I took up cycling after 3 months in rehab for alcohol addiction and its changed my life. I've ridden every day for 5 months now and I never dreamed I could actually feel like I do again. I was killing myself slowly before (literally) and now thanks to cycling and pure determination I'm living again! My physical and mental health are both improving daily...cycling is a life saver, for real...

I feel you. I was once like that as well, overweight and in a bad mood. Now cycling has helped me heaps and allowed me to pursue my passion and heal both my body and mind. Cheers and blessing for all those who share their stories of their amazing experience. I would never forget this.

I have lost 20 kilos (45 pounds) in 4 months by cycling. As soon as the pandemic started I turned to biking to manage my stress. I started riding 32 kilometers every day (6am) on my mountain bike but on a paved road, I was still stressed, so I added an afternoon ride (6pm) also for 32k. I ride a total of 64k six days a week and after losing 20 kilos (45 pounds) I'm 5 kilos (11 pounds) away from my target optimal weight. With a sugar-less diet, patience and a twinkle of OCD :) I have managed to keep the riding regimen and loving it.

Cycling is definitely a great way to get in shape like you James I decided to do it because of how much I enjoyed it as a kid. About 4 months ago on March 3rd 2018 i had a massive heart attack they call a widow maker at my home. I was overweight and a pack a day smoker. Before the paramedics could get me into the ambulance i died and had to be brought back to life. I've now been released by my doctor since around the end of May when I went and bought a bike. To date my longest ride is only 25 miles but I'm getting stronger and faster everyday. I average about 15 miles a day now no smoking of course and so far I've lost about 40 pounds.

I lost a hip to chronic alcoholism. I was a fat drunk doomed to die a firery death on a high way. Then I lost my drivers license. I bought a bike to get around, and the rest is history. I am more physically fit now than I was at any point in my life. The non impact nature of cycling allowed me to get into shape full hip replacement and all. And I quit drinking too. Maybe not just because of cycling, but it is a factor.

So many great stories to why you all started cycling. Keep up the great work.
Keep posting your progress. It is up lifting to see I am not alone on my bike adventure.
I had Knee surgery this year after many years of sports that pound on your knees. Also after stopping playing those sports. The weight came on. After the surgery I begged my wife to let me get a bike. I have had my bike 8 weeks and I am losing a Kilo a week (Sorry not sure what that is in pounds). Encourage you all to find a bike shop that has a weekend group going out for a ride. yes you will get dropped by the group. Yes you will feel bad about that. but week in and week out you will stay with the group longer and longer. Until you are apart of the group.

I have had two Giant bicycles in my life. My first was the Giant Iguana, a mtn bike I purchased in Negaunee, MI. I don't recall the model of the 2nd bike. I still have it though. Both bikes were excellent. I currently ride a Scott CR1. A bike I bought because I thought it would be a hoot riding a bike with my name as the brand. Should I ever buy another bike, I will, of course, look at Giant first.
Contrats on your efforts James. I hope that three years on things are still well with you and your family.

Nice video. I weigh 245 Lbs and just bought an eBike. I'm 66 years old and I just picked up the 'Rad Power Bikes' '2018 RadCity'. I live in Minnesota and the snow is almost gone. I loved riding bikes when I was a kid and I'm looking forward to getting some low impact exercise, hopefully losing some weight, and just having fun.

CONGRATULATIONS! It´s really an amazing achievement!
I love bicycling since I was a child. My bycicle was my "horse". I even named it "Tornado" (like the Zorro´s horse). I spent hours and hours of fun "traveling" and "exploring" my neighborhood. Thanks to my bycicle, I developed very strong legs. As an adult, I really enjoy to ride a bycicle exactly like I used to do in my childhood.
I run, and I play basketball in order to maintain my good condition. But bicycling is a rare pleasure, since I live in Mexico City, where our incompetent authorities doesn´t care about green areas. Fortunately, I live near a large university, so I can go around the campus early in the morning.
Recently, I injured myself. The knee, you know. But I have pain in my hips too. I am almost 20 kilos overweight, so I will start to ride my old bicycle from now on. I have a year to lose at least 10 kilos. I am planning to ride every day at 5:00 a.m.
    Wish me luck!
P.D. I LOVE bicycling, but I will never use that ridiculous, tight pants...

I weighed 116 kilos now I'm at 80 kilos! Running 45 miles a week and Mountain biking 100 miles once a week! When one Cycles the mind, body, and spirit form a unity of accomplishment! Sitting on one's ass and becoming a couch potatoe is a stupid irrelevant excuse! Life's to short, enjoy Mother Nature and cycling and the best will come out of you! Take an example, people that have artificial limbs don't make excuses of not cycling or jogging, their psychological mentality is strong and direct! Their aren't any excuses not to cycle or exercise, just use their motivation and strong natured will! Obesity and health related problems go hand in hand! Exercise and nutrition will alleviate those problems! Just my opinion! All the best to everyone who exercises and has strong motivation!

In I got two DUIs in the summer of 1995.
No sob story, I deserved what I got, maybe more. I wont argue.
    I got into cycling.
Read reviews on hard tail mountain bikes, bought biking drawers to wear beneath my cargo shorts, cut the sleeves off some of my t-shirts, bought a oscillating taillight, a 'fishermans' light that fits on the bill of baseball type caps, ankle reflector strips and my life changed for the better.
Ate healthier, not Keto, or pure Paleo, but very little processed foods, no white flour based anything except for the rarely offered slice of cake or pie.
As the weight fell off, my financial AND romance life went up.
Must have had to do with confidence.
I took pride in not needing a car, although I missed motorcycling.

The right bike for you is the one you will ride. I did not like the diamond frame style and went to a recumbent which is far more comfortable and the only soreness would be tired thigh muscles at the end of any ride and any distance and I will still be seated on my bent as it is that comfortable.

A fast commuter bike on craigslist might run you $200-$500. That's what you'll risk locking up, but you'll need get used to bike mechanics some too which is a headache but totally worth it. If you can go in for a NEW bike also you'll encounter less mechanical issues $1000+ aluminum or $2000+ for a carbon but there's no reason to go carbon unless you're racing.
