- Hello everyone! It's been a little while (2 weeks to be exact). I ended up getting walking pneumonia and recently finished working 7x 12 hour shifts. I needed a couple of days of rest to finally muster up the strength to edit a new video. I'm still dealing with a persistent cough, and I'm hopeful that I make a full recovery, but there's a little doubt looming overhead. Wish me luck, and prayers are appreciated.
Anyways! I'm not even sure how this video will be received. I love sharing helpful information and if you visit Yosemite National Park without preparations, it can be one of the most FRUSTRATING experiences.
To make the most out of your Yosemite experience do the following:
A.) Bring a bicycle: The main attractions are in the Yosemite Valley, and it's only about 3 miles across. Car traffic moves at a crawl, the trams easily fill up, and there's a lot of tourists that aren't aware cutting in line is wrong.
Or..... here's another option
B.) Visit Yosemite in the Winter time, and easily land a camp spot at the upper pines campground. In the Winter, there's hardly anyone visiting. It gets quite cold, so make sure you have the right gear to make it an enjoyable experience! That's where this video comes in!!

Yep, that’s me!…Red down jacket, white Subaru Crosstrek, light green Nemo tent. I was in site #31. You can’t see me or my campsite very well. But, I can tell it was me. LOL!
I didn’t even know you guys were recording video. I am fine with it, of course. I just knew it was me because of the dates you were there, the proximity to my campsite and well…it was me and my stuff. I looked back through my photos and I see you and your campsite! I think you were setting up your rooftop tent at the time. Fun stuff.
By your video, I take it y’all only stayed one night. That was a LOUD night. I had to use earplugs and would still be awakened by their noise. It was like camping next to a frat house. Those people straightened out for the other 2 nights that I was there.

The Wife and I stayed two nights. On Sunday, the plan was to get to camp much sooner, but I was dealing with body aches and wasn’t able to leave early in the morning like I wanted, so arrived just before obnoxiously loud group rolled in.
Karma was in full effect the following day and the Ravens absolutely tore their campsite apart. They had a table cloth that the ravens tore through. The ravens also pecked apart their rolls of towel paper.
I had towel paper left on my table that was left completely untouched 🤣.

Why was fire placed under the table? Was table barrier between the fire and tent?
We really like Yosemite in the winter...it's less crowded and if you bring all the right warm gears it's really enjoyable.
Yeah, it’s our favorite time to visit, especially when it snows. In snowy conditions the Wife opt for a hotel room with a Jacuzzi 😃.
100%! We have been going right after Christmas and a few years it’s snowed. So cool !
Love the realism. Batteries definitely definitely take a hit in cold. Such an amazing place. Last time I was there was 2011 in the summer.
Dang, dude! You putting the fire can right next to your tank is dicey. I leave my tank outside and run the hose in. Gazelle as a warming hut is a great idea too. I'm doing Yosemite in August. Pray for me.....
With the Ignik fire can, the heat shoots straight up. I did check the propane tank for warmth, and there was none of it. The table however, was getting pretty toasty, but not enough to cause any damage. Another thing I forgot with the fire can was to “deploy” the legs 🤣. No harm to the gazelle floor.
I just want to make a metal cap for the top to make it even more safe.
I think August will be good weather, have fun!!
Oh! One more thing to mention. With the ignik, you should have access to the propane tank because that’s where the controls are 😄

I have a gazelle like yours and thought how it would hold up winter camping, thanks for presenting. I also have eco battery banks and solar, but I definitely take my gas inverter generator as a backup.

Over the years I’ve just placed my goal zero 1000x into an insulated bag. Got the bag off Amazon and place it inside the bag with a few microfibers before it starts getting cold and the goal zero never gets the cold temp warning. It’s worked all the way down to -6 degrees without an issue.
Good tip! I went on another cold weather trip and blasted my heater. My vehicle has rear vents and it kept the EcoFlow Delta 2 max toasty. I was able to recharge 20% in 1 hour, which calculates close to the 430 watts of input 😃. Insulted bag sounds like a great idea! Thanks for sharing!

Man Jond I hope you get better from the walking pneumonia!! That can't be fun. Looks like you had a fun trip! Those type campground are always a hit and miss with generators but thats the price for camping in a park, convenience is everything with being in the park. I'm surprised the eco flow drained that much overnight. What did the percentage say at end of night before you saw it at 35 percent in the morning? I live winter camping!! Finally got out Friday night to camp for a shakedown run and make sure I had all my stuff. Looking forward to doing more up here
Hey Nick, I really hope I get better too!! It’s been over a month now, but to be fair, I thought I just had the Flu and didn’t start fighting this off with antibiotics until recently. I do feel better, but I have doubts that instead of recovering I’m going to relapse. As far as the EcoFlow, I noticed that with all power stations, if you leave the AC110 outlets on, it’s drains about 2.5%, no matter the capacity. When I woke up from night 1, the capacity was at 45%, but we went to bed with it in the low 90%. On night 2, I was a bit more frugal with the power and it ended up going from 70% down to only 35%. It was really interesting to see how the display said 433 watt input, but the batteries would only charge at a rate of around 260 watts, because of the cold.
Once we got back down to Oakhurst, we were recharging at full speed again.
Had it once. Once it starts to exit your system finally, you should be on your way to recovery
Your current power situation is where an invterter hooked straight to your car battery with alligator clips and fast AC is for best bet. It'll also produce heat to help the power station warm up.
The inverter will not heat up my power station, hehe! My vehicles heater wasn’t enough to make a difference. The cold just limits charging. Input was at 433 watts, but the power station was recharging at a rate of 260 watts.

Double checked to see if heat was building up around the propane tank, it didn’t. Ignik did a great job!!
Other ways to stay warmer in hub style tents are insulated ice fishing tents. Also, I have bought polyester fill and rough sewn a liner to fit between the ceiling bug mesh and rain fly. Since heat rises, haven't tried sewing side liners yet.

Yes! I had no idea what was wrong with me until I had an Xray done a week ago. I thought I had the Flu, so I was taking anti viral meds. The body aches and chills persisted. Some days I’d feel better, and then other days I felt cold and weak. I’m on day 9 of 10 taking antibiotics. I’m really hoping they work, I’m so sick of being sick.
About the hub style tent, I’ve had nights in high wind where the cold penetrated right through. Clipping on Mylar tarps to the outside worked really good, and slipping one of those tarps between the rain fly (like you mentioned) worked fantastic!!
That’s why you buy the Anker Solix c1000. You can bring it over to the lodge and it charges on AC at a rate of 1600 watts which will take your power station from 0 to 100% in 56 minutes. Also the Anker is expandable so you can buy the expansion battery to bring it to a total of 2150 WH. Also if you’re running heated blanket don’t use one that requires an AC outlet. Get a heated blanket that runs on a DC car socket. It uses way less power than using the AC option. Even better than the heated blanket is using a diesel heater. It only pulls .5 amps on fan speed one which plenty for a roof top tent.
So, in this video, you’ll find that the cold limits charging. If the anker solix inputs 1600 watts, it should recharge much faster than 56 minutes since it’s only about 1000 watt hour. For most adventures, an AC outlet isn’t going to be available, but then again with a DC to DC converter or higher output recharge, in most cases it won’t be needed.
Also, I highly recommend having more than 1000 watt hour. The EcoFlow Delta 2 max in this video is at 2048 WH. Without the extra capacity we would be without power.

I have the Anker Solix C1000 and the Delta 2 and several others. The Anker is expandable. So for the same price as the Delta 2 you could just buy the Anker and the Expandable battery. So for day trips its much easier to bring just the main unit then bring the expandable battery for longer trips. The two connected together has 2,150 WH. My whole point is that most campgrounds have some shop or hotel around in which you can charger from 0 to 100 in less than an hour is super helpful. My Anker charges in 56 min as advertised on the Anker specs.
@@ccwstraightshooter9761 is the Delta 2 not expandable? My Delta 2 Max expands to 6096 WH. In this video I’m camping in Yosemite at a developed campground but 90% of the travel I do is point to point overlanding with no plans to go into town, and many times in convoys.
You can buy a device called a “Heat Warden” which is a heat shield with legs that is designed to be placed over propane campfires.

Very nice channel. I just bought a 2023 passport Trail, I really like it. I would really like to hear about your thoughts on the wrap, the story of doing it and how its holding up. Considering- does it need maintenance? replacement?
I made a video about vinyl wrapping my Passport (I actually wrapped it twice). You’ll want to use a rugged wrap, like Avery Dennison rugged wrap. It’s textured and tougher than standard wrap. One thing to note is that dirt will stick a little bit easier and a quick rinse off won’t be enough, just take a towel to it and you can the wrap looking brand new.
We pretty much have same set up gazelle with ignik lol
Nice!! I actually never seen anyone run a fire can in their Gazelle, just seemed like a good idea for those single digit temperature nights. I love the setup. For the cold windy nights , I’ll line the ceiling and some of the walls with Mylar tarps.
@@JonDZ_Adventuring I use the firecan during the day then buddy heater when sleeping then I have 3 co detector on the tent at first I wanted a rtt but realized that I like driving around when camping so more convenient for me to have a ground tent

@@CC_Marauder if I said the eco flow river 2 pro was the “perfect” size, then I was referring to the combination of portability and capacity. That thing is 768WH and 17 lbs. where as the Delta 2Max is 2048WH and 55 lbs. it’s also kind of silly that the Delta 2 is substantially more expensive and only has 1024WH. So, I think it’s either the River 2 pro or Delta 2 Max.

Yeah. Can’t explain it. I would see temps in the mid 30s when I lived by the beach, so it was strange the iPad wouldn’t recharge mid day. Once we drove down in elevation, everything recharged at full speed.
We camped in Yosemite with less gear and 4 bundles of firewood. It was miserable. Just a bunch of smoke in the face and the heat from the fire would make little difference. The tent gazelle tent and fire can is a very effective combination that I’ve used many nights during my winter trips.
LOL my setup wouldn't fit in his car. Blame it on bouge wife.
Firewood creates a smell and ambiance that cannot be replaced. However for anything more than an overnight the logistics of firewood is a bear. Firewood fire also forces you to be outside and if its raining than you have nothing. Also last time I went camping I found a clearing where the stars were wild. But I couldn't take my wife there because you can't leave a fire unattended. And a firewood fire can't just be turned on and off like that.
