You only need one sentece to know how to make a good spiderman story: When Spider-man succeeds, peter parker should fail, and vise versa Edit: I’m not saying the story should be about this rule, im saying that in a spiderman stories, this rule should be kept in mind alongside the main story.

The Raimi films may be corny, but they nailed all the fundamentals that make Spider-man, Spider-man.... and Danny Elfman went hard as hell on that soundtrack.
I feel like the consequence point is one of your best. Spider-Man is a series built on the idea of taking action, and the consequences of those actions. Spider-Mans entire journey originates from the idea that he made the choice to not be a hero, which cost him his Uncle Ben. His actions had consequences, and that’s why he became the hero that we know him as.
Well he gets the suit taken away after fuckin up. I feel like having someone die in the Washington monument is unnecessary. You don't need someone to die there to shape his character especially since the only characters that would really impact peter would be Ned and Liz. And I think killing off either would be pointless. And it's not like Tobey had any consequences to his actions in spider man 1
Yet he doesn’t have that in far from home abandon a world crisis so he could have a vacation, meaning if someone dies due to him looking the other way then it’s on Peter yet he doesn’t come to that realization
@@Keizi hate to put it to you if he is the only own available to help then it’s on him to protect the world because if he doesn’t and the next day it’s destroyed that’s on him and he should know this because he should understand the consequences of turning a blind eye(if other heroes were available and were already working on it to the point Peter doesn’t need to help then yes he doesn’t have to worry about it, look at the miles game, he was going to come back because he saw there was trouble in Ny but miles he trained and gave him confidence that he got it, but if he didn’t and miles died then it be on Peter, but he had to give miles his responsibilities if he is ever going to take his place but in that case Peter could go on vacation because he trained miles in which he was ready to fly solo) the first time he did that Ben died, and the next time he does it will be someone else will and it be fully on him, that’s the whole point of the character, the fact mcu Spider-Man doesn’t understand this is why he is a bad adaptation because he acts like he learned nothing from Ben’s death Also Spider-Man is never been about a kid being a superhero, it’s about a kid becoming an adult because of his responsibilities as a superhero, in other words it doesn’t matter that he is a Kid, he should willingly put himself in an adult position based on the fact he has the power to do good, saying he is a kid so he doesn’t have to do the right thing shows you don’t understand the point of Spider-Man
It sucks that in the comics, he was kicked out of the Avengers multiple times for being immature and edgy, he didn't idolize them and even fought most of them. Do they really think teens are happy go lucky fanboys 24/7?
@@blanks8851 They aren't, but this trope is all he is in the MCU, the comics is an individual with his own stories. The dude is a teen trying to make money, teens are edgy and insecure, that's why he was relatable. It's what keeps him from being Iron Man 2.0. It's also a key part of his character. You lose a lot of his development when you forget that teens AREN'T happy go lucky, that they CAN be impulsive, that they DON'T look up to authority. Especially when they're poor and working outside of the law for money. That's what his creators thought was a cornerstone of his character. Him getting into the Avengers took years and multiple attempts (I think he wasn't official till the 2000s), in the meantime he had grown significantly so by the time he finally joined he wasn't a high school student brushing shoulders with Vietnam vets. Because character development is a thing and has payoffs.
Also problem with the MCU: The timeline is messed up. Civil war: Spiderman fights super heroes and is pretty good at it. Homecoming (which plays AFTER Civil war): Spiderman does not know how to fight yet and has trouble fighting basic criminals.
What kind of self-respecting hero would beat the shit out of a 15 year old kid? Tony blatantly said that Cap would have kicked the living shit out of him if Cap really wanted to.
I'm sorta heartbroken that they took really fundamental aspects of Peter's character out of him. Also can I say is absolutely hilarious to me when I see people say that Tom Holland's Spiderman is comic book accurate...when he's absolutely the complete opposite. Love Tom, he's a great actor, and incredibly charming in the movie but he's not Peter Parker or Spiderman. Amazing video, glad to hear more people talk about this. Also that Stan Lee video talking about Peter's character is wonderful and everytime I watch it makes me tear up.
@@Coconut_Prrson He needs to become a billionaire as a reward for all his soon to be future sacrifices, he did became rich in the comics, now that is a good ending.
But isn't the most tho? I mean Peter is 15 in these movies. It seems that the Spiderman which so many Raimi fanboys want is one that is not in HS, completely alone, and is not in the MCU.
@@Aiasmor Even as a 15 year old, Peter is supposed to be someone who grows up fast and has many responsibilities to take care of. If you've seen Spectacular Spider-Man, he's also in high school and is around 15-16 years old. Yet he has to worry about helping Aunt May pay bills and getting a job to do that. The whole reason Spider-Man was made as a 15 year old superhero as opposed to an adult one was to show him handling adult responsibilities as a kid. To show that a kid could do all the stuff only adult superheroes did back when Spider-Man was first created, when teenagers would only ever be sidekicks. The world isn't supposed to go easy on Peter because he's a kid. That takes away a huge part of what makes his character special from his high school days. MCU Spider-Man seems to be headed in that direction now from the looks of it though so it seems that even they've heard the complaints people have and are taking steps to correct that.
One of the fundamental characteristics of Peter Parker is that he can never have a good life. He never gets a break. That is why he is such a beautiful character. No because of his jokes or his super powers but because he has everyday normal problems that we have. He is the most relatable character in comic book history. Being Spider-Man doesn't make his life better, it makes it worse.
@@BLAM5980 Well he had as much fun being Spider-Man as anywhere else, there were still moments in which he was scared and under pressure too like in the other adaptions. And while Peter might not make any of his friends hate him like he often would Harry, he definitely made the dad of his crush, which consequently lead to them "breaking up" and her moving away. He 100% knew that it wasn't going to end well for himself ("consequences"), but he did it anyways.
@Charles Parrino If I recall correctly, MCU Peter is 17. He was 15 in Civil War, 2 year time skip to Homecoming, and then he got blipped. So he should be 17 right?

But no everyone wanted a highschool Spider-man because that's all they think Spider-man is, he starts out as a nerd to grow up to become a strong young man. Just stop with Highschool spider-man and iron man jr. I always say the MCU is a blessing and a curse.
@Nova Not really they could of had him in college he could still being a hero while focusing on his college as well like seriously is that all everyone thinks "high school let's keep him in high school" PS4 Spider-Man prove that a Spider-Man can work as an adult.

Exactly if you are gonna skip the origin and not even mention Uncle Ben who is the reason Peter started fighting crime. Yet you keep him in high school? Uncle Ben would still be important. Also we talking about PS4 Peter, but what about Peter B. Parker?
@Horse Dude I get it, but how else would they put Spider-man inside Civil War and right in the middle of the MCU? Any ideas? Honest question. Haven't played Spider-man on PS4, can't talk about that. I mean, I thought it was smart at the time, even if "wrong"...but I honestly don't care anymore, either way. They always screw around the "core origin" in a lot of these movies. Some people seem particularly anal about this specific change.
How many times do we really need to see that? Like how many times do we need see Martha and Thomas Wayne killed? There’s only so many times it can be shown until people are just like, “Get on with it already.”
The most negative point of MCU spider-man is his motivation is tony stark not uncle Ben. He feels more sad for tony not for his uncle... EDIT - people who are saying that we have seen uncle ben die twice and don't want to see that again. I agree that we don't have to see that all things again and again. But it seems like MCU version spiderman never misses his uncle or never loved him. In comics too they never show uncle ben dying again and again but they show emotional and sypathatic connection between Peter and his uncle in other ways. But MCU Peter and May never mentions Ben...

I was gonna say guilt. Guilt has always played a huge role in his character development, especially with uncle Ben's death in the raimi trilogy. But I guess the theme of him not being able to catch a break kind of ties into that
@@michaelthomas305 I do, I anilyzed his critiscims and came to the conclusion that their dumb, therefore his opinion deserves no respect from me just for being an opinion.
@@stanleysmooth Yeah, and the reason he became spiderman is because of him, had it not been for his death nothing else would've happened, he wouldn't have been able to lift the metal in the "if this be my destiny" panels. What's with this simplistic, superficial reading of the story?
With that same logic Spider-Man PS4 is bad because Peter Parker doesn't mention Uncle Ben. In both movies, we're seeing a Spiderman wayyy after that all happened. Homecoming isn't an origin story.
@@dankgothtrash Your bait is a fail, since Ben is clearly seen on photos in the intro of game, showing how important he is to Peter. Ben is also shortly mentioned by Name in a dialogue with May AND you can visit Ben's grave to pay your respects, which gives the Player even a Trophy. So, Ben is still really important in the PS4 game.
I'm just not a fan of this version of spiderman. I was introduced to the character from the 90s animated series and read the comics from the 90s. There are things integral to spiderman, things like his bad luck, uncle Ben being his father figure who he learns his morals front "with great power comes great responsibility". Removing these elements just takes away from the character.
@@anushkayadav8256 it's like removing things like the death of Bruce Wayne's parents for why he doesn't kill, or captain america fighting nazis for why he stands against totalitarianism and fascists.
This is true but only if you assume that Toby Maguire Spider-Man is comics-accurate. Spider-Man Homecoming is adapting the Spider-Man comics, not the Toby Maguire films. In the comics, Uncle Ben is really insignificant. He doesn't even say "With great power comes great responsibility", that line is just narration. And although responsibility is why he becomes Spider-Man, it isn't why he keeps being Spider-Man. Arguably Homecoming captures Spider-Man better.
It clearly doesn't. Just because he is Spider-Man doesn't mean that he needs to have bad luck. That's just the bad writing from the old days ffs. I thought people here would be smart but nope.
Oscar Vazquez I kinda agree with that because in homecoming it looked like he was already over it when that is the time he would think of Ben the most.
Sonic the Hedgehog yeah that I agree with also him being completely absent is something missing within how Tom’s version is written not his performance before anyone Holland fangirls attack me how he was written without Ben to be the catalyst for the whole with great power thing which is essentially channeled through stark is while a unique take is kinda unusual.
now that no way home is out, the mcu trilogy of spiderman movies feels like a cohesive character arc for this version of Peter Parker. Each movie brings him closer to the reality of the consequences of his double life. First with how miserable he made Liz, second with Mysterio betraying him, and now finally making him grow as a superhero with SPOILERS the death of Aunt May in no way home. Even more so with losing both Ned and Michelle with Dr. Strange's spell at the end. The issue with homecoming is literally because they backed themselves into a corner by having Stark bring up Peter in Civil War. Because of that introduction, Peter was now a significantly carried Spider-Man, which they got rid of in far from home as Stark's death leaves Peter with self-esteem and identity issues. Mysterio's contingency plan makes Peter the most vulnerable he's ever been, which makes no way home the ultimate Spider-Man film, building the Peter Parker we know from the comics and other media over the course of 3 movies, culminating in a finale that really blows the MCU since Endgame, out of the water. Not to say that no way home invalidates this video, but I feel like they definitely capitalized on their rough intro with Spider-Man in the MCU.
SPOILERS Don't forget that at the end, he got a new home and made his own Spider-Man suit. So he no longer even relies on Stark Tech. Its all his own stuff.
Yes you are so spot on! The Tom Holland trilogy is just one big origin Story. Individually except no way home, Tom Holland’s Spider-Man movies aren’t amazing Spider-Man movies but in the the grand scheme of things and if put together, they make one big amazing origin story and an amazing Spider-Man trilogy.
Your opinions are very valid and you make good points. I wish the internet didn't have to be such a mean and opinionated place where everyone is at each others throats. I thoroughly love Homecoming but you opened my eyes to a new perspective. It doesn't detract from how much I still love it but at the same time I now have another viewpoint on the movie and that's cool and awesome. Good video essay A+ 👍
I feel the exact same so glad I watched the video. I hope the studio recognizes some of these flaws. Maybe after avengers 4 things will be different and they'll grow his character into his more traditional character traits, for example his sense of responsibility. Even though there were no real consequences he still could have showed more personal distress in those situations, ie instead of talking to his ai about how amazing liz was he could've asked if it was fucked up to ditch his friends? I want to see a captain universe spider man like version of spider man, overburdened by his responsibility all the time, I guess with the suit he'd be capable of taking on bigger baddies, with more power comes more responsibility
Look at the Vox and there "MCU feels empty video" There's probably a good reason why this has more likes than dislikes and that video has a like dislike ratio of around 1:3
Why homecoming is overrated according to me? 1. Peter ain't relatable at all 2. It's not Spiderman, it's technology man 3. No high stakes 4. Where the hell is Harry
One of the fundamental characteristics of Peter Parker is self-improvement. He makes mistakes, terrible ones that'll stay with him forever, and accepts them to his very core. As a result, he gets a little better, he improves and grows. Yup, totally typed this in 3 seconds.
To me, the _most_ defining characteristic of Spider-Man/Peter Parker is that he is responsible. More than his life being miserable, he's responsible; it informs all of his behavior. Peter has had moments in which his life goes well; maybe happily married, but he's still responsible. Peter has briefly given up at times, so his most defining characteristic isn't that "no matter how many times he's knocked down, he gets back up". Pay attention to what motivates him when he goes back to being Spider-Man; it's due to feeling the responsibility of being able to help and not doing so. Peter Parker is relatable, but he isn't defined by being "the everyman", he's defined by learning the lesson Uncle Ben tried to teach him too late and constantly trying to "save Uncle Ben," whether the "Uncle Ben" in question is Aunt May, his best friend's dad, Gwen Stacey, or a stranger due to knowing that this stranger is "someone's Uncle Ben". People are who they are when they are in the dark. When no one knows and therefore no one can hold Peter responsible, he still holds himself responsible. It's easy to be the hero when you are rewarded for it. Some heroes don't get rewarded, but they get indifference; their praises aren't sung. Spider-Man often does the right thing, but doesn't get rewarded and doesn't even get indifference, but instead, the universe kicks him in the teeth for it, which of course makes him want to quit, but he knows that when he doesn't do anything, "Uncle Ben dies all over again". Even when Peter is crippled, he still tries to help in one way, or another, due to having had a lot of experience being a hero by that point that he feels he can do something, even if it's not the full Spider-Man schtick. I love and relate to Peter Parker due to his nerdy, intellectual side, but I respect, admire and seek to emulate him due to his steadfast responsibility. Spider-Man is the kid who, due to his difficult experiences, manages to be more responsible than the adults around him. He lost his mentor, feels lost and inadequate, but actually manages to outdo pretty much everyone in being a good, responsible, caring hero, even though he usually takes a long while to realize it; living in imposter syndrome until he does.

I pretty much agree with everything in this video. The MCU connected-ness kind of ruins it. I know this is also a common gripe, but for me, I prefer an older Spider-Man.
Having a Spider-man movie first and *then* let him join into the MCU. All the other big heroes haad atleast one movie just for themselves with little hints towards the end that there might be something more.
@@HappyBeezerStudios Spiderman in the MCU is all about growing up and becoming independent, and he did that in far from home. For every movie he is moving further and further away from relying on other people.
Im still young so im growing up with these new spidey movies so I think its really cool even without the consequences thing and especially far from home
Agreed Homecoming as a film is a great movie, but as a Spider-Man movie it's pretty flawed. Like in Spider-Man PS4 shows how you could make a good Spiderman story with all the themes like responsibility and balancing his hero and personal life without needing to give him an unnecessary high-tech suit or being dependent on another hero.
In Spider-Man PS4 he is 23 and has 8 years of experience. In Homecoming he is 15 and has 8 months of experience. Seeing the difference? And he got the AI only because he hacked the suit. Tony didn't want him to use it.
Mike Dasik 8 months is still enough time to be at least competent. Spider-Man in the comics didn’t take almost a year to figure out how to be Spider-Man. Sure he wasn’t perfect but he was way more competent than Holland. By 8 months he should be able to at least catch a car of just random criminals.
Mike Dasik compare the consequences though insomniac’s Peter by the end should be completely shattered as a person ... but he picks himself back up, puts on the costume and goes back to protecting the city and granted while Holland’s Peter does the same at the end the other element of consequence is virtually nonexistent.
@@dasik84The A.I being there in the first place is the problem, when I first watched Civil War, I didn't see Tom Holland, I saw Peter Parker/Spider-M and when Tony gave him the suit I thought he just gave him a better looking suit and advanced the already impressive technology created by Peter but then came Homecoming we have 500+ web combinations ? Am okay, Instant kill mode, ah okay ? An then an A.I the suit just becomes an Ironman suit re painted as a Spidey suit even if it was only part of the training wheels protocol but still it's there.
@@dasik84 Also let's be honest even though he goes through some consquences in the film it never truly affected him or his loved ones I mean he literally just walks out of detention. Compare that to the consquences he goes through in Spiderman 2 or Spider-Man PS4. If they wanted it to add comedy in the film they could have added the humorous abundant of consequences that Alex speaks about in this video.
I can't take this Tom Holland version of Spiderman seriously because everything is perfect for him. He has a hot aunt, good looks, trillionaire Dad/Mentor who is literally Iron Man, unlimited resources and even the "worse case scenario" plot twists are swept under the rug. He even died and came back in an instant, it's ridiculous. This is not a character, he is a live-action cartoon with a spider-themed Iron Man suit. Next.
You are right this new movie is quite childish and doesnt have the real spiderman drama. The actions are so much better in old ones. Pretty late answer but dont care.
My opinion: people have a herd mentality when it comes to hollands spiderman and its partly because most of them consist of MCU fan boys and the like. Hollans spiderman is whiny for no reason
You got a very good point. While Tobey Maguire's and Andrew's Spider-Man actually expressed the true meaning behind his Character, Tom's Spiderman just relies on Tony Stark and Happy to help him. Everytime there's a "big problem", he just has Tony to give him a stronger suit and Happy to give him better resources. He isn't Spider-Man, just some Tony Stark employee
Âlpha Ferocity it’s actually an accurate juxtaposition of what Otto becomes by saying using intelligence for the good of mankind he ends up using it for the opposite path which is becoming a criminal until Peter convinced him to control the arms and Otto redeems himself and fixing what he did by sacrificing both him and his experiment.
What do you mean he has no consequences, you either lie about the scenes that support your claim and ignore clear examples. Peter didn't destroy the dudes shop, the robbers did. How would he know they had those types of weapons? Ditching Ned at the party dose have consequences, he doesn't get to hang out with them, loses the chance to gain popularity, gets in trouble with Iron man and almost dies. If anything he's a great Spider man for ditching the chance to be cool in order to catch some bad people. Endangering his friends at Washington helps the Vulture realize that Peter is Spider man, thus putting his and his family's lives in danger. Ditching Liz makes her break up with him and stop hanging out with him, and Peter ditched her in order to stop her dad. You also forgot to mention how Peter fighting on the boat ended with him getting his suit taken away, Tony being mad at him, and having to fight the vulture in his shitty homemade suit and almost die.Your trying to say that's not giving him consequences?
Even if "loses the chance to gain popularity" Is supposed to be a consequence among those others, the consequences still dont have impact. Its quickly brushed off, moved on with, or they dont have much effect on Peter, there's barely a lasting impact, even Peter was pretty unphased by the consequences which puts it in perspective.
The only consequence that had impact was when Tony confiscated the suit. At that point, the film started to become a good Spider-Man film (hitop even says that) but it then destroys its own message by having Tony give the suit back, offer an upgraded suit and a higher position. Sure Peter doesnt take it straightaway, it doesnt matter he ended up becoming an avenger and getting thay iron spider suit

In the context of that story, yes. We don’t need to see his origin; we get the point, and nothing happened in that universe that would. The events of The Avengers makes Peter being in his 20s in this movie completely ridiculous.

"Everything's fine" Yup, that actually sums it up. That's an idea/phrase that shouldn't be anywhere CLOSE to Spider-Man/Peter Parker. He is in a constant state of struggle, confrontation, heartbreak and attempting to overcoming said challenges. That's what makes him interesting and inspiring....and...a person. Homecoming is fine as just pure entertainment, but the true Spidey he is not.
@Dom Bob well duh, hes iron man 2.0 and iron man had no secret identity, far from home probably ends with a scene where he reveals in a press conference that he is spiderman and then the movie cuts to the classic spiderman song.

Homecoming is my favorite Spider-Man movie but I definitely see and can agree with the points you made. It’s good to see a contrasting opinion presented with substance and not be filled with hate. Arguments can be made civilly and this was a really well made one.
I hope it brings in Uncle Ben and Peter's principle of responsibility. I get that going through the origin is overkill, obviously. But leaving out Ben and his impact on Spidey, made this Peter feel like he was just a naive wannabe Iron Man. He loses his drive that defines why he would be willing to do all that he does. And that drive also makes it all the more compelling when Peter is near quitting from his complications. Go look up the "come on Spider-Man scene" with Danny Elfman's score and Ben's quote. It makes that scene SO much better and poignant.
Reflex I mean he will eventually die in Avengers 4 because he portrays as a father figure to Peter like Uncle Ben and we all know what happened to Ben, right?
I agree to an extent. Spider-Man 2 is indeed a masterpiece, and in saying that, I can’t compare it to Homecoming. The latter is, as you said, a “fun” high school movie, and I think that’s what the Spider-Man character needed right now. Hopefully the sequels improve on the maturity/consequences, which I think they will. Great video P.S. Spider-Man MTV is fkn perfect.
oddly enough, the director actually addressed the entire crux of the video in an interview once about how "this is not origin movie 1 where hero learns of his mission and his place in the world but also isn't the soul crushing moral 'come to Jesus' moment of movie 2. This is sort of supposed to be in the middle," Though clearly this worked against the film than for it because 9 out of 10 Spider-Man books not written by Dan Slott (and even then he can still at least stick a landing once in a while... yeah, fuck Dan Slott. Fuck Nick Spencer too while we're at it for taking over ASM too,) are about how he just keeps walking balls deep into the waters of "how fucked over can I get in one day without going insane?" and then maybe, JUST MAYBE, he walks away with a cookie in the form of Gwen, Black Cat, and ESPECIALLY Mary Jane Watson. PS. Fuck One More Day.
The Devil's Due Uncle Ben needs at least a mention in the next film. Going this long without a mention is becoming detrimental to the character. As much as I hate BvS and it's shoehorning of the Waynes' deaths, it would also be awful if Thomas and Martha were never mentioned.
The Spider-Man PS4 story... that should've been a movie instead of Homecoming and Far from Home, I mean even the title of those movies sound ridiculous🤷🏻♂️
I’m glad they fixed this, now one of peters loved ones may die because his mistake, the multiverse is fucked, his identity is revealed. His glasses were stolen and almost got ALL of his friends killed and now everything isn’t fine. So maybe homecoming was softening us up for far from home and no way home.
*Light spoilers* Yeah the previous two movies of the Holland series were just the extended origin story of Spider-Man (with still an odd absence of Uncle Ben which is quite strange) with this last one feeling like a (kinda) proper Spider-Man movie minus the multiverse shit
"But Tom Holland is actually a highschooler!" Spider-Man stopped being a highschooler in the 90's. It's time to- what's that? Spider-Man started college in the 60's? He was a highschooler for only around 30 issues? Ooooh.
I just really hate how they toned down Spider-Man's intellectual skills as well as his Spider Sense. I really thought Spider-Man could create his own suit and not make Iron Man to do it.
RN_2 They didn’t tone down his intellectual skills yeah he didn’t create his suit but he created his webshooters and used his head in different situations unlike Tobey
Nevermind the suit, the spidey sense sucks. In the new Spiderman far from home trailer, Peter didnt even “spidey sense” Nick Fury in their room and couldnt even hear the tranquilizer shot. Bullshit.

You hit the nail on the head. I hope the MCU takes notes from Insomniac Games. They did a damn good job with Spiderman PS4. Peter Parker suffered, he struggled in his daily life, and some of his actions had genuine consequences. AND no interference from the Avengers.
@TheDuck ThatQuacks Again, nobody said we wanna see him get shot. We wanna see how his influence is affecting Peter. Looks to me that you HAVE NOT played Spider-Man PS4. They didn't retell Benjamin getting mugged or even mention the event. It's just Peter thinking about whether or not he's doing the right thing and whether it would make Ben proud. Plus, DID YOU NOT WATCH THE VIDEO? He clearly said no one wanna see Uncle Ben dying again.
This movie has now me appreciate the Amazing spider-man movies a lot more even though there mediocre to me,but these two Tom Holland spider-man have completely ruined the character of spider-man,and there along two of the worst spider-man movie ever made to this day
Nailed it. This video sums up exactly how I feel about Homecoming. Marvel felt the need to sacrifice some of the core aspects of the Spider-Man character in order to better fit the light, weightless tone of the MCU. The sad thing is, you could really make this same argument for all of the Marvel characters. They were originally defined by their fallibility. Their humanity. These characters' most iconic moments are usually tied into that in some way. Think 'Demon in a Bottle' or 'God Loves Man Kills'. The idea was always to take the idea of the superhero and bring it down to our level. What if normal people had these abilities with all of the complications and problems that normal people have? The MCU don't care to bring that to the big screen. In the least. All of their characters role into one. Things like Iron Man's dickery in Iron Man 1 doesn't get dealt with, it just becomes a source for humour as does everything in the MCU. Marvel and Disney's one aim is just to keep you entertained and hope you don't ask for anything more. Raimi's Spider-Man movies (and 3 has its moments here too) are able to entertain in the way a 'blockbuster superhero film' should - but its also incredibly sincere and heartfelt. It's not afraid to make you feel sad, scared - as well as humoured and awed. I still think Spider-Man 1 and 2 are the standard to which all superhero movies should strive. Good video. Glad someone else said it.
I feel like you watched the DC movies rather than the Marvel ones from those comments. Or you just want to be special by going against the movies. I dont remember almost any of the Comic superheroes being a normal person. Even Spiderman was a genius beyond imagining, creating his web fluid on a budget so tight you could form a circus act around it. If the movies failed to capture the humanity of each character, then the comics must have been straight up magic. Oh wait, they werent.
Tony Stark was an alcoholic sleaze. Peter Parker is a working class kid from Queens who struggles to make end's meat, struggles with relationships and balancing his life as both Peter and Spider-Man. The X-Men are all persecuted, victims of outright bigotry. Bruce Banner's power is an affliction, something he wants to get rid of. The Fantastic Four were a family, they fought among themselves constantly and bickered as a real family would. Ant-Man and the Wasp have an awful, abusive relationship and Hank Pym suffers from bipolar disorder. You clearly don't read Marvel comics if you think there's no humanity in them. The movies don't care to display any of that because it's too difficult for mass audiences. If you love just shoving popcorn in your mouth, giggling at awful pop culture jokes and big dumb cgi fight scenes then you go right ahead mate. Substance ain't for you it seems.
Actually, let me respond to the rest of that nonsense. We see Tony go through alcohol problems in Iron Man 2 (Not quite as heavily as it could have been, but enough that anyone who pays the slightest bit of attention will notice it), we see Peter's inexperience and nervousness, we see Captain America having to face the world as it is now being almost taken over by the very organization he fought against. In his home country, at that. I have not watched Ant Man yet, nor Black Panther. I did not know much about Doctor Strange other than he was genuinely a doctor and magical until his movie, but I loved his character for it. No, we dont see these characters have a random disorder or disease and deal with that, we see them grow from their positions, be it privileged or terrible. We see them face their demons and the demons of the world they live in, not just being handed a random disorder out of a bag. Instead of the "oh fate hates me" nonsense, we get "I made mistakes, other people made mistakes, now I have to deal with that." If adding random problems to a character is deep, then I guess you would be right, but I prefer my heroes to get shit done, not sit about whining about their poverty when they could make themselves rich in a fucking week. (Yes, its a bit of a petty thing about Spiderman, but it is true nonetheless.) I could rip out a fuckton of comics that make even the worst comic book movie, not just the MCU movies, but literally any comic book movie, look like pure gold. See, a big problem for comics is that they have to end similar to where they start, or be part of a continuity that may contradict anything new. Otherwise we get things like Peter's deal with Mephisto. That can be great, or it can be terrible, but as a comic fan, you should be happy that these characters are getting portrayed to a wider audience, who will likely end up searching for more entertainment involving these characters after the movies are done (Like comics, games, or even the odd book or two, if there are any of the character they want). If you genuinely dislike the movies, then its a childish thing to insult people over liking them. Maybe the characters dont line up perfectly with what you took away from their comics, then okay thats a bit more understandable. I prefer the Peter Parker from the Spectacular Spiderman series, for sure, but that doesnt mean I cant enjoy this one. I loved Iron Man before I saw any of the movies, but I love the movie version the most. Doesnt detract from the others, in fact he bolster my love of them. Deadpool, ooooh deadpool. I learned of him real late, and didnt care much for him. You know what made me love him? It was two comics, one where he killed the entire marvel universe, and the other where he just stopped a woman from suicide by dragging her on his usual adventure. The movie did not take that same raw chaos and humanity that I saw Deadpool as, but I could still enjoy them. If you can enjoy one of the many alternate versions of a comic character, why can you not enjoy the same of the movies? If, however, you just believe that movies are for 'peasants', like the whole PC Gaming Master Race nonsense, then you can fuck right off with that elitist shit.

Because it's never REALLY been done correctly even though they've tried and it's a good place to start for the forseeable future into the MCU. Agree on the Iron Man thing, hope he dies in Avengers 4.

This video is amazing. Seriously shows the main problem with homecoming which is the consequences in the film. That’s what makes Spider-Man so great. He always has to make the hardest choices, even if they lead to bad consequences. Take the Spider-Man PS4 game for example, Peter was done brilliantly.
Yes! The Spider-Man from the PS4 game is the epitome of what makes Spider-Man so great. In Homecoming...there's not that same weight that Peter should hold as a superhero.
Spiderman 1 : uncle ben Spiderman 2 : haven't seen it lol and managed not to get spoiled. XD Spiderman 3 his Osborn friend. TASM 1: Uncle ben TASM 2: Gwenn.
I would’ve gone with less of the suit but I think people exaggerate how long the suit’s screen time was. It was only there for a third of the movie. The Washington DC thing then immediately it got confiscated in the next scenes (ferry). The first and last thirds had him in a regular suit.
Marble Witch in my opinion the best part of the film was the end because I believe that it proves that he doesn't need the suit as much as spiderman thinks

His actions had consequences, and that’s why he became the hero that we know him as.

Removing these elements just takes away from the character.
So many people don't understand that..it's sad
@@anushkayadav8256 it's like removing things like the death of Bruce Wayne's parents for why he doesn't kill, or captain america fighting nazis for why he stands against totalitarianism and fascists.
This is true but only if you assume that Toby Maguire Spider-Man is comics-accurate. Spider-Man Homecoming is adapting the Spider-Man comics, not the Toby Maguire films. In the comics, Uncle Ben is really insignificant. He doesn't even say "With great power comes great responsibility", that line is just narration. now that no way home is out, the mcu trilogy of spiderman movies feels like a cohesive character arc for this version of Peter Parker. Each movie brings him closer to the reality of the consequences of his double life. First with how miserable he made Liz, second with Mysterio betraying him, and now finally making him grow as a superhero with SPOILERS
the death of Aunt May in no way home.
SPOILERS
Don't forget that at the end, he got a new home and made his own Spider-Man suit. So he no longer even relies on Stark Tech. Its all his own stuff.
Yes you are so spot on! The Tom Holland trilogy is just one big origin Story. I hope the studio recognizes some of these flaws. I want to see a captain universe spider man like version of spider man, overburdened by his responsibility all the time, I guess with the suit he'd be capable of taking on bigger baddies, with more power comes more responsibility

@@xnenxnly was that a joke?
@@v.rprasad5377 was it?
@@xnenxnly I think it is.
@@v.rprasad5377 ok, then you answered your question.
This is why Spectacular Spider-Man the animated series is the definitive iteration of Spider-Man, for me.

Next.

Hollans spiderman is whiny for no reason
You got a very good point. While Tobey Maguire's and Andrew's Spider-Man actually expressed the true meaning behind his Character, Tom's Spiderman just relies on Tony Stark and Happy to help him.

@@gogeta5549 Look little reddit baby Jr, gonna cry
@Toad Is Forgotten Yeah and y forget he still rejects joining the avengers

DanWorld I agree, Far From Home might really improve
I hope it brings in Uncle Ben and Peter's principle of responsibility. I get that going through the origin is overkill, obviously. But leaving out Ben and his impact on Spidey, made this Peter feel like he was just a naive wannabe Iron Man. He loses his drive that defines why he would be willing to do all that he does. And that drive also makes it all the more compelling when Peter is near quitting from his complications. Go look up the "come on Spider-Man scene" with Danny Elfman's score and Ben's quote. It makes that scene SO much better and poignant.
Far from home will surely improve since Tony Stark is dead, Peter will finally fight on his own

Homecoming is not a spiderman movie but a highschool romcom marvel movie
Having a flaw doesnt make someone have humanity. Learning and adapting from mistakes and successes helps portray humanity.
(Yes, its a bit of a petty thing about Spiderman, but it is true nonetheless.)
I could rip out a fuckton of comics that make even the worst comic book movie, not just the MCU movies, but literally any comic book movie, look like pure gold.
No problemo.
