I was stationed in Korea in 1984. It was a real treat to watch this game from so far away. The game was tape delayed. The world was not connected instantaneously like it is today. I was stationed at Camp Stanley. Its a fond memory that brings me back in time.

Living in Nashville at the time of this game, our CBS TV affiliate did not air this game. Instead, the station aired some old movie so that a sponsor could sell windows. The station GM, a first class jerk who happened to be shacking up with Dawn Wells from Gilligan's Island, said that nobody cared about college football. He was roasted heavily in the media after this.

This was Black Friday, Nov. 23rd, 1984. It also was my mother's birthday. My father and I took her out to dinner and then Dad and I watched the game. It was fantastic. Neither team could stop the other and the two teams combined for around 1100 yards of offense. A year later my father became ill and by the summer of 1986, he passed away . I would love to have a copy of this game on DVD

Before this game, no one ever heard of Doug Flutie. In this time period people were getting tired of Florida, Florida State, and Miami dominating college football. You have BC fans, you have Miami fans, and then you have underdog fans. The underdog fans far outnumber the team fans. After this game, everyone heard of Doug Flutie. The only bad thing about this game was the world's worst sports commentator -Brent Munsburger.

@@bobroth1951 Incorrect Flutie's name was everywhere in College Football from the time he was a Freshman!!!!!! Second Brent was a good announcer until later in his career!!!!! The Game did cement him for sure I will agree with you there.
Also Everyone thinks that game is the reason he got the Heisman...yes it helped but if you listen to that game you will hear Musberger say" Something to the effect of WHen this Kid goes to to New York and picks up his Heisman Trophy!!!!!! It was pretty much known that he would win.

@@FreedomRock44 I am from Pa. Flutie was not that well known outside of the football college circuit, until this game.
If you google "Worst sports announcers", Brent Munsburger is on many of them. He frequently got player's names and numbers wrong. He did not know what he was talking about most of the time. He did not know how to read ref's hand signals. He was so bad that when he was the announcer, I would turn off the volume on the TV and try to find the game on radio and listen to that announcer, instead of Munsburger, if I could not find the game on a radio station, I simply watched it without audio. It also seemed to me that he was rooting for the favorite team. I do agree that this is the best college football game ever.

@@bobroth1951 Actually, Flutie was very popular even prior to playing Miami. He was up top with all the collegiate passing records and Heisman candidate. This game made him the frontrunner. As for the Florida teams, the Florida Gators weren't a player during that point in time. Many years of violations from the Charlie Pell era and pre Spurrier. Florida State had yet to win a major bowl and wouldn't get their first title until a full 10 years later. Miami was on the map but only had the 1 previous title from 1983 and weren't great in 84. During this period the Big 8, Big 10, SEC, SWC and Penn State were still on top in college football.

None of the players have those idiotic fake-ass hair extensions, nobody dances, struts, flexes, or does gladiator poses for simply making a tackle, and we don't have to wait minutes on end while the commentators tell us again and again "it has to be indisputable video evidence." I liked how, after Bratton scored what he thought would be the winning TD for Miami, Doug Flutie of B.C. simply nodded his head calmly and went over to the sideline, as if to recognize the apparently herculean task ahead of him (drive down the field to beat Miami with a TD); of course, we all knew (maybe not then, but we certainly do now in hindsight) that he would be up to the task, and then some.
