Sigma 30mm F1.4 for Fujifilm X-Mount Review | Video Autofocus Test + Photo/video samples

- I have been using the Sigma 30mm F1.4 DC DN lens for Fujifilm X-Mount. For Fujifilm shooters, the Sigma 30mm F1.4 lens is a very capable storytelling lens for those who are on a budget. At a 45mm equivalent focal length on the Fuji X system, this lens can produce images that are pretty close to the way the scene looks in real life.
In this video, I talk about my experience in using this lens for both photo and video. I also talk about the autofocus performance for video shooting.

SIGMA has released a firmware update for the 30mm F1.4 lens X Mount, with improved AF performance and accuracy!
www.sigma-global.com/en/lenses/c016_30_14/?tab=support&local=firmware
Did you notice any difference?
Can you do a review on the fw update?
Greatly increased?
i do suffer same auto-focus problem in this lens (i'm using Fuji XA3 by the way), which currently I often shoot fast moving objects (e.g:children). This auto-focus problem really bothers me as it really difficult to get a focused image when children are moving. Today i updated the lens' firmware also the XA3's firmware but I don't get much improvement yet. Do other folks get better result after updating firmware?
@@MethiusDwijaya Fujifilm is a photogrphic centric camera, Sony has the best autofocus for video. I also have an XT-4, autofocus sucks
It's dope to have come across your channel and this video because I just purchased this exact lens for my Fuji xt3 yesterday. I used it on a shoot today and man the picture quality was beautiful. I've been mainly using the 23mmf2 for my main lens but adding the 30mm to the arsenal is a gamechanger. I shot video today on it as well and it came out great!
The Sigma 30mm is an underrated lens. The image quality is really good at F1.4, and the price is really a bargain. Glad you bought this lens!
Lots of great photos in this video! Your review is enjoyable to watch.
thank you for watching! I pretty enjoyed the photos shot in this focal length! Stay tuned to my next review on the Sigma 56mm F1.4 for Fuji X mount!
Very helpful and informative. The photo and video samples really aid demonstrating the pros and cons, and definitely help the viewers make up their mind on whether or not to get this lens. Thank you!
thank you for watching! Will update the channel with more videos like this!
The perfect review. I wish more UA-camrs made them like this. Thanks!
Thank you for watching!
helped me the most of all of the videos!
glad to help!
Nice review! I am thinking of trying out this lens for my Fujifilm X-H2S.
It's a really good budget lens for the XH2S
Loved it! & subscribed
Thank you!
Loved the video
thank you for watching!
exactly what i needed
Very helpful. And beautiful footage of Hong Kong too. Thanks
Thank you for watching!
Your explain is easy to understand for even me , Japanese 🤓and English listening lesson for me also 🤓
I’m XT20 with same sigma lens use but I
It’s very useful video !thank you very much !
You can consider the 56mm F1.4 too, it's also a very good and affordable portrait lens for the Fuji system
I just stumbled across this review. Very nicely done. I use this lens on an XT3 and XT30-II. I really have no complaints with focus or IQ. When I play with manual focus I mostly use BBF which grabs focus instantly and then I can fine tune with the focus ring if recomposing.
How to do this?
Move the focus mode switch to M. Point at your target, press the AFL button (whichever button you assign if not AFL) to focus. Fine tune with the focus ring.
I was going to buy the 16mm 1.4. I used it on video and this af-c hunting is not a good choice for me. I may go for the fujifilm 18mm 1.4 even tho it's more expensive but will eliminate the frustration when you in the shoot. thanks for your test and review.
Great vídeo! 👍🏼
Thank you!
Great review👍 and beautiful b-roll shots. In a world of perfect shots and perfect focus, kinda seems nice to see some imperfections, seems less clinical and more "real". Wonder how this compares with the Viltrox 33mm 1.4...
I like the 45mm equivalent focal length on the Sigma 30mm 1.4, this is great for snapshots. The 33mm of Viltrox and Fuji gives a 50mm focal length which is a bit tight for my style of shooting
Nice video. Very useful for me.
Glad it's useful for you!
great review-!! thanx-!!
Thank you for watching!
Thank u for this sharing
you are welcome!
nice clean image
Is the song in the beginning from Sarah Kang, loved the intro! And thanks for the samples and review, I was looking to get this for some time now
makasi penjelasannya kak, bagus
Anew dude here .... nice work. keep it up
thank you!
hope you can review the Sigma 56 1.4 as well.
and the upcoming Sigma 18-50 for X mount soon too
sigma does gives us some more budget friendly options
Currently asking Sigma for loaning the lenses, will do review videos for these budget Sigma lenses for sure! Thanks for your support!
Thank you for your review! Wanted to go for that lense for animal fotography. But the bad AF, combined with the usually kinda bad AF of the Fuji (X-T3), kills it.
The Sigma lenses work much better on the new XH2S and XT5, combined with the latest firmware update
@@movichris Well, I try to keep that in mind when upgrading. Thank you!
Cómo haces Pra capturar la pantalla de la cámara así de limpio?
really good review, are you going to review the sigma 16mm 1.6 for x mount ?
would love to review the 16mm F1.4 too, I'm asking Sigma for loaning the lens
I'm curious about the slow motion setting in the 00:16 second section of the video. 120fps to 24fps ?
Very informative.
Xc 35 f2 ideal for video? Or viltrox 33 f1.4?
Kindly suggest me.
Great review ✨
I have a question .. Is this lens compatible with fuji camera x-A5?
Also, what lenses are suitable for this camera?
Yes, you can use the Sigma 30mm on the X-A5. You can also check out the small Fuji primes 16/23/35/50mm lenses
Hello, I found your video very helpful. What is the gimbal you are using for your Fuji Camera?
Most of the time I shoot handheld. I use the DJI RSC 2 for movement shots
fuji xc 35 f2 or sigma 30 1.4 which is better ? for video mainly and some photos
Hello Chris, thank you for this test but I would have liked your opinion between the Sigma 30 and the Fuji 33? Which of the two would you recommend? Is there any real difference after printing?
If you are on a budget, I would recommend the Sigma 30mm F1.4. Image quality is very good and it delivers sharp detail even when shooting wide open at F1.4. The Fuji 33mm F1.4 will deliver even sharper detail, especially when paired with the new XH2 or XT5 for shooting at 40 megapixels.
For printing, I guess you would notice a bit of difference in sharpness if you are printing big sizes. Go for the Fuji 33mm if you want the best result.
Hey great video! Been using this lens too with xs10.. autofocus in videos is kinda frustrating for me especially in lot of details shot and movement shot.. what is the best af settings in your opinion for video with this lens? Thank you!
I set the af settings of tracking sensitivity at +2, and AF speed at -1
a cine lens would do you good for videos
I just ordered this lens for my X-S10. What's your opinion on this lens in long term usage?
Chris, the sigma lens dont have aperture ring. How can I use aperture mode in X-t3? It´s possible change aperture in camera body?
you can adjust the aperture using the command dials on the XT3
I really like your reviewing style and production quality. What lens do you recommend on Fuji system for videos? Also what camera + lens are you using for your shots of the Fuji XT3 in this video?
Thank you for watching! I recommend using the new F1.4 primes (18mm, 23mm, 33mm) for shooting video on Fuji. All 3 lenses have really good autofocus and image quality. In this video, I use the Lumix S5 and the Sigma 28-70mm for shooting the b-roll shots of the XT3
Hi very nice and shots. If you compare the sigma 33mm f1.4 and the fujifilm 35mm f2 which is better at sharpness and af?
The Sigma 30mm has very good sharpness and good af for video (after firmware update). If you need the aperture ring, the Sigma is not a good option
Have you update firmware for this lens yet? Please check it out to see if auto focus improve.
I currently using the Fuji 35mm F1.4. The firmware update for the Sigma 30mm should be good for video af, I will try to ask Sigma to borrow the lens to test the new update
Are there any firmware updates that you're aware of? If so, perform the update through the camera? In my case X-T4.
Yes, there's new firmware update on Sigma official website, it improves the AF speed and accuracy
I found only your review on the tube that reveals that pesky focus hunting problem (even in AF-S), i bought it anyway but i hope they will fix it in firmware (there is no new lens firmware for X mount version :( )
Thank you for great review.
so, does it have firmware update? i'm interested to this lens, but that focus hunting would be a dealbreaker for me..
@@hanif_afa I have the same problem with video autofocus. For this moment I can't find any solution for that. I'm using area mode for autofocus, and +1 -3 for af-c custom settings. Sometimes I'm using touch screen for autofocus point and it is usable, but not comfortably. We must wait for firmware update :/ But it is really awesome lens!
@@hanif_afa Problem was fixed via firmware for sony users, there no drivers for fuji version yet :( but at manual / for photo, that lens is outstanding.
@@LucasHalastra just bought this lens. Afc we're horrible atm. But yeah sharp glass and good build quality hopefully firmware can be updated.
I am ow at the point just using manual focus rather than afc for video :(
I will video myself outside.
Can you tell me a best overall video lens for great bokeh and sharp image?
If you are using Fuji, get the 18mm F1.4 lens, it's the only lens you need to get great bokeh for talking shots, smooth autofocus, and sharp image quality at F1.4.
I have the same autofocus issues with video mode. Is anybody found any solution for this problem?
Should be a firmware fix, need to wait for Sigma to release new firmware for the lens
@@movichris unfortunately there is no fujifilm option in sigma website for this lens..
Hey is it sharper than the old 35mm 1.4 Fuji lens?
yes, it is sharper with less chromatic aberration.
Which one is best for photography? Sigma 30mm F1.4 vs Viltrox 56mm 1.4 stm ???
Any of the sigma lenses are much better, no fringing or chromatic aberration even at the lowest Apertures
This video shows that this lens is capable of some of the worst purple fringing I've ever seen
The bokeh is definitely better than on the 35mm F1.4 fuji.
The bokeh looks really smooth like the Fuji 35mm F1.4
Is the auto focus faster?
Hello bro, i have a Sigma 56 mm, and I'm more into portrait photography. Getting a 30 mm will be worth it while I'm having a 56 mm?
The 30mm is a good match to the 56mm you have. Or you can consider the new Sigma 23mm F1.4 lens if you are looking for a wider perspective. I prefer shooting with the Sigma 30mm as this focal length is great for everyday shots
@chriscinevlog thanks for the help. I appreciate 👏🏼
Is the fujifilim xc 35 f2 better than this lens???
The sigma 30mm F1.4 is better in sharpness and bokeh when shooting wide open at F1.4
fuji focus issue not lens.
Fuji 35 f2 or sigma 30 1.4?
The Fuji 35mm f2 is a better option if you need a smaller and more compact lens to fit on the X-Pro 3 and X-E4. The Sigma 30mm 1.4 is good for shooting in low light, and it's sharp at F1.4.
The Sigma lenses don't have the aperture ring. It reminds me of Sony so I don't like the experience. Great video though.
Yes, I see many Fuji users don't really like the lens not having an aperture ring
Sigma30f14 or viltrox33f14??? which one is better. in terms of image quality and autofocus.
I would choose the Sigma for better image quality at F1.4, the bokeh is pretty smooth that looks similar to the Fuji 35mm F1.4.
Is the picture quality better than iphone 13 pro ?
Yes, especially shooting in low light conditions
