  • In this episode of The Debrief, former 22 SAS Trooper Big Phil Campion speaks to Krishna Thapa.
Born in Nepal, Krishna's parents had a dream for him to join the Gurkha Regiment before he was even born. A highly prestigious career, open to only 180 recruits from the 20K+ applicants, Krishna was successful and completed junior brecon, before attempting SAS Selection. In his 17 years in the regiment, Krishna has also led the world record attempt for servicemen summiting Mount Everest. Krishna was an integral part of Hari Budha Magar's summit, which was the the first double-above-the-knee amputee to complete the challenge.

SAS Gurkha?! Sounds like the best card you could possibly have in a game of Super Soldier Top Trumps.

I have huge respect and admiration for the Gurkhas but the way they are treated by every UK government is beyond disgraceful and I would stand with these men long before any politician

  • @willienelsongonzalez4609

Without a doubt what Krishna has achieved and done in life is simply mind bending. I am disgusted by how the UK government continues to treat Gurkhas as second class citizens. If these brave men are willing to lay down their lives for Great Britain then they bloody well deserve the exact same pay as their respective UK based counterparts, full benefits and full British citizenship!

Gurkha, SAS, Everest, K2… and such a gentle and compassionate human being. Incredible interview! 👍

  • @nikkijamieson820

The Gurkhas are the most politest assassins you will ever meet we are so lucky to have them by our side . Great interview ❤

As American when I was with the 3/75 we went to Belize and served along side and trained with the 4th Princess Ghurkas. Patrolling the border with Guatemala. Had 5 fire fights with the Guats. None of us were hit. Later in life, served along side the 7th Duke of Edinburgh Ghurkas. That was a fun year! They are true professionals. Totally warriors, ancient warriors. They are violent when it comes to war. I was happy they were on our side. Great sense of humor and genuine guys.

7- 8 tour deployment is an incredible feat. Spiritualism has always been a basic tenet to the Gurkhas and his name Krishna itself means the first one to preach the Bhagavad Gita. Just a top class interview!

You're either the most luckiest person to ever meet a Gurkha, or the most unluckiest person to meet a Gurkha, depends on the situation.

I loved working with the Gurkhas, they never ever got messed with in Chatham, very smart and tough soldiers, every single one of them !! They are a credit to our nation and Nepal !!

  • @Ballentyne817

The sad part is it took an actress joanna lumley and her gurkha welfare trust decades to secure these men and their families British citizenship, the way the British army treated these men behind closed doors was just disgusting. Any man that serves more than 5 years in the British Army if they are not British already should automatically get British citizenship.

Went upstairs to put a hat on just so I could take it off to this guy . Brilliant story

I was lucky to work with the British Gurkhas once in Australia, lovely guy’s so polite and you could not wipe the smiles off their faces 👍🏻🇦🇺💪🏻🥰

  • @jeremypowell8039

Brought up around Brecon and the Gurkhas were so respected and respectful in the area.

Used to help recruit the boys back in Nepal. Central Selection is no joke, and just to make it through Regional is an achievement in itself. The years I was there there were upwards of 16,000 applications for 150 spots. When the pukka hill boys turn up and you see the Goldstar trainers on you know it's on.

Gurkhas are known to be as fearless in combat as they are good natured in daily life. To this day, they remain renowned for their loyalty, professionalism and bravery.
