Coolest band in the world, they totally rock & folk traditional & experimental you name it they slam it, & are more genuine than 99 % of the bands today ;-D
Ian Lynch's voice reminds me of a roughed up Johnny Moynihan and the way the band performs this song actually reminds me of a delightfully roughed up version of Sweeney's Men (& a woman). Lovely stuff.
you prolly dont give a shit but does anyone know a trick to get back into an Instagram account? I somehow lost the account password. I appreciate any tips you can give me.
@Zayn Yousef I really appreciate your reply. I found the site through google and I'm in the hacking process now. Looks like it's gonna take a while so I will reply here later when my account password hopefully is recovered.
I arrived at this video after listening to Old Blind Dog songs (a strong favorite of me). But I'd loved this- just good folk and strong tone. I live in Texas and have been playing some Scot tunes for years. Lankum should give Texas a visit. I play at a Celtic festival in a few weeks with my band, Shillelagh! - and you guys would rock it if you were there. Seeing this festival causes me to want to check it out.
Fantastic stuff. No one likes to see anyone lose their job but there is always an exception to every rule😊 And to think that this was thankfully one of the last anti recruitment songs from the hundreds penned in Ireland over the centuries. Let's sing in jubilation indeed.
can you give me the liryks of your version of Sargent William Beily .......? every version I find, has a part of the song missing: the second verse you sing .
Wow is the first time I heard his name, if you have the way to send me some material about him, I'll be very happy to listen it some times here in Roma we have Lyam O' Kelly, he comes from Dublin and sings trad songs , it's a firend now every time he comes here in Roma to play in Pub I love to listen way he sings :-)
No, he's doesn't use email or anything like that, but there's plenty of videos of him on youtube. The lyrics to the verse are; 'Now as Sergeant William Bailey on Dunphy's corner stands, enticing Dublin young lads for to die in foreign lands, for to improve their station, he shouts in high elation to come and fight for king and country, but for all the noise he's making, the bait they aren't taking, from Sergeant William Bailey tooraloo....'
This band can do better ..Saddens me to think Dublin people have such short memories, and scorn the fallen. If it wasn't for sergeant Bailey and the quater of a million volunteers who signed up, you'd be singing that in Deutch now, twice over... no... you wouldnt be singing at all... your bones would be ground into a powder for some Luftwaffe runway...so you should be grateful, nor scornful. And you mightn't be taking his 'dirty shilling' anymore, but within a generation, you're bought into taking the Euro, (cos they built the roads, and you wont have to change Pesetas coming back from Benidorm) and all their Brussels laws and 'liberal' agendas that go with it.... Britain won the battles, Germany and Socialists won the ultimate war, and where are all the 'patriots' now? What are we celebrating here? Westminster-Brussels, Pound-Euro, Natives-immigrants, Tradition-'Progressive Choices' worth more than human life itself. Ar Éireann, ní nósfainn cé hí... I dont know who or what Ireland is anymore. "Bought and sold for Euro Gold, such a parcel of rogues in this nation"... will be sung by a last of the mohicans ethnic Dubliner in 50 years time.. with subtitles......sadly... no, he'll be silenced and banned cos hes not PC enough.... too ra loo ra loo
HEAT SEEKER - Do tell, what is community ... what truly the fuck is, community? The community in guise, has had to live under watch ... partridge, pheasant; peasant and goose. Community - my arse and the fox!

Less of that red cliff left since they sang there - keeps falling into the sea!! Was great to see them at the festival.
I just realize how crazy it is that they could record this with all the wind so well. must be some fuzzy mics

Wonderful, genuine performance. One of the best memories of Sidmouth 2015.
I sing along to this....it's wonderful traditional folk, what a band!

I’m listening to this incredible piece while sitting on the bog having a poopy. It has made my shite epic.

can you give me the liryks of your version of Sargent William Beily .......? every version I find, has a part of the song missing: the second verse you sing .
The second verse was composed by the one and only Luke Cheevers of Ringsend, Dublin.
Wow is the first time I heard his name, if you have the way to send me some material about him, I'll be very happy to listen it

is there a kind of address: mail or FRb or any else, to contact him?
No, he's doesn't use email or anything like that, but there's plenty of videos of him on youtube. Kind of ironic the members of this band are anti Irish communists

I don't get it, are you for or against statism?
