The official name was Inspection Cars. The company was Fairmont Railway Motors, manufactured in Fairmont, Mn. The Hy-Rail units on the pickups were made by the same company. The Hy-Rail has been offered since the 1960's. They were also installed on 4 door sedans and station wagons along with trucks of various sizes. The last 4 door cars with Hy-Rails were an American Motors Matadors in 1975. On the Inspection Cars the original engines were the Fairmont engines, newer ones used Onan Engines, or for greater horsepower the Kohler 4-cylinder engines were used. The Hy=Rails were offered to be installed from 3/4 ton pickups (Model 0307) up to 15-ton Ford F750 or Chevy 7500's. Repair Trucks. They also manufactured Gang Cars, to haul work crews to a site. A4's equipped with English Ford 4-cylinder engines, or A6's and A8's with American Ford Inline 6-cylinder Engines. The very first Inspection Car built by "The Motors" was in 1903, when they married a Fairmont stationary single cylinder engine, used in rural areas and on farms to power many different pieces of equipment, to a 4-man Hand Pump Cart. Fairmont Railway Motors also produced a complete line of Maintenance of Way Equipment. They were bought out by Harsco Corp in 1980, and the entire operation was moved to Columbus, S.C. in the late 1990's, and merged with 2 other Maintenance of Way Equipment manufactures that Harsco purchased' Now known as Harsco Track Technologies. I worked at The Motors" in the 1970's and 80's, in the Service Division manning the "Red Phone". When it rang, that meant someone somewhere needed a repair part yesterday. It's great to see people who really love the older equipment and spend the time, money and effort to keep them on the rails.
How nice of Hank to share this experience with you ..a different kind of adventure for sure and what a wonderful way to see the countryside ... loved the river , the rockcut "canyon", the doe & fawn , the awesome power plant , and especially the little blue caboose.....guess I enjoyed it all ! Thanks for including us in the fun !

Boy, I never would have thought that was the way to turn them around, I learn something every day! Beautiful scenery, very enjoyable ride, I will watch this one every once in a while. I'm 78 and had a stroke (brain aneurism) so it will be new to me in a month or so. Thanks for taking us along.
I remember these speeders on the PGE (Pacific Great Eastern) railway in British Columbia, in the late 50's. I recall one night my mom took my sister and I to pick up my dad at the train station (he was returning home from Vancouver). We waited and waited, then finally saw the headlight of the train approaching and got out of the car to meet it. But...that headlight belonged to a little yellow putt-putt, so we had to go back and wait some more.
Thanks for taking us on the ride with you, JP! Beautiful scenery! The Erie Lackawanna and the New Haven locomotives are currently in service delivering freight railcars to businesses along the Stourbridge Line, they interchange with the Delaware Lackawanna railroad along the Delaware River!
Having worked on a Railway [as a trackman] and traveled the rails in all sorts of weird and whacky looking contraptions I must admit that I wish I owned one of these ... and 30 - 100km of disused / abandoned railway line. Not sure I would opt for the open air version if I could only have one ... and I would probably want a flat bed trailer to tow behind it to carry my shopping etc. Yeah ... dream on, right ! hehe thanks for sharing ...
Hi JP 🖐🏼. THAT looks like A lot of fun. I would have loved to Ride along on the rails. They seem to be going pretty fast ‼️😃🖐️👍 😃 HAVE A Awesome Amazing Beautiful weekend ‼️.

I never seen a speeder before and looks great fun riding the railway lines and lots to see. Also I thought it was good group people meeting up with there speeders and I enjoyed watching.

Never in my life seen anything like those little cars how neat. How do those cars turn around to get back where they started? Its a awesome ride, I would do that in a heart beat no questions asked. I just saw how they got turned around, really something, my eyes bulged out off my head. That is an experience of life time, that looks so much fun. Most fun ever!!! I think you had a permanent grin for most of the video, I know I did! We have a museum of Transportation near St.Louis that I've been going to since I was a child , love the railroad !
Absolutely awesome video, and yes I would love the opportunity or riding any one of the rail cars. I also want to say thank you to Hank for reaching out to you and to you for making this video.

Great channel, also this channel brings me back in time in the 1960s when I was a kid traveling by train was the way to go before buses took over mostly everything
For those wondering, at the end of the video, Jay's closing comments were done right about here 41°34'22.12" N 75°15'23.37" W - Google Earth's imagery date was 10/9/2016, so it appears that those passenger cars and snowplow haven't moved in a while. That power station (41°28'02.58" N 75°07'53.65" W) was pretty cool, especially since there's a big pipe that goes from that water tank to Lake Wallenpaupack. Fond memories of that lake, that's all I can say - lol. Thanks, Jay - another great video :)

Hi sir great video ,about the blue f unit number 1304 it is a old unit used in Montreal commuter own by the city of Montreal and operated by CP engineer, on vaudreuil sub.keep the good work, from a new subscriber in montreal and a rail fan.
I've actually went adventuring at this one place. It's called France Park and it used to be a Italian community and an old quarry. It's now a campground has a ton of trails around both
That was super awesome! You looked like you were having so much fun and what a wonderful experience for you! Great scenery! Beautiful seeing the mama deer and baby too! Glad it didn't rain on you! Cool video! Thank you JP!
Excellent! Honesdale is my wife's hometown so I have been on the train ride, a beautiful way to see the local scenery. This ride on a speeder is a different experence! Honesdale is the birthplace of the American railroad, where the Stourbridge Lion steam locomotive made the first run in 1829! Visit the museum on Main street in downtown and see a full scale replica of the engine plus learn the history. Thanks for a great video.
Wow...... amazing....That was something how they lifted up and rotated them to turn around. You were lucky to have a subscriber that invite you along 👍
That's so cool. You get a view that people don't normally get to see. The engineers perspective. I wish l could buy that blue caboose and make a guest house out of it.
Jay that was awesome. I can definitely see you buying one of those and join that group. Beautiful scenery and the people fishing in the river was cool. Get one Jay you deserve it. 👍👊🚂
If given the opportunity, would you take a ride or even own one of your own?

I would love this even more than (gasp!) riding a rollercoaster....this is one of those videos where I just can't stop smiling the whole way through. What a magical experience! Oh man! JP, so happy you got to do this! 😆 and I'm so happy you could share with us. I saw a bunch these speeders one time when I was in western Montana. ..wasn't sure what they were, but I knew I wanted to ride one.
It's such a fun and unique experience. Would love to own one and offer rides to my friends.
@@JPVideos81 time to start a go fund me 😉😁
That was a great opportunity to do something not many people get to do. I'm so glad I was able to ride along with you!
Thanks james. I was smiling the entire time.
My brother has a Fairmont speeder..it's so much fun!!

I agree
This is what I call entertainment
👍
I've actually went adventuring at this one place. It's called France Park and it used to be a Italian community and an old quarry. It's now a campground has a ton of trails around both
Glad I came across this video! Excellent video you are in good hand with Al .
Oh! I would love to do that! That looks like a blast! Thank's for sharing JP!
Such a fun experience
That was super awesome! You looked like you were having so much fun and what a wonderful experience for you! Great scenery! Beautiful seeing the mama deer and baby too! Glad it didn't rain on you! Cool video! Thank you JP!
Was an amazing and memorable experience.
Thanks for watching
Oh WOW was that ever a fun ride!!!! Thanks JP! You're just filled with surprises! Live railroad videos!
🤗💙
Wow...... amazing....That was something how they lifted up and rotated them to turn around. You were lucky to have a subscriber that invite you along 👍
Lucky doesn't explain it.
That's so cool. You get a view that people don't normally get to see. The engineers perspective. I wish l could buy that blue caboose and make a guest house out of it.
That conrail caboose was a suprising find.
Jay that was awesome. I can definitely see you buying one of those and join that group. Beautiful scenery and the people fishing in the river was cool. Get one Jay you deserve it. 👍👊🚂
Thanks David 👍
This is a fantastic video! A ride on one would be a dream come true!
