Love this! My dad and I used to play this, and he always picked the raiders for Bo Jackson. I picked the 49ers Ronnie Lott on defense, and set Jerry Rice as RB, which was almost as unfair.
49ers was the best team.. nobody would beaten me. Giants and Bills were equally good but inners were unstoppable. Oilers offense was sick too defense was suspect when it counted

But yeah, Niners are definitely the best team in the game, and thus when people call tournament matchups you RARELY see them picked. I spent more time than I'd like to admit playing that game. Raiders had Marcus Allen, but there was also a back up wide receiver named Sam Graddy. He was also amazing at running back for some reason, and I could get all three to run for over 1,000 yards.
Honestly as a big Tecmo Super Bowl player, the failings on Joe's part make this even funnier. Bo knows, Joe doesn't know. He may not have gotten the team correct or accounted for the fact you can't toggle players once the play starts, but he's at least right that you shouldn't be using Veris.

And for people who weren't around then and may be wondering, you NEVER ran Bo Jackson on every play, so it wouldn't be obvious to your opponent. You would pass the ball, run other plays, even punt sometimes. I would let the score be close on purpose, and just pull out that unstoppable Bo Jackson run when I HAD to score. Those were great times.

when I played this in the late 80's and early 90's I always wondered why that guy I used always ran the fastest...I thought it was a fucked up glitch...as soon as that guy caught the ball id run from one end to the other on purpose watching the other team try to tackle me...and of course double dribble..I would always go to the corner and shoot 3's on anyone playing against me...but they never knew that it was for some reason an easy way to hit a 3..they just thought I was that fuckin good at it...I didnt know that it was a glitch.
The Roenick up front with Belfour in net was ridiculous. LA has a coded Gretzky but they also had and awful Kelly Hrudey in net, I think they gave the poor guy a rating of like 54 and that was LA's starting goalie lol.
Barry Sanders was not in Tecmo Bowl. He was in Tecmo Super Bowl, the second edition of the game. Tecmo Bowl only had like 12 teams. It also had a cheat code where you could play a ghost team. On the original, Bo Jackson was full God mode. Lawrence Taylor and the Bears D were basically invincible. Walter Payton was pretty good, too. In Tecmo Super Bowl, I loved the DT sack glitch. Warren Moon and Dan Marino completed every pass, even if the WR was triple teamed. Both Sanders were insane, Barry and Primetime. I always used the Cowboys. Troy, Emmitt, Michael, and Jay led the league in all the categories. Russell Maryland had over 100 sacks, thanks to the glitch.

i sneak in a season of Tecmo super bowl on my emulator once a year or so since i got it as a kid! my fav football game ever!
