Basil's portrait here also resembles him in his guilty tape (the one where he's looking at Mari's corpse) a lot more than 16 y/o RW Basil's portraits. This is definitely their younger selves.

Now they're harming each other by knowing what they want to escape from, but what actually shits everything is that they need to try and fix it instead of running. _I don't think he exactly hates Basil, I think he hates the thought of having someone remind him that things have to change, and that he has to get out of his world. He hates the truth._
