Now that you have a few cuts with the 462, bet you are loving the power! Ran two ranks in my Husqvarna 550xp today in the heat. Is a great saw for what I was cutting, smaller diameter cherry logs. The lightweight compared to my 572xp made a huge difference in how much I could cut today. No need for the monster 70cc saw in wood as small as I was cutting today.
She is a beast and you better keep an eye out on those Husky lovers...They will be rocking your chain when you aren't looking to make theirs faster!🤣 You did a great job on finding a safe and level spot for break in and getting to know the saw. 👍 After reading some comments I would like to throw in my 2 cents also...Turn the oiler completely up. All these new EPA rules make manufacturers limit the bar oil and you want all it will give, especially in dead wood. Do be careful on running out of fuel. It makes saw run lean for a few seconds and lack of oil for lubrication. Saw was not hurt but not how you want to discover it needs fuel each time. Also...I am not completely sold on stand up and buck for a novice or one learning. You are not bucking 12 hour days, a rather fit man for your age and 20 minutes of bending over to buck a tree is good stretching and a safe way to cut. Always try new chain first but most need just a swipe maybe 2 off the rakers to really cut when new. The manufacturers do this to protect themselves. Have a great weekend! Looking good . 👍 I have the light weight bars on the 461 and 661 . Never had a issue . Always used sthil medium oil year round and did turn up the oiler on both saws with the longer bars . Once you get some time on that saw and bar you will wonder how you did without it . 👍
Morning Ridgeback. Thanks for the note this morning. Do you think I need to turn up the oiler? I noticed that usually when you use a tank of fuel, you usually use up a tank of oil but the oil was only about 1/2 empty? I didn't see any smoke or anything, and the bar and chain were cool shortly after i finished but not sure if I am getting the right amount of oil? Any thoughts?
@@GPOutdoors Good morning Gord . I’m using now a little more than half tank oil on full tank gas . Over time I noticed a big difference on bar wear and chain wear . There’s always a nice film of oil on the bar just down from guide edge and under the chain at all times on the longer bars . I found less stretching of chains meaning less adjusting tension all the time cutting large hard wood logs like your doing . No smoke no heat like you said is exactly right . It’s cheaper too use a little extra oil . Long Bars and chains are not cheap . Keep a eye on the bar edge for burring . I’m sticking with the extra oil use . It’s really paid off on maintenance and performance on hard woods . So I would turn it up a bit . 👍
Good job, nice saw and nice blocking for the splitter !! If I run the 440 bone dry it's the devil to get going again....I learned quick to stop and refuel at the first stutter. Is your 462 set up with the summer/winter components to flip around under the cover ?

Great saw! I have a 660, 462, and 261. The 462 is my go to. The power and weight make it almost ideal for any situation. Check out west coast saw and get yourself a bark box and proper felling dogs. The exhaust note of the bark box is probably another reason I always grab the 462!

Turn up your oiler.. just advance it a hair I can hear it being a dry pull. And with them big meats buck horizontal with the wood no need to fancy a over/forward dive then pull the wood it's all in balance then pull. Nice saw give a few more weeks and just like my ol 440 you won't change a thing about it. My 261 is my everyday workhorse but in big wood that 462 will seem lighter don't ask me why....
Your back will thank you years from now if you stop bending over when bucking. I kneel on the ground to cut, keeps the back upright. It’s like not wearing hearing protection, you won’t know it was a bad idea until it’s too late.
I spent my career in a field with a high risk of back injury(nursing) and we were taught to never bend over( squat instead, as your legs are far stronger than your back) to lift anything heavy. Eventually good body mechanics become automatic.
I just don't understand why you have to have that belt with all that garb on when just going to buck firewood. Does all that stuff not get in your way? Limit maneuverability? I seen you stumble forward more than once when finishing with your upcuts. If your chain is sharpened correctly and your rakers are filed just right you shouldn't have to push your saw so hard to make those last cuts. The last thing you need is to fall forward, falling over the log and ontop of your saw. Fresh chains from the sawshop aren't cut worthy. Not to me anyway. Also get you a longer bar. Less bending over. You could have made every one of those buck cuts in one pass. Without biting the dirt if you just ease off the wide open throttle. Remember. Tools are made to make your tasks easier. Not harder. Work smart and be safe. We're all learning together!
Morning Cody - excellent thoughts today. I assumed the chain was sharp from the shop but I did notice I had to push for sure. Just sharpened yesterday so will try it out today./ The pouch - I used to think the same thing which is why i didn't get one before but no, you get used to it - out of the way totally and not heavy at all. Glad I have it now. LOL. The stumbling? more to do with the late night "festivities" over at Guy's workshop with a few of the neighbours the night before I think. My morning coffee didn't help much. Thanks for the suggestions - much appreciated as always.

Do yourself a couple of favors..punch / tap the oil button in for full oil and run Amsoil Saber!! Swear it feels zipper with that stuff!!

My 261 does the same. Makes a point to always have a backup saw so you can keep cutting
When you are running out of gas, you are running out of oil for the engine lubrication. Best avoided.
