To me, Metallica is the best thing that ever happened to music. No word can describe my deep love for this beautiful band. Thank you, Polar Music Prize, for including my favorite band of all time: Metallica.
My most sincere and deep congratulations to Metallica and polar prizes for this recognition, living legends that deserve this and more ... thanks to Metallica that changed my life and made me discover my passion ....the music....
Master of Puppets was a great album. But I've always been fond of Ride the Lightning. That was just a killer album in every way. What a way to debut on a major label.
I get pissed off when people call Metallica 'sell outs'...that's so BS!! They have the right to progress as any other band...and they have aiways been true to themselves. You can actually hear in there music that they love what they do! So...hats off for Metallica...a true rock band!
I have had the pleasure of seeing Metallica in concert numerous times and they're awesome. The 1st time was in 1990, and recently at the Ball Park in SF CA
Respect to my fellow Dane Lars, and his amazing band Metallica. Respect to the team at the Polar Music Prize for recognizing the art of metal. But hey, Swedes know hard rock!
In my opinion they are the greatest metal/rock band of the past 40 years. The quality and diversity of their catalogue is second to none. It's been a great time growing up with their music, and watching how they have grown as musicians, and seeing where their artistic creativity has taken them. Being both a fan of them, and a fan of many genres of music, not just metal, it's wonderful to be able to shuffle their catalogue and listen to tracks like Hit the Lights, Creeping Death, and Damage Inc, mixed with beautiful songs like Mama Said, Low Mans Lyric, and The Outlaw Torn. They have such amazing range. There are many great bands of our time, but alot of those after 6 or 7 albums have gotten stale and samey. There are no two Metallica Albums that sound alike. Even albums which follow a similar structure like Lightning/Puppets have their own unique sound. Well deserved gentlemen. *12 year olds who want to troll this comment with "they sucked after Justice" can politely not bother because you will be swiftly ignored.
Zac Mason Because the mustache looks better on him. And it makes him more badass. Plus he has this goatee for like 15 years now. Oh and the mustache makes him look like the old James. He also grew his mustache back in 2003 and it looked good on him, that was the last time he still looked like Justice/black album/Load and reload James. Only a goatee is meh.
The Quintessential Well that would be cool but I don't see that happening since James is getting bald. (Still not as bald as lars lol) but he doesn't even need long hair, Only a mustache is good enough. If he grows his mustache back, he would look like load and reload era James.
They've helped me to see life in so much different ways, they've given me the will to fight when im going trough hell, they´ve teach me to carpe diem and search for justice for all, disposing all my hate and sickness killing them all, riding the lighthing as a metahpor to ride my own life in the way i want to live it, and mastering my inner self so that i break free from the master of puppets. i love em in each and every one of their phases, Long Live the greatest metal band in the world! 'Tallica
Well deserved winner. I love Metallica and started listning to them when I was a teenager. Back the grunge was the big thing for me, with Nirvana, Soundgarden and Pearl Jam. But somehow Metallica awakened me and brought me to a more heavier place. I primaly listen to the drums, because I play drums myself. Lars Ulrich was and still is a big inspiration to me. Not that all he does is extremely complex to play, but the catching grooves and fills he plays is great. Some of their hardcore fans dislike the Load and Re-Load albums, but for me they are great and some good albums with much variations. Congrats guys, You guys are great.
Does anyone read these? I dunno....but there's my all time favorite band.....can't deny it.....I can't seem to stop being fascinated by the whole thing....from the first days back in 1986, seeing the older guys wearing the tshirts at school and thinking.....those shirts are seriously dark and menacing......to then in 1987 hearing James'growl for the first time on the radio when One debuted....I was 13 years old.......I still remember where I was standing in my room, what the weather was like, what time of day it was....everything.....and from the first few lines sung......it was immediate......FAR more powerful than any drug......not even a competition.....and it.began an absolute obsession, not only with Metallica, but with heavy metal in general.....and make no mistake.....I knew from the first listen.....I KNEW. KNEW .......that they would be the biggest and the best in world. I think many people did, obviously. Anyway, I may not have gotten in on the ground floor, but I certainly did my best to make up for it, and I wasn't let down....now, at 46 years old, they've got alot of the money I've made over the years, but they've got even more of my love and steadfast devotion. Even when they do shitty stuff. Which is pretty rare. I love Metallica.
In the same company as Paul McCartney, Yo-Yo Ma, Elton John and Chuck Berry; not to mention the entire nations of Estona, Latvia, and Lithuania. Incredible achievement to the greatest hard rock/metal band of all-time!!!
might seems silly but it made my eyes wet seeing this ,sometimes i forget how great this band is i still have hope to see them live one day tho i can't never see them live in my country(because i live in a Muslim country
I waited 23 years to see them live, I`m from Costa Rica, Metallica Live is out of the World, they have come here twice and I was there the two times, 5 meters from the stage, it was one of the best things that ever happened in my life. I really hope you could go to a Concert one day brother.
Well deserve. They did more than change my life and help me through the songs. They are inspirations for the rest of my life and that since 1989 . THANKS METALLICA !
Oh yeah. ... and yes they give my sense of alienation some super power whooôôoohoôôoooou, cause when I am playing, I'm always going through some universe .... and through the never.
As a diehard Metallica fan since I discovered their music back in 84 when I was just 16, they ruled the 80's and then pissed off many original fans like me in the 90's after the black album but I still stuck with them and was glad I did to see them capture their roots and still kickass! You cannot kill the family, battery is found in me.
Nah, Lars is the drunk trubadour in the bar yelling about suing the self-playing piano manufacturer. ;) Gotta say I dig Metallica's music none the less.
I bet Cliff and Jason were originally parts in the little history telling, but for unknown reasonable reasons they had to keep it short and cut them out. It was a brief story after all and only so much worth mentioning within a 7,5 min video...
Wow, you guys didn't even mention that amazing collaboration with one of the film industry's leading composers at the time, Michael Kamen, who actually approached Metallica to create one of the best metal/orchestral arrangements ever heard. So disappointed in you guys for not mentioning that historic moment. It was probably the only time Metallica(particularly Lars) was forced to play at standard studio speed which was epic.
Oh yeah. ... And yes they give my sense of alienation some super power whooôôoohoôôoooou, cause when I am playing, I'm always going through some universe... and through the never .
The two most influential metal bands are 1. Black sabbath and 2. Venom. Venom is the bottleneck through wich all extreme metal origin. Venom was the beginning and foundation of Doom, Death, Black, Speed and Thrash metal and all their sub genres. Without Venom - No Metallica. Without Black sabbath - No metal at all.
Stefan Ionescu Lars was Motorhead and Deep Purple.. Hetfield had Aerosmith, motorhead, deep purple, thin lizzy.. kirk was Page, Hendrix, Aerosmith lead guitarist and michael schenker of UFO..
The intro about the band was a little inaccurate, but why raise eyebrows and start controversy. Also, the mention of Cliff Burton and Jason Newsted would have been appropriate. Still, great that they are being recognized for the music they have created, which is no doubt what will make them immortals.
Umm people saying what about Cliff???, Metallica brought Cliffs parent along to the Rock and Roll hall of fame gala, just because they dont mention him, doesnt mean his not in their hearts!
This is very welcome my question is now WHO is going to preforme in front of the guys at the cermony. In flames maby? Ralf Gyllenhammar? This can go either way.
I feel like Kirk just cannot bear to talk about how he came up with the intro to Sandman. Look at his face, he's so over it, it's all people have ever asked him, hahaha.
To me, Metallica is the best thing that ever happened to music. No word can describe my deep love for this beautiful band. Thank you, Polar Music Prize, for including my favorite band of all time: Metallica.
MrMetallidude God Bless Metallica.
MrMetallidude love your words dude ! Metallica for life !
Exactly what I think!
i understand big time they changed my life period.
Metallica for life
Proud to be a Fifth Member. \m/
Another incredible achievement from this incredible band.
*I've got something in my eye*
I cannot imagine a my world without Metallica.
Right
My most sincere and deep congratulations to Metallica and polar prizes for this recognition, living legends that deserve this and more ... thanks to Metallica that changed my life and made me discover my passion ....the music....
Master of Puppets was a great album. But I've always been fond of Ride the Lightning. That was just a killer album in every way. What a way to debut on a major label.
Agree. The best album for me is And Justice For All.
Congratulations Metallica!! well deserved.
Congrats to the guys. They've well deserved it for all the people they've helped through their music and the fun they've given.
Very fuckin proud of them man winning another award they deserve it greatest band to ever grace music!!!💀💀💀
I get pissed off when people call Metallica 'sell outs'...that's so BS!! They have the right to progress as any other band...and they have aiways been true to themselves. You can actually hear in there music that they love what they do! So...hats off for Metallica...a true rock band!
No mention of Cliff Burton or Jason Newsted?
"He fockin left the band!"
no it's the filmmakers and the producers that probably cut it off :( of course Metallica would name them too.
it's the filmmakers and the producers who doesn't know shit that cut it off, they even cut off their best albums (RTL, MOP, AJFA)
No need to mention those giants, everyone who knows knows..the rest can go fuck themselves!
lol now say all that without cry little bitch !!! u must be a Dave Mustaine family
I have had the pleasure of seeing Metallica in concert numerous times and they're awesome. The 1st time was in 1990, and recently at the Ball Park in SF CA

Congratulations Metallica! All the Metallica Family is proud of you 💓
Good cowboy James is back. Now grow your mustache back James. Well he has the mustache back!
RickGrimes41 Please James
And grew his long hair back roo
RickGrimes41 Wanna see him play in a spaggetistyle western as a gunfigher, not saying much, just impressions
Zac Mason Because the mustache looks better on him. And it makes him more badass. Plus he has this goatee for like 15 years now. Oh and the mustache makes him look like the old James. Metallica's music is the soundtrack of most of our lives. Long Live Metallica !!!

Looks like James is recovering from his clean shaven look for that Ted Bundy film.
Well deserved, congrats!
In the same company as Paul McCartney, Yo-Yo Ma, Elton John and Chuck Berry; not to mention the entire nations of Estona, Latvia, and Lithuania. Incredible achievement to the greatest hard rock/metal band of all-time!!!

I'm with you brother.
Oh and ignore the ignorant trolls
I fucking feel you man! Been in manila for the last 5 yrs and still waiting for them to come over.
I sincerely hope you get to see them!
He man keep your hopes up! It took me 7 years before I finally got to see them!
I waited 23 years to see them live, I`m from Costa Rica, Metallica Live is out of the World, they have come here twice and I was there the two times, 5 meters from the stage, it was one of the best things that ever happened in my life.

Love them all!!! Kicking major asses since ever!
About fucking time. Well deserved. Most diverse albums right from Kill 'em all to Master to Load/Reload to DM to HTSD
Wanna see James play in a cowboymovie as a gunfighter, Lars is the bad guy..
Nah, Lars is the drunk trubadour in the bar yelling about suing the self-playing piano manufacturer. ;)
Gotta say I dig Metallica's music none the less.
It was just announced that James will play a no nonsense cop in a movie about Ted Bundy.
That would be awesome.. I've always thought of that and Client Eastwood as director :)
RazzorBlade Yeah, right! In the western spagetti style, not saying much, just impressions
Nah Dave Mustaine would be better for the bad guy role
Very nice, but the narrator is being misinformed by someone on some of these points.
I love when the words Virtuoso Ensemble Playing are mentioned, a picture of Lars pops up.
Well deserved for the Polar music Price.
Свака част, најбољи сте. 😊Metallica најбољи бенд на свету. 😊
I bet Cliff and Jason were originally parts in the little history telling, but for unknown reasonable reasons they had to keep it short and cut them out. It was a brief story after all and only so much worth mentioning within a 7,5 min video...
Teenager's room turns into Valhalla. Well said sir.
One thing, it was not in 1982 Kirk joined Metallica, it happened in 1983.
Metallica will always be my favorite band, love em
Greatest band that has ever existed. Period.
Huge guys... huge band!! Thanks a lot ando huge hug!!!🤘
7:32 Rob be like "...taco?"
zxxXMETALLICAXxxz 😁👊
Nice job guys. Rock on. _lml
💯 absolutely the best heavy metal band for me. Cant wait to see them in person and with a new album. ❤️❤️❤️❤️
Dave, Cliff, Jason, Ron. Thank you for your contrabution! EEERAA!!!
MetallicA never dies
най-добрата група някога
The Best James!
Metallica-4-life 🎶👍
I liked the direction that the narrative went on this.
best band in the history of music!!!
Felicitaciones Metallica son mi grupo favorito desde niño.........pero no nombraron a Cliff Burton😢
You deserve it guys😎😍😍
the description and the narration was the speech by one of the deep purple band members when they gave the polar music prize to metallica.
'Stream of consciousness'. A dream theater song. That is real song complexity. Still love Metallica.
TheHaunted2 It was also a term first used by a psychologist William James in 1890.
Metallica is not without passion and grace ive seen them live twice and they give a damn about what they put out
metallica forever
yess!!!! they won
I would die for these guys
There is a really deep part of me that is hoping for a First Aid Kit cover of Metallica at the ceremony.
Oh yeah. ... And yes they give my sense of alienation some super power whooôôoohoôôoooou, cause when I am playing, I'm always going through some universe... and through the never .
merecido y mas
me orgullese ser "fan" de esta gran banda hace años!
congrats!! so well deserved
NOT A WORD FOR CLIFF?????????????????????????????????
no mustaine either, Get over it, Cliff has been memorialized. True fans know the history.
The Orion tribute for Cliff day is good enough!
It's an eight minute video to highlight. Not an in depth documentary.
MARIA KARENINA so what?? Cliff is remembered anyway. Sums up the award to be fair
it's the filmmakers and producers who cut it off. it's not Metallica that makes these
Kirk joined metallica in 83
According to this comment i'm writing..Kirk joined the Enterprise in 2264..
Dirkschneider Without James and Lars , no Metallica , and Without Lemmy . IT was James and Lars ambition not Ozzy influence or anything else
Stefan Ionescu Lars was Motorhead and Deep Purple.. Hetfield had Aerosmith, motorhead, deep purple, thin lizzy.. kirk was Page, Hendrix, Aerosmith lead guitarist and michael schenker of UFO..
Congatulations guys!!
sick hat jaymez!!!
Metallica deserved from very long time ago ,hail Metallica
I'm so glad I got to see them play in the 80s, unfortunately not with Cliff, nonetheless, it was a high point of my life
The intro about the band was a little inaccurate, but why raise eyebrows and start controversy. Also, the mention of Cliff Burton and Jason Newsted would have been appropriate. Still, great that they are being recognized for the music they have created, which is no doubt what will make them immortals.
Så jävla häftigt
"Then the pukk-pukk-pukk sounds from Lars's drums happened" is the best thing I've heard all day.
Deben estar felices los metaleros Facionistas estos.
Is the narrator Monte Reid? I still remember his voice from the Filmnet days. :)
Metal gods!...forever...
James looks soo cool in that hat...
Beyondforever....
Well earned 🤘🤘
What the hell is a Polar Music Prize?
Dalebert it is like the Nobel prize for music.
David Wikberg - Oh, OK. Congratulations to the boys then!
i did not know kirk wrote enter sandmans's intro
Umm people saying what about Cliff???, Metallica brought Cliffs parent along to the Rock and Roll hall of fame gala, just because they dont mention him, doesnt mean his not in their hearts!
Death magnetic is soooo underrated
METALLICA!!!!!
1:55: Correction- that was the Black album, not MoP.
This is very welcome my question is now WHO is going to preforme in front of the guys at the cermony.
In flames maby? Ralf Gyllenhammar? This can go either way.
6:20 "...Has anyone created music so physical and furios, and yet still so accessible".
Um
Gojira
No Metallica No Life.. 😘
Anger, James see's Anger in most things. A very tortured soul.
Single in London? Join us on www.london-personals.co.uk
I feel like Kirk just cannot bear to talk about how he came up with the intro to Sandman. Look at his face, he's so over it, it's all people have ever asked him, hahaha.
deutschesmaedchen not the intro. The main riff. But yes. I’m sure he hates that song
Kirk didn´t join in 1982...he join before recording and releasing KEM 1983 Dave Mustaine reached to be in the band with Cliff Burton for a short while
kill 'em all was released in '83. Doesn't mean it was made in '83.
what?? check History on Metallicas website ;)
Why isint rob in the group hug? Makes me sad..
Congratulations guys!!
i hold "kill em all" as metallicas best album
The narrator got the year Kirk Hammett joined Metallica wrong
He said 1982 instead of 1983
Load and Re-Load were okay...but Pantera kept metal alive in the 90's.
lol Nothing Else Matters into Sad But True. - When you have moodswings...
🤘
The Mighty MetallicA!!! Congratulations!
Wait. no hug for Rob??
