In general, over the years, the SLn circle, which selects representatives for global competitions, has attempted to select a western-looking girl in order to game the system and win the crown. This is a poor strategy, and I'm sure it will never work. It's not just about how they appear. Simple words, someone who grew up in a niche Colombo culture cannot deliver much in comparison to what the country requires from competitions like that. If people who are half exposed to and half linked to Western cultures can become influential competitors, then girls from Western countries should anyway be able to win those crown. People like Rozan, Naddeka, and probably Aruni have been the most successful representatives with a Sri Lankan flavor in recent years, in my opinion. Sri Lankans should try to develop people like that, who have grown up primarily in Sri Lankan culture with an average Sri Lankan background. When this group of people stop this joke, as a country we will find someone like Toni-Ann Singh. Some of the international schools are not even the part of the Sri Lankan culture but, thankful to their inner circle they always get the opportunities and thrive in certain things. Sri Lanka needs to fill this gap.
I totally agree with this! I think Nadeeka was probably one of the few Miss Sri Lanka's that actually looked Sri Lankan. I really hope that these idiots one day realize that we need to have Miss Sri Lanka that looks like a local and can actually speak a local language without a posh english accent.

She is absolutely pretty. Having a background with a mix of European ethnicity or some other will definitely make her look pretty. But unfortunately that won’t give the authentic Sri Lankan look. Obviously she is not someone who is coming out of middle cast family and culture. As usual Sri Lanka makes the same mistake again and again by sticking in to a sweet western looking pretty face during selection. Language might be an added advantage. But we see plenty of non English speaking contestants winning the crown too.. And they have got that authentic look of their nation..
As I previously stated, their lack of comprehension is reflected in the issues they bring to the world stage. The real issues in the country could be something like the fertiliser issue, or ethnic harmony to march as a nation. What exactly is ocean pollution? It has not yet had a significant negative impact on human lives, and I don't see why this should be discussed on a global scale; simple, it's easy and one can easily avoid true issues by centering towards an unimportant issue like this. The issue of fertiliser is a growing one. Whether organic or chemical, both are causing problems now. For me, how someone looks is unimportant if they are truly committed to representing a country. Or the class divide in society that prevents the underprivileged community in Sri Lanka from representing certain things. Can ever a rural girl represent such a thing ? Is there a mechanism in place to train those girls ? Those are the topics on which one would converse.
What?? How can anyone logically make such a statement as to say a skin color is associated with a country. We are living at a time the whole world is so small when it comes to interconnectivity. Who can even think of such a comment or idea ( frog in the well scenario)? There are millions of examples of Beauty Pageants where they have sent contestants of different color. US and England send contestants of different color to the international pageants all the time. Some of the countries that are mentioned in these comments too have contestants won international pageants with contestants who DOES NOT EXEMPLIFY their average women (common looking women) in their own country. So why this brought up only about Sri Lanka. Just visit the comments of other countries' videos on UA-cam or any other media. Even if they choose a girl without a limb (just for trying to make the point), those countries make the fault look SO POSITIVE on their comments and you will see only thousands of positive comments supporting and uplifting their country. So the country is united as ONE. So what's happening in Sri Lanka ?????? Are these people making negative comments here really Sri Lankans? Or could be a group that is assigned (or paid) to bad mouth Sri Lanka? These international pageants are so fierce that, could these people be from other countries making calculated negative comments here on the Sri Lankan page and discrediting the Sri Lankan contender so their country will have an advantage over Sri Lanka??? This happens when they fear of some countries that might do well than their own country. Sri Lankans are not familiar with these techniques. But these are some of the tricks used by some groups of people to discredit and harm the opportunity of other countries. So please be aware of these comments. Social Page Managers, you must do a better job than this to catch such activity especially when it comes to Sri Lankan beauty pageants. There are lot prowling around to harm our Sri Lankan brand. It's your job to keep these negative, harmful comments in control especially if it's coming from impersonators and other countries. Sade is one of the best representatives of Sri Lanka.
