      Thank you. The solar sales process can become extremely "salesy", with companies selling the investment aspect, and never mentioning the technology involved. My hope with these videos is to provide that information, so people can make an educated decision on which equipment to purchase, when they do choose to go solar.

    Well done! You present many of the leading options, you evaluate them against several leading decision criteria, and then you provide a logical and unbiased analysis of each alternative in line with each attribute. I spent my career advising top global CFOs on multi-criteria decisions for major capital investment decisions, and in my opinion you exhibit some of the best leading edge practices in decision making. And you applied that towards decisions that will help us sustain and improve the environment. Thank you!

      Thank you Chuck! Really appreciate that comment. Just trying to put out valuable content, so people can be better informed when making a buying decision. Unfortunately, this industry is filled with sales people who are trying to sell the “monthly savings” aspect of a Solar Loan vs. a utility bill, and all I hope to do with these videos is provide practical information regarding what people are investing into, when they buy a battery/solar system.

      @@jackthesolarguy I’m curious about your thoughts on integrating the various recommendations. For instance, I live in Vermont where there are cold and snowy winters, and so the Aptos solar panels are a good fit. The Enphase micro inverters seem compelling. And the Franklin batteries are appealing. Do they all fit together easily?

There is not currently a manufacture that produces all three components of a system (Panels, Inverters, Batteries) under one brand, so in all circumstances, you will be mix and matching from different manufactures. Good job doing your research and finding a top tier trifecta!

    A little late to the comments here, but I had a couple comments/questions: 1.) it seems (unless I missed one) that these are all AC coupled. Is there a scenario where one might prefer DC coupled? 2.) Any comparisons on other performance characteristics, e.g. temperature? I had a solar salesperson warn me about poor performance in 100+ degree desert heat. Maybe an idea for your next video? :)

    • @jackthesolarguy
      @jackthesolarguy  Рік тому +1

      Great questions. We always prefer to put batteries in the garage, or in the basement, to mitigate heat effects. I tried to hit the major performance characteristics, and most other metrics are likely less important. AC coupled systems are much easier to install, which is one of the reasons most batteries are AC coupled, and additionally, being AC coupled, it allows for the battery to charge from both the panels and grid. DC coupled battery will be slightly more efficient. Jack

      @@jackthesolarguy Thanks! Yeah I suppose I haven't really measured the temp in the garage; just knew that it was "hot" in the summer. In other videos, you talk about the importance of selecting and knowing your installer. You call out specifically working to evaluate the likelihood that the installer will be there for warranty services years down the line. In this video, you don't mention the importance of assuring the battery manufacturer will, likewise, be there. Why?
    I think the differences between some of the manufacturers you listed in this video are significant. At least, a well-established publicly traded company with strong (largely public) financials, strong commitments to customer service, and separate insurance underwriting their battery warranty is a lot different than a very small privately held start-up with unknown financials, no formal customer service commitments, and no separate warranty underwriting.
    IMO there's a LOT more to discuss/highlight related to battery warranties than years alone. For example, remedies. There's a BIG difference across the different manufacturers you've chosen in this video. Why didn't mention anything related to warranty remedies? There's a significant difference between a warranty that obligates the manufacturer to repair or replace a battery and one which allows the manufacturer to simply provide a prorated refund at their sole discretion. I mean, if, worst case, I had to rely on my battery warranty I'd rather, and imagine most folks would also, have my warranty provide for a fully functional battery 9 years in version some measly refund of perhaps

    • @jackthesolarguy
      @jackthesolarguy  Рік тому

      Correct. Installation companies will service warranties on behalf of the manufacturer, which is why that was important to note. Manufactures do not have individual maintenance teams, which is why installation companies offer the service of servicing product warranties

    • @ThomMurphy
      @ThomMurphy Рік тому

      @Solar Pros OK. That didn't answer my questions or address any of my points, but it's still worth noting. Just as it is probably worth noting that the chances of finding an installation company to repair or replace a battery at their sole expense (without a manufacturer's financial support) are near zero, even if they're highly reputable and did the original installation. Meaning all the points I raised are valid regardless of the installer, and MUCH more should be considered when looking at a manufacturer's warranty beyond simply "this one has the longest standard warranty, so it must be the best", or something similar.
      Promoting that sort of thinking only encourages manufacturers to put longer but much more restrictive warranties in place while simultaneously devaluing their warranty remedies. That may be more profitable for them but is ultimately a disservice to the end users. Again, please don't contribute to that.

    - if you have micro inverters on the ground-mounted panels, a short distance from the house, do you need AC side batteries downstream of those inverters?
