They have mor range than an archer, and have a 1.3 second cooldown. This is why you should rely on them more than the poachers. Good combos: 6 blow darts, 2 pharaohs, 1 wizard, and Thor. 4 blow darts, 8 boxers, Thor with a flag bearer

There is something very important and somewhat obvious about using the tank, the gun is basically a fast reloading ballista. I does a crap ton of damage, but you need to make it count. On the second tribal level, the tank would constantly fire on the chieftains, leaving both snuffies alive. Meanwhile, when you used snuffy against it, it always had a clear shot so it one shot. The tank ramming still also does a lot of damage, so seen once again in tribal 2. Like so Sauce can see.
He gives the musket so much crap, but, when he needs them most, they come through in the end

Answering some of your questions:
Q: Why are factions good as enemies and bad as friends?
A: They always use units that are good against crowds and some units that are good against big units.
Q: Why are scarecrows and vlad terrible for me and gods for them?
A: They are expensive strength in numbers units.
Q: What is it with the wobbly horse?
A: They meaninglessly wobble their legs while a mysterious force pushes them forward(tested with balloons) (same thing with minotaurs)
