I've been using the 30mm Sigma for a couple of years as my go-to lens and have been extremely happy with it. I've also been amazed with the 56mm, not only for portraits, but also for street photography.
I have been loving the 30mm and if I had the money I'd love to try the 56mm!
I just have to drop this comment, have you noticed you're out of focus with your 16mm?
Content of video is otherwise great, thanks
Thanks for commenting! I haven't noticed being out of focus much, but I leave it on autofocus, so I get what I get haha
Hi is this Lens good for Movies shooting in Low light ? Thanks
Yeah this lens is good for video work and is great in low light!
Awesome work again Andrew ...would worked out to be almost a 50mm which is very nice ...we accustomed seeing the field of view all the time...keep up the good work
Hey, thanks man!
Beautiful lens. I got mine for my M6. My only cons is the slow of AF sometimes but it is manageable. Very worth it with it’s low aperture size.
Yeah, it's definitely not perfect, but it's one of the best lenses I've used in this price range!
Great video my guy, hope to see you grow! I love my Sigma, I've had it since 2018 and it's still my main lens I use on the a6k.
It's just a great lens all around! Thanks for watching!
We need to see a video abbout viltrox 27mm 1.2 vs sigma 30mm 1.4
is this good for cinema filmmaking ?
Yeah it's a great lens for filmmaking!
Let's check out some sample photos, shows a highly edited photos🤦🏿♂️ is this a lense review or a show off?
Sorry you didn't like my photos, but them being edited doesn't change the fact that this lens is very nice!
@@AndrewKnepper yes it does.
I can take pictures with a crappy lens and make them awesome in LR. People are interested in sample pics without edits.
I am contemplating purchasing this lens for my Canon EOS 7s 35mm film camera to take street photos with. I purchased the Canon 28mm 1.8 but since this is an older lens I think this Sigma will have much better focus speed and image quality. I think 28mm vs 30mm is not too big of a difference. Plus I have heard that the Sigma lenses have a bit more color punch to them compared to Canon lenses. Thanks so much for this video!!! **** Oh I just noticed this is an EF-M mount and it also comes in an EF-S mount and both will not work with EF mounts sadly... **** Still a great video!! haha
Hi Andrew, That's a great video you made here, really had a valuable content. What your thoughts on Sigma 18-35mm f/1..8 ?
I have a review about it!
Hey Andrew. Imagine I have a 16-50mm Kit lens and a 50mm F1.8 prime. Which next lens should I buy . The Sigma 16mm or the 30mm. ( I shoot everything. photos and videos )
Depends on what you want to do with the lens exactly. The Sigma 16mm is very wide and good for vlogging, UA-cam videos, and landscape photography. The Sigma 30mm is better for portraits, product photography, video b-roll, and street photography. I recommend both!
@@AndrewKnepper great. I don't do v loggin at all I guess the 30mm might be a good place to start. By the way I also capture textures of things. So 16mm might be a bit distorted up close
Do you recommend this lens for product photography and some car videos for instagram? I would be getting it for my GH6
Yes the results will not disappoint!
Excellent video 😮!
Thank you!
My a6400 doesn’t have ibis. Should I buy it for low light handheld photography ?
It's going to be an affordable lens that's also very fast so it would be a decent option in my opinion!
@@AndrewKnepper Thank you!
I have an issue with it, focus hunting/breathing, back focusing even if eye focused, aperture stuck up.
What camera are you using?
@@AndrewKnepper A6600
Thank you for this review! I’m not sure if I should take this one, I’ve read in the comments that it’s similar to the 50mm and I always use that one (mostly at 1.8 since I want the bokeh effect), but I’m looking for another one that allows me to obtain that effect in full figure portraits and to not have to go far from the person. I’ve thought about the 35mm at 1.8 at least but it’s quite expensive though /: which one would you recommend?
The Sigma 30mm is great for portraits! Anything with a good apature from 24mm to 50mm is good to use on APS-C cameras for portraits!
What is better for Canon M50..?
Canon 50mm f/1.8 STM + adapter or Sigma 30mm f/1.4..?
I prefer the focal length of the 30mm but the 50mm is still a good cheap option! Totally a preference in my opinion.
I have an M50 Mark ii, and I'm using canon 50mm 1.8 lens, I also have a kit 15-45 lens and a kit 55-250mm lens.
But after using prime lens (50mm) I can barely use the kit lenses, that's why I needed a 2nd prime lens, and I'm confused of which focal length should I go for?
23mm (viltrox 1.4) ?
Or
30mm/33mm (sigma 1.4/viltrox 1.4)
The only one I've used is the 30mm 1.4 and it's a great lens! Any prime with a low apature is going to be a great option!
How do you use Viltrox with EF-M?
Hi! I just got mine today (brand new). When I tried it out, it made some noise when: 1. used on autofocus, 2. pointed upward, and 3. rotating the MF ring (faint sound). Please let me know if this is normal?
Sorry I'm just now seeing this comment! Yeah, mine makes a faint sound when focusing, but only when I'm listening for it! Hope this helps!
How much distortion does it have?
I'm not a super technical reviewer but I've not noticed any really
i am buying a camera for the 1st time , i am not going to start of with kits lens , what shud i buy with the body of sony a6100 ? sigma 30mm or sigma 18-50 zoom lens ?
18-50mm f2.8 is more versatile, but also more money. I really like the 30mm f1.4. I would personally probably start out with the 30mm f1.4 but both are great lenses!
@@AndrewKnepper I mean whatever lens I buy , I won't be able to buy another for atleast 1 year.and usually people compare the entire sigma prime trio vs sigma 18-50. I need the lens for street , fashion , product , landscape photography. Also I'm afraid how much chrome abberation and vignetting will happen on each one , I'm not able to compare that between the 2 lens , how do I do that ?
Planning to get the 30mm sigma too but opt in with canon 22mm f2 because of the size paired with my canon m100.
You won't be disappointed with either! The sigma 30mm is more and is twice the size, but I think it's better quality than the 22mm. Maybe I need to make a comparison video... 🤔
@@AndrewKnepper yeah do a comparison. And i got the 22mm f2 for cheap price. Planning to get a sigma 16mm 1.4 or a telephoto. Since im vlogging more with the kit since it has IS.
Is it a cropped sensor… wanna use it with Mark 4
Not sure what camera that is but this was made for crop sensor cameras!
Hey, im having a Sigma 56mm 1.4, so should I get a 30 mm or 23 mm next? I'm more into portrait photography.
You can't go wrong with either. I haven't used the 23mm, but I know the 30mm is the perfect focal range for portraits!
Can't wait to buy this lens.
Definitely worth the hype and money!
I just ordered this lens 🥰
If i have a 50mm would it be different having a sigma 30mm? Or is it the same function?
Very similar in focal length. I would say you don't really need the sigma 30mm if you already have the Canon 50mm, but the sigma 30mm is a very sharp M-mount lens at f1.4. It's a great lens!
what about the distortion? its okey? or u got problem wit it
I haven't noticed any distortion with this lens!
I use a Sony 18-105mm, and want to buy this lens for videography because I need a lens with a small aperture, is this lens worth it? because I saw he didn't have OSS
what settings did you use for that day? My shots look like crap with the same lens
I usually use the AV mode and my photos don't look that good until I edit them in light room! Keep trying things out till you find what works for you!
Can it change its appature?
If course! It's maximum apature is F1.4 and minimum is F16
so far as the stabilization for video do you think a gimbal will take care of that mostly ?
Yes! If you use a gimbal it won't matter if your lens has image stabilization or not. A gimbal will always get you a smooth shot!
For a beginner in portrait, which lens would you recommend? i recently bought Zve10 with kit lens. My budget for a new lens is low. which one do you suggest?
I'm not very familiar with Sony lenses, but I think generally Sigma makes some of the best budget lenses out there!
Thank you. i am also looking into sigma lenses. in your opinion on sigma lenses, for portrait 30mm f1.4 or 56mm f1.4, which one is better with zve10?@@AndrewKnepper
I feel so sigma!
What the Sigma
you look like ryan gosling
Hey thanks!
Is this lens good for sports?🙏🏻
I believe you may want something with a further focal distance for sports. I'd recommend checking out some zoom lenses.
Is this an APS-C lens?
Yep, it's designed for APS-C cameras like Sony, Canon EF-M and I think Fujifilm and Nikon.
Would you say it’s appropriate for just content creation / Videos please?
It's a great all around lens due to it being a f1.4 so it's good in low light and it's also a 30mm which is a very comfortable focal range for most types of photography or video!
@@AndrewKnepper Thank for responding
This is RF or EF
Ican use to EOS R
It's actually EF-M mount so unfortunately it is not going to work on any R camera. Sigma does make a 30mm EF mount though so I'd check that out!
@@AndrewKnepper Thanks
I have an crop sensor camera and only an shot... should i buy this one or 24-70 f2.8 ?
24-70 2.8
Hey I have a question, I am having problems where my 30mm 1.4f sigma lens has a distortion or warped and I want to know how I fix it and do you also have it too?
Is it all the time or when do you notice it warped all the time?
Try unmounting and mounting it well again. probably the "teeth" are not aligned well. here that click sound when mounting the lens. just maybe .
Did you put on a crop sensor?
How's the auto focus in video
It's great! It obviously depends on your camera too, but paired with the Canon M6 Mark II and Canon M50 it's quiet, smooth, and quick!
@@AndrewKnepper I have sony zve10
Im using kit lens, not really satisfied with the bokeh effect. My iphone beats this lens sometimes. Should i go with Sigma lenses?
Yeah I'd recommend the Sigma 30mm!
@@AndrewKnepper 30 or 56mm? which is better for Portraits?
Is it compatible with the M50 mark II ? I'm a beginner
Yes if you pick up the "M-mount" version it is compatible with the Canon M50 II! Link in the description!
This one or viltrox 27mm f1.2?
I haven't tried the Viltrox lens, but I can vouch for the Sigma lens!
@@AndrewKnepper thanks! I'm keeping it then! There isn't much difference as far as the focal length anyways, I guess.
I’m stuck between either getting the 30mm sigma or the 18-50mm , I am a beginner. Which one would u recommend?
If you have the money go for the 18-50mm that may be a better option because of the flexibility. It's like getting a 18mm, 30mm, and a 50mm all in one lens. I have never use that lens because it's not an m-mount, so I can't speak from experience. But if it's like the other sigma lenses than go for it!
as a beginner I would lean towards prime lenses like this. 30mm on a crop sensor leads to a good all-purpose lens- some landscape, portraits, and mostly natural and street shots. I don't think the peak photo quality of the 18-50 mm is as good as any of the prime sigma lenses individually, and the 30 mm is the most versatile of the sigma trio.
also, this is a bargain relatively speaking, if you get it for $250-270.
hello, I’ve heard some complaints about high rate of chromatical aberrations on this lens, especially on apertures wider than f2.0. What would you say about that?
Hmm that's not something I've noticed with this lens
great video, however, I do love how people, not just you, show sample images that have been edited. How does an edited photo in any way show the qualities of any lens on the market? Bog standard jpegs taken with a lens would show so much more in a truer sense.
I definitely hear you on that! I think most people edit their photos and I just feel like posting unedited photos are kind of boring... But I could show the before and after in future lens reviews! Thanks for the feedback!
You sir are an awesome human and your family is gorgeous. Take care of them and keep being inspired. 🤍📸🏌️♂️
Hey thanks! Will do!
