Hey Jack don’t know if you know on the left of the hand set yellow button will give you a touch useful at night as most of our freezer compartment light don’t work either lol am a driver at Asda Wrexham.
Of course, first definitely get to know your vehicle height, width, length and weight. Some bridges may be 3T but fully laden you may be almost 3.5T or they may be too narrow so keep an eye on it. Second get a feel for how it handles, how much steering you gotta put in to turn and so forth. Third try stick to hugging the white line of the road to start with so you don’t curb the vehicle on turns and so forth and when taking narrow turns just slow down a bit and watch the back end, if you have an overhand it will swing out slightly so keep an eye on any other vehicles around when turning.. other than that, it’s like a big long slower car.. so you should be okay. :)
Hey Jack new here, recently started driving at Ocado and hoping to move up to LGVs eventually. It's interesting to compare the similarities and differences between the 2 companies
Jack, what about delivering in the dark? Do you need a head torch? Also winter hand wear, i presume you need the dexterity of your fingers to operate your gizmo, so are fingerless gloves the order of the day?
I have a head torch and gloves.. the store gave me a beanie hat with a light built in it but I lost it. The gloves they gave me aren’t the warmest, quite thin, but they let you use your PDA device without any issues thankfully so it is not too bad. If you wanted you could wear fingerless, up to you. I hope the heater works in your van, thankfully all of ours do.. just no AC for the hot months!
Do you load when you start ur shift and then again when u unload/load for next shift?, At Tesco we don’t load our first run, only for whatever comes after us
I work for Sainsbury's and we get out vans loaded for us :) lol... arrive n drive, we just check its strapped down, vehicle check then off we go.... mangers are absolute pricks though
I deliver for Iceland. We have to pull out the chilled and frozen. Do a creat count to make sure everything is there. Print the loading sheet out, load up and then do a van check. We are also expected those do this in 16 minutes with an additional 5 minutes for a van check
i just started driving for Morrisons, I done 2 days training then I was out myself, tonight will be my 5th shift. We drive 24 plate merc's, very nice and comfortable to drive id say. I live in the countryside so i do a lot of driving which is perfect for me. We do on average about 10 drops a shift, sometimes more, sometimes less.
@@JackDelivers yeah they do! I might start doing my own POV drives, I want to get a pair of the RayBan Meta glasses to record me driving. I’m just not sure how Morrisons would be regarding that.
Haha, nice. I just use a gopro for mine I dug out.. works alright, not as discreet as camera glasses though! You’d just have to speak to them, check your contract and company policy. My management are aware or my videos and as long as I’m doing my job correctly and not delivering late they have said at present there isn’t a problem.
I've got an interview for this role soon, i have a question that i don't want to ask at interview, but i thought I'd ask you... Toilet breaks? You 20 minutes from the store and you need a tinkle?
Perfectly reasonable question! As like any driving job mate it’s a case of getting to know where the nearest toilets are on your route.. such as Mcdonalds, Costa Coffee, service stations, etc. if you do split runs you will get a moment when you come back to have your break at the store when you reload to go back out.
So officially there is no requirement by ASDA to go to the flat door if it is up multiple flights of stairs, the driver can refuse for a number of reasons but main one being risk of injury / unsafe conditions. Some drivers have health conditions that may prevent them from doing so. If there is an elevator however then it will be taken up. It all depends on the driver but officially (if you look online you can find news article about it) as long as it makes it to the front door of the flat block it has arrived and the customer could be expected to come down and help take it upstairs.
Hiya mate just curious as im looking to change jobs myself, if you join as a delivery driver and wish to progress your driving will the company pay for it or is there a scheme or something, cheers?
Me, also an Asda driver, watching this in said Asda van at work ;)
Doing the exact same thing 🤣
With the totes, do you load the the higher delivery numbers first and the lower delivery numbers after (closer to the door).

Just finished my first solo shift, really enjoying it but flat's are brutal. Definetly won't need a gym membership. Great Content mate 👍.
It’s the Gym of life…😂Stronginthearm…💪.
Flats are a killer. Had a full van one night. 25 deliveries and 8 of them were flats and tower blocks. Impossible to do in a 16.30 to 10.30 shift.
Houses who order a ton of stuff with no parking should be instantly banned 😂
How did you manage to take a dolly out with you ... Champion on a short, flat walk with loads of totes !
jesus a working lightfoot! not seen one of them for a long time, we got 8 vans, i think only like 4 of them actually work! lol
I need to enter my weekly competitions!! 😂
Consider yourself lucky, lightfoot sucks, all my homies hate lightfoot

As a loyal asda online delivery customer I'd like to say thanks for all your hard work that you do xx ❤
Just resigned from Asda Dagenham couldn't get a trolly or a clean van ie spilt yoghurt in fridge days or weeks old so sad enjoyed the job.

What tips can you give on how to adapt to driving a van? For someone whos only drove cars. What tips can u give turning etc

Asda still doing the Tetris style vans but at least most are Automatic (Broom Bruum) 😶
Get your hgv license mate and you will have easier life than that
Is there fulltime for drivers

Yes we get in, do the van checks and load. Go out do the run, get back unload, load the next one go back our come back and unload again. :)
@@JackDelivers I didn’t realise we had it so easy 😅 if we’re on a late we don’t need to do anything other than unload when we’re back and go.

Fellow ASDA driver here from Edinburgh. Enjoying your vids m8. Just wondering if you have vans that are falling apart and a lack of trolleys? Lol
How do u open the body door? Is it a key every time and how do u know it’s closed properly?
Cool videos Jack. Are Sundays one of the busiest days?
I was thinking about applying but the shifts are Sat evening, Sunday 1-10 and a Monday evening.
Depends on where you work mate but to be honest no day is normally any busier than the other where I am.

Jack what do you do in situations where the customer is like 5 floors up are you sposter take the deliveries to them or ?

Yous have to load your own vans?
We certainly do!
How do u know which delivery to do first?
It's on the Zebra Palm. The route is pre-planned for the driver.
How do you know where to put the trays when loading the vans?
By the labels on the end of each tote (tray)
@@studarbyshire3851 I guessed that, no scanning them in like I have to do 😢
are you signed up to lightfoot rewards and have you won anything?
I am signed up.. but I am not that lucky no!
How long dose it take to load a van? 45 mins?
Half van load about 15 mins. If you go out with a full van it can take about 30 mins to load the van.
