A short shift - ASDA Delivery Driving
hello mate I like the videos, was the asda van automatic?
i was a home delivery driver for morissons, i also quit to pursue getting to hgv license. In 6 days i start my hgv training :D
Nice video, btw, what gopro do you use? ~Fellow Asda driver
Will u be doing class 1 vids
When I get the opportunity to do so, I plan on it yes.
@ great
great video, ive been watching your videos for a few weeks now, im also from tamworth so i know some of the areas. by looking at your profie picture are you a binman now? i am myself at tamworth council
Hi mate, you’d be correct. Well for the last 6 months I’ve worked for 2 different councils, neither of them are Tamworth but I am a driver for a local council just south of the county. I see a lot of the Tamworth / Lichfield ones at the tip site we use every day!
Hi got a question how do you load the van so you know which crate to pick to the customer? Thanks
Congrats on your license! Good luck in the future 🎉
When I left college I had the idea of becoming a delivery driver. When I saw the age you could be a bus driver I changed my mind and I love driving these large vehicles! I have been debating doing my Class 1 for the fun of it in the future to then complete my licence at such a young age. Good luck for the future in HGV’s!!
Just want to say thank you for all the deliveries you have done for ASDA for folk like me who cant leave the house its been a godsend
Trucks is where the money is at, this only good to get experience
Aye but class 1 has mental and physical impacts on your health. Just got out after 20 years tramping, have to otherwise you may aswell drive vans and get a slightly lower wage for 10x less stress
@ yeah I wanna get into van driving, like jobs were you can do the work by yourself
Great video Jack, all the very best in your new venture 😀👍
Going to miss these Asda videos. I work as an ocado driver and not gonna lie, had my eye on Asda. Congrats on your hgv license 🎉
How long do you have to have your drivers license before you can apply for this delivery job at Asda
I think it's 1 year driving experience for most
Yep that’s right!
I did the same, resigned from Sainsbury's home delivery. To be honest it was a great job for me whilst a student.
I just started sainsburys home delivery. i'm a former amazon driver. have to say my new job is probably better
I agree as a student I found it a great job at ASDA.
Good job mate! I've pretty much been looking to follow that same path: 'passing car driving test > car driving > Superstore Delivery (not yet got) > Class 1 Currently work remotely, but I'm looking to try ASDA/Iceland/Tesco Delivery. Any tips for the Delivery Driving for a Supermarket would be greatly appreciated. Good Luck with the Class 1!
I work for Waitrose and it’s amazing, depends where your based, avoid sainsburys I worked for the home delivery for them before and it’s just not good where I was l, Waitrose has the most stress free work. I get usually have 8-14 drops in a 8 hour shift long drives. They are almost all the same but Waitrose imo tops them.
And also iceland you’ll have to load the van by your self, same with Asda and Tesco depending on the size of the Tesco usually Tesco you get your van loaded though. Pick the right Waitrose and you’ll be happy.
@@slyrz6699 Ahh thanks bud! I live in Northern Ireland, so I'd have to have a good look. I do have an ASDA, Iceland and Tesco locally though. Appreciate it!
I work for sainsburys ... but same goes for any delivery driving jobs... be sure to tell the employer in an interview, you know its not just about going out driving around... its representing the company, its all about customer service...
@glenndonnelly511 I'm a supermarket delivery driver in Northern Ireland if you want any tips or might be able to help with stores depending on your area
Applied few weeks ago still waiting to hear back :(
Hopefully soon! 🤞
I give it a week before someone gets heavy handed with it and breaks the screen 😂 we have 21 and 22 plates at 4831 and 63 vans are broke and we are due new vans next year and dread to think what we are gonna get
All basic version van don’t have a/c. I have a vw caddy startline, it has touchscreen but no a/c
Do you get many extras or do you have enough drivers to cover all printed runs most of the time? Also delm8 is a good app to use if you’re not dispensing the orders straight away if you’re doing them earlier than allowed.. Finally what app were you using when microlise was down for a while ?
Not usually many XTRA, usually about 3 or 4 but they are always printed on the driver sheet so we know where we are going. When microlise was down we just used our phone SatNavs for the addresses we didn’t know but thankfully my runs were pretty consistent so I know where the addresses were regardless, just manually checking to make sure I had taken off all the totes at the correct address and writing returns on my run sheet.
At tesco we average 30-34 a day
No air con in a 74 plate vehicle is crazy
Give it 6 months before its wrecked lol
That long? Saw a brand new amazon prime van today. Smashed all down the drivers side. It would be so bad but, it's not even the blind side!! Same as Royal Fail (sorry royal mail) their vans all have dents, scratches or dulled paintwork after 3 weeks. It's almost like their party piece.
I give it 2 days before ones hit lol
We just had 2 new PK74's in, haven't had the chance to drive one yet. We have one 73 plate which is lovely to drive, can't wait to try one of these!
I’m a student trying to apply for this role really want to do it, have 3 years in retail and one year working for amazon how hard is it to get accepted??
Not hard
That’s plenty mate as long as you’ve had your driving license for over 1 year and some relevent experience and would be comfortable using a PDA then all good.
Which store did you deliver out of?
i can't wait for the future videos and good job for passing class 1
I love how having car play is a luxury, Tesco vans have had car play for years in both mercs and ivecos lol still no A/C mind
I feel sorry for you guys. At Waitrose, all our vans come with Apple CarPlay, electric handbrakes and air conditioning as standard. 😅. But then again, our vans are owned not leased so we can take optional extras.
And we can go in the back of the vans when it’s raining
Just found your video and you are awesome wish you would deliver in Sheffield I am disabled and asda won't bring shopping to the flat door mate you seem very friendly to the customers
Thank you for the lovely comment, that doesn’t sound too good! A shame Sheffield is a little far afield from me aha. :)
We just had 2 of these vans at our Swansea store
Fellow Asda Swansea employee lollll
All they needed to do for a simple air con was to run a pipe from the freezer in to the cab, stick a small fan at the cab end of pipe, and a switch for the driver to turn the fan on or off- and it would simply blow air from the freezer in to the cab
I used to work for another food delivery company and they also didn’t have air conditioning I said exactly the Same thing
That would mean additional expense of retro-fitting equipment that will ultimately break. I worked for Evri and their trucks (class 1 and 2's) had aircon, but none of them worked. It wasn't a case of the fuses for them being removed, they literally broke as the pumps for them run literally all day when the engine is running (up to 18 hours a day, 2 shifts). Even the enterprise merc sprinter that I hired in 2013 didn't have air con at all. It's like a £2800 option on sprinter vans, crazy expensive, and when it does go wrong it's crazy expensive to put right.
Gutted for you bro we got A.C in our new ones
who?
Enjoying your videos! How old are you and how old were you when you got your HGV license?
I would’ve got my HGV Class 2 license when I was 20, I only just got my Class 1 now at 22. Still very new to everything.
How long does it take to have the decals installed?
Absolutely no clue mate.
Why do none of the vans have AC?
To save money for the supermarket. That few pence they save on fuel the poor workers can have to sweat in the summer lugging shopping about and collapse in a heatwave. Nice companies hey
Tight and don't really care about drivers
@@recall2880 have to admit I had to return to store and abandon my run the year before last due to the heatwave and no air conditioning in the van. Probably would have collapsed if I'd carried on.
@soundworksvectra It’s a must now. I just gives you those few minutes between jobs to cool your body down again. I had a similar job and without it I would of passed out
@@recall2880 absolutely. It's all it would take. I could do the drop in any heat if I had a cool cab to return to
Some of our 71 plate vans have apple CarPlay
Not new. Our store has 2 73 plate vans with car play. But a cool feature.
So we have new 74 plate Iveco's we don't have car play any more or limiter/cruse control. all our mercs that we used to have had car play and limited man I miss our merc aha Apparently the reason we don't have air con is because of the tank for fridge/freezer unit is where the air con tank would be. I work for tesco as a driver I wish we didnt have the side steps like you dont they are a big pain
You don’t have cruise control or limiters on a new van? That’s awful, I only drive these things using that now! Especially on the A roads and Motorways!
New van looking well! That infotainment system looks mega compared to our old FWD 71 plates with the stock radios in 😂 Loving the sleep token hoodie, got the same one myself!!
Maybe you’ll get a new one soon! And yes, awesome band. Was lucky enough to see them the other week live, brilliant!
Love your content, I left the same Asda delivery job in October because I've found out the hard way how this job can suck in major cities during the wet/winter period. Constant tripping up on slippery surfaces and shitty apartment floors, I'd only reccomend this job during the summer period where its nice outside. Stay safe out there during this period! :)
The best feeling to heading back after your last drop knowing your done. Even better if you have no putbacks/returns.
I want to see what you’re like with the customers. I would ask everyone the same questions. Are you ready for Christmas? (No matter what time of year it is). At least it’s not raining. What’s the other drivers like? Which store do you think I’m from? The Easter eggs are in the warehouse ready for the shelves. The responses were so funny.
I think be good if the SDS would be more accurate when delivering to people houses i work for Tesco and we did get a update but its not very good to be honest what do you think of it
Great to see how other supermarkets do it. At WR, we usually average between 15-22 drops on a route. The max our vans can take are 156 crates. Typically out for 6-7 hour runs.
I hope you defected that van for its broken lights? most drivers cant be arsed sadly.
I definitely filled in a defect sheet I can tell you that much.
love the vid mate, microlise being down was a nightmare.... 🤣
Why do they split 15 drops into 2 runs?
To make you working 182828228 hours... :D
Basically more orders can ‘drop’ for your 2nd load. The order cut off time for the first one is usually before mid day and then the second cut off point is around 2-3pm, so if you start work at 2pm go out for your first run what might have been 5 planned on your 2nd may now be 7/8 planned. Basically more orders can be received for the 2nd run that’s why it’s split.
Training last week on my new job in the ice and snow, with no Microlise...first day flying solo today and I was given the palm to use....or should I say teach myself how to use 😮 but I survived the day and quite enjoyed myself... A fabulous trip around the Northumberland national park, chatting to lots of lovely people and taking in the magnificent views... Thanks for your videos and responses to my questions, you really helped me 👍
Sounds great! Thank you! Lovely scenery around there, I hope you enjoy it. The ice and snow with no microlise isn’t an ideal combo… especially for the buddy runs! But hopefully you’ve picked it up, the palm is pretty self explanatory when you use it once or twice. :)
someone shoulda shown you how to use the microlise before going out by yourself. if you are on the device or have the app on your phone (microlise) once you are logged in you can click on the three lines on the top right hand corner and then click on "documents" and "Microlise driver guide" has a bit of general info no there anyway. just remember not to go within 350 yards of the customers address more than 19 min early :P (until youve learned how to beat the system anyway haha) .
@@brillsmith2207 getting the hang of it now, thanks... Yeah deffo could've done with a bit more training, I want to look professional to customers, not stand like a prat on the doorstep saying "I don't know" or "I'm not sure" to questions, felt like I'd been hung out to dry a bit... Never mind, steep learning curve and all that
Mercedes not s##ty transits. 👍
Hi nathan nice content, coming from a C1 driver it’s vital you move if they don’t merge correctly on slip roads, not worth the hassle and as my TM always says if you don’t move you’re the cause of the potential accident.
