Sad story. I think the author is very insightful. People and circumstances were so different from today. She shows that she has intuition and intelligence to reconcile two completely different worlds to produce such a thought-provoking piece of history.

Wonderful (and sad) story. Great picture of life in the/prior to The Great Depression. Also, Seth is my favorite name ;o) TY, Eric & Kelly!

The part that is left out of the book is Iva, because what kind of sick #$uk gets the child he raised pregnant, the author saying that Iva got into trouble getting pregnant by her uncle made me want to vomit. You have it backwards lady, the sociopath, seth, is the one who got into trouble. Do you think the author ran it through her head that Iva told the police about the bodies because she had time away from him, and this would be her only chance to have the guy locked up. The guy probably threatened to kill her if she talked, and had controlled her since she was a toddler. This book should never have been written. Daddy, oh im sorry, I meant hubby. Seriously.

This is the most un-expert "expert" I've ever listened to. Seems like she's trying to convince herself

He married his aunt and then his stepdaughter/cousin?? Maybe that wasn't unusual for country folk in those days but it sounds a bit odd to modern city-dwellers.
