Your trans dyno serves its purpose as a diagnostic tool quite well. Some comments suggest that it’s an older model but that shouldn’t matter if the data is accurate. More videos of this type would be appreciated 🏁
I get the impression that the older C4 and C6 stuff I like is preferred over the newer electronically controlled models. No problems with the older Dyno. I’m older and still work great too 🤷♂️.
Jaye your the man, that b&m dacron filter and adaptor lost 10 psi and when I put a 904/727 mesh filter in it picked up 5psi all this at 145 to155 psi and squealed worse with those until I installed a C4 filter with a round hole for an extension tube to suit the deep b&m pan
Thanks for sharing that info. I hadn't noticed a significant difference in pressure myself but I have seen pans where this flat filter is too close to the bottom of the pan causing the issues your talking about.
@@BroaderPerformance that came after being told by a trans specialist locally it wouldn't make a difference and measuring the pan and filter depth of 3/4 of an inch I was surprised also, in fact the testing was all Greg's idea lol. Oh I am looking forward to your stock C4 build, that will be a cracker and thank you again.
I like the diagnostic process. Seeing what happens when its not right. My c4 i built and put the trans go manual kit in it. Got it all together no reverse everything else perfect. Went through it twice. Even though it air checked good. Long story short i missed the part when it still needs the vacuum modulator. Or it has to much pressure. Hangs the 1-2 shift valve open i believe. Hooked vacuum up has reverse.
@@BroaderPerformance i had to call trans-go their help line told me that even full manual needs the vacuum modulator for reverse with their kit. Kit 42-3 if i remember correctly.
I did like this series. I am newer to the channel, found it in a mechanics page of people trying to spread the word of the copy cat stuff. I am guessing this is an older trans dyno. I had never seen one or been around one and not what I thought it would be, so it was very informative to me. Keep up the good work!
Great video I like that you got to keep after it until the problem was found, this is the exact reason I prefer modified builds over stock myself. I am curious about what changes you use to the stock valve body for this build, would be great if you could do a video on some of your favorite valve body mods and how or why you do the ones you do when working with more or less stock full auto stuff. I am sure I could learn a lot from a video like that. Thanks for Sharing.
This was great! No one ever posts the fix. That dyno, as archaic is it might seem DEFINITELY tells the story. Jay, is your C4 forward-pattern transbrake valvebody going to be on the website soon?
@@BroaderPerformance Back in the '90s I remember my boss showing me a FORD technical sheet that stated if you are having issues with no movement after first start for the day switch to Dex/Merc from Type F
I have used these. They seem to work good for about a year or so then they start to drip a little. Tightening up the bolts only helps for a little while. Permatex has a new kind of product that takes the place of many gaskets and is easy to remove. But I have never tried it.

It's an older Dyno but works great for all the old transmissions I build.

I always learn something new from your videos.
Thanks.
Thank you, I'm glad it helped.
Thanks Jay keep the diagnostic videos coming !
I'll see what I can do. Thanks for watching.

My first C4 rebuild I installed the modulator spool valve in backwards. Live and learn!
Easy to do thats for sure.
Love the dyno videos. Gives a great insight into troubleshooting.
Im glad it helped. Thanks for watching.

That's interesting. I wouldn't think not hooking up the modulator would cause no reverse. Transmissions can drive you crazy.

Very interesting, notice the converter pressure picked up also with the governor corrected . Good result . Really enjoy every one of your vids.
Good call. The governor had a leak with the valve turned backwards so we were losing some flow through it.
I enjoy the videos Jay, bloopers or not. Always wanting to learn from the best.
Thank you I appreciate that.
Great video Jay! Cool to see it all worked out.
Thank you. We appreciate the support
like to see full view of entire dyno..sounds like straight 6.
used those b&m adapters before , switched to bronco pan/filter. great content..
I'll do more on the Dyno in the future. It has a V6 on it.

The new ones have electric motors on them. Mine is an old gas engine dyno. I like it over the electric ones honestly.
Great job.I liked and shared. I hope this helps. All my very best.

I'll be doing more on valves bodies for sure but I do have to keep a few secrets.
great follow up vid.
Thanks!
Thanks for the update. Good stuff.

Jay, is your C4 forward-pattern transbrake valvebody going to be on the website soon?
FWD brake hopefully within a month from now.
@@BroaderPerformance I'd like to own the first one. Don't forget about me...
Great ending!... Have you ever done a video on building a transmission dyno/test bench would like to build one of my own..
I have not. I built a valve body Dyno years ago but never documented it.
I'm in the process of dealing with my c4 but I'll get it sooner or later
They can be frustrating. Good luck with your project.
Is F type fluid still what is typically used in a modern built C4? Thanks
Yes
Dex 3 is a much better option.
I recommend the dexron 3. Modern clutches are designed for it and type f is getting harder to find.

What are your thoughts on that full rubber blue pan gasket?

I'm not real familiar with them honestly. I like that it's reusable but I'm not sure about the long term.
.. that should have the black stripe vacuum modulator i believe, not the Green stripe .. 🧰👨🔧
NO black stripe for a C4. I normally use the green stripe.
@@BroaderPerformance .. is it better than a black stripe, because i'll start using one on my C6 if it is ..
great follow up vid.
