I call it the law of diminishing returns. It's like if you get 12 Lewis Hamiltons in race cars and they're all hooked up together then they don't drive 12 times as fast, nor do they exit the starting grid any faster. But there's more power there. In a strange kind of way. In the case of the locos there is also more power so they could pull more stuff than just 1 loco. But not 12 times as much. Maybe 6, 7, 8 or 9. But not 12. It'd be a bit difficult to prove though. But it's out there guys, it's out there.
Its a transfer of locos around the area for weekend enginering work. Some are left at westbury while the others move on to Eastleigh.DBS dont like locos sat around doing nothing at the weekends.
DB don't like locos sat around doing nothing on weekends licke other freight companies so these are deployed on Ballast train dutied, this lot come from Margam and Newport and were used in the Wiltshire area. They come back early hours on Sunday morning and take up their normal duties. When I am on duty, I check them over n Monday mornings
DB freight has to do anything to get out of trouble. Want to buy Arriva? Want to buy DB freight? Want to buy some German DB affiliates and daughter companies? Well, class 66, the cheap us offering that killed off the British locomotive building industry. Not even that good, and in some countries had to be updated a lot before drivers/engineers wanted to man them.
@@hans2406 RUBBISH , don't know what you are talking about, loco £ 1 million each, most done 800,000 miles now , These locos saved the UK railfreight industry
Saw a coal train at Santa Fe junction last week , loaded . it was 23 wagons short of 4 mile and had 5 on the front , 2 in the middle and 2 on the rear . 40 000 horsepower
+Ecce Homo These locomotives were built in London, Ontario. Canada. The plant has been shut down now. Newer class 66 is being built in Detroit Michigan.
Better than the british stuff. It's the whole reason they exist in the first place. If britian could just build a reliable train for once they wouldn't have needed to go to america for a reliable freight locomotive
They're like the number 41 bus. You wait for ages, then a whole bunch of them turn up at once!

if all were to go 100% power, the acceleration would be mad
would it not be the same as 1 going full power on it's own ?
That would cause a bit of track creep wouldn't it

Well shot, nice timing, good use of location sound.
Very nice compilation. Thank, great to watch.
Thx Pete
this is a legendary video the best of all!!! FAB any thumbs up Nick
Very nice movie with convoy of some Class 66s. Its impressive! Without doubt-big LIke and FAV :))
you dont see that very often nice video 5/5
Great Videos
wow never seen that many in a convoy 10 the most i have seen is 7 66's ews thats totaly insane :) :) ;) :)
In steam days a four locomotive convoy was an oddity occasionally seen on old LMS metals aka London Midland Region
Love these engine lash ups.
Really great video thank for uploading this!
Some nice catches
Wow what a sight!
True what they say. When you've seen one EWS 66, you've seen all of them.
The first scene... There was over 1,200 tons of beast in that "little" lot..!!
Are they all going for scrap?
No, being moved around for engineering moves
Its a transfer of locos around the area for weekend enginering work. Some are left at westbury while the others move on to Eastleigh.DBS dont like locos sat around doing nothing at the weekends.
so what your saying is that all these locos are driving around making it look like they are doing some thing
What kind of locomotive scheduling they using?
Wheres the location at 6:55 ?
Nottinghamshire -Trains - 6:55 to 8:15 is in Lockleaze, Bristol, the clip before is below Newton st Loe
@@swearingkevo cheers for that, is it a mainline or a frieght line ?
The more the merrier LOL!
I wonder which ones were actually running?
10 66s on the first one (the engine counts)
0:01- If all of those were on and running at once, the consist would have a pulling power of 33,000 horsepower
Was this convoy because all the sheds had to be painted in DB colours?
No. Being transported to other depots for engineering workings
@@swearingkevo
Ah okay
Excellent
So is it a class 660?
Class 66
@@swearingkevo So when there are 10 in a row is it a class 660? 😉
Why are they travelling in convoy?
Roger Sponge . For engineering trains else where for the weekend
love the video nothing like a convoy but shame we aren't seeing classics like 31 37 40any many more classic British LoCos
matthew peters , regretfully they wear out, cost of on going repairs is greater than new units. Save a unit or two for a museum.
Very enjoyable
👍🏻👀👍🏻
Are they all going to CF Booths???
They run from margam - Eastleigh via westbury where they split . This runs most Saturdays
Unfortunately not
for people who are not train fans if they come to a level crossing they will think wat kind of a train is that
didnt know 66 sheeds liketo convoy
Why are they all running together like this?
They are all being returned to where they are needed after earlier freight workings
I like to think they're pulling the world's heaviest invisible train. ^^
+swearingkevo gotta ask, how can 1 66 be a convoy
Dobry film.

Awesome if they were all powered on and heading a three mile long intermodal or one mile long heavy minerals.

Great video love the class 66 wow!!!
It occurred to me that all of that weight concentrated together wouldn't be good for some of the bridges. 10 locos weigh 1270 tons.
That's nothing to worry about ;-)
1270 tons isn't much in the world of railways.
Divided over 60 axles and nearly 200 meter.

Nice! you have a new subscriber from me ;)
Holy crap that looks mental lmaooo... 69th comment...
I think I would have peed my pants! Wow!
seeing the convoy??
Should be OK with up grades :)
