It's probable that the balloon is much cheaper that the missile that took it down. Not even talking about operating cost of an F-22.
@@philippe2715 It was a pure flex from the US on China like the video said. They wanted to show the capabilities of their weapons, especially the F-22. In war whoever controls the sea and skies will win and the F-22 is barnone the best in the world i mean for god sakes it perfectly shot down that balloon at 58,000 ft!!! This was strictly done to show off what we can and will do to them.

That’s the way the usa rolls. Instead of sams they use planes to shoot down air threats.
That's the most accurate explanation I've heard yet

Just say you are poor buddy 😂
They're just flexing.
Imagine you're a big and strong adult and a little kid comes up to you and starts kicking and punching you while you are just standing there and laughing and when the little kid is done and exhausted, befor it leaves you finish it off with a roundhouse kick just to show off.
You can call that a little unnecessary but they seemingly got something out of it...
"There was a war going on but a US fighter jet was popping a balloon with missile." That would be hard to explain to future generations.
History had much much weirder stuff.
The most expensive fighter jet's role is to attack a balloon, very disappointing 😜😜😜
The hard thing to explain is why we decided to get involved at all. With a war that has nothing to do with us against a country that has done nothing to us. Balloon is simple to explain, it violated our airspace. Reason enough to shoot i down. Huge waste of money to use a missile. That is not gonna have a good explanation because thats just for showing off
Is it true it took three missiles to take down a slow moving balloon that's the size of three school buses, the first two missed?
Wat Is the size of the ballon ? 😂
Truly one of the dogfights of all time. The pilot is now immortalized…

This indeed a historical event for America as a nation. This was truly an impossible mission no other countries would have been able to take down that hideous balloon. The pilote should receive a medal of honor.
Lol
Canada Failed...or rather didn't even notice....these days Canada is pretty much failing at everything.
Canadian pilots failed to take down a balloon in the 1980's lol.
Casually moving across the US mainland for days 🤔 Canada probably never even realised it was there 😬
🤣
canadian military has access to norad, so no reason to think they weren't aware... how you choose to respond has more to do with politics on the ground than anything else.
😂😂😂
Probably would have had a flock of geese peck it down…but they were out of season.?
NORAD is a joint component that includes Canada as well. So Canada does know that the balloon was there.
The reason they did not use bullets is because, the Balloon is filled with helium - if you put a hole in the ballon it'll not just pop, rather it'll just leak out slowly and take hours or even days to go down.
Previously, the Canadian Air force as well shot down a balloon, but it took more than 1000 rounds and it still didn't go down.
So it's not just to demonstrate air superiority, rather a one hit kill using the missile was the most effective, faster, better approach to take the balloon down.
lmao shooting down a somewhat around 100 dollar euipment with a costly missile🤣totally waste of money
if china sends 1000s of ballon US needs to double their military expenditure
but why need f22. f16 is way more then good enough.
Now...
the US most sophisticated F22 has fired three missiles (AUM-9X) to shoot down the balloon !!,
one hit, two misses,
costing US$3 million+.

(I know the western media told you it’s one, but who do you trust more, Americans / Brits / Chinese when it comes to mathematics?)
🤔🤔🤔
👇👇👇
Probably because the balloon didn’t speak any English except the very first question “what pronoun shall I use if you have two moms?” It’s a democratic F22 that can’t stand any prejudice, perceived and actual.
🤣🤣🤣
👇👇👇
The F22 is now a very well battle-tested machine with the first ever victory, 👉 against a balloon !! 🤣🤣🤣
👇👍👇
Allies (the Australia, Canada, Japan,Korea even India) will now rush to buy the best of the best battle-tested aircraft. !!
🤣🤣🤣
Go Brandon...! !
@@louiswu6300 Because the max altitude of F16 is 50,000 ft while that of F22 is 58,000 ft and the balloon is above 60,000ft+, so obviously the F22 was the better suited choice for the mission.
@@doom5950 the balloon and its equipment cost at least a few million. Plus, the f22 has been bought and paid for, so the cost is negligible. Plus, if china did something as pointless as sending 1000s of balloons, the easiest defense is a high powered laser or Patriot missiles. Also, en masse, the air national guard would scramble f16s
As though you were explaining things in my local language, so educative and precise, thank you.

Also, in international practice, China would know the whereabouts of its devices and would contact countries before any serious misunderstandings could damage relationships. Why didn't the Canadian government take it down. Clearly, games are being played here.
I for one don't know if China informed Canada of the balloon. Furthermore, perhaps Canada chose not to down the balloon since it didn't appear to have caused them any problems. Therefore they chose to not risk harm to anyone on the ground or to the environment.
@@cassiespencer6134 I love your common sense, that was a very intelligent explanation, some of us realize what is up will come down, I think three bus's would be pretty heavy 🪨
@@mikemitchell8329 I must've ridden the short bus that day so please explain to me what you meant by three bus's. Or perhaps I missed that lecture. ;)
Surely it was a tough battle between the 5th gen ultrasonic stealth mighty f-22 raptor and the Chinese balloon, firstly the balloon was in the lead and almost passed the American territory without being even touched by the American army but in the end the f22 finally got a lead a locked on the Balloon, it was a really tensed moment for the American government and the army. They were veiwing the live shots of the battle. This shoot down was broadcasted all around the country. The f22 used one of the most dangerous missile in its arsenal. The balloon tried its best to catchup with mighty f22 but couldn't do so due to f22's stealth ability.
Victory for USA and the f22 raptor. Maybe a national holiday is to be declared for this event.

Good job Amit. I didn't know about the "Frank" call sign. Interesting, amongst other things you stated.🏁🏁🏁
How on earth you get to know all this? Superb!
The 20MM round could have been used even if the bird could not go to 65000 ft. The rounds would have reached the ballon quicker than the missile.
Canada fired bullets at a similar balloon some years ago, didn't work.
shit cant do anything to a balloon
How are you
I wonder if it's possible to make another balloon/drone to try and capture a spy balloon instead of destroying it. Would obviate the need to try and find the wreckage afterwards, and the device would be almost immaculately preserved, so they would have a better idea of what it was really doing.
Perhaps that's why they waited for it to be over the ocean...
@@guydesnoyers8417 I don't think so. The thing is going to be destroyed from the missile, not the impact of hitting the ground. And it's probably harder to find something that drops into the ocean rather than on land, I don't think it would be floating, it probably sunk to the bottom.
There's a technique which uses an aircraft (a modified C-130) to capture parachuted film capsules detached and dropped from satellites. I'm not sure whether this technique can also be used to capture the balloon. But 1 thing for sure is that a C-130 can't exceed an altitude of 40,000 feet.
balloon wars
Such would be more feasible, if even possible and safer, by using a fixed wing aircraft in order 'snag' the balloon. Look up: "Fulton surface-to-air recovery system" and then imagine converting it in order it be employed to capture (snag) balloons at altitude. I know! It's a crazy idea, although some believed the first hot air balloons and aircraft, even after the Wright Brothers, were suicidal endeavors. I even contemplated the same outcome prior to my first solo flight. ;)
exceptional content very good research..
Imagine two super powers playing with balloons🎈 f 22 might feeling embarrassed alone somewhere else after he shoot poor balloon🤭🤭🎈.Mrs china why did u send balloon? and Mr usa why did you shoot balloon ? Bravo .😂😄😗next episode must be continue with kites, papers jets etc😀😘😘
Should have used MOAB for this 😅.
- the infrared sensor was replaced by an infrared colour sensing head
- it is not easy to shot a moving object down in a height of 18 km above ground level
- the usage of a machine gun would have allowed to ballon to still continue driving, and possibly past the US territory
- they used the sidewinder, because this would make an aimed shot possible, which ensures as straight as possible vertical drop of the balloon's payload
- the US and Canada allowed it to pass over, because they wanted to see what it does
As we see on the image, there are large solar panels and antenna mounted at the payload. It had been stopped several times to stand still over certain target points. A weather balloon would not be able to do that. This is not a weather balloon. From knowing what the Chinese are looking at the US knows what they are busy with.
Great comment. Last sentence is very thought provoking.
they like to copy so its a leaf off US balloon.

Excellent statement
Means they already got what they wanted ?
One of the most hysterical moments on TV .
Looking at the launch and trajectory that the balloon followed across the world and through america...it looks sooooo much like that balloon was actually directionally controlled.
Absolutely it is directed and controlled at all times. It is not a free floating balloon as china makes it sound. This is chinas go to move, lie about what it really is and then condemn the U.S for shooting it down.
@@sharkattack3524 And then they asked for the debris back immediately it was removed from the water lol.... sometime china needs a good slap across the smarmy grinning face... just to remind them they are still in that primitive stage!
Of course, directionally controlled by the panels/instruments underneath the balloon.
“Why did the US use an F22?” There was discussion about assigning the mission to an X-Wing fighter, but in the end it came down to the F22 or the original Wright Flyer, and….
Probably because Langley, VA has an F-22 base and in Elmendorf, Alaska it has F-22's as part of the ANG fighter wing lol. It's what is there.
F-22 was more like a experiment aircraft and a expensive limited success
ofc its not a multi role jet
This use by the US''S most advanced and expensive warplane and air to air missile to down sn unarmed harmless civilian weather balloon flying in the international stastrosphere well above 65000 feet where US air space ends has demonstrated that all this military equipment is effective against an unarmed civilian balloon!
There is no international law or treaty of where a country's airspace ends. Satellites are at a minimum 520,000 ft. "Space" starts at 325,000 ft. 10000 ft. is the unofficial acceptance of most countries as "international" airspace. The SR-71 flew at 90,000 ft. in the 70s and the Soviets tried to shoot it down many times but couldn't. The U2 spy plane flew at 70,000 ft and was shot down and pilot captured. Did the Americans complain that it was "international space"?
What have China's military have shown? That it is good in parades and shooting missiles over Taiwan? How many real wars and battles have any, just ONE Chinese military equipment been proven to be effective? How many countries want to buy cheap Chinese military equipment? Maybe a few third world countries mainly in Africa and Indochina because they are too poor to buy real modern western military equipment.
If they are of old Soviet design which most are, we can see in the war in Ukriane, it is garbage.
There is reason why the world laughs at the "made in China" tag. Good cheap labor for products of low tech or no tech.
do you know for a fact it was above 65k ft? i doubt it...
also, its of no concern for an eggroll like you as to what the US does in its airspace, if pooh bear can't keep his toys out of our yard, then he won't get his honey pot back.
F-22 THE BALLOON KILLER.
The more detail you give the funnier it gets
Yes indeed, the USA wanted a bit of theatrics.
Original Canadian tracking showed that the balloon was actually traveling west over the high Arctic -- presumably part of the survey series for the Arctic sea routes China intends to cost set against the Panama one. Note that another balloon was in action over central America and probably also measuring currents and winds around the proposed expanded Panama Canal.
China has very many land and sea survey launch points including ones in Russia co operated with Russia. Inter country research (civilian) is based in many universities and similar balloons and balloon mild accidents were reported on in the Antarctic and southern oceans in 2021.
The whole context is vital here and it is most unlikely that the northern balloon was intended to be turned so far south over populated Canada or the USA, especially as it is known that it encountered the contrary weather front over the Beaufort Sea.
The Sidewinder is old technology and mainly heat-seeking. The F-22 was not a good choice for obtaining intel and footage on the payload and it appears that wreckage from it is spread over 8 sq miles in shallow water off S Carolina.
Expense aside, the USAF made a bungled mess of a "fish in a barrel" operation and had apparently not spotted the balloon the north west land mass until told by the Canadians. Shades of 9/11!
The AIM-9X also has Infrared Spectrum, it’s not old. And China was definitely steering the balloon intentionally to the US.
"GO Murica" fanboys in the background......
It's a balloon!!
@@nekopop8159 China has much more capabilities in espionage why a clumsy baloon
It was NORAD that spotted it. NORAD is a joint American-Canadian component.
