Loving the Trivia in this video, Leigh. It was Production Buyer Colin Harris who stood in for Brian Wilde as Foggy Dewhurst for the character’s final appearance in “There Goes the Groom.”. Colin does receive an on-screen credit as Foggy at the end, which is something of a rarity.
Thanks Matthew. I thought I'd mentioned that, but that detail might have vanished in a re-write or edit! Quite often the other stand-ins / doubles do get a credit, but only for being a supporting character like 'shop keeper'!
Somewhere on UA-cam theres an upload of a studio viewing of an episode, for audience reaction. Howard is there singing to an on screen Marina and Frank Thornton struggles to remember his lines.
Hey Leigh when I watched roll on episode Clegg and Compo and Foggy in Cafe Ivy says sit down lol 🤣 she was in a bad mood not doing the catering for the barrel rolling lol that’s funny 🤣
It seems Ivy expects to be the "go to" person for all the local catering and is always put out when she is overlooked. I think catering for the barrel rolling would be just right for her!
More fantastic trivia, thanks as always! I was aware that Stan's daughter was on LOTSW, but it was such a short scene I barely saw her, so that photo of her in the scene is much appreciated. I never heard of the episode @ 4:55, it sounds absolutely hilarious.
Hi DM, glad you enjoyed it! There are so many episodes, you can be forgiven not knowing all of them ... I still have to refer to my notes to remind me what hapened! "The Suit That Turned Left" features a guest appearance of Kenneth Alan Taylor, as the inventor of the magnetism detector.
Here's the production codes for series 19, which would very likely have been allocated in the order the scripts were signed off and funds for the episode apportioned. The production code order is almost certainly the order the writer, Roy Clarke anticipated them being seen in. LEGM160N - There Goes The Groom - 28th December 1997 LEGM161H - Beware Of The Oglethorpe - 4th January 1998 LEGM162B - Tarzan Of The Towpath - 11th January 1998 LEGM163W - Oh Howard, We Should Get One Of Those - 25th January 1998 LEGM164P - The Suit That Attracts Blondes - 1st February 1998 LEGM165J - The Only Diesel Powered Saxophone In Captivity - 8th February 1998 LEGM166D - Perfection - Thy Name Is Ridley - 15th February 1998 LEGM167X - Nowhere Particular - 22nd February 1998 LEGM168R - Truly And The Whole Truth - 18th January 1998 LEGM169K - From Audrey Nash To The Widow Dilhooley - 1st March 1998 LEGM170E - Support Your Local Skydiver - 8th March 1998 So yes it looks very likely that "Truly And The Whole Truth" was brought forward by 5 weeks during this run, making it the 4th episode of the series instead of the 9th, and meaning the saxophone reference appeared 3 weeks before the purchase of the instrument instead of the intended 3 weeks afterwards. It does make me wonder why though. Assuming it's something of a Truly-centric episode, as the title suggests, then maybe it was brought forwards in order to help establish the character of Truly more quickly to an audience who loved Foggy by that point and would have been missing him.
Thanks Danny! I had a few scripts, but not enough to complete the sequence like that, and the script versions I have seen often didn't have the codes on them. I have verified some info with the BBC Written Archive, but as I'm not a "professional" it's near impossible to access in person. Apparently the BBC have very little general documentation in the archive for any series, except series 2. Yes, "Truly And The Whole Truth" is very "Truly" centric, he decides to make the Trio into a "rescue" team, which has similarities to series 6 "In the Service Of Humanity" when Foggy has the same idea!
Great video Leigh about last of the summer wine trivia and I noticed to and said to myself that don’t look like Clegg looking at his bike that’s cool you noticed to
Thanks Scotty! In action and distance shots it is not so noticeable, but I think the way people move - and that he was keeping his face hidden - does give it away when it's not the genuine actor!
At least it is a fairly quiet road. I have recently watched episodes of "Some Mothers Do 'Ave 'Em" and "Til Death us do Part" and in some of the location shots in a town centre, there are dozens of people on the pavement on the opposite side of the road, obviously watching what is going on!
Hi 😊Leigh i Just watched where’s there’s smoke there’s a barbecue and I could tell at the end off the episode that was the stunts off Compo and Clegg and Foggy walking down that lane where the barbecue was
Yes, Scotty - I'm sure you're right! Well spotted. There are clues for each one that it's not Brian, Peter and Bill... It seems odd, as it's not that they had to climb a great hill for a long-distance shot, and they were already at the location. Something that occurs to me is that, assuming they shot the scene in order, either the principle actors went off to get ready to film another sequence elsewhere, or, the shot for the end titles was undecided or changed and the doubles were there, or even filmed it on a different day. Incidentally, nowadays that track is almost impossible to walk along, the stones are so rough and loose, its easy to slip or twist an ankle.
Hi Leigh I liked that extra Chris breeze he was in a few episodes Foggy chatted to him in the cafe about the old days then Chris breeze was in sweet smell of excess smells something in cafe then it was Compo 😆
Hi Scotty, interestingly Chris Breeze is not credited in The Sweet Smell of Excess, although he interacts with Compo, and appears to ask Ivy for two teas, his back is to the camera and the words may have been added later! In his entire tv acting career he only made about 8 appearances!
Hi I watched oh Howard we should get one of those and Barry picked up Clegg Compo Truelove all get in Barry car but as the car turns right there is no Compo or Truelove in the back I noticed
Hey Leigh i liked Eli even though he got small parts but was very funny when he oh it’s you is it 🤣 it’s like he does know them but bad eyes lol 🤣oh it’s you is it 🤣
Eli was supposed to be long-sighted, in one episode he was cycling along way in the distance and called out, but when he got close by he couldn't see who was who!
Leigh, you’ve again found many discrepancies but the one that even a casual viewer like myself spotted was when Compo took a motorcycle ride with his old friend Babs. In Compo’s POV over the shoulder shots “Babs” was so obviously a man that it was laughable. Why couldn’t they find a female biker? Or at least put a wig on the guy! You also mentioned “Extra Extra” which has the honor of being the only episodic I didn’t like. It had a totally contrived plot and at an hour, painfully too long.
I did say that Bab's was male biker Sam Smith ... although they could have done more to make him look more feminine, but remember many of Compo's girlfriends were quite masculine! As a seasonal special "Extra! Extra!" was aimed at an audience in "post-Christmas, pre-New Year, turkey-stuffed stupor" and was more of an entertainment special, rather than part of the normal canon of the series.
Hi Leigh in episode desperate for for a duffield when they after Compo got out off wardrobe they all walked back up that hill I can clearly see there stunts Foggy to and Edie stunt and looked like Wesley stunt to
Great show loved everyone. The cast did have some issues with each other. I know Bill Owen kept himself to himself, he hired a cottage where he would stay while filming LOTSW. The rest stayed in hotels. In Holmfirth or Huddersfield. Peter Sallis in later life had problems with reading scripts as his eyesight was failing. Nick park instantly liked Peters voice, hence why he chose it for the character of Wallace. A couple of characters that were supposed to just have short appearances ended up as regulars, like Robert Fyfe. Kathy staff did not want to carry on after the death of Bill Owen, she was quoted as saying the show won't be the same without Compo. Eventually she left. There were a few fans who didn't like Russ Abbots character. The show went downhill untill it finally end. As they say all good things come to an end...
Hi Matthew. There's always good and bad in everything and everyone, but most importantly, these people and characters we part of our lives for so long and gave so many people so much joy!
A episode called deviations with davenport see the lady’s stunt doubles spinning on Wesley bus chairs lol 😆 Nora stunt and Ivy stunt and Pearl stunt and Glenda stunt then we see them get off normal lol 😆
I wasn't thinking of that one ... good spot! The one I had in mind was just stand-ins, no "stunt" work involved, they were just getting out of the car and walking somewhere ...
Hi Leigh I been watching still open all hours the lady’s in still open all hours have get togethers bit like last of the summer wine lady’s it’s clever how Roy Clarke thinks
Having one of the characters work from home as a hairdresser made an excuse for them to congregate. It's a bit cheeky of Roy, but it does fit in with how they would get together!

The Geste of Robin Hood is set in The Sayles which is just outside Wentbridge, Barnsdale, North Yorkshire.
Still glued to thy screen Leigh 👏👏👏👏, keep em coming, love from new🥝🥝🥝zealand 🥳🥳🥳🥳🥳
😊 thank you Gunner!
Great detective work brilliant
Thank you Peter!

Yea. So glad to see another piece. Thanks for the smiles.
You're welcome!
From Canada with love. Thank you for sharing.

Thank you so much, Patricia!

Thank you! 😃
Hi Leigh when watched the love mobile when Smiler with tandem outside Auntie Wainwright shop I noticed people was watching down the street there

4:54 When I saw Pearl I genuinely thaught this can't be the same actress
WOW 😍
She certainly scrubs up well. Now we know why Howard married her!
Hi I watched oh Howard we should get one of those and Barry picked up Clegg Compo Truelove all get in Barry car but as the car turns right there is no Compo or Truelove in the back I noticed
Well spotted, definitely as Barry pulls out in to the road outside Edie's you can see straight through both back windows and there's no one there!
Hey Leigh i liked Eli even though he got small parts but was very funny when he oh it’s you is it 🤣 it’s like he does know them but bad eyes lol 🤣oh it’s you is it 🤣

Try and spot the episode where 4 out of 5 of the ladies are doubles!
