Today we're doing a cinematography breakdown of the Mcdonald's Spec Campaign Zach recently shot.
The last one seemed popular, so we figured we'd break down the rest of the shots in the campaign.

I would love to see a pre-production breakdown. specifically how you estimate the time needed for the setups. Also, how would you charge the client for pre-production if it was a paid job ?
The Pre-pro breakdown is coming soon! It's a nuanced approach when it comes to price breakdowns.
Saw it in other comments, but I'd also LOVE to see how you guys set exposure on shoots like this. False color, light meter, etc.. Would be super awesome to see how you get contrast ratios on skin compared to everything else.
Thanks for the feedback! Will definitely try to record some of that in the future to include into this.
where did you get the actual burger, a random burger picked up at the McD around the corner doesnt look that appealing, it would look like abomination
A food stylist! Definitely not a regular burger haha.
Separating the boys from the men, 6 months planning process, planned every shot, “nothing on the fly” that’s what it’s all about! Solid work as always!
Appreciate that! We try our best, and more content like this coming soon.
@TenfoldProduction mcdonald's is food for slaves
Next espio, can you show the false color you use for each lighting setting? Thanks for sharing your workflow, it's amazing!
Will definitely try to do that in the future! Thanks for the feedback
so grateful for this channel to exist as I am navigating the ad space as a cinematographer, thank you so much
Thanks for the kind words Griffin! Appreciate you
Please we want the dolly track build video :)
Would love to see the colour grading side of this commercial 😊
this is fire
hope you help out with colour grading as we
Appreciate you! Coming soon in the near future.
Thanks for sharing this breakdown, really helpful! Would love to see how pre production looks like on a commercial like this :)
Thanks Gabriel, the bts will be coming shortly!
Thanks for the content! A preproduction vid would be extremely helpful. Not so much for just this spec but in general. Speaking for just myself, I’m a freelance DP who typically films either solo or with 1-2 additional hands max. Preproduction is key but it’s really hard knowing if I’m taking the right approach. There are always fires to put out on the day an i ultimately end up deviating from the plan. This either means I’m not planning correctly or that being a one man band just comes with these kinds of hurdles..or maybe both
Hey! Thanks for the comment! We have a pre-production video coming out shortly for this project that will be covering pre-production.
If you're putting out a ton of fires during the shoot day, it mean there's missing gaps in the pre-production phase.
One man band's do come with more than one hurdle, as it effects every level of production (from our experience).
But we've found even with small crews (1-3 people), we've been able to navigate decently sized projects without any hiccups. Usually everything is saved in the pre-production.
If there's interest in learning more in-depth about pre-production, we'll be deep diving in our upcoming cohort course (Cinematic Portfolio Mastery), where we'll be showing everyone all of our pre-production frameworks so you don't have to deviate on your shoot plans. There's more info in the description if you want to learn more.
Just found your channel brother and instantly subscribed! How do you go abkut putting the budget together for a spec project? I've always wondered if its possible to have a sponsor for them. For example, your spec is for McDonalds but you would get money from the location or camera gear company used to help fund it. Is that ok to do?
Appreciate you! Yeah there are lots of opportunities to find money from other companies. There's just a fine line, typically if it's not in the same industry or competitors, it's typically fine.
Hi, you shoot a lot with sony and slog3 is 10bit, how do you get more than 10bit like r3d which is 16bit? or do you do the external 12bit prores? and also, sony high base ISO only works on slog
10bit is all we need a lot of the times. It’s more than enough for post.
We don’t shoot external 12bit pro res either.
Bravo, man!! Excellent work, and excellent breakdown. Thank you!
Thanks Jerry!
Have you done any projects on blackmagic cameras? I'm curious if its possible to create this quality from a more "affordable" camera.
It’s incredible this info man!!! The quality of this videos are EXCELENT!!!!! Keep it man!!
Thanks Pablo! Appreciate you, lots more coming soon
as always, what a huge work! thanks a lot!
As you said, you shoot a lot with the F22C, what's the difference between this and using a "traditionnal" light, like the aputure 300D with a softbox?
This breakdown is genius! How do you like the tilta tb-12 mattebox? Do you ever need to upgrade to something like the misfit kick on pro gigs? Looking for a new mattebox and think the tilta could be a great, affordable option but only want to spend once.
Thank you. Great content 🙏
Thanks so much! Appreciate the support
Great Content. Im currently working a day job at a small local TV station and Im the commercial producer. We make what some refer to as dirty 30's . Quick 30 second spots that we plan, script in a day or two and then solo shoot for roughly 2hrs . It's interesting to see the planning that goes into your projects and is a great inspiration to continue to grow my skills.
appreciate the time you put in ...keep them coming
We all want to know did mcdonalds hire you? Lol
As someone with not many experience in gripping, that overhead dolly, probe lens, big mac shot looks absolutely scary to me to set up.
great teacher! i am from china
Thanks!
Man, I love what you do !!! that's a great channel, also small question please, where did you get these nice "film burn" transitions please ?
I just love your videos, and I was really into get your course. I sad was, because im actually from Brasil, and the price here is 5x times more expansive (1 real = 5 usd) :(
Is there any chance that you can provide some discount for latin americans? A price more close to our reality? 🤩
you need a behind the scenes photographer
Keep blessing us with this amazing content bro!
Lots more coming! Appreciate the support
Does tripple diffusion on f22c really help when it is the same size on all of them, doesnt it just cut down the light? The source is still the same size and distance?
Increasing levels of diffusion does definitely help! Especially when you have minimal options outside of that too haha.
@@TenfoldProduction Ok, is the f22c your go-to keylight? Is it a good investment? Or is it a bit too small? Godox makes a bigger one.
@@johnnyweissmuller5838 it’s not typically our key light cause it’s smaller, works well as a rim light/ kicker. We use a few of them if we’re in small cramped spaces though when bigger light options aren’t available.
Beautiful!
Thanks Diana!
that commercial was so movie like. I love it
Thank you!
Thanks for the support David!
This is great! When you make a spec commercial for someone like McDonald's, is the view to send it specifically to them? Or would you add something like this to your showreel? Not sure whether I should make spec work with a specific product or brand in it because I don't want it to seem like I'm lying about working with them if you get what I mean ??
When you work on spec, you just state that it’s spec so it’s clear. It can go on your show reels, just ensure everyone knows! It’s all good haha
Solid works, and refeshing real pro channel ! Love it, thanks for spreading your knowledge man !
Thanks so much! Appreciate the kind words
Here is a short comment on the UA-cam video:
Wow, I loved the creative and visually stunning cinematography in this McDonald's commercial! The way you highlighted the golden arches and the busy kitchen was really impressive. Looking forward to seeing more of your work, especially in the Cinematic Portfolio Mastery Cohort Course!
Thanks and appreciate the kind words! Excited to see you in there.
very thorough and detailed video. From camera settings, filters used, lighting and diffusion set ups, plus props explanation. This is the kind of content I've always hoped for. Thanks a lot!!!!
P.S. Subscribed!
@@builtman2 appreciate you!
Amazing, we have a ton more content like this coming soon.
Would love to see a pre-production video!
