This song was written by the bass player Steve Harris, it is about the Charge of the Light Brigade at the Battle of Balaclava 1854, during the Crimean War. History and Metal, you can't go wrong!
The look on his face when the song first kicked off. Just a slight smirk like "this is gonna be good" probably the look on my face when I first heard the song
Steve's bass playing makes this so unique, the way it gallops is just so different and puts you in that frame of mind of charging into battle. Bruce of course is flawless as usual, Adrian's and Dave's solos are off the chain and Nikko knows nothing but the way forward on drums. These dudes are all time greats.
Maiden are great, I've seen them live multiple times and it's been a effing great show every time. The last show I went to was shortly after their lead vocalist, Bruce Dickinson, had beaten cancer and he still was so damn full of energy it was hard to believe. One of the all time great metal vocalists. For me the three best singers in metal are Ronnie James Dio, Bruce Dickinson and Rob Halford. That being said, you need to react to Judas Priest. If you want a song that leaves you breathless: Painkiller. If you want something that grooves: Troubleshooter or Devil's Child. Or you could go with their early era which sounds a bit like Sabbath sometimes: Dreamer Deceiver/Deceiver - or Victim of Changes. Or you could try their Peter Green/Fleedwood Mac cover: The Green Manalishi. Or off the same album: Delivering The Goods or Hell Bent for Leather. Other solid choices are The Hellion/Electric Eye, Screaming for Vengence, You've Got Another Thing Coming, Freewheel Burning, Jawbreaker or (of course) The Sentinel. I could go on for some time but I think that's enough so you can get a pretty good picture of them
Bro. Lead singer's name is Bruce Dickenson. Really interesting dude (singer, fencer, commercial airline pilot, brewer, author). I saw a quote from him saying he saw his job in the band as the guy that had to take a whole big arena and make it seem like it was a small pub. He really does this in a live show. Looks like they are going to tour in 2019. You should go check them out.
Iron Maiden is amazing! Glad you like them. I think one of my favorite Maiden albums of all time is "Piece of Mind". One of my favorite tracks off that album is "Where Eagles Dare". I love Bruce Dickinson. Long live Eddie!
Hold on bruuuuuh! You just made my day :D Been a Maiden fan forever, and im glad to see you become a fan aswell. You should do Fear Of The Dark Live In Rio next, that shit will blow you away :D As far as instrumentals, either Transylvania or Genghis Khan
This song is about The Charge of the Light Brigade at the Battle of Balaclava during the Crimean War. The Crimean War was fought from 1853 to 1856 between England and the French Empire versus the Russian Empire. Specifically, the Calvary Commander Lord Cardigan thought his light cavalry was being sent to prevent the Russians for capturing some artillery that was left on ground that was overrun by the Russians, but a miscommunication of orders sent the Light Brigade on a frontal assault against a well defended Russian artillery battery. Almost all of the Light Brigade were killed in the engagement. There is a poem called "The Charge of the Light Brigade" that tells this story and most likely is the basis for this song.
- Losfer Words - Transylvania - Genghis Khan My fav instrumental songs of'em. Also because of the fact that they got 2 lead guitarists, they do so much of 2(sometimes 3) guitar harmony riffs and cool solos on their songs wth vocals. So don't worry on instrumental sections when it's a Maiden song!
Any early performances live are great. You should see their Donnington 1988 gig. Awesome. It did help that I was there, but I am biased! Love this guys reaction to Maiden songs. You rock bro.
This song was written, based on the poem called "Charge of The Light Brigade". It's probably the horse galloping speed and feel that you like, about the instrumental parts.
If you like the instrumental in this song you're going to love Maiden. They are pretty much known for guitar harmonies. Do Fear of the Dark next even if it's not their best song.
Losfer Words is an AWESOME running song :D. I saw my first Iron Maiden concert about 20 years ago. Will be seeing them for the 50th time in September, here in Los Angeles... It is like a religious experience.
"Transylvania," "Genghis Khan," & "The Ides of March" are the three instrumentals you're looking for. But "Transylvania" is THE instrumental track. It has some amazing guitar work.
Fact: Apart from commercially successful songs like Run To The Hills, Iron Maiden is a band that has reached the heights despite nearly no radio air play. Bruce is great live. He's animated because he plays to the cheap seats. They're an arena band and he likes to make sure everybody can see him. You must check out Mission From Arry lol. Do it. Also Judas Priest and DIO.
This song is in my " Must play " iPod playlist during the Zombie Apocalypse as my unlce Dee is driving me as I gun down the undead , haha ! IRON MAIDEN , METALLICA , ROB ZOMBIE and SLIPKNOT too are all in the iPod too .
Yes. Iron maiden has losfor words on the power sleeve album. I’ve been listening to them for the last 30 years. I love them. Your reactions Remind me of me. 35 years ago. See the trooper video while listening to the song and the lyrics… Awesome!! Keep the great work.
Written about the poem "charge of the light brigade"...... the groove of the song is supposed to feel like horses galloping into battle..... it's about a cavalry charge by British soldiers into a Russian artillery battalion. It was a suicide mission......... with iron maiden you head bang while learning history.... 🤘😎🤘
I was just going to write Rammstein. He is complaining about him not be able to go to does old live concerts... A reaction to a live performance from Rammstein might get something for his buket list :)
You got another subscriber here bro! You have the best reaction videos and you have an amazing ear for musical talent. And the fact that Tool is both of our favorites just adds to it. Keep digging into the Tool songs bro, they are deep and have very cryptic meanings!
Favorite ???? No, 😂 😂 😂, Just Listen Iron Maiden-Révélation 😂 😂 😂, phantom of the opéra, Rimes of the ancient mariner, 22 acacias avenue, aces high, moonchild, seven son of the seven son
this song is based the poem the charge of the light brigade. by alfred lord tennyson which js about a famous battle during the cimmerian war. iron maiden has always had songs that dealt with history like run for the hills which was about the indian wars . power slave is about the ancient Egyptians , aces high is about the WW2 Battle of Britian , the clansmen is about William Wallace aka braveheart., the pilgrim ( a matter of life and death) is about the voyage of the Mayflower, and they've also had songs based on poems and novels. like quest for fire which is about cavemen and based on the novel and movie of the same name, the flight of icarus, which is Greek mythology about Icarus who had wings made of wax and flew to close to the sun, to tame the land which is based on the novel and movie Dune. and rime of the ancient mariner. a poem by samuel Taylor coleridge about a man who tells a wedding guest how he was the only suvivor of a doomed voyage because of something he did that brought bad luck to their ship. iron maiden rocked and taught you at the same time withpre-histoey, .modern history , modern art or classic literature
Instrumentals: Transylvania, The ides of March, Ghengis Khan, Losfer Words. Empire of the Clouds is not an instrumental, but has long stretches of just tune.
I think the guitar riff and the beat is supposed to imitate a Calvary charge. The song is about an actual battle where orders got messed up and they sent a whole Cavalry Brigade to charge headfirst into an artillery battalion. They knew they were screwed but they followed the order and charged anyway. The song is based off of the poem " Charge of the Light Brigade". Hope this helps, definitely one of Maidens greatest songs!
A yes! The trooper! Maidens finest piece of work, unlike most other reactors, yours is real and enjoyable to watch! Looking forward to more and you earnt a sub my boi
The bass line and the tempo is meant to evoke charging horses, the hoofbeats pounding along as the cavalrymen run towards the Russian artillerymen and death is moments away.
I like your facial expression when he says “musket.’ When they taught British history in our schools we learnt about this battle, and the poem that inspired this song. Worth looking into if you like the song, and more importantly perhaps, there is a beer brewed to go with it called “Trooper.” There’s not much better than drinking the beer whilst listening to the song, and having some knowledge of the history behind it. Whilst we are on the subject of beer, the same brewery have an ale called ‘Bomber’ in honour of the Lancaster Bomber.
Maiden is great cause you get metal and you get a history lesson
Same with Iced Earth :^)

3 Iron Maiden INSTRUMENTALS: "Transylvania", "Genghis Kahn", "Losfer Words",
You forgot Ides of March from Killers before Bruce Dickenson was the vocals. Paul Di'Anno was their front man back then.
Aaahhhh transylvania
flash of the blade middle part pretty cool too
And "walking on glass" from live
and not to forget : the Ides of March from the Killers album
This song was written by the bass player Steve Harris, it is about the Charge of the Light Brigade at the Battle of Balaclava 1854, during the Crimean War. History and Metal, you can't go wrong!
Beat me to it. Harris loves history and literature in his writing.
I can't tell you how many times I watch a video and come up with something relevant or witty to post and see someone beat me to it!
Was gonna go all alfred lloyd tennison reference and everything lol.
Wow, I wish you did beat me! I went with the Cliffs Notes version.
Go for it anyway! It's a great story, a piece of history and an amazing insight to the depth of the thinking of the band!

That and The sign of the cross.
You owe it to yourself, you NEED to watch Fear Of The Dark live. As soon as possible. It's life changing.
YES buddy great choice.
its funny because i remember when i was 10 and when i first watched that live it changed my life and i am a hardcore metalhead till now at 21
That's nice and he ended up watching it but why suggest such a common performance? What if he watched Raising Hell performance as a first impression?
Yes,but from Donnington 1993!
Just cracking open a bottle of The Trooper beer, to drink while I watch this :)
Not an instrumental, but try Iron Maiden, Wasted Years, I think you'll like it.
Nunya Business live version, always do a live version with Maiden!
Always do studio, THEN live version. Especially with Fear of the Dark. I swear the studio and live versions are 2 different songs.
Agreed
Great song!🎶🎼🎵🎶👍

I know what it is about “instrumentals”, that would be Dave Murray and “Adrian Smith” on Guitars! Amazing live Band!
