A cafe in Shanghai, which is operated by a special needs school, is staffed mostly by the mentally disabled. Its staff includes seven graduates from the Special Education School in Pudong New Area and one able-bodied young man who works as a manager. Launched jointly by the school and a local businessman, the project will expand to include a car wash service and a gift shop to offer more jobs for such young people.

@Heather Larson - That's not true. There is a British couple, the Gould, found the "Butterfly Children’s Hospices" in Changsha city, Hunan, for the mentally and physically challenged children who have been abandoned by their parents. And there is a German lady, I couldn't recall her name, opened a bakery shop to train, again, mentally, physically challenged children to be baker in Beijing.
Heather Larson I agree with you about the Hong Kong rioters, and I’m from Hong Kong. They are so naive, asking the US to intervene and help, when they can’t see that the US government doesn’t truly care about us at all - they’re just using us to attack China. Once we’ve served our purpose, we’ll be tossed to the side...
Very common in Singapore too. They should never be left out in a society.
Really? Never noticed before. Can u name few places?

My cousin has worked at a tourist spot near Boston for almost 30 years now. She’s considered high-functioning Down Syndrome, but I remember when she was young and my aunt was devastated when they took her she was low functioning and would likely need intensive personal care all her life. Of course, she was also told Emmy probably wouldn’t make it through puberty due to a heart defect common in Downs patients. I babysat her when she was young and she LOVED being read books.we KNEW she was *special*! My Aunt and Uncle found new doctors, drove several hours twice a day to take her to a school that worked with her closely, she had heart surgery at about age 6 and never again had any cardiac issues. She moved into her own place after graduating high school, first worked in an ice cream parlor, then found out about this job at a local historic area-she’s now either a manager or supervisor. She’s been with her partner about 25 years and they have a really nice place.
These “Special” places should be in every town and city around the world. Emmy and people like her ARE truly *special* and with the right support and encouragement, many, if not most, can go on to live productive, self-sufficient lives! Oh, and she STILL LOVES books, but reads them herself! (Although I got into hot water for recommending a kind of disaster book that apparently gave her and her partner nightmares about volcanos. I promised her, in Boston, she really has nothing to worry about...then she spent a month reading about the geology of Eastern Massachusetts and educating ME! 😂)
Amazing. It just goes to show what those who are disadvantaged can do with some extra TLC.
This is such amazing and a beautiful story to hear, wish you And your cousin and all your family the best!.
These kids look purer and happier. I would love to be served by them in a cafe.
I hope they continue to be treated with dignity, kindness, and love.
The dislikes are from the kids who bully these beautiful people
Or adults I'm a kid,but I do not bully anyone :)

This is why i love China. This is how China and Chinese are. China and Chinese people are not exactly what western & Indian media shows us. Huge respect to you all Amazing Chinese out there. Every country has a down side, we gotta understand this❤️
Thank you for your beautiful comment !
thank you for spreading positivity :D
Chinese citizens are amazing and very hospitable, it is the ccp that I can't respect

"17 million disabled in China, 9.4 million are employed".
I just had a headline idea for BBC, CNN, WION and Epoch Times "Nearly 7 Million Disabled Chinese Are Desperate for A Job".
Haha nice one.
I love the Chinese for their kindness and devotion. Will visit China to see the culture and knowledge in the future.
Many people are wrong against China. They must visit here to see the truth.
THIS IS GREAT!!! love from America!!
My respects to the owner and the people associated with it. Takes a great effort and dedication to this work.
Be kind to one another always try to be kind
We are all a little messed up but kindness goes a long way
I salute whoever made this Cafe, you're one amazing person!
That is very kind! Everyone deserves a chance to do what they can. Will visit them if I ever go to shanghai.
They are less "handicapped" than most young American service employees these days. Because they actually try and care.
What? Most young American service workers are young people who struggle with poverty. I’m not sure it’s comparable. In America you are constantly exploited by your bosses. I mean look what’s happening right now. Millions of service workers are being forced to go back to work in the middle of the pandemic with little protection while white collar workers are able to work from home. American service workers are struggling through late stage capitalism. I bet you’re never worked as a service worker because your opinion sounds so privileged. There are high school students right now working at food chains, risking their lives so that people can go out and eat. You sound ignorant

Thank you for solidifying my point.
Ignorance is not knowing. Stupidity is being incapable of learning. I am privileged to have been born in this country and have unlimited opportunities. Just like you. Baaa....
Yeah I worked in the school district and it frustrated me to see people like the parents claim they can't work and live off of the system and expect their kids to do the same and they don't even have the issues or disabilities like these kids.
Very heart warming humanity is all around us
Thats so kind of them
Heartwarming ❤️!! love and respect 🙌
Absolutely love this! The entire environment is so supportive, friendly, amazing! It gives people an amazing opportunity where otherwise they would be forgotten or rejected
太好了!我最近一直在找妹妹可以做的工作,没想到上海居然有!希望社会能多一些智力残疾的人可以做的岗位或者这样的工作地方,看到生活的希望,让他们知道他们也是可以有工作的!
祝你们好运!
I hope that there will be more places like this around the world..
Thumbs up, to the people that helps and create an apportunities for them to grow .. I know it's not an easy task because i have little sister with a down syndrome too.. 👍
What a great thing to see👍😊

Wow this is amazing. People where in from are more than capable but make reasons not to stand on their own two feet. Hopefully videos like this can inspire them.
The manager is nice enough to let them apply

This actually brought tears in my eyes
It did for a lot of people, it did for all of us, we just have to respect what we have.
Empathy at its finest, bravo.
Heartwarming story
This is heart warming
Huge respect and love for them ❤️
This was great to watch. At the end of the day mentally disabled people are still people too and giving them opprtunities like this helps build up their skills.
This brought a big smile to my face this morning it just made me feel so happy.
每个子女都是父母生的。 Hope their business can grow bigger to help more people. 🙏
That is the sweetest thing-
we need more business owner like them.. ❤️
This makes me feel happy for some reason
This is certainly not easy. You need patience, dedication, and most of all, willingness to stand together with them. Probably a bit slower here and there, but then isn't it just beautiful? To give them the chance they deserve to be in the society just like many others. Hope this cafe will be in operation and keeping it this way for a long long time.
are they accepting applications ? I know a few commenters here that qualify
Me i only have one eye
@@joj4096 they said mentally disabled, not physically. Sorry, you're unqualified: (

love this. actually Shanghai has lot cafes like this
This kind of projects should be more motivated and supported all around the world
I wish I could visit this place 💙💙💙
Well that’s China . Very much inspired by this . 👍🏻keep it up. The world can be jealous and hateful towards China, but Chinese people are definitely determined, united and hardworking citizens which are a great asset for their country.
thank you!
These kind of people is the most strongest people than any normal people. Big respect😍❤️.
This cafe is rlly nice!

This does indeed put a big smile on my face
Everyone just need a opportunity to show their talent no one is born without it.
Hope to see this kind of cafes more and more in the US in aim to help unprivileged people and young adults in need!! We can all use a bit more love and support during this difficult time❤️
Be grateful when you are complete.

Aww this is so sweet! If I had the chance I would definitely go!
This beautiful thing should exist in the whole world
Humanity shines here. My best wishes!
Amazing..superb..Bless you🙏
So nice!! If I had heard of this cafe, I would’ve gone when I was in Shanghai. Hope I can remember this cafe and go whenever I make it back to Shanghai
Opening the door of opportunity to someone is same as sowing the seed of hope in a life and that should be the pivotal motive of an entrepreneur to support the fellow human
I'm happy for them☺
Excellent work!
I am amazed. This is the first time I see this kind of concept. I mean think about the stigma of the customers, don't think many people want to be served by the 'disabled'. Hopefully I am wrong, but there are reasons this concepts is not even exist in most countries, right?
Salute to China and their people who makes the difference in this world
Is amazing to see things like this but is a shame that we don't actually see it more often.
There is a non-profit organization/cafe near where I am from. It’s called Ada’s cafe (standing for Americans with disabilities) and they primarily hire individuals with disabilities. They used to have two locations but the one in San Francisco closed and with COVID things have been difficult at the remaining location. It’s a fantastic place if anyone wants to check it out online to visit or donate. :)
My heart🥺❤️
this is so beautiful ❤️
Oh this is very sweet! Let's have more establishment like this!
This video reminds me of the film The Forest Cat (Fei Mao). A foreign film that was very booming in Indonesia at that time, was very tearful, and I learned a lot from this film. Patience and zest for life. One thing I love is that they never harm other people.
Skilling these kids would be the greatest gift given lack of welfare, hence ensuring security for their future. This is a fantasic idea. Love this lady 👏👏👏
What a nice cafe! Such amazing workers it has 😁
Makes my heart smile
this is such a great initiative 😍
Amazing concept. This should be adopted across the globe
Honestly, as a person with Asperger’s Syndrome I dont mind working at a place like this so I can get to know people who have different or similar disabilities. Plus it’ll probably be so much better than my current job at a convenience store.
