    I remember in 1985 when Michael J. Fox had the #1 and #2 movie at the SAME TIME and also a Top 5 show --- he was a superstar

      Not bad for a guy who was selling his furniture to eat and using the pay phone in front of his apartment because he couldn't afford a home phone not long before that.

      Justine Bateman tells a story about driving down Sunset and seeing a Billboard for Back To The Future, Teen Wolf and Family Ties. Even today that's insane.

      @@breakercassidy6946 I think the only person who came close was Prince --- in one week in 1984, he had the #1 album, #1 song, and #1 movie all at once!

    It always strikes me how different the tone of late night was back then, much more natural, not a lot of manufactured laughs, editing and such. You even have those quiet, award moments that happen naturally. Miss it.

    • @DrVVVinK
      @DrVVVinK Рік тому +11

      That's because back then there was no youtube or on demand. Late night was for the weirdo, night owls, college crowed up late. It was only meant to be seen once, and if you missed it (unless you had a VCR to record it) when it aired, you never saw it. Now "late night tv" is not really "late night", because it isn't made for that crowed, but for youtube clips to watch at 2 in the afternoon, while one is at work and hardly working.

      @@DrVVVinK I'm a weirdo who doesn't work and love to watch the early releases like Seth Myers Closer Look and Jimmy Kimmel, but also prefer to wait for Colbert monologue upload right around midnight after it's actually aired, or even John Oliver right after it's aired. Anywho, peace to all the freaks ✌️🤘

    This is pure Letterman legend! He asks questions that nobody else asks. He makes him uncomfortable about, "Teen Wolf". He asks direct questions about money/gross/net. MJ Fox is a trooper, and he handles it well. I wish more celebrities would not be threatened by honest (Lettermanesqe) interviews. The people love it!

    I love watching my favourite stars from the movies and TV shows I loved as a kid giving interviews to great hosts like Letterman and Carson. Back then, I wouldn't have understood half of the context or meaning of their working lives, but now it really gives me a renewed appreciated for such stars, like Michael J. Fox.

    Michael Andrew Fox (Edmonton, Alberta, 9 de junio de 1961), más conocido como Michael J. Fox, es un actor canadiense-estadounidense retirado. Su carrera en el cine y la televisión comenzó a finales de los años setenta. Entre sus papeles se destacan Marty McFly en la trilogía de Regreso al futuro (1985-1990); Alex Keaton en Enredos de familia (1982-1989), por la cual ganó 3 premios Emmy y 1 Globo de Oro, y Mike Flaherty en Spin City (1996-2000), por la cual ganó 1 Emmy, 2 Globos de Oro y 2 SAG. Tras iniciar su carrera como actor con el nombre de Michael Fox, el canadiense añadió la letra J. para no coincidir con el intérprete del mismo nombre y como homenaje a otro actor: Michael J. Pollard.

    • @allendracabal0819
      @allendracabal0819 Рік тому

      These shows have a pre-interview so that Dave knows what to ask. So MJF would have already talked about this with someone a little earlier. (Fred, perhaps?) These questions are not exactly coming out of left field.

    • @leonardstilwell1894
      @leonardstilwell1894 Рік тому +2

      My comment was somewhat tongue-in-cheek as I know talk show interviews are often pre-planned :) Even so, I could see MJF wondering why so many questions centered on his brushes with fame, but just shrugging it off and going woth the flow. I wonder if he found them boring and that informed his appearance that night.
