Thank you for this and your other Kohler generator maintence videos. I’m the new owner of a 2005 Sea Ray 260 Sundancer with Kohler 5E generator. Just yesterday I viewed your other video then cleaned the flame arrester and changed the two spark plugs. Today I will check the choke linkage, change the fuel filter, oil, and oil filter. Your videos are helping me. Thank you.
@@AdventuresofHappyOurs thank you. I just watched #16 and as I type this I do not see #17 yet. I see the issue is high generator RPM and high generator output voltage. I will be watching your next video and looking forward to learn. Bad voltage regulator? Looking forward to seeing your solution.
Thank you, once again, for an awesome video. My Kohler 5E started acting up last year. It was starting rough, with smoke, and blackish water for about a minute then it would run fine. I adjusted the choke as you describe in this video, lubricated the linkages, and now everything runs smooth. I used your other Kohler video to change my coolant. Your trick on keeping the screws in for the flame arrestor probably save me an hour. Thanks again, keep it up.
Your videos have helped me diagnose and fix my Kohler 5e Marine generator problem last weekend. I changed the thermostat and fuel filter which solve my two problems...overheating and rough performance. Those issues were determined after much troubleshooting and maintenance with the assistance of your videos! Keep up the great work I also enjoy your voyages!
If you are not running it, it’s better to run antifreeze through inlet hose after impeller. Be sure to drain impeller pump too. Just don’t overflow muffler and have it flow into engine.
Have you ever had a surging/hunting issue with the 7.3E? I’m experiencing this right now and I’ve tried everything other than dismantle the carburetor completely and cleaning all jets
From the maintenance manual: Hunting A low fuel level because of an improperly adjusted float, a clogged main jet, restricted main jet passages, or an improperly sized main jet for the application can cause hunting. Clean, adjust, or replace inoperative components. An incorrect throttle linkage adjustment, a binding throttle linkage, a sticking throttle shaft, or a loose throttle shaft in the throttle body or bore can cause inconsistent idle speed.
That’s what I needed to know. Thanks brother!

Thanks so much! Much more to come!
Easy fix but it was great that your friend had that experience and thanks for sharing it cap.👍
Thanks for taking the time to share the solution
outstanding and very helpful!! Well done and to the point and now I know exactly what to have in the engine room.
Fucking awesome video so clear and at the same time explicit. Thank you Sir. Will
Try tomorrow
Thank you for the info.
Another great video!
Thanks! I have been having the same exact problem.
I believe I have the exact same model. If I can't keep it running can I winterize it by pumping antifreeze thru the strainer while generator is off?

Wow ! More stuff to go wrong when you need it to run..
