Yes, upgrading to firmware v4.0 is recommended by the manufacturer.
fx3 user... does anyone know if "RAW OUtPUT" should be on or off when using an external monitor to measure exposure but NOT record externally?

what is a good audio setting when using a shotgun mic on the fx6
depends on what you are filming and what sort of mic you're using. The camera offers plenty of adjustments. We normally stick to the stock settings and make sure audio is not clipping. Hope this helps,
As an FX9 owner, I seriously wonder why a camera that costs twice as much as the FX6 has a much more limited feature set compared to the FX3 and FX6. The mere fact that I can't even output the RAW signal via the SDI output, as the FX3 and FX6 and even my Alpha 7s III can, but that I need a bulky attachment for this, is an indictment in itself. I love my FS700 and the Alpha, but the FX9 is an unnecessary, annoying, downright bad camera.
Maybe it's time to upgrade to the BURANO in this case? We are running a hands-on day next week, you're welcome to register and see if an upgrade to your FX9 would be the right fit for your productions.
