Here's two keys. 1) Hold the stretches for at least 30 sec to a minute or longer. 2) Don't stretch every day if you want to improve. Stretch every other day at max. You need to let the body heal between training. Just like weight lifting, you need recovery time. If you are already as flexible as you want then everyday is all right because you are not causing micro tears to the tissues.
The thing is, with learning anything or gaining strength or flexibility - the more you try to rush it, the longer it will take. Make training a part of your routine and you're not even going to CARE about the time it takes. Rushing will only lead to injuries, do things because you love it, not because you are angry at your current situation with your body/whatever! ❤👍💪
Spot on. Really hate when people say it's easy for me to be flexible because I can do the splits. What they don't know is that it took me 2+ years with flexibility training for 30 mins every single day (bar a few days when I was sick etc)... people have no idea how much consistency and time it takes..
As a dancer and acrobat/contortionist I totally agree with you! People always tell me how cool it is that I have this 'talent' for contortion... Yes, I've always been a little bit(!) more flexible than the average person, BUT I still had to work really hard to be able to do those things! I stretch every day and yes, it DOES hurt! I'm not a kid or teen anymore, so I have to push myself to the limits every day, otherwise I'll loose my flexibility (especially my back flexibility). A lot of people still think there's some sort of 'secret' to become flexible... There isn't. It's just hard work... stretching every day, for years. Either you're willing to put in that work or you're not. If you're not, that's fine, but please stop complaining about your lack of flexibility then...😝 -----> Btw, you can find me on Instagram @violetheroine29 - if someone is interested 😊
I can do all three splits😃 I just got my middle split around a week ago and now i want to improve my back flexibility 🙌🏽😊 My only problem is that i‘m not that dedicated anymore comparing to the past years but i try to work on that➡️ put away the phone || lose less time || spend that time to stretch || reach my goal ❗️🙌🏽❤️🤸🏼♀️
True but really everyday every area of the body? The tissue needs time to recover too :) I would say every second day is enough :D works for me. And not too much sitting :)
Lara Joh Yeah, I usually don’t “stretch” every day, but I’m a gymnast so at home I usually do a workout one day and stretch the other, and go back and forth with that, but I always do gymnastics and contortion around the house but I only truly stretch every other day.
Spot-on! Great vid thank you for posting! As a retired martial artist / dancer, you are exactly right = it takes time and patience to listen to one's body when one is stretching.
I agree with the intro, but, sorry, stretching consistently won't do anything much without stretching correctly. What I mean by this is that you must be warm or even, preferably, sweating, before you stretch. Streching cold can cause injuies.
So true! Once I started practicing daily, I saw results a lot quicker than just stretching at class. I know it seems obvious, but a lot of people don’t realize its importance.
Before ever seeing this video, I started stretching every day (like she says). I was very tight and kind of old (57) Now after about 2 months, I feel WONDERFUL & FREE movement is joyful again. I love to stretch now, where as when I started it hurt and was wooden like. Stick to it, as she is right!
i think at least 70% of people on this earth can’t do split only because they don’t get the secret. these are the people who dislike this video, complain or point to the punch line time. the 30 percentile, can really appreciate what she did because we know that is really the secret. as a sign of appreciation for her contribution, let me rephrase the secret. if you truly believe you can be flexible you will be flexible. because you don’t believe in this, you are in 70 percentile, the people who don’t stretch, those who don’t get what they want. let me do more contribution. i began working on my flexibility after i reached my 30’s as a desperate attempt to control my back pain. after i reached my satisfactory result i realized i wasn’t complete until i got to that point. because the difference was night and day. i realized i became neutral. reached a place where it should be. a normal state without pain or discomfort for the first time in my life. once you get there, you know how wonderful it is to be normal. so what she said is really deep. if you wanted, you can get there. the only thing preventing you from getting there is not wanting it. oh, shoot i gave the life secret away in here.
Actually, if you feel pain, you're doing it wrong. I overstretched myself yesterday and feeling pain and like shit now - the opposite of flexible, and it's going to take a couple days to recover. So this is definitely something you should not do. The actual secret to flexibility is not "hard work" and "pain". It's incorporating various light stretches into your everyday life and doing them whenever you move, and not avoiding poses that involve stretches (e.g. sit on the floor cross-legged instead of sitting on a chair).
The secret to incredible flexibility is, knowledge of stretching like buying books and buying videos and some informative UA-cam videos with lengthy time videos and videos spending time on each body part stretch and the last two things is patients and dedication and putting in the work and pushing yourself to limits but being very careful, but extending the stretch every time you stretch a certain body part.
Chloe Ortiz Therebis SOME PEOPLE who are hust born that way. They have EDS but often if they do contortion they suffer from dislocating and many many painful symptoms aside feom flexibility that comes with this form of hypermobility. My fiance is one HUGE EXCEPTION who is born with EDS but does not have any pain at all and never has to practice he is literally a talent by nature. But I am convinced this is like 1 person in thousands that just are lucky. Sonif someone is that flexible, the odds are that person has practiced for many many years
Please tell me. I am a male,62 years,in India. I am seriously involved in strengthening n range of motion exercises. But I have a lot of issues:tight hamstrings, tight thoracolumbar fascia etc. In order to get good flexibility, should I stop my strengthening (body weight n resistance training)?because our energy gets divided in two types of exercises.
not to mention some people have skeletal issues. A great number of people will never ever be able to do the side splits cause by the formation of the hip joint.
I really want to become super flexible, but not to the point where I’m going to dislocate my joints easily cuz I heard that really painful. I know already that I’m at higher risk of that because I have hyper mobility syndrome. But I want to know if I’ll be safe stretching everyday and pushing myself?
Emily Hayden yes it IS safe however everyone has a different body so the stretches you do if it’s rlly painful then u may injure urself but that is quite unlikely unless u know ur body. I know that my body is very much the kind that may survive quite a lot of pain with temporary injury that may recover overnight. So tell you wat...a week..for one week stretch urself out ( me? As my New Years resolution I’m gonna stretch 1 hour a day for a year, that way it is certain that I will be quite bendy) then see how ur body has reacted..in pain?? ~hope this helped🦋🌈
Not sure if this is the same thing but I’m hyper flexible in my hips, I find that if I stretch them too far one one day the next day they’ll pop and grind against each other while I walk the next day which is not ideal so then I make a mental note that however far I stretched yesterday is too far and that I won’t go down that far for at least a week or two and depending on how bad the popping is I won’t stretch my hips for the next day or two just so they relax a bit. Hope this helps
If you are hypermobile the MOST IMPORTANT is to work on active flexibility! Work on your strenght more than you work on your flexibility. As long as your joints are strong and there is no big difference in your range of motion between active stretches and passive you should be on the safe side. The dangerous thing is really that your body lacks that „safety reaction“ where the muscles usually tense up for you to not be able to injure yourself (which is what makes most people naturally more stiff) Check out glute medius excercices for example to be safe in the sidesplit. Do leg holds to be safe in frontsplit, from standing into bridge and getting back up for steong backbends etc
@Emily Hayden, Have you been to a physical therapist? I encourage you to talk to your doctor, get a referral to a sports medicine specialist if necessary, or ask your family doctor for a prescription for physical therapy (or whatever is required where you live). A physical therapist, especially one who is also a certified athletic trainer (something that in my state is licensed and requiring a master's degree to practice), is going to be able to help you manage your hyper mobility while reaching your goals for flexibility, IF those goals are not going to be harmful. I speak from the experience of having to deal with hyper mobility of the hips and shoulders while healing from a major car accident: muscle tone to control the extreme range your body is capable of is more important than you could guess, and it becomes an increasingly vital component as you age. It was fun as a child to show off my splits and contortionist tricks. But now as an adult who has medical issues and survived injuries that have left permanent changes to my body, I value strength to control what I have over any former concept of perfect flexibility. Please be careful. Most countries won't do hip replacement until age 60 or older unless you have the joint completely destroyed in an accident or rare infection, so any damage you do now will be with you for the next couple of decades.
Yeah... this is exactly what I thought and realized on my own. Its like the same as trying to gain a crap ton of muscle. You need that much dedication and to work towards it every day. It isn't something that you can just train once in a while, its a full-time job.
Is it possible that I will never be able to be completely flat in my middle split? I have been dancing competitively for 9 years and I have been stretching everyday but I feel like my hips won’t go down...even if I was down, there will still be a little bit of space
Not even its impossible to stretch hard everyday because by the 3rd or 2nd day your soar I do martial arts and I’m trying to get flexible so I try to stretch as much as I can but I get soar like in 3 days of stretching and have to rest for like 3 days so I highly disagree with this because if you stretch to much you’ll hurt yourself and pull limbs and hamstrings then you’ll be injured for like 2 weeks and lose flexibility in that time. So my advice to anyone that has got this far in my message is to stretch hard until your soar then take a break until they’ve recovered
Itachi Uchiha but how are you stretching, passive, PNF, balistic...? Are you warming up before the stretching? Just to know, because depending on the type maybe just stop for few days when it's soar doesn't worth it
I do martial arts too, and I am trying to get flexible. Yes, you do get sore but instead of taking a break until you recover, just do different, easier stretches until you recover so you don’t lose your flexibility
Warm up beforehand. Take breaks in between for a couple of minutes. Drink water. Take nice warm showers and baths. Bend your limits but don't go as far to the point where you think you're gonna harm yourself.
But that's just what it is. People start at different levels and some people will never get to orabove acertain point. I find it arrogant, selfish and downright cruel to suggest these people should just try harder. There *are* genteticdifferences involved. There *are* hard limits (in the literal sense) imposed by bone and joint structure. When bone hits bone, you can't go any further. That is precisely the reason, why the best world-renowned ballet schools do admission tests where they analyze the bone structure. For example in turn-out of the legs and feet, there *is* bone structure that just limits how far a person can go. It's how the hip bones are formed. That is exactly the reason why hopeful young aspirants get painful surgery on their bones. And yes. I *am* saying that you don't have to work as hard as I would have to to get to a point off flexibility where you are. Where is the cut-off? How much time and energy can one afford to spend on a single trait, like flexibility? There are other things in life that demand time energy and attention. Some people are just luckier in some areas than others. And that's OK. I from a toddler age on new how to sing in key. It just came natural. And it does for many. But for many it doesn't. Not for one second would I imply that everybody could learn it. I do believe for many people practise can make them better, losing inhibitions can make them better. But I also know people that with no justifiable (or even possible) amount of work and effort could learn that. I've seen people try. So don't suggest anybody can learn anything just to gain a following and clients. It's just not true. And it's cruel to have people try and fail over and over again. Let them find what they are good in and succeed in that.
I do yoga for 1hour 3-4 times a week I also do martial art with alot of low stances etc. With that said, dont expect it to happen within a year. Getting flexy is as building muscles, it does not come within a few months. Everyone wants the Quick fix, there is no Quick fix. And what many forget sometimes is that you need to stretch the entire body, back, front, sides of the body, legs, and just like with working out you need to try different positions when you stretch.
it doesn't have to be "painful/uncomfortable", or even "hard work"... Every day now (great advice) I leaned down along my straigtened leg, sitting in a computer chair, and 1) it feels good 2) i'm getting more flexible
thanks! i was stretching 2 days once...but looks like i gotta take it to next level.. but back of my leg is so sore now.. am i pushing myself too hard or is it just normal to feel the soreness? i am new to stretching please tell me if you know?
DO NOT Keep stretching if you are still sore. Especially any deep stretching. You have to heal first or you’ll just injure yourself. Deep stretching shouldn’t be done everyday contrary to this video post. It all depends on your current flexibility.
I say if you are sore stretch a little but not too much, you body is sore because its not used to it and if u dont stretch at all it will never get used to it
Woah! I didn’t know stretching makes you flexible! *ThE mORe yoU KnOW!* I wanted a real tip, I’m already training contortion, and I’ve kinda reached my limit, that I can’t stretch more.
Because when you sleep you don't move much and your muscles get tight and you are not warmed up in the morning. In the evening you already moved around a lot, so you are warmed up and your muscles are looser from moving. If you run and jump around a bit before stretching in the morning than it will be easier.
The secret is....... There is no secret....... There are no short cuts in life..... Determine your goal and go after it...... Oh ya! Also, stop being lazy and get moving... Take the easy road now and life will seem difficult over time but Take the hard road now and life will be much easier with time.
Oh pleasr...Iv'e seen 300 lb women who never work out who are more flexible than I was in early childhood.. I've worked at it many in things like yoga and Pilates with no resultd and only hundreds of dollars in physio bills to show for it (as it causes injuries) I will keep trying, but I don't hold out any hope...even therapists have told me I'm naturally inflexible
Prisca Blinkz same,u aren’t alone. Just remember to push past ur limits and stretch everyday. I’m gonna try stretch for an hr everyday for the next yr and wanna see how I turn out🙏🏼 and dw my body could take the stretches I perform ~Good luck and always keep believing in urself 🦋🌈
The secret is consistency, that's it folks. Go to 3:30 and save yourself precious time!
Leone Ranger lol thanks😂😂

Pretty much yeah, the huge secret is just stretching everyday consistently.
She's a natural beauty~

Thanks, sincerely.
Loved all 3 points! So true and good job! 💖
Got it, but... would you mind pointing me the most complete yet not too long routine to practice every day on tight schedules 🙏🏼😋 thanks
OMG I love your wavy short hair
Me too
Carly Garro my hair is exactly like hers
i swear this really helped me alot i thought my friends were born flexible but it not true !!!!but guess what they admitited it thank u very much
Zamzam Ali no fixed mindsets!!! All about growth min set. Nobody is born a “certain way” they practiced probably a bunch and got it

For how long daily would you recommend to do it?
Should stretching be painful?
Thank you, that’s what I thought, need to do flexible stretches everyday, to reach my goals.
I have become very flexible on side splits and other areas but I struggle getting all the way on the middle splits. Any thoughts 💭?
It’s really hard for me to stay dedicated to stretching every day, Any tips to stay dedicated?
I would suggest is focus and be passionate and be responsible
Dont force yourself😁
Please tell me. I am a male,62 years,in India. I am seriously involved in strengthening n range of motion exercises. But I have a lot of issues:tight hamstrings, tight thoracolumbar fascia etc.
In order to get good flexibility, should I stop my strengthening (body weight n resistance training)?because our energy gets divided in two types of exercises.

You need Bob Cooley's teachings on the fascia. Strething without it is a pain and limited in effect.
I love you’re motivation
This vid was very touching....thank you. New sub!
Sounds reasonable to me. Thank you
Well said i agree
Can you tell how long does stretches need to be hold?

Hi dear but what about recovery time if everyday !?
thank you

Itachi Uchiha but how are you stretching, passive, PNF, balistic...? Are you warming up before the stretching? Just to know, because depending on the type maybe just stop for few days when it's soar doesn't worth it
Cristian Rocco I do pnf and I’ve been gaining flexibility lately but it’s been pretty painful
I agree with this. I pushed myself to a point where I pulled my hamstring and wasn't able to stretch for about 4 months.

Johannes Halberstadt So what's your answer?? Just don't bother trying!! smh.
I stretch EVERY SINGLE DAY but every time i do my splits i loose it quick
True and great video
How long do you think a split will take?
Ondrea Torrence it took me half a year but I was only 6 (younger people are more flexible)
Isabella24 yeah I'm 23 and I'm not sure if I'll ever be flexible again .
I use 5o do gymnastics but I stopped for years and lost all my flexabilty
Ondrea Torrence it would take more then a month it took me over 4 years
I know how to do a split takes almost 10 weeeks
2 Years or so
I do yoga for 1hour 3-4 times a week
I also do martial art with alot of low stances etc.
With that said, dont expect it to happen within a year.
Getting flexy is as building muscles, it does not come within a few months.
Everyone wants the Quick fix, there is no Quick fix.
And what many forget sometimes is that you need to stretch the entire body, back, front, sides of the body, legs, and just like with working out you need to try different positions when you stretch.
wow. you are nice. thanks!
Good advice, there is no need for the negative comments. If you don't like it just move on, you don't have to make anyone feel bad. Practice ahimsa.
I do exactly what you say, I have benn stretching every day fon a few weeks now and i can laready see the improfment
it doesn't have to be "painful/uncomfortable", or even "hard work"... Every day now (great advice) I leaned down along my straigtened leg, sitting in a computer chair, and 1) it feels good 2) i'm getting more flexible
What do I have to do BEFORE stretching? for better results
Warming up. But I guess you know it already 😁
Some comments already mentioned but yeah: at 3:30, "stretch", "do it consistently"... skip this woman's filler.
That’s exactly what I tell everyone in my class
I’m an inflexible figure skater. That needs to change quick.
I follow Erica Lin and she said to do I everyday in the morning evening and at night
CarlyTGC i follow her too. becuse if her i got my splits
Carly Garro your so pretty
Carly Garro me too
Carly Garro you should check out Alivia D’Andrea she is AMAZING!
Carly Garro me too I literally wrote like the same comment and then saw this one hers is much more better right?
Great video. How are you?
What a beautiful day!
thanks! i was stretching 2 days once...but looks like i gotta take it to next level.. but back of my leg is so sore now.. am i pushing myself too hard or is it just normal to feel the soreness? i am new to stretching please tell me if you know?
B Oyunsanaa its normal
thanks
DO NOT Keep stretching if you are still sore. Especially any deep stretching. You have to heal first or you’ll just injure yourself. Deep stretching shouldn’t be done everyday contrary to this video post. It all depends on your current flexibility.
thank you!
I say if you are sore stretch a little but not too much, you body is sore because its not used to it and if u dont stretch at all it will never get used to it
That is true im decently flexible and everyone says oh you dont know the pain but i worked everyday to get were i am
Woah! I didn’t know stretching makes you flexible!
*ThE mORe yoU KnOW!*
I wanted a real tip, I’m already training contortion, and I’ve kinda reached my limit, that I can’t stretch more.
I hav a question... why is it that in morning i feel that im not flexiable or cnt stretch easily and at night i feel its so much easier to do stretchs
Because when you sleep you don't move much and your muscles get tight and you are not warmed up in the morning. In the evening you already moved around a lot, so you are warmed up and your muscles are looser from moving. If you run and jump around a bit before stretching in the morning than it will be easier.
no way
oh thats why....that makes sense...thanks i forgt when did i post this question😂
I got my splits in 8 weeks (1day in a week stretch)🤷♀️😱😍😍🙂🙂😇😇😛
Everyone complaining about clickbait. I mean i guessed it and it was obvious but it’s still true. And to some people it may have been a revelation
I could always touch my toes but not just touch my toes, i can but the palm of my hands can touch the floor flat with my knees straight.
THANKS I WILL PUT THAT ON MY TIME SHEDRULE
The secret is....... There is no secret....... There are no short cuts in life..... Determine your goal and go after it...... Oh ya! Also, stop being lazy and get moving... Take the easy road now and life will seem difficult over time but Take the hard road now and life will be much easier with time.
#Goals
Jeez...is this a joke. Secret lol😂😂

Yea but many people don't get that it's just dedicated work and believe those who are flexible are born that way or just 'are'
I like your haircut.
Never heard of a flexibility class. Would that be in a yoga studio?
Some dance studios offer stretching/flexibility or even contortion classes.
聽君一席話,如聽一席話🤣🤣🤣
Never stretch into PAIN... only relax and exhale and allow yourself to just feel the stretch in the center of the muscle you are stretching.
cool
Oh pleasr...Iv'e seen 300 lb women who never work out who are more flexible than I was in early childhood.. I've worked at it many in things like yoga and Pilates with no resultd and only hundreds of dollars in physio bills to show for it (as it causes injuries) I will keep trying, but I don't hold out any hope...even therapists have told me I'm naturally inflexible
People always say the first thing to me and it’s annoying😭😂
You r so cute with this makeup 😊😅😉😘
Okay. Every single day. Got it. But what? When? When I get up do the full stretch routine then? Which is??
Oh my marshmallows
*PUSH PAS YOUR LIMITS*
The only person people can say that it's not painful for because shedoesnt have a spine
Logangster 101 Sofie Dossi does have a spin it just doesnt her for her!
It's not painful because she stretched her back often. If she did not have a spine, she would be dead.
Ya that's what people say
They call me mini Sofie Dossi and say it doesn't hurt
It doesn't cause I practice
she has to have a spine to be alivi
I love to stretch.💕
