I was in the Marine Corps Infantry in the early 1990's, Our Platoon Sgt. was on MSG in Nepal and trained a lot with the Gurkha's. He would tell us stories, and during field evolutions he would incorporate Gurkha style training and discipline. Back then I considered myself a hard MF'r, but our Platoon Sgt. was next level hard! For our platoon, training was no joke and the legend of Gurkha's training became very real! Much respect to these warriors.

I see Phil sometimes as he local to me, absolute legend and a gent. This was personal to me as ex Royal Engineer and got posted to 28 in 1991 so hearing that made me laugh, and gib barracks. Got trained by 9 squadron and 59 commandos among others in basic and combat engineer training. We were definitely known for our football in 28 amphibious engineer's. Great pod Phil. Great to meet Ian 9 PARA SQN RE. Such a top bloke.... Obviously he is RE 😂
