Sorry but “Wanted” was the stupidest idea ever brought to film. A bullet cannot be made to curve horizontal plane except to curve downward. Only redeeming factor is Angelina Jolie.
For an underrated badass on Tubi, I’d recommend 52 Pick-Up to anyone who like crime movies. Considering its cast and its pedigree, it really is surprising how many people have never heard of it, let alone how few have actually seen it.
Just a point of reference on Hacksaw Ridge... Garfield's character was not a conscientious objector to the war - in fact, he was a patriot and wanted to serve in the war. More accurately, due to his faith he refused to carry a weapon or inflict harm on others. Subtle, but big difference in motivation and plot. Just some thoughts.
One Friedkin’s overlooked, to me, subtle masterpieces, is “To Live and Die in L.A.”. In fact, I remember the Siskel and Ebert’s review praising the chase scene because it was the first time the car chase was going against traffic. I wish someone would stream that movie. Friedkin did another movie (that I think doesn’t get that much love) and he said it was his favorite, “Jade”.
Not to mention William Freidkins "Sorcerer"...you get a chance see this iconic flick, came from a great book "The wages of fear"...It was a very underrated great.
‘I think what we have here is a failure to communicate.’ Haven’t seen this movie in 20-30 years but will never forget THAT line. As a teen in the 60s, I certainly had communication issues. So, there’s that…….
just saw it a while back on prime. okay, the idea of an unrepentant rebel against a oppressive authority wasn't bad, but there was nothing more to it than that. it's one of those things where they did a good job with it, but since then other films have taken the idea and done a better job.
“I have come here to chew bubble gum and kick ass. And I'm all out of bubble gum” - Love this Movie. Have not seen it in Years. Thx for the reminder👍😎!!
You forgot one of the best vampire movies of all time and Bill Paxton is in it Directed By Kathryn Bigelow. And this not on this list is a tragedy. Near Dark!!!!
in COOL HAND LUKE, Strother Martin has the most quoted line of the movie--w/ his enhanced Southern Drawl>> "What we have here is....failure to communicate."
Love your content! And this is a great list, but if I’m not mistaken the kids in Don’t Breath knew the vet lived there, it’s the reason Money brought the gun. He said “what you think I’m going to come into an old vets house without it” and I’m totally paraphrasing but basically that.
Roger Ebert gave a very positive review of Jackie Chan's "Rumble in the Bronx" (1995). The movie was filmed in Vancouver, north of the border and a continent away. Mr. Ebert took special notice of the inexplicable mountain background, saying that New York City had never looked so good.
I’d say _Underwater_ is more like _Leviathan_ or _Deep Star Six_ than _The Posiedon Adventure_ . Even _The Abyss_ would be a better example. _The Meg 2_ is another “base on the sea floor” attacked by creature movie.
Killer Joe is a wild ride - saw it a few Months ago. Really enjoyed it!! Gina Gershon is excellent, all of her. A must see if you like whacked out movies👍😎!!
I wonder if you have ever watched "Looker (1981)"? I can't seem to find it anywhere even though I've been looking for a while as it is unexpectedly quite prophetic to our current AI issues. IIRC it's not a great movie, sort of a murder mystery, sci-fi (at that time anyway), corporate greed, and the literal human cost of AI. I'd be very happy if you are familiar and/or can find it and opine about it.
"Blow Up". M. Antonioni. Slow burn and great performances from David Hemmings and Vanessa Redgrave. Plus crazy club scene with the Yardbirds. I was so shocked to find it on Tubi. I've been watching you for years but the heavy slant towards action is getting old. But I'll still keep watching. I like your analyses.
You got the premise of "Don't Breathe" wrong. They knew that an old guy lived in the house. They broke in thinking he had a decent chunk of money in the house. I believe they knew he was blind and assumed he was feeble and an easy target...and they were very wrong...lol..the neighborhood was abandoned, not the house....
If you like full on Nic Cage, I strongly recommend The Unbearable Weight Of Massive Talent. (Don't recall seeing it on here. Sorry if I forgot or missed it.) One of the most meta movies ever, and huge fun. The brief Demi Moore cameo is the cherry on that batcrap crazy film. Striptease is really more dark comedy that is well worth the nod. They Live is a great film. Roddy should have been a much bigger Hollywood star. I'd put it in a double feature with The Hidden, directed by Jack Shoulder starring Kyle McLaughlin and Michael Nouri. That'd be a great idea for a video for you: recommend double and triple features of movies not directly connected. Maybe same star, same director. But moreso same thematically. A great third film in my example would be I Come In Peace aka Dark Angel. Dolph Lundgren and Brian Benben have great chemistry as mismatched partners.
I will never forget Rumble in the Bronx, the scene you showed where Chan jumps from one building to the scaffolding of another building. He actually had a broken foot while making that jump. They put a slip on cover painted like a shoe to film the scene.
I saw "Joe" knowing nothing about it. It is a absolute shock how very, very damn good it is. When Nick Cage puts his mind to it, the man can flat act. And come on man, "They Live" has SO much social commentary in it it's crazy, and would have been completely over the top except...well...it's a damn good movie. I need that shirt in my life, too.
Darren, 'Near Dark' was just added to TUBI, don't know how you missed that one, it hasn't been available anywhere but Shudder til now. Love your videos!
Wanted is a great movie. Also, thanks for the Underwater heads up. Just finished up with Hacksaw. That is an amazing story. This whole list is just great. I think I'll be checking it all out. Thanks!
My missus and I saw Keanu on our second date. We loved it, no one else saw it, so it kind of was our private thing. We still watch this one once a year.
Love FLick COnnection: I'm sure I could spend hours talking movies with Darren. I would argue though that Wanted is not in the fantasy genre: I'd call it more just a comic book action movie( as far as I know it is based on a comic book) THanks for another great video.
Forgot Mel Gibson directed Hacksaw Ridge, was actually a pretty good movie. Joe's one I haven't seen yet, keen to have a watch. Thanks for the recommendations.
I've heard that the fight sequence between Piper and David in They Live was the longest fist fight in any movie. (But Peter Griffin and that giant chicken do give them a run for their money in Family Guy).
A kickass and super underrated movie people might like is " Hardware" from 1990. It's a Dystopian Sci-fi thriller, easily one the best low budget sci-f I've ever seen, has some cool cameos but they're far from the highlight. I'm sure a lot of people will love it. You won't find it on Tubi, simply due it being so underrated, but it's out there.
Thanks DVD for making me realize I haven't watched "Smokin Aces". It's now on the list, my roommate and I are watching the Netflix Marvel shows (he never saw them, but I couldn't take Iron Fist S1 again, so we skipped him) and as soon as we finish "The Defenders" it's in line right after "Furiosa"...
Good idea for a video. The free stuff has a perfect price tag which Darren has already partially paid: he put in the time you'll have to by watching them first.
I love WANTED! One of my favorite action movies of the past 20 years Killer Joe is very good, made me like McConaughey. THEY LIVE is awesome. COOL HAND LUKE is iconic!
Not a fan (don’t dislike either) of Kristen Stewart or the whole Twilight thing but I find Underwater well done and very re-watchable. Love that it gets going right from the start and they do a decent job of filling in some of the gaps on the characters along the way. It’s not overly long either which I dig. No cheesy dialog and people act mostly professionally like you would expect from people doing that kind of work.
How could someone NOT like Cool Hand Luke!!! That's unAmerican!!! All your top 5 on this list are awesome and the rest are great too. I was surprised by Don't Breathe, I thought it would be lame but it was good
As for badass performances by A-list actors, McConaughey's scene in "The paperboy" is perhaps even more hardcore. As embarrassingly egoic as his book and those Lincoln commercials are, the man is not just a star but a legit artist.
From Nic Cage, I really loved both Renfield and Willy's Wonderland. Both loads of fun, and packed with fun action. Also interesting ones from him were Mandy and The Colour Out of Space. One that I'm not sure if it's underrated (it's largely forgotten, but those who remember it tend to love it), is Dredd with Karl Urban. Definitely badass. For those who like Viking stuff or Antonio Banderas, The 13th Warrior is a good tale, giving a fresh take on Beowulf. For fans of lighthearted medieval action comedy, A Knight's Tale with the late Heath Ledger is a good time. And for a bleaker, darker film, one forgotten gem is a post-apocalyptic sports movie starring Rutger Hauer called (depending on where) either The Blood of Heroes or The Salute of the Jugger.
No one will be disappointed by “Cool Hand Luke”. That movie is one of the all time greats. Anyone who has seen it will always stop while channel surfing if they hit “ Cool Hand Luke”!
Yeah, wanted did the hanging train thing way before Mr. Cruise in his latest mission impossible popcorn buster. In fact I’m pretty sure that cruise and his minions were hoping no one would remember WANTED

Cool Hand Luke all the way !
Great list with a few discoveries ahead...
Thanks Darren !
Paid advertising video?
Sorry but “Wanted” was the stupidest idea ever brought to film. A bullet cannot be made to curve horizontal plane except to curve downward. Only redeeming factor is Angelina Jolie.
Your thorough comment is criminally underrated. Kudos and thank you!
Cool Hand Luke is a classic. Nuff said.
For an underrated badass on Tubi, I’d recommend 52 Pick-Up to anyone who like crime movies. Considering its cast and its pedigree, it really is surprising how many people have never heard of it, let alone how few have actually seen it.
Thanks 😮
52 Pick-Up is freaking amazing! Based on one of Elmore Leonard's sleaziest novels, director John Frankenheimer did not spare the sleaze when filming.
Thx u. Just put that on my Friday night list
I’ve seen it and enjoy it…sport.

Not to mention William Freidkins "Sorcerer"...you get a chance see this iconic flick, came from a great book "The wages of fear"...It was a very underrated great.
Jade is terrible but To Live and Die and Sorcerer are excellent.
@Skoora Sorcerer will always be my favorite read the wages of fear great book.
Just watched Killer Joe yesterday, wow, hell of a ride. And believe me, I'm 63 and I have watched a LOT of movies in my life.
The baddest of this list!
Killer Joe is a wicked great movie! Eating chicken in it turns into a real horror show!😱
‘I think what we have here is a failure to communicate.’
Haven’t seen this movie in 20-30 years but will never forget THAT line. As a teen in the 60s, I certainly had communication issues. So, there’s that…….
I'm so glad you added Cool Hand Luke, my favorite movie, so many people have not seen it.
just saw it a while back on prime.
okay, the idea of an unrepentant rebel against a oppressive authority wasn't bad, but there was nothing more to it than that.
it's one of those things where they did a good job with it, but since then other films have taken the idea and done a better job.
Don't forget "Big Trouble in Little China" from John Carpenter, I loved that movie as a kid.
Yes!
"Big Trouble in Little China" is my favorite John Carpenter movie.
It's my favorite movie OF ALL TIME
“I have come here to chew bubble gum and kick ass. And I'm all out of bubble gum” - Love this Movie. Have not seen it in Years. Thx for the reminder👍😎!!
You should never feel you have to apologize for Cool Hand Luke!
unless you take a dvd of cool hand luke and use it as a throwing star to kill someone.
then, you apologize.
Perfection!
Strother is a badazz actor.

Yea VERY surprised it was review in the same vein as The Poseidon Adventure or Alien and not the Abyss.
" What we have here is a failure to communicate. "
Oh, I don't know... I thought Mr. Van Dam succeeded very nicely in communicating this wonderful list of films to us.
@davidanderson2357 David, that was a line from COOL HAND LUKE. Mr. Van Dam does an excellent job all the time to me. Have an outstanding day tomorrow.
I guess someone had to quote that line. A movie classic, watched many, many times.
Killer Joe is a wild ride - saw it a few Months ago. Really enjoyed it!! Gina Gershon is excellent, all of her. A must see if you like whacked out movies👍😎!!
I feel the same way about Cool Hand Luke. I absolutely love that movie.
Top 5 all time in my book.
I wonder if you have ever watched "Looker (1981)"? I can't seem to find it anywhere even though I've been looking for a while as it is unexpectedly quite prophetic to our current AI issues. An excellent FLICK CONNECTION Darren. Great to see Cool Hand Luke at #1. Many thanks for sharing with us. Much appreciated 👍👍👍
Cool hand Luke, one of the best movies anywhere
"Blow Up". M. Antonioni. Slow burn and great performances from David Hemmings and Vanessa Redgrave. Plus crazy club scene with the Yardbirds. I was so shocked to find it on Tubi.

He’s definitely had on other lists. And it is probably not on Tubi. Such a good movie though!
Another great list ma brotha!
I will never forget Rumble in the Bronx, the scene you showed where Chan jumps from one building to the scaffolding of another building. He actually had a broken foot while making that jump. They put a slip on cover painted like a shoe to film the scene.
Thank you for another great flick connection. I am so glad you included Smoking Aces. It is smoking hot.
What a fun-movie list, man! "Slither" is a modern classic, hahaha! "Underwater" is under-rated, we enjoyed it, saw it in theater.
This is a great list. Except for Don't breathe, haven't seen the others. Thanks for recommending.
Tons of great recommendations!!!!! Loved Wanted,They live and Smoking aces.
Underwater is often considered a Lovecraftian flick.
Yeah man. Saw it in theaters and really enjoyed it.
I found that it’s like a mix of Alien and Abyss in one and I quite enjoyed it
Totally. It’s almost obviously Cthulhu at the end.
Yeah the creatures definitely have that look/vibe.
I've probably watched Cool Hand Luke 20+ times. I love it, it's definitely in my top 20.
recommend: Fortress (1992) with Christopher Lambert
Who would be disappointed with Cool Hand Luke?! One of the best flicks of all time. Love what you’re doing, bro🤙
I think Underwater is Kristen Stewart's best performance ever. She really crushed that one. Plus I really enjoyed the movie.
You'd like her performance in the very strange thriller" personal shopper".
Thanks! I'm a Tubi guy ... please more.
Really appreciate your videos, it’s a godsend
I saw "Joe" knowing nothing about it. It is a absolute shock how very, very damn good it is. When Nick Cage puts his mind to it, the man can flat act. Underwater is a kickass great movie- excellent acting, excellent effects, killer soundtrack.
10:00 one of my favorite James Gunn's movies that gets overlooked is The Belko Experiment. He wrote the screenplay but didn't direct it.
Darren, 'Near Dark' was just added to TUBI, don't know how you missed that one, it hasn't been available anywhere but Shudder til now. Love your videos!
What?? You typically can't find it anywhere
The opening credits, barely two minutes, with the bleak landscape and setting sun-- and Tangerine Dream-- are memorable.
I remember every second of the 1st time I watched Cool Hand Luke.
Cool Hand Luke and They Live. You got a new subscriber. Great list.
Love FLick COnnection: I'm sure I could spend hours talking movies with Darren. I would argue though that Wanted is not in the fantasy genre: I'd call it more just a comic book action movie( as far as I know it is based on a comic book) THanks for another great video.
If anyone tells you they don't understand why Cool Hand Luke is your #1, just tell 'em: what we have here is failure to communicate...
Forgot Mel Gibson directed Hacksaw Ridge, was actually a pretty good movie. Joe's one I haven't seen yet, keen to have a watch. Thanks for the recommendations.
14:40 they parodied that fight scene in Adventure Time too. Keith David and Roddy Rowdy Piper even voiced the characters who were fighting.
I've heard that the fight sequence between Piper and David in They Live was the longest fist fight in any movie. (But Peter Griffin and that giant chicken do give them a run for their money in Family Guy).
In the time where streaming platforms wheren't avaliable , Wanted was one of my fav movies for a long time😍
Great list and one Rowdy Roddy t-shirt sold!
Thanks for the Tubi recommendations.
Great list. Haven't even heard of some of them. Thanks.
Great job as usual, fair play to you!!
Killer Joe - Great recommendation! Thanks Van Dam
I was suprised at how good Smokin Aces is. It is definetly in my top 10 favorite movies!
☆ Thank you for the great recommendation s on the movies pics ☆
I love WANTED! One of my favorite action movies of the past 20 years
Killer Joe is very good, made me like McConaughey.
THEY LIVE is awesome.
COOL HAND LUKE is iconic!
Those are ten beyond badass movies indeed!!
I love the shirt!
This looks like a great list. I’d probably watch every movie he talked about. Great job DVD
Another good list.
A lot of good flicks on your list. Gotta agree about Cool Hand Luke. It's just a classic.
Hey, that FUM product looks like a great ide, it would have been great back when I gave up smoking, excellent.
Regarding Cool Hand Luke, it also features one of the greatest car washes on film.
I very much enjoyed They Live and got the Shout version of the Blu Ray, but I would personally put Big Trouble in Little China higher than that.
I have come to watch movies and kick ass. And I just discovered Tubi. Could you pass the popcorn?
Cool hand Luke! 💯
Love your videos buddy. Love from India 🇮🇳
Haha haha funny. I had my Watch TV t shirt on today. Oh and I have your T shirt as well. I've received several comments on it.
Love your transition into sitting down. Visually different.
Lowlifes is a new Tubi original horror movie that would definitely fit this video. Lots of twists and turns, much better than I expected.
Yeah,, Paul Newman's "Cool Hand Luke" is most definitely worthy of a #1 spot on any given "badass movie" list!! 👍
Promising an eleventh entry on a top-ten list got me thinking of Spinal Tap. That's not commonly thought of as bad-a$$, though. 🤗
There's a fine line between 'bad ass' and 'dumb ass', and I think they crossed it.
What’s the list of films in the description for?
Love your love for CHL. Thanks.
Slither,one of my favorites!
What a stacked list. Even the honorable mentions (minus Keanu)
Love all your videos bro it is much appreciated 🤙🤙 I've never commented on your videos so wanted to pop in
Gotta watch “Underwater” on a big screen. In the dark. Alone.
So loved "They Live"
How could someone NOT like Cool Hand Luke!!! That's unAmerican!!! All your top 5 on this list are awesome and the rest are great too. I was surprised by Don't Breathe, I thought it would be lame but it was good
They live, is one of my faves. 😎
A couple ive actually not seen. A couple I've forgotten. And a couple i just want to rewatch.
👍♥️✌️
Cool Hand Luke is an all time freaking classic
Underwater
Don't Breathe
Killer Joe
Slither
Solid choices and all a lot of fun!
But...
Smokin' Aces (is freakin' amazing - Kicks A$$) 😎🤘
Joe (2013) is listed as 2014 in some places. Thanks for the list!
Killer Joe, just nuts. DVD is on point AGAIN!
As for badass performances by A-list actors, McConaughey's scene in "The paperboy" is perhaps even more hardcore. As embarrassingly egoic as his book and those Lincoln commercials are, the man is not just a star but a legit artist.
He has a few good movies.

The chapter titles that are coming up are hilarious!!! Gotta see Fried Chicken Freakshow and Slugs from Space😂😂
