    I like Tesla as a company and I ordered three cyber trucks. However, the solar products are not the cheapest. I am going with an EG4 system. The wall mount battery is 14.3 KWH and cost $3,300, or $231/kWh, roughly half of the Tesla power wall. Continuous output of 200 amps per battery bank. Since I'm building completely off grid, I gain no advantage with Tesla systems. Energy arbitrage will not apply to me nor do I really want them adding cycles to my home storage. 20.7 kW of panels, three battery banks and three inverters for a continuous output of 18 kW, bi-directional charging of course limited to the vehicle, not the system and I'm installing it myself for the most part keeping the cost under 30k. Try to beat that lol. My system is coming from signature solar by the way if you want to check my prices.

    Great that Tesla doubled the power output; a likely cheaper option would have been to include a soft starter with the unit to be installed on the A/C. Or at least include educational material about doing so.

    Thanks for the video. Yes, I think it will shake up the market a bit and is definitely something to consider for new solar customers. My main concern is that everything is combined in 1, inverter, battery, etc. It means a very significant point of failure. The question comes back to how quickly will Tesla respond to a service/warranty issue, as well as how reliable the system is. I have heard customer service has been pretty poor in some parts although in general the other tesla products(Powerwall2) have been fairly reliable. Saying that, this is a newer product and we may not know until a few years down the track how this will perform. It also makes me think of those combined TV and DVD units, they didn't age well. Will be curious to see how the early adopters fair.

      You are correct... combining the multiple components all into one hub creates a large risk for a central point of failure. As a reminder, Tesla does not have internal install crews, so all of the servicing falls on their subcontracting partners or the installs who sell them...

      I've already heard of a couple of homeowners having failures with very poor response from Tesla and their system has been down for weeks and weeks.

      Yeah, that is a major concern. I know some installers are installing a separate string inverter when they installer a powerwall 3

    1. LRA.... is it 185 or 150? Or are there different versions? I hear many say that PW3 only accepts DC, but other say it now accepts the AC from micro inverters.
    2. Picking up 9 Powerwalls tomorrow and parking in my drive way. Thats the Cybertruck. 123 KW hr, not 100. With 3V gateway and UWC, it is functional NOW. The wait is for Powershare to be compatible with ANY gateway and ANY version if PowerWall. Tesla is saying later this year, not 2025.
    3. Would be nice to memtion that Tesla is soon to come iut with a dumb PW3 that is just storage. Not sure when, but guessing it will be way cheaper. I'm getting only one PW3. Adding a dumb PW3 later maybe.
    4. Tesla does not farm out PW3 install. I wanted to start a conversation with Teala direct, so I made an online order for full Solar + PW3. That got farmed out. Tesla doesnt do much Solar it seems. So I made another order for just PW3......BAM, new project is run by Tesla directly.
    5. PowerShare equipment (included with Foundation Series Cybertruck) installation is farmed out. Most get quotes around 3K. Will probably do that, and then go back to Tesla regarding PW3 installation which should be way cheaper with an existing 3V gateway.
    6. As a soon-to-be cyber truck owner. My situation is way different than most of your customers who want to add a battery to an existing solar system. My rationale is to add a battery to my power share and have the capability to easily add solar in the future. I agree with your comment that DC coupling keeps things way simpler and more affordable.

    Went to sig solar saw a 18kw inverter and 20kw of battery for $9000 usd, as for charging from EV a well know company is working on one that anyone can use that feeds to gen or grid port. If it is a grid down situation, you only get to do it 1 time, get a propane gen with a 400g tank, charge 20kw a day for over a month.

    Vehicle to home is not difficult. Nissan LEAF has been able to do it forever. Even Ford managed it. But Ford and Nissan don't sell home batteries. If Tesla were to implement vehicle-to-home, then the demand for Tesla batteries would decline. After all, why would you buy a 13.5 kWh battery for your garage wall when you already have a 70kWh battery next to your garage wall?

      You still need a power management system and buffer so you will still need one powerwall. The cyber truck power share is a niche product and most people will want their home to have a backup even when they are not home. Like yourself I think V2h is long over due. I just hope it's backwards compatible.

      ….. because if the EV battery is NMC or NCA, like every EV battery in North America to date, it would not be economical to cycle that battery for home use.

    i received identical quotes for enphase5p (2 units) or tesla powerwall 3 retrofit battery install - 12k. with pw3 - i get 3.5 additional kwh. no brainer here.
    and for franklin whole home - 14-15k. I am not clear on your point on choosing enphase or franklin for retrofit battery install ?

      Franklin & Enphase are AC coupled batteries and are proven to work with other inverter ecosystems which is why I prefer them for retrofit.

    the tesla Powerwall 3 is an EPS (Emergency Power System) system. this means when it switched from battery to grid or vise-versa there is a short millisecond drop of power. this can upset computers and other electronic devices. is there a way to turn the Powerwall 3 into a UPS (Uninterruptable Power Supply) and eliminate this drop of power?

      i think you could consider putting those devices on a "solar generator" that has no drop as a ups backup. its an extra cost but it gives you double redundancy as far as if the power drops and the wall delays or even malfunctions you would still be up and for some time depending on the size of the "solar generator". i have used small Bluetti solar generators personally as ups's for computers and they work, eco flow did not when i tried it so make sure you get the right product if you go that route.

    Getting two PW3s installed and mated to my Enphase IQ8A Inverters. Shocked to learn l will get $300 per kW as a CASH REBATE directly from my utility (AMEREN IP) on top of the 30% tax credit. Reducing my total cost to LESS THAN $20K maybe closer to $19K. So pumped,

    The Tesla power wall is the best battery ever made because people have been absolutely brainwashed by marketing hype! Beyond that it is just another battery and there are many other manufacturers that are doing it as good and even better.

      No need for an AC inverter if the house is DC coupled, however, I am not familiar with the market in Thailand.

    I wonder how or if Enphase's next-generation IQ battery will compete? Enphase is supposed to launch in late 2024. LFP loses 1% of its charge over night. Is the 3-5% DC advantage over an AC coupled battery much of a factor in the real world use case? Must say the bidirectional capabiltiy is ahead of all the competition's options.
    TSLA can start a large AC unit but it will drain the battery in 2 hours. Not likely anyone will run the AC in a grid down situation with a single battery.

      DC-coupled batteries certainly provide the benefit of higher round trip efficiency, however, the average consumer is unaware of that, and is more attracted to the lower cost aspect of DC coupling. Most people I speak to want the Enphase Microinverters and are willing to sacrifice a small amount of lost power to have a system without a single point of failure. Regarding bidirectional capability, Enphase has been working on a bidirectional charger product for a while, it is just a matter of when they launch it and which cars will provide the chargers the ability to backfeed.

      The Tesla Powerwall 3 can be compatible with a whole home backup generator if installed with a transfer switch or a Manual Transfer Switch.

      right now - A generator would output AC current and the powerwall 3 only accepts DC input. Tesla says they are going to make changes to the powerwall 3 so it could be used with existing systems that have microinverters (changes DC solar panel output to AC) but I'll believe it when I see it.

    My understanding is that when installing more than a single Tesla Powerwall 3, the battery and panel collar slim install setup is no longer possible. Instead, we will still need to install the batteries, along with a Tesla Gateway, as well as a Critical Load Center sub-panel (for backup). Is that not the case?
    Also, why is it that Tesla never publisized that the Powerwall 3 chemistry is LFP?
    Based on the fact that it is more than 100 lbs lighter and small in dimension compared to the FranklinWH LFP based battery, and still has built-in inverter(s) in it, how is it possible that it is LFP based and not still NMC or some other non-Iron based chemistry?

      I'm getting two Powerwall 3s installed with my existing panels. Using the backup switch and removing all my old inverter equipment and using the built in inverters. No Tesla Gateway or critical loads panel needed they say.

      @@nicksgarage2 Will your system include grid power outage backup capabilities?
      Do both of the Powerwalls include an inverter (meaning the second one is not a DC Expansion unit)?
      Will they be installing another battery sub-panel "combiner" on the way to the main panel, or will each one of the batteries will run a separate conduit to the main panel?

    A couple of quesions.
    What solar panels produced power at night time? Until 7 pm like you mentioned?
    Usually good sunhours for solar production are from 9 to 4 or 5 pm at the latest.

      Many parts of the Northern USA will receive sunlight as late as 7:30PM from May to July. The irradiance will be directed towards the NW faces of roofs, so western-facing panels with unobstructed sun access are needed to capture this later afternoon sun.

      He is referring to the batteries discharging back to the household load at night. No solar panels make power at night.

      @@andresrestrepo-qj4yt jinko 465w bf,I got 2 recent shorts,solar upgrades was at 7pm and solar is too easy was at 610am , ignore pv3 it's getting fixed in Aug,then should be over 2.5kw in full overcast.I have a few ideas to boost power,test and result video close to sept.i have seen pv2 @460w 20 mins after sunrise.

    1:26 Where are you getting the 4x stacking limit? On their website, Tesla is allowing me to buy 6 Powerwalls for a single install.

      I've also seen other places that the max number of powerwall 3 units is 4 but each of those units can have multiple dumb powerwall 3 units which don't increase the max load amount but will help keep the lights on longer. I'm not sure why they would sell you six when from what myself and others have seen you can only use 4.

    I was told the power wall 2 you were able to attach non-Tesla batteries to it and non-Tesla solar panels. But the Tesla wall three you are unable to attach non-Tesla solar panels and or non-Tesla batteries is that true?

      With the Tesla Powerwall 3, you can pair any solar panel brand with the battery. Tesla does not actually manufacture a solar panel, they instead white label the Q-Cell. As far as batteries, you are correct in that you are unable to pair Powerwall 3's with other batteries in a retrofit installation.

    Like the cars ? My first Tesla 2013 was never low in price cost me $ 100K and a Model S with better performance is today cheaper. So you got that all wrong. Most likely will the price for all batteries just like all solar panels and flat TV screen still keep dropping due to mass production. Pls. Get you facts right ! But otherwise great video !
