      Rasta BoomBoom well you see you can be in the wrong depending on the style of Kung Fu were speaking of. If you’re talking about Shaolin Kung Fu, the art was strictly made for protecting against invaders. However, if we’re talking about Wushu, or in other words competitive Kung Fu, then yes the art was made for striking.

    • @BluntInnit
      @BluntInnit 6 років тому +31

      What would be the point in that?
      A fight proves who can win on that day nothing else, nothing would be learned from it as that comes from discussion and debate without ego.
      This is why after a fight there is often a rematch as a fight proves nothing.
      However after a real fight is usually bad blood so any discussion and sharing of knowledge and ideas would end.
      If you think these videos are about which style is better than the other then you don't understand the point of martial arts.
      There is often more than 1 correct solution to the same problem, blinding yourself to any other ideas and proving you are better than anyone else is a game for ego idiots.
      If you do martial arts for self defense then the idea is to gain the experience to not get hurt, so if you have a fight with something then you will get hurt so that is not good self defense if you have to prove yourself through fighting.
      I know you are joking and having fun but watch this clip and you will understand the point of what these 2 channels are doing and why there should be more friendly discussion of martial arts and sharing knowledge to improve martial arts over all instead of ego in fighting: ua-cam.com/video/ZVkI0vbHcz4/v-deo.html

      Jason Shibley Ando is right about the teacher. also, it depends on what specific things you're looking for to add to your arsenal or skills and how realistic it should be or not.

    • @HardHardMaster
      @HardHardMaster 7 років тому +1

      Jason Shibley practically anything practiced full contact will automatically force you to learn some (more) realistic skills. muay thai has a lot to offer, but I'm not crazy about too much focus on the round low kicks. they are mostly good for drawn out matches, but can easily expose you in selfdefense situations. it has great clinch techniques and straight kicks though. but usually not great boxing.
      actual boxing, especially dirty boxing as in Filipino martial arts Panantukan, is extremely useful and realistic and weirdly enough very underestimated these days. most martial artists won't stand a chance against a decent boxer on the street.
      judo is never to be underestimated, also mainly because of the 'full contact' or rather 'alive' practice of realistic throws.
      karate styles like kyokushin, ashihara, and enshin have a broad range of realistic techniques and are developed for selfdefense and practiced full contact. (edge)
      weapons familiarity and disarming would be a very useful part of training, the only widely spread system I'm aware of being somewhat practical in a last resort situation regarding edge weapons would be escrima. forget about bullshido like krav maga, Russian systema or aikido which make unrealistic claims about weapons selfdefense (and basically everything else).
      catch wrestling is a great system for the ground and takedowns, up to par with and possible surpassing BJJ. don't know where you are located but check out the guys at Snake Pit USA.
      Russian sambo is also a realistic ground system.
      hope this helps.

      @@Southeast_Asian_Devil The concept of your analogy is indeed clever, but does not directly apply, as an analogy should, because that is not what he is saying.
      If 10 boxers went up against 10 wrestlers, for example, how does one determine which style is better? The obvious and immediate answer is, whichever style has more victories. Ok, here's the problem with that:
      Boxers win 6 out of 10. Now, everyone fights again but this time boxers win 4 out of 10. Or what if it's tied? Now bring in a fresh set of 20 fighters and this time boxing wins 3...And after changing opponents boxing wins 7...and so on. There is no way to tell which style is better because it always depends on the fighter. So it's easier to determine which fighter is better than which style, and even then you have the same problem. A champion today could be a loser tomorrow and vice versa. Ever see a rematch fight? Is the previous victor always the reigning victor? ✌🙏

    I have only seen 4 minutes of Jesse explanation and I can't beleive what I am seeing. The technique he applied with shuto is exactly the same we have in Choy Lee Fut Kungfu. We use the palm "to divert" part of momentum of the incoming punch (we call it "tap" or whatever its phoneme is written) and then we grab exacty as he did with a "chuin lao" and strike the neck at the same time with a "jet kiu", witch we do with the forearm instead of the hand (the best concept translation would be "to cut with the forearm"). Depending on the strikes you feel more comfortable, you can substitute the "jet kiu" with other type of strike.
    I find the similarities between martial arts marvelous, and I admire the humility and eagerness to learn and adapt things from other martial arts to our own martial art.

    There's a reason boxers keep their hands near their face and use minimal effort/motion to block. Jabs aren't easy to block and are near impossible to grab. I don't care if this guy had 20 tries to try and catch a jab. The chance of him grabbing even one jab would be very low.
    Also, wouldn't sidestepping into that chop and trying to dodge with movement be more effective?

    • @AndoMierzwa
      @AndoMierzwa  7 років тому +5

      Good point! There are many ways to use the hands and feet. This is just one or two. I'm a big fan of dodging when I can, too!

    • @thedarkmaster4747
      @thedarkmaster4747 7 років тому +2

      in karate you create openings in your opponent, this move is very efficient, think speed - deballance - power, moving from one motion to the other. the block is excadurated to create the oppening to both grab the wrist and travel up the arm ⚡ speed, simple, effective and powerfull with the full arm land against a falling opponent. all he needs to do its block it once and he's IN. in TMA blocking jabs is possible, we creat distance and don't turtle 🐢🥊 up untill things get close... or at all in some cases. very differen't fighting principles. your not going to have time to side step🥋💨 you're bearly gonna have time to throw that "two". i would recommend commiting to the flow of the move aswell. in the battle of 🐅 vs 🥋he who underestimates the others ability is sure to lose. infact i'd say go fore arm to block rather than open hand to stop the sword hand chop/shunt. then something like 🐅 leaping tiger in long grass(crossed/oppossed arms), steals man from atop 🐘 wailing elephant bach. (yes this happens in some parts of india.) anyways a 🐯 can go right up you... as a boxer🤔 i'd say same thing, 🥊but lean into the raised forarm then shunt/push the karate 🥋 guy off you by putting your head up against the inside of your forearm so its your hole body against theirs. then one you get the caught arm back, haymaker with it as the karate guy will be i'll advised to stop it off ballance. not as fancy as the tiger body climbing head grab, but just as effective.

    • @realjutsu5648
      @realjutsu5648 7 років тому +1

      Vesuvius ... Last part first. Yes the dodging with movement is more efficient - in some circumstances. However,that blocking section if done hard and fast can momentarily stun the push arm. This is an advantage.
      Jabs? I agree to a point. Hard to deal with boxing vs boxing. However, train to slip the jab. Rather than grab it, track it back to the puncher and press it against his chest/shoulder - wherever it returned to. Follow up in an appropriate manner.

    Karate is LITERALLY the evolution of Kung Fu. Whilst I agree that Kung Fu is WAY richer in culture and mysticism. When it comes to self defense and just flat out beating some one up, Karate (most styles of Karate) is far superior. Its less show.

      EvilSwordman yeah, no. Okinawa. and before u start off on how there was influence from Chinese on the development of Okinawa Te, there was influence all over the world's many directions from everywhere. it doesn't make it the same, and it certainly doesn't make some random Chinese martial art better.
      karate evolved in its own way and is fundamentally different from kung fu. especially notably in the way that it's much more realistic.
      I'm getting pretty sick and tired of this constant frustrated Chinese propaganda crap about who invented martial arts.
      bottom line: China/Chinese didn't. and certainly not karate.

Don’t just assume one thing will work and another thing won’t, think 5 steps ahead and consider every possibility to be an eventuality. Not only will this way of thinking improve your martial arts skills but it will also improve your basic learning skills which will help you in your everyday life.

    I have to admit, as a karateka, that he got it wrong. In order for the shuto to of worked, he should of gone on the outside of his opponent. The objective goal of the shuto is to strike the nerve system, not just the neck. Personally, it was me, I would of gone for the outside range of the opponent and gone for the elbow joint to apply pressure, in order to immobilise the opponent and used my foot on the rear of the knee joint to of brought them down at the same time. This way is more safer than full out injuring someone for life, which I don't think is necessary for a moment of madness. We are all human beings and we all get upset and we all make mistakes. Someone doesn't need to be injured for life because of it.

  • @tiltedwriter6469

    Shuto can also be used on the shoulder to stop a strike! That way it's a defensive attack. It hurts your shoulder and distracts you and gives you enough time for a kick or something else! This video is amazing though, both practitioners are amazing and their explanations are believable and fair. Well done!

    A lot of people here wanted to see an actual fight to see how they would do, but especially when I saw the end of the video, felt that it wasn't about that. I think they are both trying to encourage people to keep an open mind, and to really think about their technique, to always be refining and such. It's always good to see techniques tried out in the real world to see what works, but I think fighting it out, they felt, may have overshadowed that message. At any rate, it's a very informative video, and I love the sense of humor of both these guys.

    the idea behind the intro of the sword hand strike is to show its flex.. 1 you can block with the reverse hand or the crossing hand 2 you can grab with the hand that strikes/blocks 3 you dont need to grab but strike instead 4 in feeling your opponent during any exchange ,, his tempo and ability can determine your response..you can change it into a series of chops and stabs to the upper region..or you can decide to stop the fight with a single jab to the throat / eye / nose.. you need to be flexible with your crossing hands techniques.. there is always an answer to any question in combat.

    7:35 This is so fun. In my VIPER JKD we would skip the third beat on the shooto meaning. We would deflect (back hand) same time front hand goes al the way in with a big strike. Instead of grabbing. That’s the only part we’d skip.

    Look at 3:14 min to see what the movement look like, in a more realistic way, and understand it let no place to opponent reaction, moreover if he's not an experimented martial art practicing.
    Then understand that the grabbing of the opponent arm after the blocking is not essential.
    Then understand that even the blocking of the opponent attack is not essential.
    Then you have a preview of what "Go no Sen" mean and why it is essential in Karate.
    Btw, personnaly, I prefer use the "Shuto Uchi" technique to target the Temple of the opponent rather than his neck, more efficient and harder to protect.

    Love Ando sensei's spirit and humor.
    Everyone that takes the time to better themselves each day is a martial arts/kung Fu practioner.
    Everyone that respects the other arts are martial artists.
    Everyone of the above that is willing to keep an open mind and learn from each other.

    Kung fu guy has a valid point. Nobody punches and leaves their arm out. One step and two step sparring is not actual sparring/fighting. It’s just practice. Blocking really becomes dodge and cover in a real fight/sparring match.

    Very Good Video, and I love what you said the last half minute. And for the other comentators on this video who would like to see you fight: The one who searches for a fight is not an martial artist. The one who could avoid fighting is an martial artist.

    Sir, I've always wanted to ask a question. Recently, Chinese Kung Fu has been questioned by the public at the real combat level. What do you think of this

    • @AndoMierzwa

      I think you should compare fighters, not styles.

      Ando Mierzwa Thank you very much for your reply. In fact, there is no malice in my remarks. I am also a Wing Chun lover. This is why I hope to find out why Chinese traditional martial arts always fail in modern fighting. I am glad to see that there are still many people who love Chinese martial arts to pay tribute to you.

    Great stuff! As a Kung Fu guy I particularly liked this one! ;) Seriously though, there are NO "best styles"! All approaches to the martial arts have something to offer and it's up to the individual to find a path that fits. Even then... it's a good idea to look at the other paths too ;) Cheers, Sifu Ruiseart.

    Jesse didn't use the inside palm parry and outside elbow wrench-shuto, which might be faster and rather nasty, or a right hand strike to the punching arm-shuto. The right arm isn't meant only to be moved inside for a shuto. That's a parry and punch at the same time, or a parry and rising back knuckle strike to the arm.

    That was fantastic. I learned a lot of martial arts in the Air Force and Federal Police Academy. I am very petite so I always take advantage of "going with flow," using the force and momentum of the other person, quick punches and chops, surprise shin and body kicks, and of course arm bars. I like ground fighting too...I have some certs lol. Now that I am 38, I would love to get back into martial arts, and study a style exclusively. I have to figure out what style is best for me. I love speed, blocking, and punching and kicking the most. Suggestions welcome:) I am also interested in the meditation aspect of martial arts. I don't think people know how peaceful true warriors are. lol

    • @AndoMierzwa
      @AndoMierzwa  5 років тому

      Yes, absolutely get back on the mats! 👍🏼 I recommend finding a teacher that impresses you more than a particular style. Especially if you’re interested in the bigger life lessons training can provide. But don’t overthink it- just sign up someplace and have a new experience! :)

    You completely missed the fact that by striking across his own body with his arm it leaves that entirely side of his body open, more notably the ribs. Any style of point contact (Praying Mantis, Dove, Crane, randomly jamming your thumb into his armpit) is going to shock his body and make him force that arm back down effectively abandoning his entire attack and opening up his center.
