For the vertical run from the roof, I routed the conduit against the downspout. I routed the conduit horizontally between the bottom edge of the siding and the concrete foundation. I spray painted the conduit to closely match the siding; very unobtrusive method to aesthetically blend the build into the existing structure.

Saddest thing I saw was when new neighbors moved in and had panels installed. Their house faces south, as does mine. They did not have any of them installed on the south side, instead only on the northwest side. :-(

I don't know why every one is doing the "Sky is falling" panic about solar in California. Sure, NEM 1.0 and 2.0 were great programs, but they couldn't last forever. I missed out on it and wound up with SPB (Solar Power Billing) or NEM 3.0 The real beauty is that I live in the Mojave Desert and enjoy about 330 days of sunshine a year. During the day I generate enough electricity to power my house and charge my Tesla Powerwall 3.0 and at night my battery powers the house. I am 100% self powered daily. Even better is that in the event of a power outage, my battery supplies power to a "Critical Loads" panel keeping the lights on, the WiFi going and the fridge running. I can almost give the grid my middle finger because I almost don't need it. I do get some credit for the extra power I generate but I almost don't need it. In some ways I like the idea of being 100% self powered much better than playing the NEM game with the utility. With the price of batteries going down more people should go this route. The end of NEM 1.0 and 2.0'did not kill solar in California, I believe over-,saturation killed it. For the last several years, all new homes were required to include solar. This only leaves existing homes to market solar to. And there has been an aggressive push in solar for many years. Sooner or later that well is going to run dry, we might be getting there. And, not everyone can afford it, and not all homes are a good candidate for solar.

If PG&E is connected to the system you lose! Solar generators is the way to go! Bluetti makes an excellent systems. My last PG&E bill was $35.00.

Sodium-ion starter batteries are available on Amazon, but 3x the price of LFP. Most of them are for motorcycles, but there’s a 50ah & a 100ah too for cars. Great that there’s no lithium, but LFP is the way to go for now. NMC has been obsolete since 2017, yet 100% of battery naysayers are still talking about leadacid…..

Installers are still robbing people blind with quotes of 20-50k for installs. Based on the numbers he gave, 3 guys for 2 days should cost under 5k labor. Whole systems should be around 10-12k installed.

Politicians really want you forget that this is capitalism working properly. If this wasn't a capitalist society, what incentive would there be to make the installation easier? It does cut down jobs, but it allows products to be more affordable for the common man. Everybody focuses on the few major flaws of capitalism and forgets that the vast majority of the time, it really does work just fine.

Your experience does not match my experience. SE failures have been as low as Enphase. The key is proper installation and system sizing which many installers ignore to try and save money. Like others have said, SE has panel level monitoring so point number two is n/a. Enphase also has a single point of failure - the IQ combiner. And I have seen these go out, multiple times! The thing you’ll realize is that enphase has not been as time tested as SE. now, a few years into solar and enphase becoming popular, we’re seeing these failures.

Sounds like a lot of bullshit...I will never get solar. We get about 5 guys a week wanting to install solar. I had to become an asshole to them.

You would think all the 3rd party installers would pass on these costs savings to the consumer right? But hell NO. These greedy guys have in fact jacked up the price by $5000 to install the powerwall 3's!

it depends on where you live. Installation time for batteries is here short, within a month or the installer gets no contracts. The whole installations here are prepared for hybrid use first. Makes no sense. Here the kWh price is about 130€ or 140$ for 14 kWh kit. Those are kits , just 1 hour to get the cells into the case and connect the harnesses and batteries. If you buy those ready to use then the price is about 3 times of that . 14 kWh below 2000€ or between 6000€ to 8000€ for Huawei storages. Tesla does not sell well here. Too expensive , too exotic unless you own a tesla car too.

They are not 40%, i bought my lifepo4 packs in 2019 and they are roughly the same price today....so..get your facts straight.

I would hope that the panels are better when the sun is not directly over the panels. After all, the pitch and positioning of roofs are not always great. Also, how well, do they handle partial shade. (see a neighbor have panels (string inverter) near partial shade due to chimney and roof design.

Time to clean my panels again. That was one of the things that I should have considered at the start. But, considering that I need to do some roof repair due to winddamage, then it may be great timing anyways.

the tesla Powerwall 3 is an EPS (Emergency Power System) system. this means when it switched from battery to grid or vise-versa there is a short millisecond drop of power. this can upset computers and other electronic devices. is there a way to turn the Powerwall 3 into a UPS (Uninterruptable Power Supply) and eliminate this drop of power?

Guy is talking about batteries and said that lithium iron batteries are more powerful than lithium phosphate. Intro to batteries 101 states otherwise.

Great that Tesla doubled the power output; a likely cheaper option would have been to include a soft starter with the unit to be installed on the A/C. Or at least include educational material about doing so.

It will go down even further. Look at Ecoflow. That a have a TON of options even within the same capacity. It's oversaturated. Also, a diff topic but the portable power station category is giving competition to fixed home battery systems. Costco right now has a 18kwh system for 8,000. I do believe that holding out will be the wise choice as I think the market is very saturated with offerings.

Remember to add into your costs "delivery" - you still have to pay your electric company for that which solar sales agents always fail to mention

While I am late to the party, the EP Cube does have a DIY option where you can go through a training to set it up yourself like a contractor would. Though the EP cube does have a range, which is 10 KW to 20KW and ranges from 3 battery modules and 6 per stack. The battery units top is the PV and battery inverter. You can have multiple stacks to increase PV power, battery capacity, and power output.

There is no over supply yet, it is just suppy increase push the price down, is supply to demand relationship.
