know God through the Holy Bible and prayers, then I start feeling the truth Spirituality, that is beyond our fleshy comprehension.
You know Jordan..I believed in..loved and feared their just punishments. And with all that I was still tempted to be willful! My parents loved me..and I counted on that. God loves me..and I count on that!
Every time I listen to Dr. Peterson discuss God, I am reminded of Matthew 11:25: "At that time Jesus answered and said, I thank thee, O Father, Lord of heaven and earth, because thou hast hid these things from the wise and prudent, and hast revealed them unto babes." In other words ... it's NOT complicated. The crucial question is not "Do you believe in God?", but rather, "Do you know God?". James, the brother of Jesus, wrote in James 2:19: “Thou believest that there is one God; thou doest well: the devils also believe, and tremble.” So then, what is the pre-eminent thing to KNOW about God? John, a disciple and witness to the living Christ writes in John 3:16: “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.” So then, how do we demonstrate our faith in Jesus? By believing his Word and keeping his commandments. That's not complicated either. When asked what the greatest commandment is by a religious scholar, Jesus responded in Matthew 22: 37-40: “Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. This is the first and great commandment. And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets."
Jordan has a very good point! What you believe should indeed dictate your actions! We are however all flawed human beings, however the Christian has God's Holy Spirit living within them and therefore though their actions aren't perfect they ought to be and most of the time are in line with our beliefs because of the work of the Holy Spirit in our lives. Put plainly we aren't all we should be but neither are we what we used to be. It is also impossible to want God, to want true righteousness or to carry it out without God enabling you to do so according to the Scriptures. God gives His common grace to many but His effectual grace to few. The question "Do you believe in God" is indeed quite vague because Jesus points out that even the demons believe but they tremble even though they hate God and rebel against Him. James 2:19. The conclusion the Bible reaches and teaches is that faith without works (not the kind that are carried out in order to try and be righteous but the kind that proceed out of thankfulness for having been saved and made righteous through Christ with God) is dead. James 2:26.
I believe I'm a sinner saved by grace. Even thought I'm as filthy as dirty rages He has made me as clean as the falling snow. Hebrews 4:14-16, We are a work in progress if we truely believe. So choose you this day who you will serve.

We all fall short. He fully understands what the reality of there being a God means-that there is a standard. But to not hit that standard doesn’t mean you don’t believe.
yes and therefore Jesus, and the Death and Resurrection.
I believe that what one says is more of their belief than what they do, in causalities or ego stuff or whatever.
Anyone who believes they obey God perfectly has deceived themself and does not understand the gospel
Those that are Real w GOD are not on UA-cam
I'm starting to invest most of my time watching his content.

I can't speak for Jordan, i feel like he is on his journey to build a relationship and i think its absolutely beautiful ❤️
John 3:16-18

how can you place trust in a fictional character?
@@belialpig3567 - there’s more historical evidence for the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus Christ than any other event in antiquity. I challenge you to prove it didn’t happen. You can start by studying former skeptics Simon Greenleaf, C.S. Lewis, Josh McDowell, and Lee Strobel who all came to a saving faith in Jesus after failing to prove Him a “fictional character”.
@@belialpig3567 by recognizing he's not fictional of course
Jordan is a beautiful soul, but also a brilliant example of how much the human soul fears love. In every interview I’ve seen of him, where god and the divine appears in him, he bursts into tears, and resist the grace that really wants to work, and be with him, as he teaches with grace without knowing it. He resists it, but is a great communictor of it.
Fearing love makes as much sense as embracing being hated.
He still refuses to accept Christ in his heart, his not saved yet, it would be heartbreaking to lose someone like this to hell.
That is foolish thinking. Remember that only God knows his heart, do not attempt to judge him yourself when you barely know him.
Then once we have been imputed with that Godly righteousness, we get to conform ourselves more and more into the image of it
Thanks!

"And at the ninth hour Jesus cried out in a
loud voice, "Eloi, Eloi, lama sabachthani?"
which means, "My God, my God, why have
you forsaken me?"
If Jesus was GOD, then did Paul say in 1
Corinthians 8:6
"yet for us there is but one God, the Father,
from whom all things came and for whom we
live; and there is but one Lord, Jesus Christ,
through whom all things came and through

He often puts words to things that I personally fail to articulate well. I must say, however, regarding the misquote at 9:15 and forward... Jesus did not refuse to be called "good." He was addressed by the man as "good teacher," and Jesus responded with, "why do you call me good? There is no one good but God." He was drawing attention to that word because the correlation here was accurate--Jesus is good because Jesus is God. Jesus was not unwilling, He never once denied His divinity.

I love that he doesn’t collapse the question into its most expedient pathway.
That he is comfortable scattering in a organised manner into multiple pathways to address the question.

Answer 1: The Privacy Answer
1) None of your Damn Business
Answer 2: The Reframing Answer
1) That depends on what you mean by Believe

And although he didn’t say it explicitly I am guessing the same kind of reframing would apply to the concept of God.
Given it can mean so many things to so many different people, secular or religious.
Answer 3: The Comical Answer
1) I’m Afraid that he might exist
Answer 4: The Suppositional Answer
Suppose that you do
What are you called upon
What are you called upon (Christian)
What are you called upon (Christian: Declarative & Embodied)
0) Act out (Spark of) Divinity
1) Logos
2) Sacrifices
3) Arc in Order
4) Burden of Being
5) The Garden
6) The Golden Rule
I thought his distinction between acting out & saying or what I would say embodied and declarative was brilliant.
Furthermore the Suppositional answer despite having heavy Christian connotations further brilliance & speaks to his understanding of The Bible in a Psychological Context.
Often when I am asked this question I tend to answer with a variant of Answer 2.
It is good to have some other tools in the toolbox!
If you gain, you gain all; if you lose, you lose nothing. Wager, then, without hesitation that He is.” -Blaise Pascal

If you do this you will meet God as well.
Brother, the only necessary qualification for believing in God is being a sinner. "Not having the right" to approach him or the ability to please him is precisely the reason you NEED to believe in him! Belief is you saying - God, I'm not enough, and I'll never be: save me. Don't let the scandal of the cross become a stumbling block to you, precious brother - humble yourself before your Maker and Savior; throw yourself on his mercy. He will not fail to catch you, and in due time lift you up.
Belief and faith are the strongest forces in this chaotic world.
Jordan consistently fails to understand that believing in God doesn’t eliminate those of our appetites that are disordered. Real Christian’s believe but struggle to overcome sin every day. Sometimes we succeed and other times we fail. This is precisely why we understand ourselves as entirely dependent on the grace of God. Waiting until we are perfect to give ourselves to God is ignoring God’s call. He loves us and saves us as we are. He is demanding but at the same time understands our struggles in the way a good parent understands that kids will fail.

So not "yes", & not "no". Just a long "maybe". Which means he's not sure. He talks about "God" all the time, but he's not sure "God" exists. Cool.
Very well explained especiallly in the end. To believe in God properly, to believe in that high of all values, you must act it.
Wrong. No one can be without sin. You have it backwards. Everyone sins. The believers admit it and beg forgiveness. The others see no need.

Believers forsake peoples, they are hypocrite, they think they are good, when every actions they make are selfish and egoistic. Because when you make a action that make others happy, you do it because it make you happy. So you only do it cause it make you happy. The good is in the bad and the bad in the good. Everything is uncovered and laid bare before the eyes of him to whom we must give account."
I wish you lots of blessings in your growth as a Christian and that you may find grace in how to give God all the glory by the influencing of the society all over the world with the wonderful talents and gifts that He bestowed on to you! 💛🙏
YES! Keeping your “faith” private is actually quite Anti-Christ because God calls us to be salt of the earth. We are useless if we just keep the salt locked away in the cabinet, AND it is not up to our own ego to decide how much saltiness gets served and to whom

Life and faith are a continuous lesson
Judaism, as far as I understand it, realizes no man can be of no sins, and 100% a saint. We have 613 mitzvot, which are sort of commandments. As I understand it, it's not that it's necessarily humanly possible to fulfill all of them, but the human struggle to do so, that comes from the beautiful and human yet godly desore to do so, is imo an important part of faith
I SO admire his integrity on that issue.
It's definitely more self-aware and intellectually honest than a lot of people's answers/positions in this area.
That’s the precise word to describe his answer. Hi Dr. Peterson. I wanted to tell you what God revealed to me about belief. He let me know that on earth things are upside down. The world says see and then you will believe.

He is very real and the spiritual realm is more real than the physical realm. It is permanent and eternal. I experience God everyday. Love in Christ.
started my journey into the evangelic believe a few months ago and this is exactly how i feel

Its your Black suit on Mauna Loa that brings me here... I've watched all your videos and picked every single Letter coming out from your sacred temple 🫶.❤ . Your words are like White lights in the darkness. Listening to your words of wisdom reminds me of my grandfather Kha and his brother Mekhe. Its a very long story I wont border you with. Forever in your debt ❤❤❤... I recalled one of your lines you mentioned something about LOVE. And I quote "LOVE is the Universal TRUTH, and it exists EVERYWHERE, even in the depth of Hell".
Believing in God is the starting foundation and the knowledge is the building blocks to life itself.
Amazing. You must earn the right to believe in God. What an insightful position.
I would rather believe in god than what our government had to offer !!!!!
They both promise jam tomorrow.
Government only tortures the living
Because there is no believing in God, there is only knowing God, as in the consummation of an ever present relationship that each of us has to come to know for ourselves 🙏💛🙏
Sometimes you don’t have to ask a lot of questions or questions yourself so many times. We just have to let God speak with silent prayer no words.
Detach everything from your minds and focus only to him and wait for his glorious divine present.
I totally share this feeling with JP. I don’t feel I have the right to make that proclamation. My Lord, my savior. I’m too sinful and don’t feel I deserve that honor.
GOD DOES EXIST I MET HIM WHEN I WAS ON LIFE SUPPORT GOD IS GREAT
Only reason not to believe in God means your not willing to place anything else above yourself.
There are many things someone could place above themselves without believing in a deity: children, family, society, country... to name just a few.
And many who say they believe in God put themselves first all the time. Your point lacks substance.
Is that so?
What a patently absurd statement.
I am one of JP's biggest fans...but dude. You could just say "I don't know" lol
Yes, but no, HE can't. He has to use this kind of obfuscating babble to sound profound to the dim masses. It is how he developed his "brand."
THIS , Ladys and Gentleman is - Humility - 🔥
Ohh man... he really has a very "special" talent for taking what is considered to pretty much everyone as just a fairly common, simple question "Do you believe in God?"
Now Dr.
My life is much better now with God in it.I pray everyday to keep my faith alive.
If you really believe, you are enlightened. That is the best answer I heard of any theist ever.
"This is a faithful saying and worthy of all acceptance, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners, of whom I am chief." ~ Paul the Apostle, 1 Timothy 1:15
Nobody has the right to claim allegiance to God in any way that implies a good adherence to His will. This is exactly why His Son was beaten, tortured, and killed bearing our sins.
For the last three years I've watched and listened to you and your guests/lectures. You have come so far. I watched Jesus work on you. I prayed and prayed you would finally accept and truly step into the light the dioor the only way to heaven and the bigger picture. You're juat to smart not to. I knew you needed something big to finally nudge you to Jesus and Christianity. It's been an amazing transformation.
Hebrews 4:14-16,
We are a work in progress if we truely believe.
So choose you this day who you will serve.
