2019 ZX-6R First Ride | Hot Or Not??

- When I saw the new 636 ZX-6R at Motorcycle Live I was very impressed with the overall look of the bike. Despite being a 600 it looked like a decent size motorcycle for the larger rider. So when Wheels Motorcycles in Peterborough offered me their new demo to try for a couple of weeks I jumped at the chance!
Massive thanks to Wheels Motorcycles, please check out their website below and let me know what you would like me to try and borrow next!

They saved money on development 95% of the bike is 6 years old(arguably older since the 13 is largely based off the 09) Very smart on Kawasaki pricing it like they did, finally a significant gap from the 1000's.
I mean, I bought a 2016 1290 Super Duke R with 4k miles for 2k USD less than the ABS model of this bike. Over double the CC's and more technology. (Other than the quickshifter, but for $250 I could easily install one). In my opinion, the price gap needs to increase further to make a 600 worth it.
@@stormbarnicle Kinda comparing grapefruit to bananas here....new vs. used and a different class of bike. A new GSX1000 is also 10k( base model). So is a Bandit 1250, but we're talking supersport bikes here.
@@stormbarnicle I mean, even if I could afford a litre bike, maybe I'd want a 600 supersport for other reasons. Great deal on the Super Duke though.
@@stormbarnicle your comment may be 3 years old but it's so goofy and low IQ that I had to reply and tell you that a kawi will outlast a POS ktm easily.
10 day test.. lucky man.. good to see 600 class review.. value for money and lower running costs
I have a 99 ZX600 that I have owned since new and never felt the need to update, goes plenty quick enough on the road for this little black duck.
Sadly I never get the chance to ride it much, only done 90,000 Klms in nearly 20 years but still brings a smile to my face when I do get the chance to ride it.
i highly recommend Wheels Motorcycles, recently bought a bike from there and they were very friendly and helpful, even had a follow up phonecall asking if everything was ok with the bike
Just picked up my 2020 ZX6R and posted a video on my channel. Great video Chopsie, really enjoyed it.
Top review mate 😏
This has catapulted into first place for my next bike after this and another UA-camrs review 🤤 💪
Thanks Alex, it a cracking bike mate 😎😎
Great review as 600's aren't getting much love for a good while now. Glad Kwak & Yamaha are persevering too. I think it's a real shame the 600 class has gone pear shaped. The 1000's are great but they're too quick & too expensive for most people. I reckon you can probably use about 75% of a 600 most of the time maybe? I wonder if they may have a resurgence in the not too distant future as the 1000's get faster & more expensive. I'm really hoping Suzuki bring out a new GSXR 600/750 at some point too. I would be so tempted if they did. Speaking of Suzuki's, is there any chance you could get yourself on a Katana in the near future for a review Mr Chops?
1000 in america go for as much as a 600 once they are out for a couple of months
Absolutely agree, a lot of people will simply overlook this bike as it's a 600 and too 'slow" I've given it some welly now and blimey it's fast! As you say perfect for the road. Katana yes will get to ride one soon I hope 👍
@@LambChopRides Great, cheers. Also forgot to mention, I bought a new RSV1000 from Wheels about 10 years ago & their service was absolutely top class from start to finish.
Good to know, I've heard good things about them also hence why I'm happy to work with them 👍
Modern 600’s are in no way slow. You still couldn’t find anything like the limits of this on the road unless your looking to get into serious trouble. The gsxr 750 was/is the perfect balance imho. Don’t get me wrong, I’ve ridden the new Honda sp and the Yamaha R1 and they are glorious, just not sure I’d trust myself to keep the licence intact..
Enjoyed that Chopsie nice one as ever.....and if that's you taking it easy, I'd hate to see you running in a bike aggressively!! Keep 'em coming...... :0)
Thanks matey! Yeah nice smooth run in not sure what you mean... 😏
Two of my heroes together. 😃
For most of us who don’t do track days, a 600 is a much better bet. It’s a lovely looking bike, I’m just not sure about the comfort for longish rides. I may have to give this a little test ride. 10 days of test riding sounds good!
Yes agreed perfect size road bike, but comfort for taller rider could be a problem longer distances 👍
As usual, brilliant, honest review, Chops. Right up my street as a 53-yo coming back to bikes since the 1980s, riding down to the south of France from Dorset on a BMW RS 1000R.
I have the 2010 ZX6R and everytime i ride it its like an adreanaline shot to the heart. It just cant be explained, its just pure fun and love.
Another good one. Look forward to more on this bike. Great the way you review all makes and don’t stick to certain manufacturers. Real world review 👍
Those little screamers are fun for sure ( got a 600 myself) but after putting 30 k on it, I long for something bigger.
It now feels like I'm riding a moped 😂.
Great review, looking forward to the rest of it.
👍👍👍
Yes I'm really enjoying it Chris, out tomorrow to give it some beans now and Im excited 😎😎 it's obviously not 1000 fast but much quicker than I was expecting and I could live with it. But yes perhaps after 30k on one would be looking for something quicker! 😁😁
Love the analogue tach, feel like these should stay on all bikes like this,TFT is cool but still love the old look of a big tach.
Agreed Philip I also love them, can't beat watching a needle bouncing off the red line 😎🙂
I’ve just picked up a new z1000sx ive gone practical , had a zx6r then a z900 now sx be on a goldwing next at this rate haha , sx feels Great so far
Good to hear Ethan, looking forward to testing more Kawasakis as been missing from my reviews 😎
It’s happened 3 times now every time you get a new bike it bloody rains haha! Hoping the weather gets better! I live in Lancashire and work up on the lakes! So hoping the get some good rides out this summer (for the full week we get any sun!) haha
Haha sorry Ethan! Supposed to be decent down my way tomorrow.. hoping to get out on this 😎😎
Lamb Chop Rides , the piston cracked on the z900! Didn’t have a bike for two months manufacturing error was fully covered with warranty etc, have you been on the z1000sx yet? new imu and traction is good has the anti wheelie so gets the power down better, there a lot sportier now finally!
No not yet, hoping too 😎😎
Came back to biking in 2000, bought a 600 J2 with no test ride, scary at first but loved it, it had a great pull for a 600 and the induction roar was great. Actually a great all rounder that was best when pushed..
Good to hear Ian, looking forward to opening it up and seeing what it can do! 😎😎
Killer video ! Just tuned one for a customer Here at Linton Cycle Sales in Indiana! Installed DynoTech commander and auto tune with full Akrapovic header muffler ! incredible torque and acceleration customer is well pleased and made my day test driving beautiful handling bike ! Your right incredible bike ! Little hard on wrist though.
Just bought this today. Can’t wait for delivery !
Wheels are great, got my little CBR125R from them (Leicester wheels) and once I'm ready to move to a bigger bike I'm definitely going to get it from them.
Great to hear, some good feedback from people I'm very happy to work with them 👍
@@LambChopRides I picked up my little cbr straight after doing my cbt and a few hours after I got home the guy who sold me the bike gave me a ring to see if I got home safely :)
Wow that's service! 👍
My mate recently purchased a 2019 rsv4 rf from wheels i just wish i had something good to say about them ! We werent happy put it that way however simon was a great help and cares about his customers which is nice !
I love the analog tach. Even if it’s digital, it should never be a bar style. The old school rounded style is always better.
LCR the front end has grown on me since the NEC
Might pop to wheels to have a look, your welcome to review my R6 😉
Thanks Lee, I do need to try one again!
I've got the Z1000SX and it's a beast. I will be test riding the 636 as soon as the weather sorts itself out just to experience the QS. Great review cheers Chops!
Dave Barker Hi ! I also own a Z1000SX. Did you get a chance to ride the ZX6R? What were your impressions ?
Looks a, beast., havnt been out on my 125 cc. For weeks. Terrible weather here up norf
Good to hear you like it. I love the 6r and I've never fully understood why they get so much stick for being "slow". They are absolutely rapid when ridden properly in the correct rev range. You just can't be lazy like on a 1000. It's a riders bike.
Yes agreed, it certainly not slow! Faster than the 800 nakeds I would say.. it's an absolute screamer with some decent useable torque!
196kg wet, amazing to think the 1000cc Fireblade is the same weight. What I would struggle with is 10k for this or 10k for a used “17 Fireblade / GSXR with run in miles! Looking forward to you showing physical comparison with your GSXR👍
You should definitely get the 2017 cbr1000rr instead you get more value for your money handle like a 600cc bike but it's scary fast
I think this would be lighter by the time you change the exhaust etc. Remember the blade already has a Ti system to make that weight. But yes good point indeed, tough choice.. litre bikes going to cost more to maintain and insure plus fuel costs obviously & really too insanely fast.. Will borrow a blade again from Wheels see how it compares to Blue Thunder 😁
Lamb Chop Rides ya really looking forward to that comparison as the price gap is removed on the used market. 👍
I only ever seem to post on UA-cam about how much of a rip of most new bikes are, but top marks to Kawasaki for getting it in under £10,000. Finally a bike that seems good value 😂
Best reviewer on UA-cam by far 😎
Got a zx6r 636 13 plate awesome bike apart from no fuel gauge 🙄 keeps up with bigger bikes, great video nice bike 👍🏼
I can imagine it does! A 636 ridden properly would keep up with most 1000cc riders imo.. on the streets
I just bought one of these bikes zx-6r 2019 and I love it gotta say for my beginner bike I like it alot
Hey i read that its not released yet until november is that true? I really wanna buy 1 as my first bike too
@@Sjsiisnwbe no bro not true they have been out for a few months already. I bought my bike in Lubbock Texas I live a couple hours
You should try the new zx10r 😉
Didn't know you was so close to Peterborough. Bought my CBR and Superduke from the guys at Wheels.
I'm not Jack, guys at Wheels delivered the bike to me! Top chaps 😍
@@LambChopRides Neither am I, but that's why I keep going back lol! Indeed!
Nice video Chops. I haven't had a Kwak in years. I bought the Ninja 600 when it first went back to a 600cc engine back in..........2007? Anyway, it was totally gutless low down so it's good to see they are improving torque and gearing!
Very good review chops 👌 thanks Danny
Thanks Danny 👍👍
I had the 2013 version with extensive mods,it was fantastic but I ended up trading it for comfort. You can't go wrong with these.
I love 600's: and this new Ninja looks like a brilliant way to get your kicks on the highways & byways. Frankly, I think the power these things produce is more than enough for the road; and those extra ponies, light weight & sophistication will make it all the more enjoyable. Have yersel a blast, Chops! 👍
I do agree Missy Dee, you really don't need more. Still up to 120 before you know it! On a private road of course.. 😏
@@LambChopRides Of course! Thank God for those private roads we all use to see what our bikes are really capable of. 😉
I bought one, partly due to Chopsy's review. Lots of bike for the money, looks good. What's not to like?
After a year I can say it's an excellent motorcycle. Engine is very smooth, easy to ride at slow speeds. If you want to go fast you can. It handles like a 'proper' sports bike, not these high bar soft sports bikes that seem to be all the rage now (CBR650, RS660).
OK, so you wouldn't want to go touring on it, but then it's so cheap you can buy a second bike for that!
Brilliant middleweight isnt it! Give me this over the r6 I think..
can't wait on the next review for zx6r...👍
I've had 4 ZX6R's in my time, in fact I bought one of the very first ones to come into the UK back in 95. Never had the 636 version as they where a little to crouched over for me.......But saying that it's a stonking bike. Looking forward to your next reviews.
The tank looks like it's been caved in for stunting 😂
I did notice that, no wonder stunters love them
It’s so you can tuck in properly without you bangning the chin of your helmet against the tank.
Stunt riding was also part of the r&d as the 636 has been the weapon of choice for years
This is the bike I've wanted for a long time now. Just waiting to get enough to buy one!
great vid I reviewed one of these too ,they are so good and a week later I bought one myself !!
I'm looking forward to your next update 👍
When it was revealed I really didn't like the front end, but it's definitely growing on me. Anyways in January I couldn't resist a superb deal on a 2017 636 that hadn't been sold yet, so I guess I'll do without a fuel guage hahah, and quickshifter :( It's still snowy up here in Quebec and I'm dying to ride it!!
As always, another brilliant video/review....Keep them coming Chops.....
Thanks Dean!! 👍👍
Just think people were saying manufacturers had lost interest in the 600 class. Looks like there back. I'm personally looking forward to Triumphs new 765 Daytona when it comes out.
Awesome awesome vid. It wierd, u can almost see how smooth and comfortable the ride is via the quality of your footage.
Probably wont buy a brand new ninja for my first bike but u never know 😉😅
Hi L.C.R,this is my very 1st time comment at your channel ever.I love your video, all the bikes reviews.
Hope you would have a test ride/review about the 2019 Kawasaki Ninja H2
Thanks matey appreciated, I would love to borrow a H2 and perhaps one day I can.. very hard to get a ride on one 🙁
@@LambChopRides You will,and i'm sure i'll wait till that day😁😁
Good old Wheels - bought my Aprilia there and just up the road as well
This bike will starts sales in Brazil next month. Waiting for the next test ride!! 👍🏾
No matter the downsides, that pricing is bloody great.
To be honest, I had the Woolich map and QS/Blipper on my MT-10 and very rarely used the Blipper, I just prefer to blip it myself so only having a QS is no hardship to me. I would have to remove the baffle though, She's a screamer so let her scream.
I think people get a bit too excited about these kind of toys, I never really felt the need for a quickshifter
600's are not really my thing these days (I treated myself to a brand new ZX6R back in 2008) but it is nice to see Kawasaki supporting the class again, and the 2019 model does look cool. I paid a measly £5600 on the road for mine! Somehow I can't see dealers knocking £2000 off the list price of this one. Oh, and thanks for keep uploading such great quality content, it really is appreciated. :-)
Why not your thing 600s?
@@leevendyback6129 Ultimately I found my ZX6R to be a frustrating road bike. I used to race(many years ago) and like to feel that I am pushing the limits of the bike, I found this to be virtually impossible on the road. Just one example....there was a lovely S bend on a local road to me. On my SV1000 the first section could be taken at about 90mph with the footrest grazing the tarmac, I felt the bike was being pushed towards it's limits. On the ZX6R the first section could be taken at 110mph without any drama. I felt that I could easily go 10mph quicker and the bike was probably capable of a lot more than that. So 'pushing' the bike was difficult and most of my road riding was a disappointment. This is all about where my head is at, not a criticism of the bike.
Wasn't a dig mate just interested in other peoples views. But I get what your saying.
@@leevendyback6129 No offence was implied, or indeed taken. I genuinely love riding all bikes, with the possible exception of cruisers/custom bikes(because they don't go round corners that well) it's horses for courses. My road bike at the moment is a KTM690 Duke R and it's the perfect bike for me but not everyone's cuppa tea.
@@jonnytheboy23 yep came off a Harley funny on a corner now ride 15 R6
Excellent channel mate, great content!
Where would you put your money in the 600cc super sport market?
I’m swaying towards the ZX6R myself after sitting on them all
love the video have got a zx6r 2001 love it such good fun
That outro was awesome! Good to hear that Kawasaki finally geared down a bike lol.
Looks like a fun supersport! Excellent review. It doesn't have the blipper.. how come you don't blip the throttle yourself in that case? It's fun in my opinion. Feels like you're racing, and riding is smoother IMO. Anyways you're significantly more experienced at riding than I am. But one of the first things I taught myself when I bought my first bike the CBR 600 Fri was to rev match. Just became such a strong habit! Never rode a bike with a blipper before, it'd be weird having the bike do it itself. Again loving the channel. Cheers from Wisconsin 🍻
How many times does he say 'I wish it had a blipper' lol. Good video really enjoyed it fantastic bike review seems bang on to how the actually ride 👍
just loved this motorcycle, i'm coming from twins cylinders and i didn't find at all that engine is empty before the red line. It's perfect for road use and it's so smooth. I'm owing a r 1200 r with nearly 12 nm of torque so i know what i'm talking about. It's so comfy also and the ktrc feels mints. I think i will loose all reasonnable thoughs and will buy it
Looks good & sounds good, let us know when you’re taking it back to Wheels, can have a kwacker meet up.
great video. can't wait to see more on this bike. The footage with the new off the bike camera appeared to be very washed out and over exposed.
Nice mate. I also dont understand why every bike doesnt have a fuel guage. Bike looks very modern in the styling... lucky to get 10 days test. Jealous is not the word.
Really nice bike! Akra sounds nice too even with baffle in, deeper not so whingy
Engine break ins are not necessary with modern engines that are machined well within tolerances and many videos have proved my point. I just recommend changing the oil more often in the beginning of an engines life but your still free to ring it out dude.
They are required as the moving parts will need to wear together especially piston rings otherwise you'll get excess oil consumption and less power. No machining process results in a perfect finish.
StreetTriple Mat the very first thing the factory does when they finish engine assembly is rev it all the way to redline and flush the oil. Your engine spins at 15k rpm before it’s even mounted in the bike. Any burs or machining flaws are well worn off before you get around to riding it.

Hi LC 👍🏻 always enjoy the 600cc super sports reviews they seem to be a forgotten bike these days. I’m a massive fan of the 636 imo there great bikes and this 2019 looks like another gem 💎. Ive actually just sold my Daytona 675R and brought a 16 plate Zx10R winter ❄️ edition although ive not actually taken delivery as yet as having a scorpion de cat link pipe and an Arrow pro race titanium exhaust fitted. Also having the ecu flashed to run along with the full titanium exhaust it now has the flash also unlocks the auto blipper on the bike too 👌 so really can’t wait to get my hands on it now!!
Oh that's going to be a weapon Adam! I bet you can't wait 😎😎
Lamb Chop Rides you’re dame right mate but it’s my first litre bike so gotta go steady to start with
Try something different like the retro Z900RS, not really your style but then again you have been seen on a GS.
Yes I would like too 👍
Kawasaki does good development last years... Good quality, lighter products, usefu suspension, better optic and absolut fair price level. So sad that it doesn't comes with a blipper... :)
All companies should bring 7-900ccm midclas sport bikes for fair prices... So nice engines on the market right now, mt-09,765,790,gsx 750....
My 2005 ZX12-R had a fuel gauge chops, so too right why today do we still get bikes without ?? No need.
That performance version you're on is 10k more than the standard!
can't wait the end of break in to see the top end power of this bike
130 hp is plenty of fun for the road!
Agreed Neil absolutely is!
dont need a bliper its great to rev match yourself
Came here to say this. Be your own blipper and you can bang down the gears fast.
@@kleinbottled79 Right!
Yeah if someone wants an auto blipper they should rather get a sport tourer not a sport/supersport bike
@@vali69 Aww that might be a bit extreme. Blipper isn't bad tech for sport bikes, just not a huge advantage if one learns proper technique. (Which is worthwhile and fun! Perhaps that was your point?)
@@kleinbottled79 kinda lol unless u have a top of the line bike you shouldnt really worry about these sort of stuff and focus on learning proper technique
I don’t fully dislike the headlight but it just kinda reminds me of a chinese knockoff bike, or those indian modified hondas. Doesn’t seem as quality to me
Really good video as per tho
Great review. I love this Ninja
Take out a Z900 ??? That would be a good review for a road based bike
this costs 15 695€ in finland...
did you test the 2013-2017 version? Did you see differences?
I'm sure as it's a demo bike that they've changed the oil from thin run-in oil to the proper stuff 👍
Hi mate would you recommend this for a first big bike or would it be to much power even if you take your time on it and wanted to grow with the bike cheers and great review as always stay safe 👍
Love my 2018 Ninja 400, but after 3k miles I am dreaming of the 2019 zx-6r.
Funny, I upgraded to the 2019 zx6r 3 months/3000 miles after getting my Ninja 400. Well worth the upgrade!
That's great to hear, I will be doing the same but I am going to wait until May which is my birthday month, will be a gift to myself. I'm really excited and watching a lot of videos on the 2019 zx6r, yet will be sad to let the N400 go (can't afford to keep both). Already shopping for a slip-on for the zx6r.
Any inside info on a v4 monster or street fighter anytime soon ,nothing on google yet?,I want somthing with the gorgeous ride of the 1200r but with the shit yourselfvtop end of the tuono ,im hoping the v4 monster will be just such a weapon and if it does materialize please review it chops :)
ZX-6R. Good Bike.
It would be great to see a review of the R1 :)
nice video, just got this bike and love it.
The 636 is a fantastic bike, would be on my shopping list if I could do the racing crouch still! :-)
It a bit uncomfortable on the wrists, it's my only criticism really.. absolutely stonking bike
@@LambChopRides my back can't do the crouch anymore either (broke it 10yrs ago and is not so flexible)
The narrowness of UK roads freaks me out. The oncoming vehicles passing so close almost makes me flinch at times. This would not work in the U.S. with so many idiots looking down at screens and drifting over the line.
chopsy, can you review the gsxr 750?
are you using external mike for the exhaust sound ?
Great review, as always. Just one question though, does it have a blipper?
My parents really want me to save for a car but I really want this motorcycle!! I don’t know how to convince them for me to buy one.
DOOM Slayer I would say get a car first since carrying things and riding in the rain and snow can be rough sometimes but if you really want it then save your money for it and buy it. If you earned the money it’s yours to spend how you want
Great vid - out of interest are you wearing one-piece leathers under the jumper?
Thanks J, yes had my two piece leathers on. Jumper to keep the chill out as was only 11 degrees
BLIPPER ?.........Surely part of the skill and enjoyment is blipping your own throttle.... and timing your down changes perfectly ?....Yours Sincerely ....Stuck in the Seventies.
Lively wee bike I prefer this colour aswell - although as said above 9k on this or 10k on a 2017 gsxr1000r 🤔
What did you think of the Bridgestone b22’s?
Could you please do a review of Ducati 959? I’m same height as you and want to see your view on the ride situation and comfort ( relatively ) and comparison overall with this Kawasaki
Theres plenty of other reviews on that bike. It's super hot and uncomfortable, but it is super pretty.
Have you moved to Cambridgeshire? I thought you were south coast, I'll have to ride out and see then one day its not a huge distance from Norfolk, got to see if I can get a ride in a ZX6r at my local dealers, I've always lived them and really want to try this one, hopefully they won't mind that I can't afford one l Iol
No still on the south coast they kindly delivered the bike to me 🤩
Where is that stretch of road? I'd love to ride it!!!
Hey man! Is it a slip-on or full system on the bike!!! It has very nice and deep sound!
Just a slip on
Hi Mr Lamb Chop !! Great channel !
I ride a Z1000SX and im thinking about getting a supersport. Rode the GSXR 600 a few years ago and loved it.
Thinking about the GSXR 1000 or the ZX6R whats your thougts?
Both great, I own the new GSXR and do love it an awesome bike. I do quite fancy a middleweight however as they just seem more fun on the road as you can use the engine fully.
Lamb Chop Rides Thanks ! Was thinking the same thing. My GSXR 600 was very easy to ride.
Leaning towards the ZX6R.
Not a fan of the new look. only grudge i have. Would take the 13' anyday over this
Yes I guess it is a marmite bike for looks. Personally really like it, looks good in this stealth black but do feel a full green one is needed being a Kawasaki
@@LambChopRides i guess the biggest issue is the similarity of it to the 400.
I think you said 196kg wet but that is with the full tank according to their site.
