    Hi! We use various beans and pulses in our Indian cooking and one tip my mum has taught me is to add fresh ginger when you cook the beans, it helps with the flatulence issue.

    I’m so glad to see you back on UA-cam! I am going along on this journey with you. I have been thinking about giving up sugar because I can feel it’s effects immediately after having it. I keep falling off the vegan wagon, so I’m recommitting today. We’ve got this!

    I've combined a couple handfuls of Organic Wild Rice Mix, and a couple handfuls of French Lentils. Wash, and cook. water saute a little red onion, and finish with a dollop of miso. Vegis, and salad occupy the other half of the plate. I squeeze an orange over the salad... over all, really. lol... So tasty.

    Please know that you are so much appreciated by me & my family. Thanks for all you do, we are so determined to get the vegan thing right so that it is a happy journey We also don’t use plastic, no chemical leaching & instant pot only needs 1 cup water in base; no watery results Huge thanks 🙏 l💕 😊 Sarah

    Thanks for this video! I have been vegetarian for 14 years and have included beans in my diet. A couple of months ago I decided to give them up as I couldn't cope with the bloating and gas any longer! I feel so disappointed as I enjoy cooked bean dishes but I will give them a go again a couple of teaspoons at a time.

    I soak my beans in water with some baking soda. It helps to break down the outer skin a bit before cooking. I cook them in plain water. There is a herb called savoury that is supposed to help with digestion. I haven't noticed a difference, but if you're struggling you might want to try it.

    Brilliant! Thank you so much for sharing these tips. I was vegetarian for many years before becoming WFPB vegan over 18 months ago and always have struggled with incorporating them into my diet. I've got a cupboard full of dried beans because I've been so loath to use them in dishes other than hummus. I use a spoonful most days with my meals and this seems okay so far. Thanks again 💞

      @@lizziedripping71 ... you might start with Adjuki beans. Soak, cook in new water. Eat only a tablespoon at a time, no broth. Put a few days between bean meals, try eating them in a little miso broth. Helps the digestive process. Adjuki beans are small. Makes a difference.

    I would like to know why you recommend soaking beans and legumes in glass or ceramic containers, instead of plastic. What is wrong with soaking things in plastic containers? It looks to me as though you thought about telling us why and then maybe decided it would take you off topic for this video, but it could be very relevant, especially to those of us who would probably have to soak things in many different small glass containers, instead of one large plastic one!
    I would also like to know why you used so very little water in your Instant Pot with the beans you were pressure cooking. You might wonder perhaps why I use so much more, of course (which probably has something to do with cooking more beans to start with)! But I am curious as to what your thinking is behind this and the other query I raise above. I'd be grateful if you were able to take the time to explain.

    • @WholeheartedVegan
      @WholeheartedVegan  2 роки тому +1

      hey Amanda,
      Great questions, It's personal preference with soaking the beans in non-plastics, I was told to do this myself years ago and it has stuck! I am sure using plastics is ok, I apologise for any confusion.
      I like to use little water because I find the flavours of the garlic, stock etc are more concentrated in the beans that way. Sometimes I will cook the beans in the pressure cooker, and tip them directly into the meal I am preparing, with the small amount of liquid too.
      If you are going to drain off the water (better for digestion for example) more water would be a good idea.

    • @AmandaJYoungs
      @AmandaJYoungs 2 роки тому +1

      @@WholeheartedVegan Thank you so much. I will continue to soak things in plastic containers then, because that's what I've got. But as these things grow battered and manky (technical term) over the years, and I get rid of them, I'll be replacing them with much less plastic/alternative materials. I worry about some of the ingredients in plastic and whether they might leach into the things I'm soaking (for instance, I use a tap water filter and reusable metal water bottles now instead of buying plastic bottles of mineral water: for cost reasons as well as environmental ones), but since I'm not applying heat to dried beans, just soaking in cold water, I have successfully ignored that intrusive thought for many years, mostly because it would be costly to replace plastic en masse right now with other materials for my bowls etc.
      Thanks so much for the explanations, Natalie. I really appreciate that you took the time to explain. When I ask questions it's not about making a kind of attack on you or anyone, it's because I want to know the answers. Yes, it's all about me, LOL. So the questions come from the right place, even if my asking them might not always read that way! :-)
