Yesterday a situation occurred in which I could plainly see that a big part of my identity is lost forever. I felt so much grief indeed. By now, the mind has picked it up and is creating a new identity around that. Sneaky bastard!

    Awesome!!!
Angelo, I need you to clarify something for me :) What has been tripping me up for eons has been this looking for "pure Awareness", "The Self", "I am sense" etc. as if it is somehow separate from direct experience.... I have been looking really really fucking hard, for a long time, and I have not been able to find anything that is aware of experience. Whenever I look really closely in deep states of concentration for this "something", that is apparently supposed to be separate from direct experience, all I can find are phenomena that are spontaneously arising and are intrinsically aware of themselves as they arise and wherever they arise. The sounds are aware of themselves, the thoughts are aware of themselves, tactile sensations are aware of themselves, the intentionality of trying to locate "pure awareness" is aware itself etc.... It seems that the nature of experiences are to be aware of themselves however they arise, there is nothing aware of them, they are just aware of themselves by the nature of them arising spontaneously. I cannot find this "Awareness" that is supposed to be more fundamental than the experiences... Should I just trust in this "knowing" that there is nothing aware of experience except for the experience itself and just rest in that without looking for something "more" or should I keep trying to find this "Pure Awareness thing" that has eluded me for years?
    Thanks ;)

My ego dropped past weekend during an advaita retreat. My first awakening (two years ago in the illusion) was the experience of beingness/consciousness/i amness. My second awakening (which happened past weekend) was about deeply realizing beingness is also a kind of experience and what I am is simply not an experience. It's as if I see through the eyes of death. Every moment now is like an explosion of no-thing-ness. It's amazingly beautiful. Does this align with what you are saying in this video, Angelo? I also want to add that there is still a sense of an individual, like a localization of some sort, through which experience is perceived, but there's no identification with that individual's ego anymore, nor with its body.

@@SimplyAlwaysAwake i can't fathom no Self. No Self implies no caring about Self (no love). It doesn't just seem sad, it also seems impossible.
Radical non duality speakers seem to speak the very essence of contradiction. They say there is no Self, but all they talk about is what it's like being a self. Self can't be denied. It's everything. What can be outside of One awareness? What can be outside of the kingdom of God?

@@karlskaret275 A body-mind still cares about itself after it loses the sense of self, which is the sense of being a subject or an experiencer. There’s nothing about experience that requires an experiencer. Teachers like Angelo talk about what experience itself is like, not about what it’s like to be an experiencer.
Btw, I don’t know why you posted this as a reply to someone’s comment instead of directly on the video.

    • @karlskaret275
      @karlskaret275 Рік тому

@RyanBowcutt there's that contradiction again "a body-mind still cares about "itself" after it loses the sense of "self."
I responded to the comment because Suzanne Chang who was mentioned contradicts herself like this.
What about all the awakening Angelo talks about. It's all nonsense if there is no Self. Yes everything is whole and complete. Nothing really awakens. But there is an undeniable sense of Self. Not dualistic. One Self. There is a reason that although radical non duality speakers say there is no self, all and only what they talk about is what self or "not self" is. Self cannot be denied. Divine Self is everything. How about experiencer doesn't need experience if you are struggling with non duality concept? We are really talking about "you" and "i" here aren't we? Otherwise there wouldn't be talking.
      Sorry I get rambling.

can you do a video on how awakening & enlightenment relates to or affects having and raising children and a family (and wife)? I am 22 years old and there is a lot of fear, doubt, and worry about what I might do in the future (like leave my children or family) for the sake of awakening & enlightenment. I have been really trying to feel the emotions, but they're still at my door. Is there any way you can help me out? I just need more confidence that I will be able to live a typical life (family, wife, kids) without leaving them like the Buddha did (albeit prior to enlightenment). this fear and doubt about myself has been affecting my relationship. i would really appreciate it ❤️

I think the strong motivation to leave home that I described in my original comment was part of a strong spiritual ego or something like that.
I'm still a "layperson" but I'm not in the same relationship anymore and the fear about leaving home if I did have children in the future is a lot softer or weaker.

Angelo is the insight you’re talking about in the first part of the video - the shift when thoughts get much less important and quiet and beingness is realized/experienced deeply - is that initial awakening or something else? When you know fundamentally that beingness / quietness is here even when there is doubt? Not getting caught in a thought world like before? These awakenings seem so different for different people. Mine aren’t usually big bangs but little cuts in identity that accumulate then the self is a lot lighter.

Its interesting youre talk of the I am. I think I am is the language we have for it. From my experience i may also use the phrase “existence being in the place of itself”. Or like the transcendent existence knowing itself which is in that moment directly realized as not separate from you. Hence the “I am” that both includes you but is also non self referential.

Hm. I am confused. Is it possible to have had this realization without actually knowing what it was? I had a realization of the "I am sense" a couple of years ago after spending approx. 6 months nerding out on Rupert Spira and the whole "being aware of awareness" thingy. Didnt really seek enlightenment. Just wanted to know what he was talking about. And suddenly out of the blue I got this stunning realization that I was aware of being aware. And after that I kinda walked around in awe for a few days looking at the trees and the birds etc. But then I kinda shook it off and moved on with my life. I didnt see what the big deal was and there wasnt anything particulary to gain from it (my thinking back then). And now this video brought this simple message back home to me (I think). Im aware. Aware of everything like thoughts, feelings, no thoughts, anger, pain etc. Nothing ever will change that. Thoughts come and go (bla bla bla) but Im always aware. Tried self inquiry but I cant find anything. There is nothing there. Was still looking for that "aha" moment but it never came. Its just this sense/awareness of this "thing" and nothing more. Any pointers on this story of mine as Im still kinda looking/seeking. I am aware but so what? lol.... Anyways, love your videos:)!

I am / Consciousness = Illuminated vision of reality?
*The Mystic Way 10: The Dark Night of the Soul - Jessica Davidson*
... The great contemplatives, those destined to attain the full stature of the mystic, emerge from this period of destitution, however long and drastic it may be, as from a new purification. It is for them the gateway to a higher state. But persons of a less heroic spirituality, if they enter the Night at all may succumb to its dangers and pains. This 'great negation' is the sorting-house of the spiritual life. Here we part from the 'nature mystics,' the mystic poets, and all who shared in and were contented with the illuminated vision of reality. Those who go on are the great and strong spirits, who do not seek to know, but are driven to be."
