  • The Stihl MS 462 is Stihl's lates high tech chainsaw that is supposed to replace the Stihl 441 & 461. It is also the competitor of the Husqvarna 572 XP. It only weighs 6kg, comes with 72,2cm3 and has 6hp. We put it to the test to see if it lives up to its reputation. We made a review of the Husqvarna 572 XP as well which you can find here: • Breaking Down the Husq...

      In the nwt Canada we get these things going around minus 30 Celsius. Thin the bar oil with kerosene and leave the saw under your snowmobiles exhaust to warm it up.

    So tempting, thank you so much for making this video. Last winter I was felling many smaller trees with my 435eii, largest ones being 70 ft but started running into larger trees (in terms of dbh). The saw while great for limbing shows some weakness and it takes quite longer than it should to buck up trees on the ground. Probably just doing more than it was designed to, a tank of gas won't even last half a tree for me haha.

    I been playing around with getting a 661 or a 660 , but this my be a contender with a full wrap handle , some west coast dogs and a high flow air filter , would probably add a suga bar also.

    Thanks for the review. I have a couple MS 441's with 36" bars and an 070 with a 48" bar here in Liberia. With the long bars, weight and balance are real issues. I'm planning to sell the 070 and get a smaller model with a 20" bar for limbs and smaller trees. Hopefully that will help save my arms and back!

    Well I'm a husqvarna guy I've always been. I just got the stihl ms 362c for christmas, it wasnt on my christmas list but still a little surprised. I havent played with it yet but just by the weight and balance alone compared to my other saws especially the trigger response I'm starting to like it a little more than my Huskies. But we shall see how it does out in the timber field.

    I was quite happy with my old 365SP until the other day when I used a 462..
    It's weird, with one in each hand they feel the same weight (365 - 20" solid bar, 462 - 24" ES light). But in use the 462 felt feather weight, really, really nice.

    Hi, interesting and nice review. I want say only one thing.... I've used some saw and i can say that Dolmar 7900, already 15-20 years ago had the best power weight ratio: 6,3 Hp for 6,1 kg 1,3 kg for KW.... I've Husky 562 xp and is the same weight...... only the size change... Dolmar is more fat and little less handly.... but use an 79cc with 6,3 HP with the same weight of a 59,8 cc mean that Dolmar have done a big project already 15 or more years ago.... Yes Sthil 462 is good product have a good power weight ratio but for who have know Dolmar 7900, don't is absolute novelty. Compliments to Sthil for compacting the body machine... But the big step will done from Sthil with the MS500 that will surpass the record held since today from DOLMAR 7900.... seams that will be the same weight of 462 but with 80CC engine and 6,8 HP that mean 1,24 KW for kg. versus 1,3 Kw for kg. held from 7900. thanks again for the review!!!

  • @smithtradfallning
    @smithtradfallning 6 років тому

    The big question will be how the two compare in terms of longevity. Husqvarna has had the 572 out for at least 4 years for testing in Canada and other places, nobody had seen the 462 before it came out. The people that were allowed to test the 462 for some commercial footage said that they only go to use the saw for a few days. Husqvarna seems to have put a lot of time and money into testing the 572 and hopefully correcting many of the problems that have plagued the 5 series saws, while it seems as though Stihl didn't put the 462 into the hands of anyone that would push it hard for an extended period of time. The 462 is lighter and more powerfuIl but not by a lot. I won't be selling my 044's anytime soon.

    • @zombiefighterof1987
      @zombiefighterof1987 6 років тому

      Stihl didn't really need to test it as much since the main thing needing testing is the carburetor control which Stihl had tested for much longer before it came out than Husqvarna, making Mtronic much more reliable of a system than AutoTune.

    • @smithtradfallning
      @smithtradfallning 6 років тому

      M-tronic is known to be more reliable than Autotune, I am talking more about having such a lightweight powerhead that is generating 6hp. Where is the weight loss coming from and how is that going to affect the longevity/durability of the saw in a professional setting.

    • @mikagami69
      @mikagami69 6 років тому

      kyle smith I think that's really the issue with newer Stihl stuff - the weight savings is awesome (limbing with a 261 versus a 562?!), but at what cost in terms of longevity, which matters for the pro user? Downtime and maintenance costs add up when you are not just running a couple of saws, cutting firewood (although it matters for someone doing that as well, but for different reasons).

    Put a 20 inch bar on any big saw, it always looks good, even if it's dull.

    No no no no no, what you really want is a grandig umlout 9.7horsepower 680. It's not the best in the business but it gets the job done. You could just fit a Mitchell Dudley end cap onto a Schwartz chaddington grimmel saw and call it a day but you might have a tough time aligning the Chadwick housing into the Thompson handle locator. At the end of it all you'd still only end up with an ok chainsaw. That's why I recommend the Harley velterschnitzer Uno one ninety crankshaft block on a jengart Krimmy cylinder head with a fahley 68 head gasket repair kit

    Great video. I had the Stihl 361 and loved it. But after seeing this video, I think if I were looking for a saw, I'd check the Stihl 462 out first if it's similar in weight. 😎👍

    The Stihl MS 362 is still a really good saw, it's a good compromise between weight power and cost

    If you own this saw when you start it let it idle for 30 seconds then throttle for 30 seconds also make sure the plastic weather strip inside is set for the correct temperature that you will be cutting in
    Summer/Winter

      It is never good advice to throttle a saw at max RPM out of the wood, especially with a brand new saw and for 30 seconds!!

  • @machinbiduletruc2248

    The MS-46x are great saws, a bit heavy for the full processing of a tree tho... Actually i use my 461 as little as possible (falling and trunk), I use a little 211 whenever I can. Yup, getting old... :P
    I'd love to have your brother's opinion about the MS-201 C-M, not the TC-M, for delimbing on the ground.
    (and more wood videos!) ;)

    I was a die hard sithl user or so i thought for some years. the stihl air filter and a collection of dead 660's eventually ruined it. If it aint red it stays in the shed. jonsered/ husqvarna and never going back. oh and electronics are anything but alluring LOL

    Hi. Great Video. I love the forestry Videos with Tim!
    If I would not have bought a Husqvarna 390 xp last year, the MS 462 would be a great option.
    Only thing is that i am not yet 100% convinced is that Software in a Saw is a good idea in the long term. I think that in case something fails in some years diagnosis would be only possible with a laptop and the repair would be expansive. But i am having a Volvo 940 from 1994 as a daily driver, so maybe i am not the reference here.... ;-)
