Not a loophole at all. Appeals must be made before the next play. A review of the umpire's decision on the appeal must be requested within 20 seconds. This is pretty easy to understand. The umpire did what he was supposed to do: Watch the ball.

Can we appreciate the fact that the umps held their ground with the guy that wrote the rules…and they got it right! I think that’s what every player, coach and fan ultimately wants. To make the right call.
Before replay position players used to routinely miss tagging bases and umps basically gave it to them. Except for first base because umps actually looked at the feet when they tagged it.
@@KTF0 "the turn" at second base. When I started umpiring, I was taught early that if the fielder is in the same zip code as second base to give them the out on the force.
I think it’s a good thing they checked. I want teams to focus on the most meritorious challenges. Challenges that shouldn’t have been made are a bigger waste of time than mound visits, and sometimes the ruling is wrong anyway.
It really was brilliant. It took me a second to figure out how they got around it. Really though, MLB could probably just copy the NFL and allow coaches or umps to review scoring plays or specifically, plays-at-the-plate if there is a legitimate concern over home plate contact or possession of the ball or whatever...
3:40 I think there is an "h" missing on-screen, for the word "sould", no doubt, Is supposed to have one, so I'm appealing that the editor _should_ be called out. Just like the baserunner had to hit the base, The captions editor cannot forget the "h". 😂
But even after the safe call, if the player had gone back to touch the plate, they wouldn't have been able to appeal. The reason Burnes stepped off of the plate and threw to home was so that the catcher could step on the plate and effectively get the force out at home. If the runner had touched the plate, even after being called safe, there is no grounds for appeal because they still have to have the ball while touching the plate to record the out.
He called the safe signal, he didn’t call the runner safe until the appeal at the plate. Safe is used for no catch, no obstruction, no fan interference, and important in this situation, no interference by a runner. He was ruling that the runner was not guilty of interference when he was hit by the ball...
@@rickhaavisto9023 well he waited until the runner was way past the plate almost back in the dugout to only rule no interference. And then rules safe on the appeal too.
Zed A way to challenge a base running mistake, without the runner being there... Things like passing base without touching (advancing or retreating), and leaving to early (before ball that is caught is first touched)
I disagree that it's a loophole. The challenged play is not the runner failing to touch Home. The challenge is the appeal, which the umpire missed for a completely fair reason. Replay was implemented in large part to help get correct plays that umpires cannot get correct in real time because of unpredictable demands placed on them. The missed call was the appeal play. Replay got it right. It's not a "bug" in the rules. It's a feature.

Be honest, I know you all chuckled at La Russa’s eyeballs going haywire 😂
That eye dart loop was damn hilarious
Excellently executed, good job Counsell.
This was BRILLIANTLY DONE by Counsel. Good Job!
This all could have been avoided if the dude touched home plate 🤦🏻♂️
Amazing rundown by Jomboy as always though 🔥🔥🔥
Umpires: "Counsell is technically correct. The best kind of correct"
"Don't quote me regulations. I co-chaired the committee that reviewed the recommendation to revise the color of the book that regulation's in... We kept it grey!"
He's not, though.
GIVE US A BREAKDOWN ON THE MARINERS COMEBACK LAST NIGHT WITH THE EJECTION AND GRANDSLAM
Jomboy I'd love to see a breakdown of the Mariners comback against the Astros yesterday!
Can we appreciate the fact that the umps held their ground with the guy that wrote the rules…and they got it right! I think that’s what every player, coach and fan ultimately wants. To make the right call.
Incredible choice for the freeze-frame at 3:36
Lesgo Jomboy vid makes everything better
The only thing LaRusa knows better than the rulebook is the price of a 30 pack at your local beer distributor
We are waiting for the Baez walk off breakdown, Jimmy
Fr
and the beanball brawl coming next game....
One of your better breakdowns right here as far as I’m concerned. Top 3
@3:16 this is gold. I was dying with the close up
when he said "hey come here a minute" wiggling his finger in slow motion all i could think about was "why dont you have a seat"
3:02 holy crap, La Russa is still alive?! I thought he was old in the early 90's...
search up tony la russa hat on google, you’ll laugh a bunch
LOL, if managing a first place team is alive, then I guess he's still kicking.
@@johnhill6412 heh, yeah, I think the qualifies
Memoria
Before replay position players used to routinely miss tagging bases and umps basically gave it to them. Except for first base because umps actually looked at the feet when they tagged it.
really puts the HIGH in high level.
MLB players need to do the hop and land on both feet on the plate move.
It's almost like the NBA with traveling
@@KTF0 "the turn" at second base. When I started umpiring, I was taught early that if the fielder is in the same zip code as second base to give them the out on the force.
I think it’s a good thing they checked. I want teams to focus on the most meritorious challenges. Challenges that shouldn’t have been made are a bigger waste of time than mound visits, and sometimes the ruling is wrong anyway.
i love these........... and these break downs. great stuff. youre the best.
Tony LaRussa arguing for 10 minutes about a rule he made to help pace of play. Classic.
This might be my favorite replay, smart move by the brew crew
It really was brilliant. It took me a second to figure out how they got around it. Really though, MLB could probably just copy the NFL and allow coaches or umps to review scoring plays or specifically, plays-at-the-plate if there is a legitimate concern over home plate contact or possession of the ball or whatever...
The smart move wouldve been challenging right away as it was blatantly obvious he missed the plate.
Agreed but brew crew is the worst name lmao
Cheaters
We need the javy walk off
there's nobody better than jomboy at breaking down these vids
I don’t live in America, and I don’t like baseball. But geez I am entertained by these Jomboy videos. Thanks for the recommendation Mr UA-cam.
TLR: I AM, THE RULE!
Umps: Not. Yet.
NO MARINERS GAME? there was an ejection and a 7-0 comeback
Hey Jomboy can you breakdown the Mariners grand slam and Astros pitcher ejection?
How tf did astros lost the game 🤣🤣
@@shin29534 no idea but we'll take it!!!!!!!
So glad I found this channel
I was at this game and we were so confused. So glad to finally know what happened.
Gotta love the Brewers here. Not screaming, not freaking out, just calm and relaxed. Love it
I love how civil tony la russa was being. Not one time did he yell or get in the umps’ faces.
He got thrown out the game prior lol
It was almost like he was a professional... who would have thought.
@@chesterthompson6835 man. I guess he is isn’t he. That’s crazy. Never thought about it
Oh, Jomboy. Thank you for helping us forget about all the bullshit going on in the world for a few minutes. Love a good loophole.
I am glad you explained it , I am a Brewer fan and I did not know what was going on !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
This is my first time seeing Jomboy. I’m going to need a moound visit to determine if I ever want to see it again
Tony likes to stand up for rules but not players that’s a nice manager they have there in the south side of Chicago
They’re 1st in there Division…
@@hobbs12cats I know he is a good manager but he really likes to stand up for rules
The irony is that the whole point of replay is to get the call right, but Tony doesn't care about that if it's going against him 🤔
Put a mustache on Tony La Russa and he’s the MyPillow Guy.
best edit ever of la rosa eyes at 3:12
This is some of the most entertaining and informative commentary of a baseball game. 👍
3:40 I think there is an "h" missing on-screen, for the word "sould", no doubt,
Is supposed to have one, so I'm appealing that the editor _should_ be called out.
Just like the baserunner had to hit the base,
The captions editor cannot forget the "h". 😂
Also at 3:07, "mound" is incorrect. They have it as "moound."
@@SuperSonic_868 yup noticed that too, simple spelling mistakes are easy to make.
how is this a Jomboy breakdown without the word "horseshit", tossed in?
LETS GOOOOOO
@@Triplechomending I was gonna fucking say bro, where is it... Let's go!
Most underrated comment Jim!
Because no one involved in the argument said it.
Can we get a breakdown on the Mariners from last night jomboy?
Your video editor is the best, Jomboy.
Nothing more entertaining than JomBoy
If he called him safe, the runner has no recourse the play is over.
A R Ok? So you agree with me that the original commenter is wrong that the umpire ruled the runner safe until the appeal?
Appeal plays are different, the umpires got it right. Which is great because Tony La Russa was on the losing side
What is an appeal?
Zed A way to challenge a base running mistake, without the runner being there...
Things like passing base without touching (advancing or retreating), and leaving to early (before ball that is caught is first touched)
Can you do a breakdown on javy baez getting revenge on amir garrett
Yeah came here to ask this. Gotta do the Mago Walk off of Garrett. The footage is shit, didnt get the bat toss but still.
@@mccards he'll probably find a camera angle that has it somehow
@@juliantorres3239 mlb and marque has a unbelievable angle on the replay

Incredible breakdowns as usual. Over 2 million views. I hope you are saving your money jomboy.
Hope to see some of the Doyers/Gigantes you on here!! With the series involving the two best teams in baseball and 3 crazy game endings, only way this series doesn’t end up on here is east coast bias. Hopefully we get one!!
U
The policy should be "get the call right"
If that were really the case, humans wouldn't still be calling balls and strikes
the ump had a ball fly at him bro, its natural human reactions for him to focus his attention on the baseball thats about to hit him and off the plate
@@mattdeaver6850 Human umpires are more accurate than the existing technology in real time.
The rules allowed for the call to be right........
C'mon guys, touching the base/plate is baseball 101.
im always baffled by pro players not touching the plate...its like the main objective of baseball, no?😂
You guys never messed up something you do really well 99.9% of the time? They are human too and crap happens...
I dont play baseball so correct me if im wrong but wouldnt the player feel that he didnt touch the plate? like not feeling the flat and hard object on your cleats?
@@Jadiaz-ev9hm they are human. league minimum is also over $500,000 a year. while people do make mistakes it's frustrating when someone who gets paid an absurd amount of money makes a mistake like that.
@@connorwilliams5910 Only frustrating if it costs a life, does physical harm, or you gamble and it costs you money. Though if someone does gamble and loses, that's more on them than the player.
Yeah that get compensated well to play a game, doesn't mean they are perfect. Holding anyone to that high of a standard just makes more stress for ones self than anything.
Somebody on the Milwaukee team probably has a law degree. The Brewers figured out that it was too late to challenge the safe call. So they opted to challenge the "appeal denied" call. Great job finding that loophole!
It's challenging touching a base. But there is nothing to challenge until after the appeal is denied, as that requires an appeal before the challenge.
I don’t even like baseball but I watch this whole video 🤣😂 great job
