    I panic too much when I'm in the water. I'm in level one lesson 4, and today we were supposed to jump and I couldn't do it. So they told me to stand on the edge and get a feeling. Two lifeguard went behind me and gave a look to my instructor. Once I notice that look, I knew what they were going to do. I went to the bench and they told them no. They started to pull me out Of the bench and I was holding it with all my force. Then all of the lifeguard went towards me and surrounded me and told me, "u got 5 seconds to get up. If you don't, all of us is going to Throw u in the deep end." So I got up, stand in the edge, and one of the lifeguard grab me by the stomach and jump with me. Once I got to the surface, all of them started to clap and cheer for me. This moment was a embarrassing/accomplishment day.

      That kind of treatment by teachers is criminal in our eyes. The student must always have a choice and go at his/her own pace. You've come to class to learn to be confident. Forcing you does the opposite. You can check the event off the list, but you do not own it and you probably don't want to do it again tomorrow.

    A nice video, but you don't mention the hardest bit (for me) when they taught us to do this at school: even if I breathed out through my nose, the jump would force stinging chlorine water up my nose, into my sinuses and to the back of my throat. I hated it! When I learned properly I bought a nose-clip, and problem solved. Funnily enough, my freediving teacher doesn't like jumping into water much either, and yet we're both happy to swim down 20-30m without air. Jumping in a pool still reminds me of the horrible school swimming lessons.

    • @MelonDashMiracleSwimming
      @MelonDashMiracleSwimming Рік тому +3

      You must not settle for this kind of discomfort! Hold your nose when you jump in! Water can't go in that way. After you can jump in comfortably holding your nose, you can start thinking of how to keep water out of your nose if you don't hold it. But don't try to learn both things at once: jumping in AND keeping water out of your nose. Step by step, staying present for each step because it's not too much at once. That's the Miracle Swimming way.

    In our opinion, many steps are skipped in this video sequence. You have to squash your feelings and do something very scary to follow the directions. This is a teaching to manage fear. People don't want to manage fear: they want to heal it. Thank you.

    As a fearful swimmer, the worst part of going in over one's head is water up the nose, eyes, mouth, choking gasping... It would be very helpful if the video explained how to slowly and calmly EXHALE through your nose as you enter the water until you surface...that way you do not get a snoot full!

      Me too. Minecwas a reflex action. Opened my mouth & then panic sets in.
      That moment you don't tell yourself to stay calm & relax coz you don't wanna fucking die.
      No matter how you practice to remain calm once the water enters the nostrils & mouth that's the closets I'll come to death.

      Try using a nose-clip, and take a deep breath before jumping into water that's not too deep, say 1.5m. As you get used to it, you'll be able to do deeper water.

    I finally overcomed my fear- jumping in the water. It’s more than just jumping, it’s a fear. After sliding in the pool for 6 weeks (about), I decided to try. Except, I found I wasn’t ready. In the pool there is a bar sort of in the water (for me) that most beginners hold on to swim. I decided to jump from that. Luckily enough, that made me a bit more courageous. Then, I tried a week after. Still wasn’t ready. I tried a week after, wasn’t ready. But today, my swimming instructor told me to try. And I did. Let me tell you, jumping is so fun!! It’s not scary at all, trust me. Just imagine the water is a trampoline!!
    edit: i can now jump in 10ft without fear :)

    I hate swimming lessons at school, mainly because I have to jump in the deep end of the pool. Whenever they tell me to I break down and they end up either yelling at me or pushing me in and it’s TERRIFYING it’s just scary because I mean drowning,swallowing water, having to float to the top and swim back! Like last summer I went on a water slide with a pool at the bottom and I didn’t know it was 7 foot deep so I went on and when I sunk under I couldn’t swim back up again and I nearly passed out sooo yeah I hate it

He will only Jump off the diving board if he has a "noodle" tied around his waist. Okay so pls nobody judge me but when I was little my parents tried countless swim lessons for me but I was always just too scared of the water. I am now 13 and can’t swim because (pls don’t judge) but I’m literally scared to float. I know that sounds so stupid but I can go under water I just can’t let myself trust the water. Any suggestions?

    When me and my family get in the pool my oldest cousin would tell me to jump in and im scared to jump in the pool because i feel like i can either drown or drift away to the deep end. I know how to swim but I just want to jump into the pool by myself so i can overcome the fear.

      Finally I found someone who has the same fear. I literally feel paranoid, when I am standing at the edge of the pool. Especially when I am not wet yet. But I do want to learn it, since it takes ages to get used to the water (on the shallow end). I know how to swim, but I am just too scared also at the deep end

      Hey Dilip! Thanks for commenting. Don't worry, if you have some air in your lungs you'll float back up to the surface. If you kick your legs and paddle with your arms you'll get back to the surface even quicker. • @tobby_fabulous
    @tobby_fabulous 3 роки тому +3

    Everyone keeps talking about breathing out under water to prevent water from getting into the head via the nose
    But when you finish breathing all air out, can you still remain calm under water?
    I'm not sure how anyone can still stay calm as everything within you would want to breath in by reflex
    If that's the case, how then do you swim longer under the deep pool?

    So yeah I don't know how to swim well just a little bit,in my school im in 5 and in the 1st trimester we need to do swimming pool and in 2019 when im going to be in 6 I also need to swim im basically afraid of water because I think I'll sink and in one class I needed to jump and I was scared but 1 of my friends she know how to swim so she accompanied me when I needed to jump in front of my classmates and so I did it and...failed I slap my face with the water and without putting my goggles it was funny though😅So the reason I don't know how to swim is bc in my childhood" I lived in a construction so in the top of the construction there was a pool and I only went there few times I always went to the kids pool bc I was little and luckily I had my big brother that he knows how to swim but still I never learned how to swim but this video make me feel more comfortable thanks tho❤ like!

    • @SikanaEnglish
      @SikanaEnglish  7 років тому +3

      Thanks for commenting! You're definitely not alone to be afraid of sinking. What's important to remember is that as long as your lungs are full of air, you will float back up to the surface completely naturally, as your ribcage will act as a buoyancy aid. This video will give you some more information about this: bit.ly/2tdOE2m
      By working through the exercises at your own pace, with someone you trust to support you, you can overcome your fear - we believe in you! Good luck, and do let us know how you get on :)
