As a "never once played but love the game as a spectator" I love this kind of insight to the game that it's impossible to get without videos like this. I'd love to see more content about the details of the game we aren't aware of!
Some people who watch this feel it’s boring but if your like me and have a true love for that game this is genius. You could have kids sit and watch this and get better as oppose to a three hour practice with some coaches who do not teach the correct things in baseball. Keep this stuff up Matt.
Thanks Matt! This was an amazing breakdown of the details and fundamentals. I loved this. I’ll be going over these very things with our team. Very much appreciated.
Matt I'm a big Braves fan and love to see tape of Ron Washington working with his infielders every day. He works hours every day hitting to them. I would love for you to show some of his workouts on your show. Thanks for what you do for all ages.
I was just going over this stuff with my 12 year old daughter yesterday. When she gets home from school today we're going to watch this video together. We're also Royals fans so win, win. 😎
Defense is my favorite in baseball, and not just pitching. I played catcher, and I love a good diamond general behind home plate. I swear every time you search up: "the best players at ____ position", it's always based on hitting, never fielding.
I’ve seen a ton of your stuff Matt and this video ranks right up there. So much gold in this short demo. Can I ask what video app you use to analyze your videos?
Great Video, I tried to find a live video of him fielding in a game to see if his fielding mechanics are the same in a game as they are during fungos or pre game just to compare and like you said "everyone is a hitting coach," hitting is sexy I guess. The only videos of him I could find were all hitting, well I did find "one" but it was a diving play.
The few times I played infield, if I was doing what you described, I wasn't making a throw. I was usually close enough to step on the base for the force.
One thing you said stuck out to me (overall great video as always though!) ... You said, "I can find a hitting coach on every corner, but never a fielding coach" ... It stuck out because I had to listen to a parent complain about not getting enough hitting practice in because we were fielding too much. One of their dumb lines was you wont make any team not being able to hit, big hitters and OK fielders go far. Great fielders and less than average hitters go nowhere. As someone who has not played pro ball, what am I supposed to tell this parent? Do you have any insight? All I had for him was basically if we look good and score 15 runs a game, but give up 20 does it matter how many we scored ... he didnt really care to hear that
My son pitches on a D3 team and his infielders have NO f#cking clue how to play defense. They AVG 3-4 errors a game and thats with VERY questionable ground balls being called "hits" by the scorers. Its pathetic they never learned FUNDAM
I actually know this. I remember Ozzie Smith teaching the same thing with the feet. Like Matt said, it’s actually really hard to make your muscle memory execute this. Mechanics break down in real games
At my age, it is a badge of honor to still be able to fit in and wear shirts that are 15+ years old! Haha Also, they are my barometer..."uh oh, this shirt's getting a little tight...time for more salads and less rolls!" :D
Its "relaxed" and not forced as thumb out would be...like a catcher coming to secondary to soon and being "leg locked" causing slower and weaker throw!

This is one of your best videos!
Awesome insights Matt! Thank you so much for sharing 😊
Love love love.
Great video

Makes me realize how lucky I was to have a coach teach me these things as a kid.....

Matt, I wish I had your videos when I was in little league.
Good stuff.
I’m loving the Bobby Witt jr content, kid is gonna be special.
Great video thank you ⚾️

Hi coach my lefty 11 y/o son likes playing short and third but would you not agree it is best for him to focus on 1st and outfield and pitching?
Hey Matt, what’s the app or software you are using to playback the video?
My son has a custom glove that same style and color Matt
I'd love to know the app you're using to scroll through film frame by frame like that. It could help me big time when I'm instructing my players.

What if you are a lfet hander? Does this make your foot work differently?

It gets really easy if you do it the right way. This ain’t rocket surgery.
Rocket surgery??
Brain science is harder than Rocket Surgery!!!
Oh....so you're this good also? I doubt it
He Matt, question, does his glove arm look too stretched out?, should he be a bit lower and hands a bit more in front with arms not so stretched out?
You should get some blinds for your window
Why thumbs up rather than thumbs out?

infield secrets they do not want you to know about
