Shout-Outs to CodeLikeMe for the original In-Depth Tutorial!
ua-cam.com/video/0Hk7Ykcq4i8/v-deo.html&ab_channel=CodeLikeMe
For a simple repeating Material, this effect is pretty trippy, hope you like it :)
Thank you for being short and sweet. Every Unreal tutorial I come across is a 10 minute long slog fest that always starts with "First, create a new project"
I'm not going to be able to use this series just yet, so this is past me, thanking you and letting you know my interest in this series, that im sure future me will be even MORE thankful for when he uses it!
your UE5 content is great please keep creating more of this stuff
thanks mate, this kind of fast and accurate tutorials are highly apreciated
This is amazing. Not having to skip or watch it at 2x speed, no time wasted.
If you have Refraction not working do this:
In the left-side Details panel, make sure to select the type of refraction you want. By default, it’s set to "None".
thanks

We need more content creators like you... awesome. Thank you
I love you. 96 seconds. All I need.
what a fast and clear video, thank you very mush
Very usefull thanks ! For those who are in 5.3 with the node "Refraction" disabled, there is an option in the detail panel of the material for Refraction Method.
I try to use it but still not work, i dont have refraction ... how u succed ?
same
dont leave ur scalability to low in the preview if you want to see it
tysm ❤
How to transfer this effect into UI?
looks good by why we need niagara for this effect if we can make its all just in material
Tutorial of the Decade 🏆
Love this- is there a way to make it more of a cone-ish shape? like where the it spawns at a point and opens up as it goes backwards?
Why do I love you so much?
This effect reminds me of when Professor X uses his mutant power in the old 90's X-men cartoon.
I never thought about that, but now I can't "UN-Think" about it lol -
Can you make tutorial on how to add a charcter symbiote type
I mean you watched venom right
For when you want to make things trippy.
Can you make a mesh vibration, like the reverse flash character?
If you want to DO NOT FACE TO CAMERA, just need to ADD an Initial Mesh Orientation in Particle Spawn (set it to Vector in Local coordinate space), and ADD Align Sprite to Mesh Orientation in Particle Update and tweak its vector values
OH my god thank you, ive been trying to find out how for 4 hours just messing with the system and tutorials online, but then i came back to this video and checked coments as a last resort and you saved me
@@DarkFK2416 thank you. I was trying a lot to solve this
shortest and detailed video I have ever seen.
It's really that easy Oo Why i try to overcomplicate thing when i try to make it myself xD
any tips for orientation? I can't seem to get this to stay facing a direction, regardless of sprite renderer settings for facing.
How do I stop Particulate from facing the camera? I want to make it static horizontally, to be seen from top to bottom
do you found a way?
This is awesome! Thanks for sharing. Is it possible for a niagra pulse like this to trigger an event? E.g change a material on another object if the pulse collides with it?
Hi.. Thank you for your tutorial. Im new on Unreal and Niagara sys, so sorry for my stupid ques from now :)) How can I rotate to this NS.. I wanna rotate to landscape surface. and I want just 1 shock wave (I tried "Once", and" Looping setup" but not works).. I will use after explosion.. Thnx (UE 5.4.4)
Can you do a video about how to add two images like you did with the numbers but you did show only one image of the number 1
Sure thing man - It’s in the last couple tutorials ago at abou 1:04 here: ua-cam.com/video/TW9YDHA6pSs/v-deo.html
Wow. Love how quick this is. Respect the guy but SlowLikeMe makes me sleepy, haha.
What if I want the swirl to go in the opposite direction?
this worked for me: if my IoR was 1.2 , change it for 0.8 (i took 1 as it was the zero, so 1 - 0.2 is the inverse of 1 + 0.2)
@@joseignacioarias6644 I don't understand what is loR
Where can i get that black and white ring? 😢
Oh I just made it in photoshop lol - just look up Royalty Free black hole texture, I’m sure something will pop up :)
I don't know why but refraction channel is disabled in my case with translucent shading model
Refraction method was none
In your material details, search for Refraction Method and set it to Index Of Refraction manually.
wow
we would have world peace if every tutorial was like this
It doesn't Refract for me in 5.4 :( Plz help.
How to get rid of the white circle? Just distortion
Oh, just use a black mask instead of white circle, make the circle black with transparent background, 😂
@@GameDevAraz can you elaborate a bit more? i've tried but without success
well, instead of adding a white circle, add black circle with no background. @@victoralexandersilva5212
you also need to set fx settings to epic for to see distortion. if your engine scalability settings on fx are low, or medium, you won't see the fx. this took while to figure 😅@@victoralexandersilva5212
@@victoralexandersilva5212 Add a 2nd multiplier after the "multiply" thats going into opacity. Then change the B value to a lower number like .2
Does this work on unreal engine 4?
Is anyone able to replicate this on UE 5.2? They changed how the refraction is activated and I cant seem to replicate this effect.
Hm fixed it, You need to have the Effects on HIGH in the project scalability settings
Didn't fix it for me, did you have another solution?@@TheBlackGamerPT
@@tristanlapointe9087 if you are on UE5.2 or higher, click on the material root node (the big brown one that has the Base Color, metallic, specular, etc) the in the details panel scroll down until you find refraction method, by default it will be NONE, change it to INDEX OF REFRACTION and that should at least toggle on refraction, you can try with other methods to try and give you better results. I also changed the fresnel value to 0.001 instead of 0.0001 as suggested in the video so try and change the values. Make sure the effects scalability in on HIGH or CINEMATIC. Also try to plug in a normal into the fresnel, grab a noise normal or something like that, then plug it into a Transform Node and change the transform node to Source Tangent Space and Destination World Space and plug it into the fresnel normal.
Side note: You only need to set Effects to HIGH or Cinematic if you are using this effect on NIAGARA Particles, if not I dont think you need to change it to High or Cinematic, you can also use the Console command fx.Niagara.QualityLevel 2 instead of setting Effects to HIGH.
Hope it helps!
@@tristanlapointe9087 there’s a new “Refraction” Tab in the Details Panel when you have selected your material node in the editor, change 'none' to 'index of refraction'
@@tristanlapointe9087 in the Material Editor, under translucency setting you can find Refraction Mode make it to any option
Why do I not have numbers on my nodes?
i learned 0% of everything but was a cool video 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
fresnel is pronounced freh nell. Maybe it's just my autism, but it bother's me.
It's pronounced "FRENEL" not "freSnel"...
no one give a f
🤓
plz tell me you're saying "Frez-nell" as a joke
Wow, that is a lot of steps. I think in Effekseer I can do that in only about 5 or 6. 🤔
No one asked.
This looks pretty cool... does it work well with unreal engine 5?
@@ZAPcon There are many plug-ins for different game engines, Godot, Unity, Unreal, etc... I think the plug-in for Unreal works for versions 4.27-5.2 last I checked. 🤔
@@ArezX3 The comment wasn't for you. 😐
