Dolemite is so VERY good. If you've not seen it, well, you really have to. I remember when the original Dolemite movies came out and this is the behind-the-scenes of how that happened and the impact it had. But Mank... it had a lot to live up to as it's about the screen writer for Citizen Cane but it delivers very well, and is extremely interesting if you're a fan of CK. And you've really made me want to watch ICARUS. And Veteran. Thanks again for all you do. But it's a cool job, making a living watching movies, you gotta admit ;-)
Nightcrawler is one of the most underrated and overlooked movies of the 2010s. Completely snubbed at the Oscar's and easily Gyllenhaals best performance along with Riz Ahmed
Darron, thank you for the fantastic lists that you do. The Picks are always good and your description is spot on, I work hard and love to watch a good movie a few nights a week (if possible) for my downtime. There is nothing worse then wasting my time with a movie that is just that, a waste of time. You never guide us wrong and I am so grateful for that! 👍
Finally, Mank makes the list. If you haven’t seen MANK, do. I LOVED everything about this movie. I watched Mank; then I watched Citizen Kane; then RKO 281. All are so interesting and well worth the marathon.
@@smartymcfly3957 nah man. It ain't white boy day. Patricia Arquette killed it and deserved an academy award for that film, imo. Cristian Slater crushed that roll too. Clarence Worley.
Wife and I watched Elvis. Heart breaking and I never really had much of an opinion of the lad. We then watched the Kurt Russell TV movie 🤭 Putting on Moonstruck with Bruce Campbell and Chekov. All recommendations. Now on to this list. BRB...... Cracking list as always. Some new and some to rewatch. Sending love to you Daz and all you subscribers around the world from little old me in England 🥰😘🤗 Good watching the entertainment you choose !
The way they shot the Kurt Russell movie, he looked just like Elvis. I haven't seen it in 20 years but, man it left an impression. At the time I remember thinking (and I'd seen Kurt plenty) how much he resembled Elvis and how I'd have never have connected those particular dots. 🎬
Michael Clayton! Enough say!!! Everyone gives amazing performances and Clooney plays it with a soft nuance performance that totally is edge of your seat and when he’s in the screen you’re totally glued to his every word!!! Highly underrated!
I agree about Dolomite. It’s surprisingly good, and has so much heart and passion. The actors clearly loved working on that movie and it shows in their performances.
Great list 👏👏 Saw all these - stuck around to get your take on “Dolemite…” agreed, really good film - waaaaaay exceeded my expectations - thanks for sharing!
I've seen 17 out of the 20 and I'm always looking for more. I would like to suggest making a 10 best list of mini series on Netflix. I just finished The Sandman and I was pleasantly surprised at how good it was.
I’m gonna go out on a limb here and say you’re top 10 on this list is the greatest top-10 non-genre-specific movies list ever posted by anyone on UA-cam
I really appreciate you man. I watch every video and there is always 1 or 2 movies where I a like damn, I don't know that one or I know it but never seen it or completely forgotten it. U save me so much time!! 😆
Yeah, Flight is another good one. Actually Denzel is consistently making good movies that earn their movie ticket. To be honest, all these movies are good for educated middle-class adults.
There are some great films on this list. It reminded me of some of my favorite films, not sure if they are on Netflix.. but Kalifornia, True Romance, Heat, Ronin, and Rounders..
I know this wouldn’t qualify for this list, but please tell me you’ve seen Carter, and are going to comment on it soon. Way too much camera movement at moments, and CGI fails, but still - was the most non-stop action I’ve ever seen, and often with an Equilibrium-esque Gun-kata style. It was exhausting but well worth a watch
Michael Clayton. I love that film. Damn. Great start and wonderful ensemble cast!! (Also a young Merritt Weaver as the young woman Tom Wilkinson's character befriends) Nightcrawler - Jake at his best and Riz Ahmed underrated in this one. Mank - more people need to watch this. Gary Oldman and Amanda Seyfried really remarkable work. The Nice Guys - Shane Black's best stuff since Kiss Kiss Bang Bang, love both of 'em Always got to go with Kubrick when available. I need to revisit The Town. Heat is fantastic. One of my favorite heist films is John Huston's The Asphalt Jungle. Deliverance is in my top 25 favorite films all time. Taxi Driver is my #2 favorite film. The Departed is in my top 5 favorite Scorsese films. I love Se7en, but I think Zodiac is Fincher's best film. Apocalypse Now is in my top 20 favorite films (and as far as FFC, The Conversation is my top 10) I know what you are saying about the French plantation sequence, it does take you out of the Heart of Darkness boat ride from hell, but I dig the historical perspective that sequences gives you. Darren, if you dig South Korean crime dramas, I highly recommend the K drama Beyond Evil, which should be still available on Netflix.
Hey, Darren. Great video, as always. Earlier in your presentation, you mentioned Rebecca Hall (who I'm a big fan of), and you brought to mind a movie I just watched called Resurrection. Awesome flick. I like dark, mind-bending movies to begin with, so this was right up my alley. I was nevertheless impressed with how layered and profound the real message of the film was (or at least my interpretation of the message). In any case, I was completely enthralled throughout the film, and it definitely had a unique and gripping storyline. This list you presented, by the way, prompts me to rewatch Apocalypse Now. I could never get into it on past viewings, but there has to be something more to the movie that I must have missed, given its acclaim. Thanks for the suggestions, brother. Be well.
I had to watch "A Perfect Storm" today as I got all nastoligic for Mr. Clooney. Now I'll watch "Michael Clayton" to round off the night's movie watching. Thanks for the reminder...
Thank you, Darren, for explaining to me exactly why I love NBK so much. :-) The Tarantino connection explains a LOT. I haven't watched this flick in decades. I think it's time to revisit it.
Best dialog ever between buddies in a movie: “I need your help. I can’t tell you what it is, you can never ask me about it later, and we’re gonna hurt some people.” “Who’s car are we gonna take?”
Top notch list. Brilliant performances. "Leon the Professional" was a pleasant surprise from the "Blockbuster Rental Roulette " winners back in the day. Going to watch "Veteran" Thanks always.

Apologies for commenting on one of your older videos, but I've only recently discovered your great channel. Just wanted to mention a french film from 1955 that if you haven't seen as a heist film fan, you absolutely must see. Rififi by director Jules Dassin. You won't be disappointed.
Hey Mr VanDam.. I think youre off on the best heist movie.. Yeah TheTown is very good but Im gonna have to say the best heist movie is Kelly's Heroes 😁👍
And they should had made a sequel with her 10 years later to take out the people those dirty cops were working for. Some thing like that movie Columbiana with Zoe Saldana, Natalie Portman could do.
Good list with some absolute classics - but you need to qualify that your lists are about Netflix USA - most of the films on this list are NOT available in the UK or Europe at the moment.
