Maybe I'm getting old, but I seem to find this new series rather more intimidatingly complex than the prior trilogy. I think I'll need to watch a playthrough to see if it starts to make some sense!
That's unfortunately how I feel about a lot of these 3 minute game videos. I appreciate the brevity of this channel, but I'd prefer more abstract game summaries geared towards "who would like this game?" and less detail on things like turn overview. Full reviews or tutorials seem better suited for rules details, IMO.
I have to admit ... on the basis of this one video, I bought a copy when I saw one recently. Very much looking forward to breaking the game out at my gaming club in a couple weeks.
The primary colours run from right to left, rather than left to right. Which struck me as an odd choice until I realised that arabic is read from right to left. Nice touch.
I have and love gaia and paladin, which one do you prefer between the three? And since i already have two of the same type of game, is it différent enough to be worth getting? P.s. the track made me think of gaia instanteneously as well hehe
Hmmm, nope, not for me. Your review has worked for me in a opposite sort of way 🤔. I'm moving away from these overly complex games these days, and aim for medium strategy but fairly obvious to players. Makes for more competitive game play instead of random turn actions because its hard to link many discrete actions/options together into a coherent strategy.
I'm not here to sell games, i'm here to give people enough info to make a snap decision or decide to dig deeper. If that means that the review puts you off a game for valid reasons, that's job done by me as well :)
Maybe the game is just too complex for my current mental state lolz. Also, the delivery will be on November, so for sure I will shell out money for something I will forget after a week 😆 Still on the fence whether to back it or not. 🤔
@@3MBG so I missed the last hour of backing because I live in Asia haha, time difference. But I knew that I will buy the retail version once out. The KS exclusives are just, meh.
Great review Jarrod! I've always loved the art of this series, which is just beautiful, but I can't help but feel that the dice in the South Tigris line are an eyesore that somehow diminishes the esthetic quality. Am I alone in this regard? 🤔
@@3MBG I think it's just a slight personal bias I have against all dice worker placement games. For instance, I really like the way Rajas of the Ganges plays but seeing all those dice on the table turns me off a bit. Oh well, maybe I'll skip the South Tigris trilogy and wait for the "East" trilogy. 🤷
I hope there is a on the board conversion chart for the dice change mechanic, that looks like it is ripe for confusion. The only other thing I would appreciate would be the ethnic diversity of characters, given the location of the game most figures would not be white.
In the video you might notice a music video clip pop up. Its from sesame street and its ok go singing about colour mixing, that's how i remembered it as my daughter has been watching sesame street. As for the diversity question, i guess it depends on what you mean by white? Because the translators parse as chinese, indian, arab, persian, african and hebrew to me for the most part. None in particular stick out as "western European".
Instant back for me. Garphill Games knocks it out of the park for me every time. and they are a great bunch of people.

No, you are correct. Wayfarers was much more open as well. I feel scholars is quite a bit more focused
This looks interesting but in such a concise summary, it sounds pretty inscrutable.
That's why i always recommend watching a how to play or longer video if you are still on the fence about a game

I’ve seen a 2 player playthrough and gosh that’s dense, but seems reeeally nice. Good job on reducing it to a 3 minutes explanations!

This sounds pretty neat. I bounced off Paladins just because the table footprint was a PITA but I might grab this in retail...

I think its different enough to them both. Paladins was 24th and Gaia project 40th in my top 100 games list last year.

Wow these guys are really pumping out the games! They all look quite decently varied though. Which would be best to try first?
Raiders of the north sea or Raiders of Scythia. It's one of the lower complexity ones and is very good

You are not. But this is also a prototype, im not sure how the final ones will look

Im just not a fan of the transparent secondary dice. The orange ones in particular.
